They don't put their lids on tight enough!!! Watch out!!! Just had a tsunami of coffee overtake my cup holder, cars ruined, put it up auction on eBay, now I gotta go to barber school to pay off my new car loan

Brewed Awakenings is a busy place, especially on the weekends. Located in the heart of Hingham center, right next to an excellent ice cream parlor and down the street from the vintage Loring Theater, it's a good place to stop for a drink and a quick bite. I find both to be dependable here. The pastries look absolutely delicious, but they're just not on my current diet :/ There's usually enough seating, but today my companion and I shared a table with another couple--no problem in this friendly little town. I'll definitely be back!

We were wandering around my husband's home town of Hingham and were in need of beverages and a bathroom. We passed Brewed Awakenings and popped inside. It was a fine experience, but nothing remarkable. There's a ton of baked goods and pastries offered here but, having just eaten, we weren't really in the mood for that. My husband was parched so a big bottle of water was called for. I got a very large iced tea. Service was fine, nothing overly friendly or overly unfriendly. Just basic and transactional. Restroom was clean. The dining area is spacious and it holds the benefit of being the one coffee shop that we found right on Main Street so it's convenient in that way, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

    Christmas Eve at Brewed Awakenings.

Only tried their hot drinks as we stopped by Christmas Eve. Very pleasant and efficient service. Drinks were very good. Fairly quiet when we were there; I'm sure we did not see it at it's best, as most people were probably out for Christmas. All of our drinks were well-made and reasonably priced. Pastries looked good in the display cases. Does the job. We will come back for another visit.

Very cute coffee shop in Hingham square. You can get a variety of flavored iced teas which is awesome, most recently a mango iced tea. The coffee is also yummy, tends to be on the dark side. They have a ton of pastries, from breakfast muffins to actual cakes. While I have not tried them, they do offer breakfast sandwiches. There are several tables if you want to sit and eat/sip your beverage. Love it.

    The Leaner

A comfortable dining room is the extent of what's enjoyable at Brewed Awakenings. I ordered The Leaner, a turkey pastrami sandwich "served warm" with melted Swiss and Dijon mustard on toasted sourdough. At least that's how it's billed. What arrived was roast beef - yes, roast beef - on an under-baked French loaf with cold, hard Swiss and plain mustard. I asked if I could get the right protein on my sandwich, to which the teenage staffers replied, "I knew I messed that up. They look alike!" Cool, yo. If your religion forbids the consumption of certain animals, um, lift the lid on your sando. They rectified the situation by simply replacing the beef with pastrami. Same bread and cheese with my initial, confounded bite taken out of it. Aside from that lovely fiasco, the baked goods look freshly unwrapped from a Costco platter. It's got the location and a cozy dining space, however, and I'm sure the coffee drinks are delightful - unfortunately, the menu is an eye chart preventing any understanding of what's in what. Same employee: "Yeah, it's dumb we don't have paper menus. I can read you the descriptions if you want." No, really. I don't want.

I moved to the area during COVID, and it can be tough working remotely. I was so glad to find a place I could work at while also being safe. I see them wiping down tables during the day and following safety protocols. The staff is friendly and welcoming and I LOVE the pumpkin mousse squares

We started with the house-baked bread sampler that was served with honey butter and a delicious "nest" of hummus and an appetizer of honey roasted carrots on a bed of farro. We then shared the Salmon Poke Bowl that was so fresh and flavorful and a spring pasta dish of lemon cream, fresh tomatoes, arugula with lots of cheese. There were so many items on the menu we'd like to try but their baker makes such incredible bread that we ordered another plate! Cheers to chef/owner Tina Conte and her team. Also, the view from the dining room looking out at the golf course is really pretty, even on a rainy day and the decor of the restaurant is comfortable and inviting for spending a slow lunch enjoying great food.

We were seated within a few minutes of arriving, which was nice. Our server was great - greeted us right away and went through the specials for the evening. We started with drinks - my cosmo was delicious (nice that it comes in the shaker and she poured it at the table), and bread. The corned bread was ok - it came with plenty of butter. On to the entrees - I had the chicken picatta, which was good, and came with a generous portion of linguini. My friend had the steak tips (on the specials menu) which came with broccolini and mashed potatoes. Trivia was a lot of fun - more old school style of writing answers and point wagers on paper for each round, and bringing it up to the quiz master. We will definitely be back for trivia, and dinner, again soon!

