This place is too damn expensive for the product they put out. A large coffee is over three dollars and a medium coffee is over $2.50. The pastry is too expensive and too rich in taste and texture. The bagels are average but again too expensive. The customer service is pretty bad, as the hired help, probably teenagers from Hingham, know nothing about the products they are selling and if you ask for a price, they need to look it up at the cash register. I don't recommend this place for coffee or the food, unless you are rich and like rich food. read more

Been coming here for years. Unfortunately, ordering here is near impossible at this point. It seems like a wild concept, but believe it or not, when you work in food service, you're supposed to listen to the customer's order before you make it. Not make whatever you think I said. Shocking. Have questions? Then ask me to repeat the order. Their point of sale system is garbage. They will ring you in for two things, and then forget to give you the second thing you paid for. After you ask for what they charged you for, be sure to be met with attitude. How dare I correct you! News flash: you work in customer service. If you can't do the bare basics of the job: leave. Aside from two women who work here, the ladies here look like they are performing rocket science trying to figure out how to make a drink. I order, they say something different. When there Friday afternoon with my 3 year old son the employees weren't doing anything I politely asked them for cookies, they didn't acknowledge me I asked again they looked at me and didn't seem to care, then a woman came they serve her as soon as she got in they definitely are discriminating people and I felt so bad I left soon after seeing that that is not a good place. We dropped in for a caffeine emergency when I spotted the giant coffee cup sign from the road. I was impressed when we stepped into the place. The decor was pretty nice, it was full of people - all good signs. I got to the counter and gave my usual smile and a "Hi, how are you?" to be greeted by an impatient look and a curt "How can I help you?" Look, I worked retail for years - I know how it is. But you never let your emotions carry through to customers who are seeing you for the first time and are framing their experience (and Yelp review) around their first impression of you. Ordered some kind of cold root beer drink and an iced coffee with some kind of syrup. The cashier told me to hold and shouted to another girl to ask if they had any root beer syrup left. Nope. OK, we changed that order. Then she asked me what my other drink was. Iced coffee. Size? Medium. Anything else? Yes, the syrup. How would you like it? Cream and sugar. I have the memory of a gnat, but could you really not remember a single bit of my second order? We waited for a while for our drinks, which is fine, I'm not an impatient person. Our drinks come out and I can see from halfway across the cafe in the semi-darkness that my coffee is more cream than sugar. Dunkin' Donuts puts less cream in my coffee. I also then realized that there's cream and sugar on the little island in the middle of the cafe. Why not let me add the stuff myself and save yourself the trouble and myself the disappointment? The drinks were good. I would have really liked my coffee if it wasn't 90% cream. Girlfriend reported that her cookie shake was really good. I'd probably go back and give them one more try. They weren't verbally abusive - perhaps just verbally abused, whether by other staff or customers. Customer service seems to be a consistent theme. My impression of the place isn't helped by the fact that the website is down because the place "has not paid its bill." So, all in all, good coffee, mediocre experience. Be wary of the overall management - their website is far far far from promising. If you're in a pinch, it's worth the unfriendly atmosphere. If not, just go to a Dunkin' or Starbucks where people tend to be happier. read more

