Coffee was great & pastries look amazing Although I will say two ladies there were exceptionally mean for no reason. I asked for a macchiato and one of the girls made it wrong, so I kindly asked if they could remake it correctly. Cashier got super defensive and mad that I asked for it fixed insisting that it was correct, she asked someone else to fix it and she said and I quote "I don't even know this girl." I will say, I can take a lot of hits- but many of people can not- I at least am glad it was me and not somebody else. You never know what kind of day someone is having, being stressed and frazzled under a rush is totally understandable, however you do not have to make the customers your emotional punching bags. I ended up getting the right order when it was remade and it was good, but I will say if you're having a bad day already this might not be the best place to go to. read more

Ok I don't know why people wanna bash this place. Been here 2 times in the last couple of weeks. First time was a Sunday and they were slammed. Families with kids and grandparents it was a madhouse lol. Nevertheless they got our order out and it was really good. Their pastry selection is what always gets me, it's excellent! Brewed Awakenings is a busy place, especially on the weekends. Located in the heart of Hingham center, right next to an excellent ice cream parlor and down the street from the vintage Loring Theater, it's a good place to stop for a drink and a quick bite. I find both to be dependable here. The pastries look absolutely delicious, but they're just not on my current diet :/ There's usually enough seating, but today my companion and I shared a table with another couple--no problem in this friendly little town. For me, this was a huge disappointment. It was pretty pricey, $40 for 2 pastries, a açaí bowl, and 2 coffees. The place is cute, sure. I got a açaí bowl. It was in the case with all the other pastries. I said for it to be to go, but the said "Açaí bowl for here". It was in a glass bowl. I told her it was for to go, and she just put it in a container. When I got to my car, it was literally soup. Completely melted. I also got a coffee and asked for milk in it but very little milk. When I got the drink, I tried it and it was straight milk. We were wandering around my husband's home town of Hingham and were in need of beverages and a bathroom. We passed Brewed Awakenings and popped inside. It was a fine experience, but nothing remarkable. There's a ton of baked goods and pastries offered here but, having just eaten, we weren't really in the mood for that. My husband was parched so a big bottle of water was called for. I got a very large iced tea. Service was fine, nothing overly friendly or overly unfriendly. Just basic and transactional. Restroom was clean. The dining area is spacious and it holds the benefit of being the one coffee shop that we found right on Main Street so it's convenient in that way, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Stopped here twice on a day trip to Hingham. First stop was for lunch. I added all veggies but cooked peppers to a half tuna sandwich. The sourdough bread and veggies were fresh and went well with tuna. Half sandwich was plenty for one! The white chip, cranberry, oat chip cookie was delicious and could have been shared. A vanilla coffee rounded out my meal in a rainy day. Service was friendly and the baked goods would have kept me coming back. Lovely and tempting! 2nd trip was a mocha latte made with dark chocolate. Perfect treat to warm me up for evening return. I highly recommend and found this spot, suggested by locals, to be worth a visit! read more

Only tried their hot drinks as we stopped by Christmas Eve. Very pleasant and efficient service. Drinks were very good. Fairly quiet when we were there; I'm sure we did not see it at it's best, as most people were probably out for Christmas. All of our drinks were well-made and reasonably priced. Very cute coffee shop in Hingham square. You can get a variety of flavored iced teas which is awesome, most recently a mango iced tea. The coffee is also yummy, tends to be on the dark side. They have a ton of pastries, from breakfast muffins to actual cakes. While I have not tried them, they do offer breakfast sandwiches. A comfortable dining room is the extent of what's enjoyable at Brewed Awakenings. I ordered The Leaner, a turkey pastrami sandwich "served warm" with melted Swiss and Dijon mustard on toasted sourdough. At least that's how it's billed. What arrived was roast beef - yes, roast beef - on an under-baked French loaf with cold, hard Swiss and plain mustard. I asked if I could get the right protein on my sandwich, to which the teenage staffers replied, "I knew I messed that up. They look alike!" Cool, yo. If your religion forbids the consumption of certain animals, um, lift the lid on your sando. They rectified the situation by simply replacing the beef with pastrami. Same bread and cheese with my initial, confounded bite taken out of it. Aside from that lovely fiasco, the baked goods look freshly unwrapped from a Costco platter. It's got the location and a cozy dining space, however, and I'm sure the coffee drinks are delightful - unfortunately, the menu is an eye chart preventing any understanding of what's in what. As a customer who is from California and was visiting Hingham for the first time, I thought this cafe was cute & quaint :) The first thing you'll notice upon entrance is the generous amount of baked goods surrounding the cash register. It's pretty hard to decide what to get when everything looks so mouthwatering! Next, other food & drink. I clearly didn't try everything this place has to offer, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I did order- which was the caesar salad with grilled chicken on top. I'm a huge caesar salad lover so I tend to criticize it wherever I go. Verdict? I definitely loved it from here! Everything was very fresh, especially the grilled chicken! (ridiculously delicious). As for the drink review? Read on. The downsides: * They can definitely try to put more effort into cleaning up their tables & chairs. I don't mind wiping off crumbs or coffee spillage myself when necessary, but some seating areas were pretty gross & required more than just a napkin to clean. * I wasn't too impressed with their coffee. The mocha tasted very bland and watery. This place has a cute coffee-inspired name, but the coffee itself needs more TLC. * Customer service could be better. The lady at the register seemed really impatient with my older aunt and I when we were trying to decide what drinks to get (mind you, the place was empty and no one was waiting behind us). Don't let the downsides deter you from coming here though. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this cafe. Definitely a great spot to catch up with someone or to get work done. read more

