I have eaten at Brian's Bar-B-Q multiple times over the years. However the past few times I have eaten there it seems like they have cut back on the portions or out of food they are serving. This last time was the worst. My brother and I dined in. We had the two meat plate. I chose brisket and sausage and he had ribs and sausage. Surprised they had ribs since they are usually out. I received four pieces of brisket that were about two and half inches long with eight sausage slices along with a very small serving of potato salad. Beans were the right serving size. My brother received two small ribs that had very little meat and eight sausage slices along with small portion of potato salad like I received. I truly feel like I paid $37.00 for two very small child plates, since it took only three bites to eat the small portions of brisket and potato salad. Also the staff talks openly about issues with work and their private lives in front of customers. Which is never a good look for a business. Our table felt greasy and had crumbs on it that we had to wipe off with a napkin since the other tables felt greasy also. read more

But last night, our family went to a concert down at Brazosport College's Clarion Theater - and Brian's is only 5 minutes away! [Many thanks && nods to my family who indulge my passion for hunting down obscure BBQ joints.] Sadly, at 6pm Friday, they were out of ribs. Instead I got the 2-meat plate with sausage and brisket. Counter boy didn't know if they made their own sausage or not. After tasting it, I can assure him that they don't. Brisket (from the fatty end) was moist, tender, a tad overdone. Smoke ring was visible, but the smoky taste was weak. Sauce was too sweet, just didn't hit the spot at all. Cole slaw was the best side; crunchy and just a little sweet. Other family members got the sliced turkey - it was sliced from a large tubular chub. Service was on paper plates with plastic forks. Tables were covered with cowboy-themed fabric with clear plastic stapled on over. The decor was riotously great. In addition to the jackelope, Brian's has all kinds of cute and funny junk. Cigarstore Indian, cowboy chainsaw art statue, pastoral scenes painted on sawmill blades, local celebrity photos, cookoff awards. Yard-sale-a-ramma-ding-dong. I had a great time. Let me start by saying I have worked in the food and bar service industry for 15+ years. So I definitely understand how rushed the lunch hour can be for server or cashier. But the lady who runs the cash register at lunch was an awful person. She may be the owner or manager I don't know, but she needs to learn to treat customers who may be new or not familiar with her restaurant with more courtesy and respect. Brian's is a safe bet for barbeque in the Brazosport area. I give them the nod over the other place down the road because Brian's has corn on the cob...the other place has canned corn. This is definitely more of a "lunch" place and it's within eyesight of the plants. They do a huge lunch crowd and a minimal dinner crowd. It's basically open in the evenings so people can grab food on the way home. The target clientele are workers in the area and they do well with that, clearly. It's family owned and operated and the barbeque is very good. You can actually meet Brian himself and his wife during lunch on many days. The side items are pretty standard barbeque sides, which is to say "a-ok" but nothing to write home about. Their potato salad and coleslaw are both very good, though, and worth mentioning. The chopped beef sandwich - my go to item - is served on a hamburger bun. The pork ribs are great and the chicken is always very good. I've also had the sliced beef. You can come in here and order a plate with sides or order bulk food by the pound for take-home. Their loaded baked potatoes are excellent as well. The place is set up like a "lunch line" so you grab a tray and slide your way down as they make your order. They are generally well accommodating and have great iced tea and a barbeque bar with peppers, onions, pickles, and a wide array of hot sauces. Brian's has been around for years and it'll likely be around for years to come. Compared to the chains of barbeque places you find around Texas, Brian's is definitely the real deal. I could nit-pick a lot of things about this place but the overall experience is great and it serves this area well. My company has a client near Clute and one of the guys traveling with me suggested we eat there. I've been twice and I think the meat is decent but the sides are mediocre. The ribs are fall off the bone tender though they do have quite a few bones in them you need to lookout for. The sausage is your run of the mill sausage. The brisket was OK but I've yet to find a BBQ place that has brisket that is better than me or my friends can make. The sauce has a sweet and tangy taste to it. Its probably not for everyone but I like it. The side choices include green beans, pinto beans, slaw, potato salad, and corn on the cob. To me, the sides are not memorable. They have a very generic taste. At the end of the day it is one of the few places to eat in the area and it has some good points. read more

Food-good / Service-not so good Food- delicious, especially their bbq baked potatos with choice of meat. Desserts? - nothing fancy or worth writing home about. Service- the 'servers' can be cold and rude. Make sure you order exactly what you want the first time and don't forget to ask for sauce (bbq) because if you go back they will ask why you didn't ask the first time. Then they will remind you that you really should have asked for it the first time. Geez! It's just sauce. (they were serious!) Note- you order through a line, you are not waited on by a server. THE BEST FOOD THERE IS! Period! I have looked far and wide all over the country for good BBQ. Brian's does not disappoint, but what do I dream of... The giant Baked Potato covered in Pork or Brisket!!! This beast starts with a HUGE Baked potato, gets topped with Cheese, Sour cream, Butter and finally a giant mound of MEAT! My Heart and Arteries say NOOOOOOOOO!!!! My taste buds say CALL FOR BACKUP! At a little over 6 bucks, I cannot begin to explain the value here! If potatoes are not your thing, just ask for meat, you are going to want to order a pound or two to eat there, and about 5 or 6 more for the car ride home and maybe a little snack later. The meats have never let me down and are always Juicy with perfect Smoke. Some other places are hit and miss, but Brian's has consistency in that they are consistently Fricking Amazing!!! This is my Favorite Restaurant on the Planet! I have only 2 complaints and they are big ones... 1. I use to love going to Brian's to get a good bar-b-q sandwich. Brian's was always a much higher in cost to do so although very good. The issue over the past year or so has been an increase in their cost and smaller portions. Nobody likes it when a restaurant increases their cost although sometimes understandably necessary, but don't take away what your customers are use to getting! I've seen time and time again places like this go out of business based on loosing their customer base for these very reasons! This is our second time here. My gripes are around preferences. I like a strong smoke flavor on my bbq.i had ham (excellent) brisket and sausage with coleslaw and pinto beans. My wife had ribs and sausage with Pinto beans and green beans. We could not taste any smoke on any of the meat. The ribs fell off the bone and have good flavor. It had a smoke ring but almost tasted like it was fried. At some point the ribs were placed in an oven. You can tell due to the taste. The brisket was juicy but again no smoke. It had a bark. You see the theme... sausage was good. Would call this bbq... I'm gonna have to say no. Bbq requires smoke. None the less I enjoyed the other flavors. Would I come back for the bbq? Took him up on his tip. Glad I did. This place has some really good food and great smoke. I would recommend this place to everyone. If you're in town working, passing through the area or visiting, it's a must try if you are in the mood for some smoke heaven.
