We bought an older home and the chimney needed repaired before we moved in. They worked well with us and the job went quickly. Four years later, when we had our hot water heater replaced, we found out that the vent that was installed for the furnace and the hot water heater hadn't actually been venting. This was verified by the installer of the water heater. I tried calling to discuss and could only get voicemail. They called back the next day and could send someone out to look at it for over $300. read more

Not only did they admit to overcharging me almost triple, but the remote starter and manual knob started melting/charring and when I reached out they offered to replace the remote. I contacted 3 other companies who said that it's clearly the wrong set for my fireplace and could not be salvaged. I was told the only solution was an entirely new set for $1800.00. I had high hopes to get needed repairs completed on my chimneys after I purchased my home recently and their great reviews via Google. I have had nothing but trouble through the entire process. What was told to be completed in two or three days barring unforeseen circumstances has now turned into a three week+ ongoing repair. While I understand manufacturer issues can occur, I'm still waiting for a chase cover for my final chimney repair that came in fitting incorrectly twice. Yesterday, they came out to remeasure, and I was told they would be here Friday (today) between noon and 2 pm to finish the chimney. I have not heard an update nor a call noting any delay. They no-called, no-showed... again. Communication has been incredibly poor through the whole process, and I was apparently rescheduled to 2/9 without a call or heads up after I had to reach out to the company. Overall what was promised to be a two to three-day repair has turned into going on three weeks. I wish I could say I've had a stellar experience like others, but it has been a disaster this entire process and I hope that I can at least get the job finished and that the work holds up in the future as promised by the quoted scope of work. read more

Unfortunately, our experience mirrors the most recent one. We chose this group based upon reviews, but I guess that management or something has changed because our experience top to bottom has not matched what I have seen online. Let me be forward in saying this review is not regarding their work but rather their scheduling. We have scheduled and been rescheduled 3 times. I or my husband have missed appointments, work, and other things to accommodate them and their continual "unforeseen circumstances". I understand this may happen once, maybe even twice, but three is unacceptable and unreasonable. Next, after waiting at least 5 weeks, just before our rescheduled day we found out they ordered the wrong part, despite having taken the fireplace apart previously and assessed needs. Finally, when our day came to install the reordered piece, they called to cancel within 2 hours of when they were supposed to have started the job to let us know the secondary piece had not come in. Any other place would have called a day or two before let the customer know the piece still wasn't in and maybe would have suggested a bump-out date. Calling two hours prior to the visit is unacceptable when people work and work their day around the project. If you see my review history, you will see I rarely leave bad reviews (usually because they are offered enough) however, my experience here has been highly unfavorable. I assure you I will not suggest them, I will deter people who mention wanting to use them, and I will not use them again. read more

I bought a deal from CMO through Groupon for a chimney crown restoration. When their service technician came out and inspected my chimney, he informed me that crown needed more extensive work (which I suspected). He was able to immediately give me a quote using his tablet for a new stainless steel crown cap and gave me a good discount because I could not use my Groupon. He was honest and upfront of what work absolutely needed to be done and what could be considered optional. The job was scheduled and completed within a week and I didn't even need to be home at the time. I will definitely consider contacting CMO when I need my chimney swept. read more

Although I was assured that the chimney repair on my older home would not be obvious because the mortar would be tinted to blend in, it was not tinted, and it is very obvious and unsightly. Do not use this company. I had work done with them when they had an office in Nashville. They never completed the work and then closed their Nashville operation. They scheduled a crew to come and complete the work and we set a time and date, They then showed up a week early while I was out of town. They then indicated that they had contracted with a local company to finish their work. I have tried to contact the local company twice and no response. I have 5 conversations with their home office with promises that someone would get back to me. NOTHING. They don't seem to care and based on their lack of responses I would hate to ever have to rely on their warranty promises. read more

Chimney and Masonry Outfitters was a great company to deal with...initially. Good costumer service and friendly and clean technicians (while perhaps young and inexperienced). That being said, this company does not back up their work. If you are considering paying for Tuck Pointing from CMO, be prepared for $700-$900 every two years. I was just told that any failure past 6 months from service, they won't even consider repairing their shoddy work. I was told that anything "the fire touches" can't be held accountable...pretty nifty out for a company dealing in fireplaces. On top of that, the account rep let me know that it sounds like I likely was provided the wrong type of repair (and was charged fully for), so they couldn't be responsible for that. Is it just me or should the "professional" fireplace technician inspecting my fireplace be the one to advise and provide the correct repair? That makes too much sense. I live in a neighborhood in NE Indy where almost all of my neighbors burn wood fireplaces and wood stoves and I will certainly pass my warning on to them but wanted to hopefully save someone else $800/2yrs. Hopefully you have better luck because that is what CMO relies on to ensure good craftsmanship and longevity of their services. read more

These guys are definitely NOT scam artists. They ARE growing and are quite busy. I have had them do work on two BIG projects for my 127-year-old house and they are beautiful. They have restored (tuck pointing, waterproofing, sweeping, custom capping, flashing) two fireplaces, repaired gutter and fascia board, installed two fireglass vent-free fire systems, tiled a hearth, installed a mantel, cleaned tiling. I've probably paid $20K altogether over 2 years of work, but quality is expensive and they are worth it. Everyone is a professional. No one is perfect, and mistakes are a pain of growing. I love this company. My house is a showplace, and they have been a big part of that. read more

Had never had a chimney sweep done before (new house that needed it), so didn't know what to expect. CMO was very prompt, professional and courteous. Did a THOROUGH cleaning of the chimney itself and the fireplace. There was some serious ash built up from the previous owner and after CMO was done, it was spotless. Even brushed/cleaned the fireplace log holder/stand. Took his time and did a great job. Scam artists!! We had C&M Outfitters out for a chimney cleaning and they were great. They told us we had some issues that needed repair and we believed them. Our house is 80 years old. 5 months later we had an issue with rain coming in. After identifying multiple problems they gave us 2 preliminary quotes (both way too expensive) and said they could better identify the true problem and rule out unnecessary repairs with a $300 leak assessment, saying $150 would be applied to any repairs. We stupidly agreed. The leak assessment consisted of spraying the garden hose at my chimney and then watching the water come in and photographing it. They then added to the original estimate. They had difficulty providing a detailed itemized estimate of the work they felt was required when I asked for one repeatedly. My husband got up on the roof and sealed the flashing himself. It's so weird. There's no more leak. Beware! This is scam! We lost $300. Don't do the same. read more
