Brickhouse gym has members that act like they own the gym. I personally was confronted by an individual over a fan being on and was ready to fight me over it. I am 60, this guy upper 30's maybe 40's and juiced up on roids with a bad attitude and he was ready to fight. The gym is hot, the equipment is old and the staff is nonexistent. I did cancel my membership and searching for another gym. Not sure if owners are aware of the issues, but maybe if they read this, they will make improvements. I join gyms to work out not to have a fist fight over whether a fan is on or off because of the heat. read more

I came to visit my daughter for the week and searched for a gym. Brickhouse was exactly what I was looking for. The equipment is older but that didn't matter at all. It does exactly the same thing for your muscles. The staff was extremely nice and very accommodating. I paid $20 for the week and it was totally worth it. read more

Honestly, when I first moved to Texas, this was the closest gym to me but I knew I would need to find another gym because the equipment is outdated and also I was limited in what workouts I could do. However, the staff were nice and I was able to improvise until I found a new gym. Fast forward, I found a new gym and requested to cancel my membership. This is where all the issues began. I initially called in to speak with someone about canceling. I was told I would need to come in to cancel but in the meantime they would offer me a temporary freeze of payment in case I decided to come back. This sounded like a good option as I wasn't quite settled in my new gym, and it would allow me to get a quick workout at a closer location, should there be a rainy day or something. However, a few weeks later I decided to cancel my membership as I really fell in love with my new gym and didn't want to forget to cancel my old gym membership and get charged. I came in, filled out a form and was told that was it. Fast forward a year later, my account is being charged and all of a sudden they can't find my completed cancellation form. First, it is 2025, why are we doing this in paper format? A customer should be able to cancel a membership, receive confirmation of this and go on their merry way. One of the employees even told me the form probably got misplaced. UNPROFESSIONAL! This could've easily been fixed. I definitely do not recommend this gym to anyone. It's a solid gym until you have to move out of state, then they make it as inconvenient as humanly possible to cancel. Apparently they're hurting bad enough that they have to needlessly fleece their once loyal members for more $ after you move away "oh it's written into the contract that you have to give us exactly 30 days notice in writing or in person" - you mean the terms you flippantly gloss over during signup? I was a member at 3 other gyms - none of them made it THIS hard to cancel. I'm happy to update my review once your incompetent management team steps into the 21st century and realizes that these types of things can be handled just as easily with a phone call or an email. read more

My husband, toddler and I waited for several minutes and no one came to the desk to help us. Only after my husband called while we were standing there did a young college kid come out and not even say excuse me to reach his arm past us to pick the phone before my husband tried explaining it was him calling and now that someone was at the front he wanted to sign up for a membership and the kid immediately goes "umm is there any time you can come back later to do this?" (Hardly anyone was in the gym it seemed dead) and then my husband mentioned he called this morning and was told that it was the last day for a 6 month special and he wanted to take advantage of it. Without a beat, the kid goes "yeah that ended yesterday.." (checks his phone to confirm) and then double down "yeah it ended yesterday". He had no customer service, no smile, no kindness and was extremely abrasive and was more willing to throw away a gym customer than try to find a work around. This is my husband's 3rd visit here and it's been nothing but extremely disappointing and never a nice experience. Sad.. read more

They've updated some of their cardio equipment, ya'll! 4 new ellipticals, 2 real stair climbers and 2 rowing machines! They're open early on weekdays and overlook a great jogging/walking path that circles around Unicorn "Lake." They have a great staff and are a solid gym with lots of weights to use. On Sunday, they open at 10am, which is late but I can find other options. I work in downtown Dallas so I miss their cycle and pilates or zumba classes and they're starting a run club. As a female, I felt very uncomfortable at this gym. My husband went with me and I would never go alone. However, for what you pay there is quite a lot to offer- a lot of free weights, equipment, machines, classes, child care, studio room, treadmills, etc. you never have to wait for a machine because it's not over crowded. Equipment is outdated but works great and it didn't bother me. I wish the atmosphere was different but I can't go to a gym that I don't feel comfortable in. read more

