Love the Wurst Haus! Service was great and staff is very friendly. I Had the grilled buffalo chicken salad and hubby had the Reuben sandwich. Both were exceptional. Sunday Feb 8, 2026, we drove an hour to get to this restaurant because I was craving "THEIR" schnitzel, potatoes and red cabbage only to be TOTALLY disappointed in the food. For starters the draft beer I ordered was flat. Them my schnitzel was not prepared properly (pounded thin) prior to breading and cooking, cabbage looked and tasted like it came from a jar and the German fried potatoes looked like leftover scrap pieces not slices. The waitress actually told us that they stopped allowing drinks to be sent back because so many people were doing it and it was backing up the bar. I found this place while staying in the area for work and glad that I decided to give it a try. When I walked in I was amazed about how spacious it was and the large amount of bar seating. I had the 2 Wurst plate with red cabbage and sauerkraut. It was decent and prepared nicely. The bar tenders were attentive and friendly making it a good experience all around. Not sure why I haven't reviewed this place before, it's our go-to when we are in Lake Jackson. Large selection of beers with frequent rotations, always something good! There are a lot of taps on the wall, but I don't think there are quite that many beers available. No matter, we always find something we like. Salads are large, fresh and have a nice variety of fixings. The wings are amazing, burgers are big and juicy and the flat breads are awesome. Have heard great things about the steaks and German foods, as well. We are kind of creatures of habit and stick to our basic selections. The beef tips had absolutely no flavor and was very runny for a "stew". The potatoes were stale and just tasted old and not fresh. The cabbage was very sweet. We decided to give this place a try even after reading the poor reviews, I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a hostess and 2 servers, the place wasn't really busy except a few patrons at the bar and a couple seated at a table. We sat down and were greeted by Rusty, a sweet waitress with a shy disposition. She was very accommodating and brought out our drink order right away. We ordered the boudin balls, carbonara pasta with chicken and the 2 sausage plate! Well, let me just tell you that the pasta was exceptional.. the sauce was creamy and cheesy. I haven't been schooled on what to expect on a restaurant that serves German food but this is a decent place to try if you've never been to one in your life like I havn't. Judging from the reviews it seems a lot of people are a little disappointed at this place but it's done well for me. You will find this restaurant a little hidden but not totally if you drive down a street strangely named "That Way". It will be on your right hand side and parking is a plenty. As you step in you will notice there is a patio where you can also enjoy your meal. Once you step inside you are transformed into a semi dark restaurant where the host will greet you and lead you to your table. Handed a menu you will notice there is a pretty good selection of foods as well as descriptions for those of us non versed in German food. I can't tell you if it's all authentic but for first timers it'll do. After viewing the menu if you will look up if you havn't noticed already there is a decent sized bar with tapped beer for your drinking selection pleasure. Try not to order them all because it's eye appealing as it is tempting. I had the Schnitzels which I would describe as a pork tender instead of chicken tender. Don't get me wrong, it isn't exactly as how I explained it but it was the best. The batter is truly something different than what you would think of a tender but come in cylindrical finger food form. Next I tried the sausage plate which they call Bratwurst here. The traditional German and the Cheddar Bratwurst had a mild seasoned flavor that you will also probably note is not something that you can just go down to your local HEB and have. Accompanied with this were the sourkraut (how do you not try a German restaurant and not try the saurkraut right?) and the potatoes au gratin (wait, that wasn't German was it? hmm). We hadn't been to Wurst Haus in several years so having a waiter that could provide assistance was a plus. For my meal I got the Schnitzel and Wurst Combo that came with your choice of a sausage. I picked the German Bratwurst sausage and for my sides I got the German fried potatoes & sauerkraut. I wanted truly authentic. The flavor is amazing. They give you plenty of food which is absolutely worth the price. It's such a big meal that is hard to eat it all, but it's so good you don't want to stop. So definitely arrive hungry. For dessert we shared the Chocolate Eruption. It was a very large piece of cake that was plenty for us to share. After two years it's time to update my review. We had given up on one of our favorite local places. Even hesitant to update until we were sure. Our last couple visits have been outstanding! Jolee is the bartender to see!! The service is back up to where it was and gotten better. Food is great again. Come down to Lake Jackson and stop at Wurst Haus for a great evening.
