Brian Head is a good ski resort for beginners. They offer tons of small runs which are pretty good. They also have tons of space in the Navajo section of he resort. Tons of space for beginners. The only drawbacks is that the person who was servicing us in the front gave us tickets for the next day. This was extremely frustrating because we had limited time. Also, visibility sometimes can be very poor at times. Finally, a ski instructor hit me and just went off. He asked me if I was ok, but didn't bother to help me up or even offer me any help. read more

This review is for Navajo lodge and ski lift in Brian Head. This is probably one of the best ski resort for beginners and intermediates because of long bunny hills and green slopes. There is a shuttle that runs circles around the town that you can use for free to get to the ski lodge. Once you get to the Navajo lodge, there is guest services that can help you. They have a small coffee shop and small food court. Ticket booths are inside on top floor. Rental and lockers are at the bottom floor. I was there for holiday weekend and rental plus lift for a day was close to 200, it was very expensive. Equipment looked nice and new. They have lockers, small one for $10 and bigger one for $12. It was very hard to use the locker screen because it was very old and I think it lost some Sensitivity, they should fix it. Also make sure you pick right locker, left side is 12 right side is 10. I started skiing at the bunny Hills, they have a very nice lift and bunny Hills is very long, I enjoyed practicing at the bunny Hills. Then I moved to Navajo lift. At the top everything is clearly marked, I used two ski trails. Navajo trail was perfect for me as intermediate. Other one was paradise trail, it was also very good. They load lifts from two sides, left and right. Left looked less people at each time. Lift is fast and takes 5 people. Staff was friendly. If you are beginner or intermediate, I suggest Navajo lodge and lift in Brian head. read more

The slops here are beginner to intermediate so if you're learning its perfect! My friend took his son snowboarding for the first time, after 2.5 days he was starting to get it and was really excited. The first day we took him on the beginner slope, with the "magic carpet" which means you don't go up a lift, just a conveyer belt takes you to the top of the really slight incline, They both bought tickets, but i don't think you need to purchase tickets for this part, you can just go for free. Not 100% but no one was checking their day passes. The mountain is separated into 2 sides a beginner (Navajo) side and an intermediate/advanced (Giant Steps) side. By day 2 my friends son was able to go up Navajo lift, its not that steep right off the lift and i think its easier to learn on a slope thats not super flat and also longer so you can just keep heading down for a longer distance. By the end of the trip he was able to go down the Navajo lift heal side without falling or only falling once or twice. Not bad for his first 2.5 days! The Giant Steps side I'd consider Intermediate maybe a bit more than that at some places depending on the conditions. Some of the runs are good, but too short for me. It also totally depends on the conditions. The first day i was there, there had not been any new snow for at least 4 days, it was pretty blah, icy conditions, short runs, slow lifts; I was glad not to be at work but not super enthusiastic. The good thing about the resort is that it's Utah's highest ski resort at 9600 feet. So for day 2 we got 7" over night. The fresh powder was super light and fluffy and i had untracked powder for the first hour or so. The resort is only 650 acres so it gets tracked over pretty quickly, but as in any resort there are always hidden pockets for pow that you can find in the middle of the day, in fact i found a nice pocket of steep and deep powder at the end of the day! The good thing is that there are not too many people there so the lines are pretty short and not much waiting, the bad thing is that most of the lifts are very slow, there is only 1 high speed quad on the Giant Steps side. It's a 3 hour drive from Las Vegas, I'd come back to make another combination Vegas/snowboard trip, but only if i knew there was going to be fresh snow. read more

Brian Head offers a great getaway for Las Vegans during the summer when it's too hot to go outside at home and in the winter for those seeking the fun of snow. There are not many services in the town so don't plan to eat out a lot, buy a lot of gas, or go out for a crazy night on the town. Throughout town, you will find abundant ATV and snowmobile trails. Summer: There are nice hikes throughout the area and the chairlift runs so mountain bikers can enjoy the thrill of the downhill. There are numerous cycling paths spanning from relatively easy to extremely difficult. ATV'ing is a popular past time for those visiting. Thunder Mountain rents ATVs and also takes people out for group rides. Winter: Southern Californians frequent Brian Head because they find good snow (of course, nothing like what is found farther north) with smaller crowds than in their local ski areas. There are slopes from beginner to double-black diamond and there is a separate lodge for the ski school and beginning slopes so slower skiers and more experienced skiers can each enjoy their unique environments. Boarders will enjoy the bowls and skiers and boarders alike will find jumps and ramps to their delight. In a good snow year, powder skiing through the trees is delightful. For those who wish to enjoy the snow in alternative ways, there are two official tubing hills and snowmobiling is very popular for both locals and visitors. Again, Thunder Mountain rents snowmobiles and they guide snowmobile tours. An Added Bonus: Cedar Breaks is only 15 minutes away so be sure to enjoy the beauty of this national monument while visiting. read more

