Brian is a fantastic vocal coach. I've heard my voice get progressively better since working with him. It's also great that he's happy to work within my genre of choice and help me with my personal goals. I can't recommend him enough! read more

Although, I was initially surprised when the address led me to a house. Brian explains the science of singing in a easy to understand way which I greatly appreciate due all the misconceptions surrounding singing. If you are wondering how the free intro lesson goes, Brian doesn't skimp out and continues to teach the lesson as though it was paid. I felt very comfortable with Brian and, due to his friendly nature, I believe you will also be comfortable to sing and receive advice to improve! read more

I reached out to Brian a few months ago, hoping that he can somehow improve my voice so that birds no longer drop out of the sky whenever I sing. I am an actor and have always shied away from theater auditions because of the singing component, and I was ready to change that. Alas, a few months and 13 sessions with Brian later, I can actually listen to a recording of my own singing voice and think "Hey! That sounded pretty good!" which I never thought would happen. The way Brian explains how the voice works allows you to visualize your own body as an instrument, which makes a world of difference when trying to make adjustments. When he helps you make an adjustment, you can physically feel the difference so that you can recreate it again and again until it becomes second nature. I never felt like I was throwing darts in the dark. Making a change during an exercise then being able to immediately apply it to a song that you're working on feels incredible. His expertise aside, Brian is just an overall very friendly and approachable guy. He balances serious professionalism with a sense of humor that can put anyone at ease. I can't explain the feeling of being able to hit notes that were completely inaccessible to me just a few sessions ago. When I can so concretely feel and hear the difference, I have absolutely no doubt that sessions with Brian is money well spent. Can't recommend him enough. Trust me on this and give the guy a try. read more

I love jamming. Whether it's with a friend or by myself, I love singing and playing my guitar. I, however, never got vocal lessons. I found out about Brian's vocal lessons through yelp after searching "free vocal lessons" (l o l I know) on Yelp. Upon reading all the positive reviews, I decided to call the phone number provided on the business page to no avail. I called a second time, and Brian picked up. I had told Brian that I was interested in the "1 Free Introductory Voice Lesson" and he said that he would get back to me as soon as possible as he was in the middle of a session. He also had told me to text him my name so that he could call me back. I ended up booking an appointment with him this past Monday (11/19/17) which changed my life. Unfortunately, I live in Long Beach so the drive to Pasadena was about an hour. I, stupidly, left my house at 12:30 P.M. (when my session was at 1:00 P.M.) and asked Brian if we could reschedule. He, however, said that it was okay that I come at 1:30 P.M. (my eta) because he was available. I called Brian right after I parked (on his side of the street as told to) and he told me to just walk straight to his garage where his mini studio (WOW I know!) was located. He had informed me to 1. prepare a song that I knew well that was mildly challenging for me and 2. bring a phone with a recording app with at least 2GB of free space ("voice memos" that comes standard on the iPhone worked perfect). The session: I was actually told by someone a while back to flex my stomach whenever I sang to properly "sing" from my diaphragm. Brian debunked that myth for me and THOROUGHLY explained to me what singing from your diaphragm actually means through an anatomical picture of a diaphragm. Just throughout the whole session, Brian backed up everything he was saying by showing me the anatomy of the internal organs of the body. In addition to the anatomy, Brian also told me that because he had extensive experience working with different vocal teachers, he had figured out which methods of singing were correct. This also comforted me because I figured that I'm learning from someone who experienced incorrect methods so that I don't have to experience those methods. Brian mentioned at the beginning of the session that he wasn't a naturally gifted singer and that he worked his butt off to hit certain notes. When I heard that, for 1. I immediately grew respect for him and 2. I'm also not a naturally gifted singer so it was encouraging to hear that someone like me could improve my vocal range. I believe I ended up staying past the "free" hour but Brian was very understanding. I'm now scheduled for my next session with Brian this Saturday and will now consider meeting with Brian on a continuous basis. Brian charges $80 which I think is worth what he brings to the table: his energy, his education, and his humor. Brian's the man. Have him for your vocal teacher because you will not regret it I assure you! :-) read more

