I like being able to say good things about people and businesses, so I'm happy to sit down and write about Brian Dempsey's. This is a standard local bar that has a steady stream of regulars, but even on my very first visit to Brian Dempsey's I never got a vibe like as if I didn't belong. I've sat at the bar and also at the high top tables and one thing remained consistent: the attentiveness of the service. The bartenders are friendly and accommodating. They happily bring to your attention any specials for the day or for upcoming days, and you are never waiting too long for your next drink. One thing about the waitresses that you might take for granted is that they will greet you with a smile as soon as you approach the seating area...again, a very welcoming environment. The bartenders and waitstaff can all recommend things off the menu (another thing you might take for granted but I've been served by many people who didn't seem to have a good grasp on their own menu). Overall, the general feeling I get from the staff is that they like each other, they like working there, and they want the bar to do well so they put their best foot forward. On to the food: The wings are best I've had in Queens. This is my go-to spot when I have a craving for buffalo wings, and you can't beat their .25 wing specials (dine-in only, I believe on Sunday). I've had their burger ($4 for burger and fries on Monday, .75 extra for cheese, mushrooms, etc.) and it was decent. Not incredible, but definitely edible. Beer selection: Standard domestics on tap like Bud and Miller; Sam Adams and Sam Adams seasonal. Imported drafts like Guinness and Stella. They'll rotate in other beers, some of which include: Smithwick's, Pumpkin Ale (forget brand), and most recently Saranac Rudy's Spiced Christmas Ale. TVs: A couple of years ago, the bar was lined with old tube TVs that were on their last legs. I mentioned that in a review of another local bar awhile back, and one of the workers sent me a message that Dempsey's had upgraded. Wanted to try a different place in Bayside. We were fortunate enough to sit in Brook's part of the bar smh. She was not inviting amongst other things but I will keep it professional. I order calamari. As soon as it was brought out I could tell they weren't good by the color, lack of breading, and no tentacles. It was chewy, not seasoned just disgusting. You would think that marinara would help right? Wrong. It was bland and watery. The both of us couldn't eat it. I tell Brooke about the food and she says absolutely nothing in reply. Then we figure we can't go wrong with wings. They were .30 (5 minimum and 2 drink minimum). We got the honey garlic. At first taste you say ok but as your chewing it becomes evident that the flavor is just surface. The chicken itself isn't seasoned. We were hungry so we ate them. Time for a second round of drinks. My friend had an issue with the boat load of ice in the cider. I mention it to Brook instead of offering to rereplace the drink she says do we want it strained. No like it's been sitting and is watered down. To keep it light my friend just drank it. She then proceeds to talk about me or us to the other bartender who by the way had a nice demeanor and was smiling. At this point we should have left but we were engaged in the best conversation with a guy who's been going there since the 80's. He said the food is good here. I really doubt that I'd give it a chance though (and I believe in 2nd chances). IF... if I do come back I will be sure to sit by another bartender. read more

I've been here a couple of times. The first time I went for lunch and it was dead in there. The staff was super friendly and the food was good. They had a special for a steak sandwich and it was really good! The second time I went in for a late lunch and this time it was packed. The waitress we had was super friendly and attentive. We had fries, wings, and calamari. Great! Way too much food LOL. The wings were really good. The calamari was.... EEEHhhhhh. Stick with the bar food staples. I will go back because the atmosphere is great and the staff helps with that. The food is decent and I did like the wings. You know what they need Tator tots... I came here on Sunday to watch the football games with quite a large party. More people than I thought would come, but they were very understanding of us taking more tables and pushing it together. We sat in the back area with high tables. We came to watch the football games, and the walls were literally lined with TV's so no matter where you're looking, you're watching the game. They also were good about changing which TV's to whatever game you wanted to watch, although they said they didn't get all the games which is understandable. The service here was very attentive. They came multiple times to make sure that we were OK, and cleared our tables to make sure we always had enough room. I have a feeling we were being serviced by the owner or manager, but I can't be sure, but he was extremely friendly. On Sundays, they had a few awesome specials. They had 25 cent wings. We tried the teriyaki (which didn't taste like teriyaki at all, but it was still good), honey bbq (good), spicy (i'm not a fan of spicy things in general but my friends said it was good), and crispy (which i thought had a tiny bit of spice to it, but again i don't tolerate spicy that well... but I still thought crispy was awesome). They had another special that was buy 2 dinners for the price of one. We didn't take advantage of that so can't really comment there. In terms of drinks, which let's face it, which is the driving force of watching a game at a bar, they had 3.50 buds, bud lights, coors and coors lights. For the same beers, you could get a pitcher for $12. I think the pitchers were a little small (I feel like the four cups I poured them into were not completely full but the pitcher was empty) but overall still a good deal. We ordered two full servings of wings, one with honey garlic and another with garlic. Honey garlic wings were kind of awful. The honey was really hot and coated the wings, and we had to wait forever for the honey to cool down. That being said, they use real honey for this. It's sweet. It's REALLY sweet. Garlic wings were appetizing, but I think the chicken was on the dry side. On a positive note, service is impeccable here. Our server seated us right away and went over menu specials. He checked up on us every now and then, which I appreciated because we were at the corner-most table. I came here with my friends for my friends birthday and we got a table. We ordered food and drinks. Our waitress was pretty nice and the food was tasty! I ordered the chicken quesadilla which was good. We also told them it was my friends birthday and they sang to her. They also gave her a birthday shot. Terrible experience tonight at the bar. Went into the bar at 5p. Ordered a Stella. Got charged $7.00 and the beer was in a 10oz mixing glass. These were happy hour prices?! Glancing at the rest of the bar, other Stella drinkers had a proper pint. When I challenged the bartender on the glass, she traded it out. When I was in Dempsey's last week, I got a proper pour of Stella for $6.00. Why the price difference and the short pour?? Had never visited Dempsey's with this bartender, so in my opinion, I'm not one of her regulars and she clearly took advantage. Pure and simple. Taking me for 2 ounces and a &1.00 more in her pocket. After serving me, she went down to the end of the bar where the regulars were and the next two times I had an empty glass, I waited for the conversation to end before service came back my way. I just recently started coming here and honestly its my favorite spot on bell, im so tired of the over crowded bars and finally happy to find something local with a great family feeling. The staff is kind and really tries to get to know you. The owners are there every night ready to hear feedback, have a drink with you, and laugh. Managers are always ready to fix any issues that may come up and its honestly such a nice little spot to come with some friends. The food is amazing and i have found anywhere with better bbq wings. Let me start off by saying that Brian Dempsey's is a great bar....some great bartenders (Mariesa, Kim, Estefania...etc.). Why the one star? One word - LINDA. She has to be one of the worst bartenders ever and I cannot for the life of me, figure out why she's still here. She's rude, ignores people, overcharges, steals, is generally everything that is bad about bartenders. Her "significant other", Ray, seems nice, but face it...he wears so much cologne that when he stands still, he leaves a puddle. Oh...and stop with the effing balloons. No one falls for the fact that there is some amazing party in the back. To Brian and Jose; you must have heard this before, please...please...please...please get rid of this leech who has absolutely no business serving people over the age of 6. When I actually make my way over to Dempsey's I always end up having a pretty great time. The bartenders are always helpful and nice to talk to. They offer good happy hour specials during the week which is always a plus. It's definitely more of a dive bar, the type of place you would want to go for a casual drink. Karaoke nights are always fun with DJ Pauly, who will have you dancing on the dance floor all night long! Surprisingly the food here is pretty good! They have 1$ tacos for taco Tuesday, great wings, awesome quesadillas and burgers. Definitely good bar food! Been coming do Dempsey's for many years and it's like the bar that time forgot. It's the same now as 15 years ago. The cold is decent, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the jukebox has a load of randomness on it. Many weekends feature live music and an older crowd for the early part of the night. This place turns into meet-market central for under-thirty-somethings every night after 9 (although no one ever actually seems to pick up anyone here.. they just want to be seen). A whole lot of frat boys mixed with a few sluts and a few deep, intellectual, self-obsessed chicks. Every night there's some kind of special (10-cent wings, $3 burgers, $2 Miller Lites, stuff like that) so you can always hang out cheaply here. To get the right kind of preferential treatment from the bartenders, please remember to tip on the full price, people. Earlier in