After along spell, I returned to Brianhead. It's snow is amung the lightest and fluffiest around and the price cannot be beat. With many other resorts raising prices at astronomical rates, Brianhead has somehow been able to maintain a reasonable ticket price. The mountain may not be the biggest, but you can certainly have some fun. It has gained 2 new lifts since the last time I was there in 2007 and has upgraded the main Giant Steps lift to an express quad. Personally, I just wander down the mountain in random runs to try and catch as much fresh powder as I can. My kids learned to ski and snowboard here, so I will always have fond memories. I also love the scenery and the lodge at Giant Steps. One word of caution. The resort has a base elevation of 9600 feet and is 11000 (almost) at the summit. The base elevation is the highest in Utah and is higher than most other places in the US. Take time to acclimate (drink lots of water and refrain from alcohol) for the first couple of days. Trust me on this. Even I have an issue on the first day. Happy skiing. read more

I wish I lived closer to this resort.. I love it so much! This resort has so many trails for all levels of snowboarders/skiers from beginner to expert. I also love how empty it is compared to Big Bear and Mammoth! I am a beginner who has been trying to learn how to carve and it makes it harder for me when it's crowded or there are inconsiderate boarders passing by. I'm so happy to say I was able to learn on these slopes!! There's so much space for learning and so many different trails I doubt you will be stuck at a busy area unless it's at the bunny slop)es or very beginner area. Also, the powdery soft snow makes falling bearable. I fell and tumbled so many times but I didn't mind it since it wasn't icy. We did experience high winds at one point of our day and had to wait it out before chairlifts opened again which was a bummer but we used that time to eat lunch. Reasonable lift ticket prices, no crowds, and soft snow are keys to a perfect snow day for me :) read more

I really like going here with my family. I'd love to give them 5 stars, but the snowboarders here are out of control. The "slow" signs are routinely ignored. Lest anyone say this is a trivial concern, last season my 11 year old sister was hurt pretty bad and part of her ear was sliced after a snowboarder crashed into her. There's plenty of room on the mountain for everyone- including snowboarders, but management has got to make sure it's a safe experience for everyone. read more

I haven't been to brian head before, so this was a first for me. I stayed for 3 days in cedar city, just a 30 min drive away. So okay, the price of a full day lift ticket is $60 a day (holiday price) so I decided to go with the season pass which was $199 with college ID, and lasts until April (end of the season). During the holiday season this pass will get you riding the slopes past their 4:30pm cut off times for half day users long until 9:00pm. The staff working the slopes were all extremely cool and chill (no pun intended) and the lines for the lifts went by really fast. The slopes weren't overly crowded considering the holiday season is supposed to be the busiest time of the year. The snow was a little iced the first day but by day 2 and 3 brian head gained another 3 inches and the powder made carving extremely smooth and made amateurs like myself look like Shaun White. It also made falling down on the park side jumps more cushioned for my delicate behind. And trust me, it was much needed, for the amount of times my butt met the snow. My only complaint is that the slopes are a bit too short, and there aren't many options (maybe 3 or 4 runs) compared to the first place I've been to (mammoth mountain), but for a Vegas local to travel a fraction of the distance and get more white powder than scar face; I'd say brian head is no brainer. read more

I had the best time snowboarding in Navajo. This review is NOT about my snowboarding experience. This is solely about the food court and a certain employee. Apologies for anyone with a sensitive stomach. I also feel bad for leaving this review but this MUST be addressed IMMEDIATELY. My boyfriend and I watched the cashier in the food court area pick her nose with her long nail and immediately put the same nail in her mouth. She didn't just do it once or twice or thrice. We literally lost count while eating our food. It was so weird because she wasn't even trying to be discreet about it. She was openly doing it in public. She also kept touching her nose and whole face. At one point, she ate fries with her coworker at the cashier's station (unprofessional but honestly the least of our concerns) but we had to watch her get some sauce and touch everything that customers touch after what we already witnessed. We were just in shock.... The following day we saw her again and it didn't seem like she was working because we saw her very briefly. My boyfriend saw her and immediately told me she's doing the same thing! Picking her nose and putting it in her mouth! In less than five seconds that I glanced at her, I saw her do it again! This is SO concerning and like I said above, it should be addressed immediately. Imagine what happens to food that guests eat while being prepared in the back..... read more