If you're looking for a coffee shop to go to, this is not the one! As a former employee I can attest to all the one star reviews, and am actually disappointed I cannot give it 0 stars, because that what it deserves. The staff I worked with are beyond lazy and rude, besides maybe two college girls who genuinely worked hard, everyone else I had to ASK them to get off their phones and pour coffee, or take out trash or help a customer at least 10 times a shift. The staff comes in hungover, angry, and upset at life every day so I cant blame all the horrible reviews because I for one would NEVER come here on a day off just because I know the service would be horrible. As for just stopping to get a quick coffee, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE there's a Starbucks right down the street :) The owner is an abusive greek man and his wife who care nothing about the staff, or quality of the store, only about if they make money. He screams at his workers in broken English and I have even heard him call multiple people "F*cking assholes" to their face and have them keep working. His wife's advise when told that one employee was being threatened at work by another coworker was "If she comes in and punches you just punch her back" Do not give these money hungry people any more of your dollars. When notified that the workers were even doing drugs in the bathroom the owner didn't care one bit, only asked if it was busy that day. The food you order is guaranteed to have been touched without gloves, the cookies ARE as stale as you think they are, and the amount of flies in the muffin case is quite disgusting. I come here often on weekend mornings and the drip coffee and cafe au laits are always great. I recently tried their chai latte with almond milk (a drink I often get other places) and it was probably the best one I have ever had. He asked for the manager and the manager didn't understand how they could be stale "because they are supposed to last three months." By far the worst "dining" experience I have had in Hingham as far as quality, service, and overall experience. Customer service was poor from the greeting to taking my order. Unprofessional service and lack of effort showed. This very simple sandwich was made incorrectly and tomato was forgotten and when I took my lunch up to be fixed it took longer than it should have and the tomato was a light pink tinge. This tasteless turkey, tomato, and "greens" sandwich was sloppily thrown on some dry what to have seemed to be yesterday's bread. I was asked what I would like on the side (options being chips, potato salad, or coleslaw). I chose potato salad and the amount they put in a plastic cup was comical. It may have been half of one small potato. In fact I ate it with my toothpick since plastic ware was self serve and not visible. Tables & chairs were not clean and bathroom unpleasant. I recently stopped by to see if I could use $3 in gift certificates (they were gift certificates that were the physical paper ones so I've had them for a long time!) I went to order and asked if I could use them and the girl who waited on me wasn't sure and went to ask another coworker, she came back over with someone else and told me we wouldn't be able accept them and didn't say anything else after. It's crazy that they wouldn't honor them, they didn't even have an expiration date on them!!! I was very disappointed with the service and walked out of the store. I have only had breakfast sandwiches and iced coffees here, but I love the cozy coffee shop ambiance and large menu. It is like a local version of Starbucks! She was incredibly rude to us for no reason at all. I just had a terrible experience at brewed awakenings in Hingham square. We stopped in for a coffee and a hot chocolate for my five year old daughter. First they gave my daughter my mocha coffee honest mistake next while browsing the pastries I noticed a cheese Danish I was thinking about getting a few for the morning when I noticed bugs crawling on it. I became a regular here on Sunday mornings during my break at work and the wait staff remembered much of my regular order. I haven't had an issue with an incorrect order, but often times, they would run out of an ingredient for my favorite coffee, the Cinnful Delight, and there was this one awkward time in the winter I walked there in a snowstorm and nobody had keys for the registers well into opening hours. I guess things like this happen at small businesses, but no reason they should not monitor their inventory and sales more closely so as to not run out of product. I have had their regular coffee in hot and iced in both hazelnut and regular blends, which are served black. In the same fashion as Starbucks, there is a counter with dairy, dairy substitutes, and sweeteners for you to finish preparing it yourself. Whereas competitors finish the coffee with measured or automated portions before serving it, this can be a little inconvenient, and depending on how you prep your coffee, you may have to empty some of it out. The coffee itself is pretty alright. Their specialty coffees have the ingredients mixed and blended behind the counter. They tend to be on the sweet side and don't have a pronounced coffee quality to them, almost like liquid candy. The hot mocha au lait seemed thick with cocoa, for instance, and my favorite cinnful delight is super sugary and explosive with energy. If you're one of those people who like the coffee flavor masked or just want your caffeine fix, this is all fine, but don't expect "coffee" out of these specialty coffees. I have only been here during breakfast hours. The bagels are done fresh in the building, and the breakfast sandwich goods go into a Turbochef oven. I like the BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise) on an everything bagel, and the lettuce and tomato have always been fresh. I have had a sausage, egg, and cheese also, and found that the sausage patty was pleasantly simple and juicy, whereas a lot of fast food places would have it dry and spongy. The bakery goods themselves on display at the front are huge and a meal all on their own. As with the sausage patty, you bite into it and you can tell they are made of simple, wholesome ingredients. The pecan bar is a personal favorite of mine, but it is incredibly rich and therefore tough to eat in one sitting. The seven layer bar has a complex mix of flavors and is incredibly sweet. The cannoli is delightfully crunchy and light. Some of the smaller goods on the far side of the counter are cute, such as the cookies with the checkerboard pattern. Also for sale are numerous coffee blends by the pound, and an assortment of cereals and healthy foods and beverages on the back wall. They also sell fruit and yogurt. There are two yogurts they do, both with fruits added - there's a traditional sweet yogurt with berries, and a Greek yogurt with all kinds of citrus which has a sour and tangy flavor profile, and I love the latter for energy and protein. The cafe isn't always clean, as people leave newspapers and napkins everywhere, and the staff aren't really on top of that. I can always find a clean table to sit at in the morning because I usually end up going between 6:30 and 7:30, but that is beside the point. People tend to utilize the dish tub they put above the trash can, thankfully. There are bathrooms for public use here. Brewed Awakenings extensive selection of pastries and coffee flavors, but all the pastries are well-done. Prices are higher than most competitors. Service is timely but it's not high-speed enough to make a great on-the-go, low-budget pick-me-up stop on the way to work. A lot of people who are driving in the area or backing out of a spot aren't very attentive and parking is limited to the street side. If you're not in a rush or if you're making good time in your travel, check it out. read more

I have been here multiple times when visiting family in the area and the lattes are good but inconsistent. Baked goods are a mixed bag as well. The girls at the counter never seem happy to be taking orders. In my recent experience I was given the incorrect latte by the barista. I got the dirtiest look and response when I told her. Needless to say I just left with the wrong latte. Then when I got to the car she hadn't put the lid on right and the entire cup spilled everywhere. The girls here are FANTASTIC. However i see why a few people have commented on the attitude problem. I watched the customer in front of me order over $30 in coffees, teas, and sandwiches and not tip the girl a single penny. I would have an attitude too! A dollar bill goes a long way people.