I first started lessons with Brian in approximately year 2017-2018 and have been with about 3 vocal coaches/teachers prior to Brian within a span of about 4 years. He definitely tops all of them, as he takes a very technical approach to singing. All the other coaches before did not explain the intricacies of the voice, nor properly diagnose the issues that I was experiencing with my vocal technique. One of the main reasons I appreciate Brian's teaching is that he is able to diagnose you as a singer where you are at in your vocal level/skill and journey, identify the deficiencies, and teach you how to treat them and improve upon them. For the longest time I would use YouTube videos of vocal teachers, in addition to in-person vocal coaches and I could not figure out why I was not improving in the manner I wanted to. Online YouTube videos are great for learning how to sing; however, there is a certain limit you reach when relying solely on them because you need a proper trainer to diagnose where you are at as a vocalist/singer. We are all in different places in our vocal journeys and have very unique voices, therefore requiring someone with the eyes and ears to properly identify what defects that we have in our techniques and apply the right approach to fix them and improve upon them. As an example, I greatly struggle with my mid to low range and singing through initial verses of a song can be very exhausting and difficult. The reason why is because I was applying the techniques and tonalities that I use in my high range to my lower range and now I'm learning how to train my voice to apply the proper techniques and tonalities according to the range I'm in. No vocal coach prior to Brian diagnosed this issue or properly explained it to me. Brian is truly a vocal technician. read more

I studied voice with Brian for nearly a year, and I improved a lot with just a couple lessons each month. I was able to sing Adele ballads with ease, and I learned how to control tiny muscles i never knew I had! Brian's teaching style is all the main ways that people learn: visual, auditory, and tactile. He shows you diagrams, listens, and even has you put your hands on your face to show how open your mouth should be! I highly recommend Brian for all you future rock stars! read more

Brian is wonderful!! He knows how to pinpoint exactly what to work on and gets the point across in such an effortless way. Having been classically trained most of my life, his lessons have been very transformative and eye-opening. It's clear that he devotes so much to learning and teaching in the best possible way for all his students, and it's been such a lovely experience working with him!! read more

I found Brian on Yelp, and decided to try taking a introductory lesson with him. I have been singing the same way for years and did not realize my vocal potential until meeting with him. Brian really took the time to breakdown the anatomy of the voice (something that usually isn't addressed in lessons), and I felt like it made a huge difference once we started doing the exercises. He also gave constant and honest feedback along the way. For example, I usually sing with my eye closed, and as soon as he advised me to practice singing with my eyes open, I instantly felt an increase in my confidence! Brian is friendly and energetic, and I appreciate his sincerity and teaching style. I'd definitely recommend giving him a try if you're willing and ready to challenge yourself to be a stronger singer. read more

Fantastic voice coach. Brian explains concepts in a practical and clear way-- the sign of a fantastic teacher who understands his craft. After a few lessons, I understood the fundamentals of singing, and felt confident in what I needed to do to continue improving. He unlocked the potential of my voice immediately! read more

Brian is the most considerate, most patient, vocal coach I have ever worked with. He also cares, in a professional manner, about his students and doesn't place any uncomfortable expectations upon them. He communicates quickly and efficiently, and is very flexible with dates and times. He's very knowledgeable in his field from a musical and medical standpoint. This really helps to understand the mechanics of singing, and as a result makes you more aware of the muscles you're using and how you're using them. I have definitely improved my talent immeasurably since working with Brian for the past couple of months! I look forward to continue working with Brian and I highly recommend him to any and everyone! read more

I had my first singing session with Brian today. I was blown away by how much Brian had to share and how little I know about what's involved in singing. Brian is very professional, efficient and on point. I am impressed by how sensitive his listening skill is. He catches the slightest shift in my voice. Brian elaborated all the necessary theories in singing: how to breath correctly, how to manipulate our voice, how to contract the right muscles etc. I have been singing all these years without even knowing most of these. So glad I found Brian on Yelp and gave him a try. I very much look forward to the next session, to finally sing correctly and use what I have to maximum potential. I very much recommend Brian Lin. read more

I've worked with a couple of vocal coaches in the past but the difference with Brian is that he'll help you achieve the sound YOU want to achieve instead of the style of the coach. He's got a solid understanding of the physiology of how the vocal folds and related anatomy all works together and can articulate in a way that makes you fully visualize what you're doing. And best of all he's results drive so can get you to that place faster than you thought! Plus he's got a great personality and sense of humor! read more

As a professional in healthcare education with training in adult learning theory, I can attest to the teaching skills Brian possesses. He addresses the mental framework required for good technique, and has the ability to translate that knowledge to instruct the psychomotor domain. I came to him as a beginner. While he works with high level performers, it is clear that he has an ability to teach at a level specific to the learner. He is adept at diagnosing technical issues and pivoting to exercises designed to aid improvement. Besides all this, he's super- cool and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him. read more

