I called Your Chimney Sweep Inc. To have my old 1995 chimney cleaned and inspected. I assumed it would be a long time before they could get to me, but they were able to fit me in within 4 days of contact! They were very responsive and communicative as to what the cleaning entails, the cost, and timing. On the day of the appointment, they sent me a text letting me know Joe the service tech was en route. Joe was a very customer-service-oriented, knowledgeable, and efficient tech. Great chimney sweeps! After dealing with a pretty abysmal group of sweepers who never actually managed to sweep my chimney, I decided to give Your Chimney Sweep a try. First, I noticed how great they are with communication. You can request an appt. right through their website (yourchimneysweep.com) and they are quick to respond. When inclement weather was forecasted for the day of our sweep, someone from them called me and confirmed that they expected to still make the appt. despite the weather and would continue to stay in touch if that changed. I really appreciated that level of communication and commitment to getting my chimney cleaned. The sweepers were friendly and happy to explain what they were doing as they went along. They not only swept the chimney but also pointed out potential trouble sources yet didn't pressure us to buy or do anything. We also got to see before and after pictures of inside our chimney. All the work was done inside the house using tools that went up the chimney rather than outside from the roof down. This was great as it meant less liability for both the sweeps and me with no one having to climb up on the precarious roof. Some of the cheaper chimney sweeps in the area don't offer this, I know for sure. So might be something to ask about if you go with someone else. But don't go with someone else. After an annual cleaning by another chimney sweep company, we learned that several of the terra cotta tiles lining our 40+ year old chimney had large cracks with house fire potential. That company recommended and quoted a process that poured a high heat solution over existing tiles with what to us was a high cost estimate. Visited O'Malia's Fireplace store and asked for their recommendations to get a second quote. They offered Your Chimney Sweep. Joe at Your Chimney Sweep arrived on time for our appointment, was respectful of our masking preference and covered his shoes and the front of our fireplace floor. He and his son inspected our chimney, took pictures of the interior, and patiently explained the findings. Large cracks were visually confirmed as was the potential for house fire. Joe brought not only chimney sweep and repair experience, he was a firefighter for years and now also teaches chimney repairs, fire dangers and safety practices to many professional organizations. Joe recommended a round, stainless steel chimney liner at a higher cost than the poured high-heat solution, plus Joe's method required removal of all existing terra cotta tiles which seemed to us to be more destructive and messy. We investigated both solutions and also got a third assessment that recommended the stainless steel liner with a significantly higher quote than Joe's. We select Your Chimney Sweep for the work. Joe and his team's work met or exceeded our every expectation, and every aspect of their quote. Despite the smaller, round stainless steel chimney interior, our chimney and fire box have NEVER worked better. I took the chance and I'm glad I did. The lady that answered the phone was very nice and not too chatty...scheduled me in and was very pleasant in general. They were scheduled today for 1:30. They were an hour late BUT.....I can handle people being late as long as there is communication! Not only did she call be BEFORE they were late to make sure I wouldn't need to reschedule but Brian (the tech) also call later on to verify that the timing was still good! The technicians discovered that the duct had no lint in it at all so they kindly--and ethically-- declined to charge for their services. 5 stars are a MUST for this company! Scott and I first found Your Chimney Sweep on Yelp and they were quick to respond to our questions and set up a date to come to the house. This time of year, the wait is a little longer (we waited a couple of weeks) but no big deal :) They called the day before to confirm the appointment and then arrived right on time the following day! I was working but according to Scott, who was home, Joe was as professional as it gets. Not only does he have state of the art equipment, but he takes his profession seriously. Joe inspected the chimney in its entirety - including a trip to the roof of our house to make sure there were not breaches or damage that could lead to a fire. The camera he used to inspect the chimney provided very clear images - which then went into a nice PDF to be emailed to us. It was really nice to see how the chimney was designed too! I like feeling involved in the process. Our neighbor apparently was in desperate need of a chimney sweep and came over while Joe was finishing up at our house. He was kind enough to go next door to take a look at their chimney too! Now that is 5-star service. The technician who came to my home did not have a good "bedside manner". While he was knowledgeable and gave helpful advice he was brusque in his demeanor and seemed to be trying to scare me. Unless I had asked follow up questions, he would basically have just said "that wood stove insert is terrible, will burn down your house, and is illegal" and left. I believe that he is correct in his assessment that my wood stove insert is a safety risk, but he is absolutely wrong for saying that it is illegal. It may be against current building code, not certified by the EPA (a regulatory body with no power to legislate law), and potentially voids my home insurance policy. But telling me quite firmly that it is illegal is not ethical and is a scare tactic, in my opinion. The tech made no effort to make helpful suggestions, or even commiserate with me even though I was clearly crestfallen at the bad news. Worse than that, I asked him how much a new wood stove insert would cost and he made no effort at selling to me. I had to drag the information out of him! As someone who works in the service industry and has a customer facing role, I understand that communication and kindness go as far, or farther, than simple technical expertise. I have no patience for service providers who don't have good customer service. I'll be removing the wood stove insert and calling a different company to inspect the fireplace. read more

We called JJC @ Your Chimney Sweep: Definition of Creosote: Creosote is a category of carbonaceous chemicals formed by the distillation of various tars and pyrolysis of plant-derived material, such as wood or fossil fuel. We have a gas fireplace, has always been gas. Never burned wood of any type. So . . . why was I charged almost $200. What did JJC do? Shouldn't he have stated that Creosote was not observed and just charge a 'trip' charge? read more

We have been using Your Chimney Sweep for over ten years, which makes us happy repeat customers. They are knowledgeable, experienced and excellent at their work. In fact, I believe that Joseph also trains others in the process and safety required for chimney sweeps. The equipment used keeps your house dust-free. With some of the new methods and technology, it may not even be necessary for them to climb on your roof (depends on your chimney and situation, however). They show you before and after photos so that you can actually see the amount of soot or creosote removed. One year a baffle was warped and needed to be replaced. They were able to alert us to this problem and to install the replacement. If there are any issues with the fireplace, they will let you know. Communication from the office is another plus because you always know what to expect. They are always dependable and on time. If they are running early, they will call to be sure you are home and available. I don't recall their ever running late. You can easily make appointments for a year in advance for anyone who is a regular at wood burning. We always recommend Your Chimney Sweep to our neighbors. read more

Finally a company that does superior work, shows up as scheduled, cleans up after themselves and finishes on time!! I cannot tell you how pleased my husband and I are with this company We hired them to rebuild the chimney from the roof up. Ron arrived at my home 3 days prior to the scheduled start of the job to MATCH the brick. We have a multi colored brick home, in Avon, with colors of dusty rose, various shades of tan and brown. After checking several brick chips we thought we found several close matches. On Monday he arrives on time and began the tear down. Once that was done he began to put a few bricks in place and realized that the color wasn't a good match. He then began to search Indy for the correct color and texture. 4 hours later and a trip to Fishers he returned and with what we needed. Ron and his assistant began to work and returned the next day to finish. Tuesday morning, as promised, they were back on the job and finished the brick work. Keep in mind that the brick needs to sit for 30 days before a seal can be applied. A couple days after the chimney was done, I get a call from their office for the balance of the payment. I said that I once before I paid for a job in full---my wedding pictures---and the guy failed so show up at the wedding! Therefore I was reluctant to pay the bill in full. I was assured that they would be back as promised. GUESS WHAT...THEY DID!!