We came here end of March during our kids spring break... Before arriving... -book ski/snowboard lessons -book ski school (if you want your kiddo in threre) -book lift tickets -ski/snowboard rentals (FYI-you have only ONE change, if you decide you rather snowboard one day and ski another day) After we checked into our hotel, we walked around the resort and picked our rentals and dropped them at the "dropoff" area where they hold your gear to the next day. So convenient! Cause the next day, there was a LONG line to pick up rental gear. We had booked a private 2.5 hour ski lesson for our family (2 adults, 10 yr old, 8 yr old and 4 yr old). We got Oso. He was the BEST!!!! He was super patient, encouraging and enthusiastic with us and our kids. We were concerned about our 4 yr old not being able to do it or getting discouraged, but because Oso kept him engaged, he lasted and survived! The slopes here are very doable for beginners like us. The staff on the other hand....there were one or two super friendly super helpful employees...but there were 2 that had attitude for days!! One of them was at the "dropoff" area with a mustache and beard, I had asked to drop off my stuff and he let out this extreme annoyed sigh as if I was totally just irritated him. If you don't like your job, then get a new one!!! But if you're having a bad day, don't give other people a hard time! The other horrible attitude was at the ticketing area. He had drawn in eyebrows. I inquired about if we could switch our ski lesson to snowboarding lesson. But before I could finish, he rudely interrupted me and said "wait, so do you or do you not have a reservation!?!?" I said "yes I currently do" and then he rudely said "we're all booked until April 3rd!!" I told him "no, I have a lesson already booked and just wanted to see about switching.." before I could finish he interrupted me again and said "Once again, like I said, we're all booked till April 3rd!!" At that point I'm confused and said "what does that mean!?" He said annoyedly "Our instructors are for specific, either ski or snowboard!!" I then understood what he was trying to tell me. I thought an instructor could do either ski or snowboard, I didn't know they had their strengths. But I still don't think I deserved ALL that ATTITUDE!!!! Besides those 2 people, we had an amazing time here! I would definitely recommend coming to this place, just have your guard up that you might get served a platter of attitude from a few employees while here. read more

Sure wish I came on yelp before I booked my reservations. My bad, I miss read the policy and thought you could cancel 48 hours prior and get a refund. DO NOT BOOK UNLESS YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU ARE GOING. You may have an emergency and need to cancel but that doesn't matter either. NO REFUNDS. But they do offer you a credit, if you can fly back from Hawaii within two months. They just made $200.00 off of me and will probably make another $200.00 by rebooking someone else. Very Sad!!! read more

I had been wanting to ski this area for a while. I finally made it. It's a little over a 3 hour drive from Las Vegas. You hit 3 states on this trip and there is some construction on I-15 in Arizona. There are 2 base areas: 1. Navajo Mountain 2. Brian Head Peak Navajo is the main lodge with a bigger restaurant, ski shop and ski school. It is primarily the beginner mountain with some nice Blue runs. I liked skiing over there but the #4 chair is so slow. i know it's the beginner are but it would be so much better if they put a newer faster chair in place of chair#4. The backside of Navajo has some nice cruising runs and you just have to ski over the road bridge to chair 8 to get to Brian Head Peak. BH Peak is the expert/intermediate mountain. It has the steeper, harder runs. It was full of nice cruising runs and the terrain park. There is a smaller ski shop, rental shop & Bar/restaurant on this side of the mountain. The only bad thing was it was really windy during my visit. I felt like I was being blown back up the hill. It's less windy on the Navajo side. The lift ticket was only $35 for the day. It was well worth the drive to ski Brian Head. I recommend this ski resort if you are in the Las Vegas or St. George area. read more