I really like this gym for it's trainers, equipment variety, cleanness, and so much more. I'm a college student so when I'm home for a short while, I sign up for a couple months at a time. In my experience, they are different from other gyms that try to get you to sign up for more than what you want. I never felt pressured to buy things I didn't want like I have felt at other gyms. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Trainers are very educated and helpful. Very good gym for beginners who don't want a crowded gym. Highly recommend! read more

This gym offers weekly passes. I was visiting from out of town, so that was perfect. The cost was reasonable. Although the equipment is mismatched and worn, it was all in working order. The gym was clean and patrons routinely wiped off the equipment after each use. The front desk was friendly and asked if I needed any guidance. I didn't go in the locker room. This is a good, simple weights gym with some cardio equipment and even a few classes. All the cardio equipment looks out to Unicorn Lake and the staff is friendly. I know I need to do this if I ever want to attempt to do roller derby. Yeah, I said roller derby. If you're in the Denton area, and serious about lifting or working hard, this is your gym. There's a reason for the "rusty" "outdated" equipment, it gives the gym an old school feel you just don't see anymore. Great atmosphere with lots of hard workers, and it's never too crowded. I've given two stars because the equipment is very very old and outdated and most of the plates are rusting so you get rust residue on your hands and clothes. It looks like they have not invested in much of any new plates or racks in decades. The locker rooms are filthy and the urinals were very gross. There is a lot of mildew growing on the concrete shower floors. There was gunk and they didnt flush properly. It looks like the owner has just abandoned this place and doesnt care about the sanitation and maintenance of this gym. Would not recommend. You've been warned. read more

Awful experience in their childcare. I understand sometimes things like this can happen, but how it got to this point, I have no idea. My daughter now has scars from her incident in their childcare. There were 2 adults and less than 10 children in 1 room. The fact that my daughter got so scratched up was clear negligence. To add insult to injury, the childcare employee was so nonchalant about what happened, and wouldn't give us any information. There was no incident report filed, and the owner seemed as if us following up about the issue was a burden to him. If you have children and are considering going here..... Don't! Comparing this to a gym closer to the university: less dudebros. However, that just means you have less motivation to get pumped up and wear a muscle shirt that opens up the possibilities of GTL and all night partying. The layout is one giant open lot that is filled with cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, and more. Many people complained about creepers staring at them and honestly, I can attest this is true. Every time I go, I find people drooling over my glorious calves and forearm definition. It's truly a sight, but I know how to cover up just enough to entice. Animals. The machines are ancient. Ancient enough that, like counting rings on a tree, one could count the nicks and dents on a dumbbell or a machine and the total would probably be the age of that equipment. Despite the wear and tear, these machines are adequate. I will come here whenever I make my trek to Denton and get my dose of swoliosis. Still, why is there ALWAYS an old dude naked in the locker room. read more

I was so happy to leave Diesel I thought we had found our new gym home....Um nope some of the same issues at Diesel were here, the equipment is old, many of the pads are worn, I can't worry about shoddy padding on an incline bench ripping into my thighs when I am lifting about as much as Ronnie Coleman, ok maybe not that much but it feels like it. Creepers but not nearly as many as the aforementioned, and kids, again not as many and not nearly with the horrible form as the tykes at Diesel. The best part is Brickhouse is so close to my house!! BUT the hours suck. Basically the hours and the stream of teens coming in without key cards (looked like they are all friends with staff not paying members), are the reasons we left. read more

Strongest gym in Denton! I love this place because every person there, is there to make themselves better. There is a culture here that makes you want to come back and be stronger. They have multiple different kinds of barbells for powerlifting, cables, dumbbells, 2 deadlift platforms, and plenty of squat racks. I wish I discovered them sooner! read more

This gym is super small and equipment is from the 1990s. No joke. Poor a/c and heat. The equipment is like ghetto apartment equipment.