PSA: Only one side of the street has street parking. Don't park at the wrong side! I have been singing on and off for about 15 years, but I've never gotten serious about singing until 2 years ago when I started to sing in the USC Concert Choir. Since most of my influence on my current singing technique comes from the classical/choir side of things, I thought I needed some help in sounding more "pop" and eliminating some of my choir habits that might not be the best for a solo singer. So I went to visit Brian last Saturday to have him help me out with Maroon 5's Sunday Morning, a song I'm planning to sing in a singing contest. On top of giving you instructions of how does he want you to sing, he also spends time in explaining why he wants you to sing in the way he wants you to sing, which was really helpful to me. Some of his instructions can be a little... unorthodox, such as the "Chinese Stance" and "Snarl", but they always end up in producing a better quality of sound, and of course he explains why he's asking to snarl or stand in an awkward stance. So, apart from making you a better singers, you'll also walk away with more knowledge about your own voice. read more

Amazing first lesson with Brian! My boyfriend was with my during my lesson and he noticed a difference in my voice. I reached notes higher than I've been able to reach just in the first lesson! He understands the vocal chords and techniques because he's worked through so many himself! I think it's very important that the teacher understands what the student is going through. I'm so excited to improve my singing with Brian. Thank you! read more

Brian Lin Voice Studio - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Pasadena, California

I've been Brian's student for several years now. I've tried several teachers in the past who spoke very vaguely when explaining things. My favorite thing about Brian is that he explains things very clearly and scientifically. I am now able to navigate through my high registers much more effortlessly. Singing has become more enjoyable now that my technique has advanced. Brian's wonderfully warm and encouraging personality certainly helped as well! On top of that, the price was super reasonable and totally worth it. read more

As an entertainer, singing has always been the one thing i could never get, but really wanted. Even harmonizing was an impossible task for me. Within the 1st lesson, BrIan got me to a level that was actually bearable to the human ear. Within a couple months of lessons, not only was my (singing) voice in pitch and in tune, but i was auditioning for roles that required singing! The tools i received here not only helped with my singing, but also my Voice Over work, and getting ready for filming and auditions(just speaking). My voice never sounded so good! I have been to a few voice coaches in the past (per my agent's request), and Brian's coaching takes the cake. He keeps it simple, does not give a cookie-cutter approach (its personalized), and it helps that Brian is an outstanding singer, so that you have something to listen to and mimic as you go through the exercises (believe it or not i've been to voice coaches who can't sing...yes, really). read more

Brian is very easy to work with and makes you feel very comfortable. This is my first voice coach and I wouldn't want anyone else. He has been through tons of coaches himself and has learned what works and what doesn't work. So it's nice that he knows how to fine tune YOUR voice. He also uses a lot of anatomy to explain how the voice works. It makes sense because just using your diaphragm isn't the only tool you need to become a great singer. read more

Amazing voice teacher!! Brian has the incredible ability to meld professionalism and fun! He not only challenges you to grow but his fun personality makes voice lessons enjoyable and not a bore. I've seen many voice teachers and I've never met one like Brian. He also knows his stuff and has studied how the vocal instrument works. This is something I've never seen in voice teachers in the past. No matter where you're starting in your vocal adventure or career, Brian is so patient. He'll teach you things you've never known before in order to better what you have, and to take care of it so that you can sing at your best for the rest of your life. Seriously, if you've never gone to Brian Lin Voice Studio, you're missing out! read more

I was a bit hesitant at first on how much a vocal coach can even help. But the session with Brian showed me that it's good to have someone point out information and learnings that is relevant to you personally. I knew about all the stuff that we went over but it didn't click until I had a session with Brian. Overall, I would say I improved quite a bit. read more

I went to Brian with a project in mind for my wife's 50th birthday celebration. I had no experience in singing at all...just the usual in car singing. I wanted to surprise her with a song that had meaning to us. He allowed me to have confidence in myself and providing feedback that was critical to the video that we taped at the end of the project. Once we shot the video, he gave me some tips that would allow the video to come to life. Although my singing is still not where I wanted to be, it was enough in the few lessons we had to allow me to finish the project that was memorable for my wife's birthday. His lessons are worth it. Thanks Brian! read more

100% RECOMMEND!!!! What can I say more than I had an amazing experience! Ive never learn so much about my voice. Brian is an excellent teacher. Patient. Pushes you to push yourself but is still encouraging. Personalizes the experience so that it is easier for you to absorb what he is teaching you. I could not have been happier and more thrilled with my lesson. This is the first of many as I learn to expand and grow my voice stronger and stronger. Best instructor I have ever had, and I have a lot of hobbies....definitely going to be bringing my children to learn from Brian as well. Wouldn't trust anyone else with our voices. read more

