After my acting teacher recommended all actors do vocal training, I took the opportunity to try it. As an adult beginner with no real singing experience, searching for a place to start was intimidating, but I'm so glad I took the leap with this studio. Through the Vocal Foundation program with Stuart Wheeler, I've learned that I'm indeed NOT tone-deaf, and that with the right training and technique, I've been able to unlock a part of my voice that I've not been able to access until now. Stuart is a highly-skilled teacher, singer, and musician, with the ability to articulate complex musical terms in a way that easily clicks in my mind (and I'm not an easy person to teach!). He is a patient, compassionate instructor who provides a safe, fun space to learn and explore. I've enjoyed being able to choose the songs that we work on. My lessons have always been insightful and surprisingly empowering. In just a few months, I've gained much more control and confidence in my own voice, expanded my range, learned to be more mentally focused and present, and have sharpened my listening skills. I like that he fosters your instinct as an artist and works with your point of view. It's a fine balance! When I learned he started an in-person Acting Technique class, I knew I had to give it a try. His VO classes are amazing so I figured this class would be too. I was right! I've been going for almost 6 months and I've learned so much. The class is so unique in that it touches upon several exercises and techniques to give you a well-rounded experience. There is scene work, yes, but that's just one of a number of things we work on. There are different improv exercises, character work assignments, mock-auditions, and scene work that is rehearsed and ultimately filmed. I can really see improvement when looking back at my earlier clips in class. I HIGHLY recommend checking out his classes, especially his Acting Technique class. David is a wonderful, encouraging teacher with a wealth of knowledge and the ability to give clear direction while fostering your own unique voice.

As accomplished, knowledgeable, and pleasant as she is, lessons with her are as instructive as they are entertaining. Often coming to her with a wealth of questions at the top of our weekly, far-too-short hour together ("time flies when you're ..."), she's never failed to answer each with depth and clarity. After this, as expected, we go through-or vacillate between lesson-to-lesson: technique; theory; ear-training; and our current piece of music. For said music, I've brought in to learn:   - video game tunes - the heaviest metal - 90s pop - hip-hop from high school - and far, far, far too difficult classical compositions (which she politely--but importantly--asked me to put aside for ... awhile)   All save for the last--and the last in time (we'll get to that Tchaikovsky one day, Darya!), she welcomed each with a smile.