Decent gym, I won't lie. Great selection of equipment and organized well to my liking. The upkeep is great, people always cleaning, most people friendly. The view is awesome with the lake and a nice little running path around it if you want some sun. The gym in itself is pretty darn good and you can get some serious work done there. Now the downside; not so much for me. I get in the zone when I lift so tend to focus on my workout and nothing much else. My girlfriend complained some guys were creeping on her. I figured whatever boys will be boys. Then I found out it was the staff. To entertain myself I began watching them when she'd be working out and yep, creepy... I mean biting your lip and staring at the butt creepy. I can understand, a girls hot, you can appreciate beauty, but when you're a 280 pound sweaty butterball or approaching your mid 60's, things get weird. Now I know what you're thinking, it's just guys being guys. No, this is different. This is like guys who've never socialized with a female their entire life awkward creepy. The type of guy who if a passing girl smiles at thinks they're getting married to. The 30 year old virgin guy but not the virgin that just gave up type, the virgin that is so insanely desperate he forgot that a vagina is just something attached to another human being and can't interact properly. In summary, great gym, it really is I'll hand that to them. But the staff can get weird on you fast. If you're a hot girl, workout with a tazer. We really liked the gym but she doesn't want to come back because of the staff. I still may use it because the equipment is great. read more

Staff is awesome here. Very inviting people and the few times i needed a spotter when i didn't have one they were more than willing to help out. The place is extra clean and you can always find someone making sure of that. The equipment is in excellent shape! Not a big deal, but it does somewhat overlook a nice pond for viewing pleasure. Love the people, trainers (yes, I've hired a few there and they are all great), staff and feel totally comfortable there. The Spin and Interval classes are top notch. I don't have little ones but I hear that their childcare is wonderful and very attentive. However, I'm bringing down my rating review a little bit just for the simple fact that the place is getting a little "dated". I've been going there since 2008 and with the exception of a few treadmills, I don't think any of the equipment has been replaced. They do a great job of fixing the ones when they break... Whether it is cardio or weight machines... however, many are very old and need to be replaced completely. They tend to take the band-aid approach to their equipment but the reality is that many of the machines are out dated. I mean I can go to holiday in express in there gym has a more current weight machine or cardio machine in some cases. Also, I can't speak for the men's locker area but in the women's locker area there has been a leaky faucet there for about a year now and a toilet that is about ready to tip over... Again, they always try to fix it but it just never seems to "stay fixed". It's time for a bit of a facelift Brickhouse. read more

This is a great Gym. The staff is friendly, and the members create an open and inviting experience. Every time you walk in expect to get a "Hello!" The equipment is great, enough weights for all members to use even when its packed. The best times to go are 6am-3pm and 7pm- close, the gym is nice and open at these times, and will maximize your work out. Also a membership includes free classes, and there is an abundance of friendly personal trainers. The locker rooms are nice and private, and the work space is nice and open. read more

Love this gym. The trainers and owner are awesome. The day care area is great with my kids--some of the workers in there are better than places I have paid extra for childcare. Beautiful pond near by is great for a warm up/cool down or makes the view on a treadmill run enjoyable. Maybe not the newest equipment, but they have everything you need and more. read more

Really happy with this gym. All the staff that I have met have been friendly, not pretentious and willing to help. Equipment is older but remarkably well maintained. Gym has thus far never been crowded and I've had no issues going through my sometimes-complex workouts. Lots of natural light comes in through the side of the gym that faves unicorn lake. Track around the lake is beautiful and motivates me to run more than a treadmill, though they have plenty of those as well. I do wish that the gym were open later on Saturdays due to my work schedule but other than that I have no complaints. Very happy with my move to Denton and very excited about my new gym read more

First off the common trend on these comments are people complaining about the equipment. Sure the equipment is a little dated, but it's good enough to do the exercise. If you want new fancy shit with a spa and pool and jacuzzi etc. then go to LA or 24hr. Most people who go to this gym is there to work out not to feel like they are in some luxury spa. And if you don't like the other people who work out there then take your sensitive ass to planet fitness where they care more about your feelings. Grow up people for real. Now I will agree that the staff are unprofessional with sitting in the tables and being on the phone, clearly no one with importance is looking at this because this would be something to to address ASAP. Great place, I enjoy the equipment and it doesn't tend to be too crowded at any given time. As a male I enjoyed the atmosphere. There's a sense of seriousness in the people who workout here, no messing around just straight to the workout, and I personally enjoy that in a gym. Although my fiancee found this gym extremely uncomfortable, and it wasn't the fellow gym goers that were bothering her. But rather a few of the people who work here. Now it isn't enough to turn me away from the gym, but this place is definitely not a female friendly gym and my fiancee will not be returning anytime soon read more