I've been here a dozen times. It's great coffee, but we are continually disappointed by the owner's decisions to stop gluten free bread and the lack of accommodations. Every other coffee shop in the area has gluten free bread for sandwiches, and Brewed Awakenings can't make up their mind whether they want it or not. We go there in March, they have it. In July, they don't. October? Yep it's there. After waiting 20 minutes in line at 3pm, they don't carry gluten free bread anymore. When I ask why, the employee said the owner stopped doing it even though they continually get customers asking for it. It's not rocket science, other places even do the frozen Udi's which is better than nothing. Never trying to get food here again. read more

My family and I were in town for the week and visited this establishment on a few occasions for lunch and coffee. I loved the quaint look and charm of downtown Hingham. One thing I noticed was the inconsistency of the service. If there was a line, you might be waiting a while since when I was there, the cashier also had to make all the coffees. Big slowdown. Other times, you could walk up and be there at the counter for a few minutes before someone came out and greeted you. They offer a large selection of baked goods including, muffins, sliced cakes, pastries, etc. I did take a slice of carrot cake home for dessert and it was ok. It was real cream cheese filling and not cream so already I was a fan of it. They also have a large variety of coffee and tea drinks both hot and cold. For lunch, we had ordered the gobbler, the left coast wrap, and the build your own. The gobbler consisted of roasted turkey, cheese, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. The left coast wrap consisted of turkey, bacon, and cheese. All the sandwiches were fresh and tasty. They came with a bag of chips. We had the iced coffees on a couple of occasions and as a coffee snob, I would say they were excellent. They offered flavored iced coffees that came from the beans and not the sugary pumps. The coffee chains don't offer that. The service was friendly when they finally got to you. The prices were very reasonable. There was ample table seating to sit and enjoy and make yourself at home if you have a computer. On street parking is available or there is a public lot behind it. read more

I have no idea why this restaurant has negative reviews. We ate here during a Hingham walking tour with the Thomas Minor Society. Everything was excellent, from the staff to the food to the desserts. I had the Left Coast sandwich on gluten free bread, with a gluten free donut and an iced tea. Another member of our party had a chicken salad salad and it was piled high with toppings and chicken salad. The cheesecake was four inches high and delicious. Give this place a chance! read more

I've been frequenting this coffee shop for over a year now, drinking their expresso drinks and specially made iced coffee's and never have I had a coffee that tasted other than delicious. They are busy most of the time for a reason. If you haven't tried their coffee, I feel for you, you're missing out on something special. Nice shop. New to Hingham, went on for cup of tea.. good. Ordered lemon scone was awful, dry. Why no biscotti ? The display of baked goods looked good, but so did the scone. I will try it again, but with no biscotti , I doubt it will be a regular stop. Clean, friendly, but at best it was a 2.5 .. do my tea was very good... It's conveniently located in downtown Hingham and the service is pleasant and the variety of items is great. Plus, I love the fact that when you have your latte there you can have it in a ceramic mug. It's the little things. The pastries are okay. The bagels are pretty awful (especially when you have the Atlantic Bagel Company up the road) but the blueberry muffins and scones are decent. I guess what I'm saying is, the food is prettier than it tastes. During the day there are moms and kids all over the place so it is pretty kid-friendly if that's your thing. And if it's not your thing, you may want to avoid this place during weekdays. read more

I've been to many better coffee shops, and certainly some worse. Overall experience was positive, but I was expecting good coffee for a place named "Brewed Awakenings" - should have been "Overbrewed Awakenings". Ordered both the regular and french vanilla coffee, and both were bitter and over brewed. Ordered a couple bagels, which were standard, but the server placed two single-serve containers of Philadelphia Cream Cheese ON TOP of my bagels when serving them (am I supposed to assume those containers were clean? Probably pulled from a dirty bucket in a dirty fridge). I had to cream cheese it myself - with a fork because they were out of spoons. For such a nice presentation of the pastries and food in their display cases, they could have gone a few extra steps of asking if i wanted the cream cheese on the bagel that I ordered "for here", or made sure that napkins, knives, and other necessities were well maintained. They also don't seem to have any order for collection of dirty plates, so when I went to get cream for my coffee, and some napkins and the (non existent) knife for my cream cheese, i had to reach between piles of dirty plates and silverware surrounding the garbage and cluttering the coffee creamer table. I also had to clean the crumbs off my own table, and rearrange chairs so I could sit. If they take a few extra steps to polish these simple issues, I'll come back and update my review. read more

This Cafe is subpar at best. I work in the area so I've come here a good handful of times. My order is almost always wrong, which I laughed off at first, but now I'm just incredulous. It's always things like receiving plain cream cheese instead of chive, getting an oatmeal cookie instead of peanut butter, or ordering a hot tea and getting a hot coffee. I guess at this point I should know to double check what I get, but I'm really not asking for complicated stuff. Not to mention certain employees always seem put out by customers. My bank gave me a coupon to use at Brewed Awakenings so I thought I would treat myself to lunch. When I arrived the girl who waited on me (very sweet) asked her colleague about the coupon. The colleague was a rude and unprofessional kid, maybe 20, who reluctantly went back to her manager to ask. The manager didn't have the decency to even come out and speak with me about why the coupon was no longer valid. At the end of the day, it's not even about the coupon as I work in town and had dined her many times before. While the food looks great, the taste does not really live up to the promise and the pastries tend to be on the sweet side. The coffee is good, but not exceptional. Brewed Awakenings does makes a strong ice coffee and has simple syrup for it, which is a nice touch. The seating area is roomy, and it would accommodate families with strollers if that is something you might be looking for. Overall, you can easily find much tastier eats in the downtown area worthy of your time. read more