We have been going to Brian Head for decades with our family! It has such an awesome family friendly vibe. You can ski/board, go tubing, snowmobile at Thunder Mountain Motorsports and also this year ice skate outdoors at a new rink that was built basically on the mountain. If your looking for a super challenging double black diamond mountain with a typical big mountain downtown with lots of bars, restaurants, movie theater(s) and pretentious people looking to be seen with "it's all about me" attitudes, please go to another mountain resort!! If your looking for a low key, cost effective, relaxing time in the mountains for you and your family with no pretentiousness and wonderful kind visitors and resort staff, Brian Head might be a place for you! Brian Head Resort is an outstanding mountain for those that love to ski/board, snowmobile, tube/sled, snowshoe (rentals available at Brian Head Sports & George's) and enjoy the outdoors while a good time at night might include enjoying live music at the Giant Steps base lodge, reading by a fire or watching a good movie on DVD with your family at your hotel or cabin/condo rental. We recently looked up the cost of a 1 day lift ticket at Mammoth Mountain for 2021 and was shocked to see a 1 day adult lift ticket is over $200 this year! Brian Head is a much smaller family focused mountain, but is also HALF the price per day at just about $100 for a full day adult ticket for the 2021 season. We love Brian Head Resort and have made many great family memories over the years! read more

We have consistently had exceptional experiences at Brian Head resort and this year was no different. Positives: 1. Kids ski lessons are outstanding. The value is unparalleled. The coaches have incredible skill and patience. I am sure all the coaches are amazing, but we have had personal experience with Coach Oso, Tim and Sofie. They not only taught our kids to ski, but also took a true interest in them and connected on a personal level. They have remembered us from year to year and call my kids by name!!!! 2. Adult lessons are excellent. I went from never ever to maybe catching my 6 year old after just a few lessons. 3. Snow is great 4. All staff are very friendly and helpful. 5. Affordable for a whole family. 6. Navaho side is great for first timers 7. They are taking Covid seriously and working hard to make this a fun family friendly activity in a year when so many other things are much less safe. Negatives: None However be warned the altitude is no joke, plan a day to adapt, rest a lot, drink lots of water. read more

A cute town and ski mountain. Unfortunately for a family friendly mountain. We left feeling quite the opposite. We booked private ski lessons for our boys and once there/checked in were told we had to create a separate reservation due to age parameters. For one, the computer system should have caught that...secondly for privates to add another child it is an up charge of $150 per child. That's fine, however due to the age parameters we were expected to pay for a completely separate lesson at over $300. This is NOT family friendly at all and a disgusting money grab. Third on top of all of that, rentals are not included with a lesson so another $65 money grab for each kid...we paid close to $1000 for lessons for our kids, yep this is for just one day! This has completely deterred us from wanting to come back. Kids ski free, but anyone trying to get their kids in the sport are clearly paying for that. Nickel and diming people is a terrible practice! And fourth...we were lied to about the instructor that we requested for one of the kids on the second day. My child was extremely confused as to why we were told she had a family event and then we saw her instructing. She was also quite upset about the situation. The staff was busy picking up the pieces of managements mismanagement. Great staff, but we will likely continue our ski trips at other mountains that actually are "family friendly" read more

Mountain is just ok. My comment is that the operation of this place (like Lee Canyon) is a disaster. I have been here for 3 days now and the lockers are cash only which is weird in 2024. This is our third year skiing Brian Head and absolutely love it! We travel with another family and we always get our two boys a private lesson to start off our week of skiing. The had instructor, Sam Kovac, the boys immediately bonded with Sam. He really helped the kids feel comfortable going out of their comfort zone. The boys loved him so much, we called and requested an additional lesson with Sam on our last day of skiing. Once Sam was confirmed for our boys, they were so happy. After their last lesson with Sam, they can't wait to come back and hopefully have Sam as an instructor again. Thank you, Sam, for making our boy's vacation extra special. I traveled to Brian Head from Vegas for my first skiing trip, but met with some difficulties along the way. The website to book my travel was absolutely terrible and needs a complete overhaul. It was an absolute terrible experience trying to book the hotel, lift, equipment, and lessons. The website was not clear at all and I tried contacting customer service for support 7 times over the span of two weeks and never reach through to anyone and never got a call back. After that I gave up and did the best I could to try and figure it out on my own. Worst experience ever. Overall, the rental portion of my trip was not bad, but could have been better. The staff was friendly, but when I explained that I wear two different sized shoes, he said it didn't matter and gave me the same boot size for both feet, making it uncomfortable on my left foot to wear the ski boot. The quality was alright, but the ski equipment was worn down and needed refurbishment. The efficiency issues I had stem from the issues trying to book it online and the problems trying to get dates to match. I took lessons while i was there and my brother and I took beginner lesson on Wednesday 2/15 with CW. He was amazing and a great instructor helping us learn the basics, despite the fact that it was -1 and felt like -18 during the blizzard that was happening that day. He made me feel competent to go down the slopes and even helped me go up a lift for the first time. The private lesson my brother took the next day was not good, and definitely not worth the price given the level of knowledge the tutor had. The Instructor did not seemed qualified to be teaching. she did not have the social aptitude or the vocabulary knowledge to assist me in learning. I took a group lesson the first day and wanted a private lesson on the second hoping to learn more, but did not get the knowledge i expected to given the price for the private lesson. Overall, the staff was horrible, but the slopes were lots of fun to go down! read more