I came to Brian's studio with no previous experience and zero confidence in my voice. The day of my first lesson, I immediately noticed how incredibly kind he is and how knowledgeable he is in both the functions and the techniques of a voice. I've been training with him for almost a year and a half now, and I have noticed a huge difference in my vocal abilities. My range is wider, and I sing much more confidently because of him. I enjoy singing everywhere I go now because of Brian, which speaks volumes of his genius! I am very proud to be a student of Brian's. Thank you, Brian, for all of your patience and encouragement!! You are wonderful. read more

Wow, where to begin. I guess I'll start off by saying thank you. Thank you Brian for your time and dedication during every session so far, but especially for believing in me. For believing I could do things with my voice I never thought would be possible. For answering the questions that have accumulated throughout the years when it came to singing by explaining the science behind it. I tend to be very shy, but have felt very comfortable and consider Brian's studio a safe haven for all music lovers. I'm excited to continue working and learning, I have already felt and heard so much improvement in my voice and confidence. If you're considering taking a voice lesson, don't be afraid to give it a shot! Brian will guide you every step of the way and it'll be fun! Million thank you's again. read more

I've been taking lessons from Brian for about three months now. Before Brian, I was SO scared of singing. It was intimidating to think about singing and I would have anxiety attacks. Fast forward three months, I'm singing Ariana Grande songs with much more volume and confidence--something I never thought I would be able to do. I learned the scientific differences between different registers of the voice, which helps me problem solve when I'm practicing. Brian makes you feel at home and is super friendly. You can ask him pretty much anything you want and he'll have a good answer for it. He's also great at calming my nerves with his humor. The other reviews weren't lying, Brian really is a special teacher and you will learn a lot from his unique approach. read more

I am so thankful and grateful for Brian Lin! My voice reached a plateau and wasn't getting any better, it wasn't getting stronger and I was getting more frustrated. I decided to mentally let go of my passion for singing and embrace the fact that I wasn't going to get any better. And then I met Brian. Long story short, he took my voice and completely transformed it in two weeks time with two sessions each week. I was able to belt, sing high and low notes strong and confidently, and my voice wasn't hoarse after all that singing because of the proper techniques. Brian is truly gifted and was born to teach! If you've given up or simply have bad habits and damage to reverse, then Brian is your guy! read more

I am a experienced singer but haven't had a vocal coach lesson in over ten years. I wanted to start up again so I did some research and found Brian. Can't wait to help my voice become stronger and wider in range, overall great experience! Thank you Brian! read more

Best decision I've made in a long time. I've taken voice lessons for 10+ years but what Brian taught me on my first day blew my mind. I've always been tempted to take voice lessons but was held back by the fear or embarrassment of not being able to develop a voice. After countless concerts in the shower and performances in my car driving down the highway, I decided it was time and took a chance with Brian. Talk about a welcoming, thorough, and constructive lesson! This was my first attempt at voice lessons and it's honestly taught me so much about what it takes to wield ones voice and enhance its potential. From this first lesson, I've learned a lot about my vocal capabilities and how to nurture them. You can tell that Brian enjoys what he does and genuinely wants to help you achieve a better sound and for you to walk away with the skills to do so. I'm both sad that it took so long for me to gain the courage, but ecstatic to know that I have a great mentor like Brian to practice with! Here's to starting my singing journey! read more

Brian Lin is an incredibly patient and knowledgeable instructor and his studio is warm and welcoming. After an early analysis of where you are vocally, Brian is able to create lessons for each individual's needs and able to give excellent advice on what to work on outside of the lesson. He is very well educated having come from the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California and is also bilingual in Chinese and English. I wanted to take lessons for a year before I made a proper review. Honestly I can't say enough good things about Brian, he took a voice I hated and has turned it into something I enjoy practicing with and singing. By no means am I a great singer yet but I'm far better than I was a year ago and my voice can do things I never thought possible. Where do I begin. I've been researching and trained with so called experts. Only to realize they had no clue or just wanted money. He continues to answer my questions that I may have patiently(much respect). And at-times continues to give me extra training. I'm an old school R&B fan and want to learn how to sing professionally one day. And so far hes taught me more than I've learned in just 2 weeks. I Highly recommend anyone to gove him a shot.