They also offer many different choices of cream cheese: plain, lox, walnut raisin, sun-dried, tomato, and more. My favorite bagel fix is the marble bagel, double toasted with extra olive cream cheese - spectacular! I highly recommend that you try this place if you love bagels and cream cheese. There were a number of other things I wanted to try in the pastry display, as well as a wide variety of sandwiches (including a beef tenderloin and a pork), but admittedly, after splitting a muffin, I was kind of tapped out. Weak. The bakery is located right by the beach so perfect for grabbing a sandwich and taking it to go. We had to wait a bit to get our muffin but to be expected for late weekend mornings. Bring cash to avoid a surcharge for CC transactions. There's a parking lot behind the bakery but just a warning that there are signs plastered everywhere that you should only park there if you're a customer and it's NOT for general beach parking. My husband and I and two relatives met for breakfast here this morning. When we arrived this small place was busy and there was only one seating area available for the 4 of us. It happened to be near to the music speakers which isn't ever a great option but although the music was a bit loud it was otherwise "soft rock". Since we had no other seating choice, we had to take those seats. Two of us ordered coffee (okay) and blueberry muffins (okay.) My husband ordered a coffee (okay) and a pastry. The 4th person ordered a cold brew coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Upon breaking into his pastry (I forget exactly what it was) my husband found a long dark hair that was baked into it. Yuck. He went back to the counter to return it. My husband said the young woman (long dark hair) behind the counter was nonplussed, did not apologize, was not at all contrite, showed none of the kindness an establishment worker should show when confronted with a situation like this. Then, somewhat begrudgingly my husband said, she gave him a fresh pastry. Thank God the disgusting hair was literally baked into the pastry or she might have blamed one of us for placing it there. Her attitude with my husband made him think she suspected "foul play" which is why he thought to point out that half the hair was hanging out of the pastry and the rest of it was baked in. (Sorry, this is disgusting I know) That was bad customer service attitude #1. As we continued to eat and chat, the once mellow music coming out of the nearby speakers turned into a grating hard rock song. Awful. We couldn't hear ourselves talk. Bad customer service attitude #2 was about to happen and the last straw. Nicely, one of us asked the same gal at the counter if she could turn the music down. The young woman at the counter said: "I'll see if I can." Really!?!?!? She disappeared into the back and almost immediately out stormed a man with an apron on who began by scolding us!!! He said: "You wouldn't be bothered by the music if you weren't sitting where you are near the speakers." Wow!!! Although dumbfounded by his unfriendly attitude and overt aggression, one of us explained to him that we were sitting where we were as it was the only option when we arrived. Without missing a beat he "mansplained" that he would NOT turn the music down as it was for ALL the patrons to enjoy. The irony of this is that the initial crowds had dispersed at this point and besides the 4 of us, there were now only two older gentlemen in the place who I am going to hazard a wild guess were likely not enjoying the particular music that was playing then either. Instead, we simply opted to pick up our food, coffee cups, jackets, two handbags and we switched tables. It was a hassle to do so quite frankly. We were offered no assistance as we struggled with our food, cups and belongings. If it had been just my husband and me we would have left everything on the table, picked up our stuff and walked out the door. Nothing was that great that I would have minded walking away from it all. Super bad vibes here! I have never once been in an establishment where on the very, very rare occasion I have asked to have music turned down that it wasn't turned down. We weren't going to be there for very long; they could blast their hard rock again once we left. This is a food establishment not a disco nor a music venue. I believe the owners must hope that people will sit, enjoy some food and coffee and a chat or maybe if one is solo, read a book. Nope! Apparently you must enjoy the music too no matter how grating or how loud or what the staff mandates that you must listen to. On another note if you still decide to come to this miserable place, be warned that they will charge you 3.99% (please...call it 4%) more to use a credit card. There are so many other places to go on the south shore for breakfast where peace and pleasantness reign supreme. This is a hard pass imo. Pity all this because the two relatives we were with had previously enjoyed this place which is why the four of us were there to begin with. But now the owner has lost 4 local customers and anyone else I can convince in my personal orbit to go elsewhere. Rude customer service is not a forgivable offense in my book. Even if the end result was not to turn the music down, the reaction to our request could have been done in a much kinder manner. "Can I help you move to another table?" is a thought. Owner, if that's who you were in the green apron with no beard nor hair net: You clearly don't deserve nor do you apparently need, (based on your attitude "sir"), our money or our patronage. I'll wait for an angry owner response to this review. I'll take an educated guess based on his reaction to us that impulse control may not be his strong suit. Yawn.