Expensive SERVICE under New Management- Probably the last time I would visit this place. I visited the place back 2018 & took ski school when it was half the price ($150 with all equipment was included). This time at ski school no equipment was include so it was twice as expensive ($330). In addition, the customer service was not completely military friendly. Brian Head Resort does NOT believe all military veterans deserve a discount for service to one's country. Again, the Customer Experience was a bait and switch feeling for the ski school. I would NOT recommend this location to any military families since there are plenty of other ski resorts North of this area. read more

Brianhead was a hidden gem and our go-to ski resort during the winter. We usually go in February, but have been here once for Christmas. It gets pretty busy here during those times, which makes for crowded slopes, crowded indoor facilities and has become a not-so-hidden gem. Our kids have taken ski lessons here, as well as snowboarding when they were younger. Excellent classes, in which a few also provide a snack break and lunch. A must, especially for the younger crowd. They have since moved on from the lessons and prefer to ski the slopes with adult supervision. My hubby prefers this place to the much closer Big Bear. It's all about the "fresh powder" and surprisingly, this resort is more affordable than others (ski-lift and rentals). We've rented several cabins around the area and drive down to the resort. The parking can get pretty crowded, so just drop off your group at the front and hunt down a parking spot. There is a snack bar/restaurant inside that serves your usual hamburgers, pizzas, sandwiches, etc and a Starbucks. Not many restaurants when you get up on the mountain (which, by the way, is the highest point in all of Utah). Definitely try the tubing! You can book it online (which is highly recommended days before) to secure a 2 hour time slot. It costs $20/person and is well worth it. It's only a 3 hour drive from Vegas, and an 8 hour from San Diego. read more

Great trip to Brianhead Resort again. Wanted to give honorable mention to my daughters ski instructor Shayne Whitehead (A.K.A Oso). Oso was fun and dedicated to his students. I've spent a lifetime skiing in Comrade Newsome's Kalifornja so finding amazing terrain and snow at literally 30% of the price per day was overwhelming. The only factor which caused me to deduct a star is the atrocious attitude and ineptitude of the staff. I can forgive the lack of amenities, given the low prices and great skiing, but the entitled losers who staff this place would be out on their ear at any up-market resort. I really don't enjoy having to place the same cafeteria food order FOUR times to two different stoners, and then receive an attitude laced sigh when I call to attention their failure at customer service. Despite my disappointment in this regard, I'm likely to return with my family next year if not sooner. If, however, Brian Head wishes to join the big leagues and start charging the prices of resorts with comparable terrain, they better step their game way way way up. read more

Major shout-out to Evie, the manager that saved the day by altering my group booking over the weekend of February 6, 2021 when we were about to miss our tubing reservation! I visited Brian Head this past weekend with my boyfriend and his 7 and 5 year old children to go tubing and ice skating. We planned to leave Las Vegas early on Saturday morning to make our tubing reservation that afternoon from 2:30p until 4:00p (last reservation of the day!), but by 1:00p we were sure we would miss out due to unexpected delays. I called the resort hoping something could be done and (thankfully) Evie answered my call. Evie was more than understanding and moved our reservation to 11:00a the following day, even though she only had 2 spots left in the 11:00a group and there were 4 people in my party. First time at Brian Head and certainly won't be my last! I went on a girls trip to ski and we all booked beginner ski lessons. He was awesome! The 2 friends I went with told me they took lessons last year too and the instructor was awful. I was a bit nervous after hearing that but I had nothing to worry about! Kim was patient and took his time to explain everything. He made the 2 hour lesson fun and always reminded us to smile throughout the whole session. I would love to take another lesson with him.