the evening there are usually a few Dropkick Murphys fans hanging out, making the place tolerable. Sometimes there are bikers, but usually the cuddly Long Island midlife crisis kind. Bartenders are usually totally hot with nothing going on upstairs, so order everything using one-syllable words. I kid you not. You will get good buybacks, but it might be because they can't count. This place is good for: -Meeting up with your newly single friends who *think* they want to meet people but actually just want to be cruised. -Meeting up with your friends who are cheap and grumble about $4 beers and generally have a bad time everywhere due to their cheapness. -Meeting up with people who you haven't seen in a while and whose tastes in bars you can't be sure about. -Avoiding Lucky's when you're hanging out with your single friends. read more

This place is a bit out there and populated heavily with college kids even though, I'm not sure St John's or Queens College is even that close to here. We came here for the Wednesday 20 cent wing night. The group I traveled with each had 10 wings. Wusses. I went easy tonight and only went with 20. When you're with a bunch of young impressionable youth, you don't want to scare them. The wings themselves were decent at best. They had 4 varieties: hot, mild, teriyaki, and bbq. I got the teriyaki and hot. The teriyaki didn't taste like anything and looked like it was just poured from a Nissen sauce bottle. The hot wings were essentially Texas Pete. The bbq was some liquid sauce that didn't taste like anything either. The wings themselves were nothing special. They were a decent size and fried. The only thing that made this worthwhile was that they were 20 cents. They gave bleu cheese. Drink prices were nothing special. My pint of Sam Adams was 5 bucks. The service was decent. There were a bunch of loud college kids. Parking was not that hard to find. Would I come back? Eh, if I'm in town and I'm really jonesing for some wings...and it's Wednesday. read more

The first big turn off was the doorman who groaned and rolled his eyes at me over showing my passport. Since when was a passport not an acceptable form of ID? The last bar I had been to in the area didn't recognize my California Drivers license, so I figured passport was a sure bet, as it is recognized world wide. Step it up Bayside. this bar/resturant is located on the sprawl that is Bell Blvd in the Bayside Queens area. many bars and eateries to choose from and I have been a patron to most at one time or another. a place usually has to knock my socks off or piss me off something fierce to write a review and Dempsey's is the former. the staff is polite and friendly, the steak and chicken quesadilla is literally the best I've ever had, like, ever. and I've had quesadillas in Mexico and all across the U.S. they will stock a specific vodka (cough, American Harvest, cough) if it's delicious and you request it often enough like I did. come in any day of the week and get the steak and chicken quesadilla and tell me I'm wrong. ¢25 wings and $9 domestic pitchers on Sun. 2 for 1 dinner meals $3 miller lite bottles on Sun. and Tues. $4 burgers and $3 miller lite bottles on Mon. $1 taco as well as $3 miller lite bottles on Tues. and Thurs. ¢20 wings $3 domestic pints Wed. Sometimes the wings are cold-warm and pretty small, other times there big and happily fresh. The burgers.... they charge you for the PLOT (pickles, lettuce, tomato, onions, and anything else you want on the burger). So even though it's $4 it can go up to $10. Also, when you ask for Medium Rare... you get Medium Well.... Even though you make sure that their definition of MR is a warm red center. The bun for the burger isn't a regular burger bun, I believe they use a wonderful sourdough bread... but I could be wrong (I'll update this later with the exact type). Sometimes the servers are negligent and rude, other times they are adept and friendly. You never know what you'll get when you come here. There is no deals that I'm aware of for Fri. & Sat. Location, it's convenient and the kitchen is open 'til 12AM So yes, I will go back. They have decent deals. read more

Yes! I don't go to bars very often because I typically don't like the atmosphere. That being said, I found this place to be amazing! Came super late on a Friday night/Saturday morning. There was some excitement going on but it wasn't too crowded. There was a DJ spinning some pretty good tunes, and the music was super, super loud. I know it's a bar, but damn! Can't a homegirl keep her eardrums?! lol Our bartender was super attentive & was able to accommodate my weird alcohol requests. Really, she made several adjustments to my tequila sunrise so that I could not only drink it, but enjoy it. Surprisingly, the food was really good! I can see having quite a few hit or miss experiences in this place, but all in all it's not bad. I like the variety of their daily specials and happy hours lists, which could be nice for coming here often. It seems like an Irish-style pub, but thankfully does not pretend to be, writing "American Ale House" very prominently on its sign. $3 cheapies and $4 premium/craft beers during happy hour, not bad.
