Food was ok but nothing special. Flies were all over the place, too. The servers were friendly but that doesn't help if it takes an insane amount of time. Multiple parts of the order came out wrong. Decided to give this place a try. I had the shrimp plate. It came with 10 grilled shrimp, baked potato, hush puppies and choice of the days veggies. I really loved the shrimp flavor. Baked potato was good. Hush puppies were way too spicy for me! The hubby got the trio basket (fried shrimp, fried catfish, stuffed crab & fries. He said it was a good meal. The service was great. My big complaint is the air conditioning was barely working or maybe they keep it that way on purpose. It was too hot for us though! We will go back but maybe wait for cooler weather! read more

We stopped in hoping to be charmed by the little town and roadside cafe. It was ok, not bad, not the best. I just had chili cheese fries so it's hard to rate that. All the waitresses were so sweet and the food was amazing! The lemonade was the best I have had in a while and they got us our drinks appetizers and main course in less than an hour. The restaurant itself was decorated amazingly with loads of Texan and American like decor but the food was such as seafood and stuff like that,so the atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful. Solid. We have a plethora of food options in Austin, so I always hope to luck upon a similar quality when traveling. It's good eatin! From the outside, I was worried about a place to sit but then when we pulled around the side to park we were happy to see there was patio seating available. Then, when we walked in and saw there was plenty of room. We heard "sit wherever you want", so that's the small diner casual vibe I like to hear. The waitress/owner was sassy/sweet, which is also parallel to the experience I both expect and cherish. Ok so apart from the fact that the place looks like it's going to be a blast from the past on the outside the only thing that belongs in the past is the food in this restaurant. The Fried green beans apparently weren't suppose to exist because when we ordered our entrees we were told there were no green beans while we clealy had fried ones sitting on the table. I assume they are pre battered and frozen. My husband said the were good but that's a reach. My stuffed crab which was 12.99 by the way it says 11.99 but they ran out of white out (literally what she told me) for the menu prices. Food was over fried and not in any way what I would consider good. Do better Freeport... do better. read more

A pleasant, non-fancy place to have a meal on a Quintana Island beach day. I've had both breakfast and dinner there. Both were very good. The omelettes and hash browns are generous and satisfying (I couldn't finish the "Piggy" one). Their meat loaf for dinner is the best choice but any of the seafood baskets are delicious with the usual sides like fries or cole slaw. Service is quick and friendly. It sits in an area of Freeport that has seen better days, a bright spot in a place where there isn't much going on. Worth the trip if you're nearby. read more

A local diner with tons of old Polaroid photos all over. Very authentic Texas style food and you can get a mojito with breakfast. And chicken fried steak with potatoes and gravy. Gravy n biscuits and pancakes were spot on. Coffee took time for the right reason, they brewed the coffee when I ordered it. If you like gourmet and fancy, try elsewhere. The food was decent in taste and presentation but we ended up getting sick from it. If you go there definitely get a receipt and look it over - I was still eating when it was time to pay and hubby didn't get a receipt...when we got to the car he commented that he was surprised it was so expensive - $130 after tip for a party of 5. I did the math based on menu prices and it should have been $87 before tax and tip, so I went back in and asked for an itemized receipt. The waitress was defensive and argumentative from the get go. She claimed she didn't know how to print a receipt. I told her that when I added everything up it was significantly less and I couldn't understand how that could happen unless we were either charged gratuity or something was on our ticket we didn't order. She first said "yes everyone is automatically charged gratuity" - I pointed out that the menu says parties of 6 or more are charged gratuity - she said "oh my bad you're right and I didn't grat you." I asked her to add up everything for me since she couldn't provide a receipt, so I could understand how she got to that total. She pointed out we had a kids meal for someone over 12 but that only adds $1 - not the $20 or more that our ticket was over - she said well y'all had 5 drinks - I said yes I had added those too - so she started adding everything up and I mentioned that the prices on her handheld ordering device are ringing more than the menu prices, she snapped back that she's not the owner or manager. She could only get the total to $100, when it was $113 before tip, but she insisted she must be forgetting something. I said nope that's everything- she became irate and went to the back and loudly hollered for someone else to "come deal with this customer who accused me of charging her a grat!" So a guy came to the bar and asked what the problem was, I explained to him that when I added everything up it was significantly less than we were charged and that I'd asked for an itemized receipt. He said no problem and he did point out that the menu prices were a starting point due to inflation prices change at any time - i said yeah, even with those prices being higher it still didn't get close to what we were charged. He fiddled around a bit trying to remember how to print a receipt then he did. The inflated prices had only changed our total buy about $5, turns out we were charged a $18 gratuity after all. He showed the waitress and she did apologize and say she wouldn't have argued if she'd known that she did it, I said mistakes happen but we wouldn't have given the generous tip if we'd known we had also been charged a gratuity- he apologized and refunded the gratuity in cash. For the record I was not rude or argumentative, but remained calm yet stood my ground on wanting a receipt. The gentleman was polite and obliging, the waitress was defensive, argumentative and accusatory. We were just passing through the area but will never go back to this place, as I see after reading other reviews that others were overcharged or charged gratuities as well. Gratuity is fine but if I'm being charged it I don't tip because it is the tip, and again we were a party of 5 so we shouldn't have been charged it to begin with. It's a Texas-style diner near the Gulf so if you're from New Jersey, this is not a Garden State place. It is a comfortable place with burgers, fried fish, salads, and the like on the menu. I had the fried clam basket, really good but cooked a bit more than my liking. The owner waited on us and she was so friendly. She told us about their Steak Night and we will try it out.
