Good coffee, one of the worse customer service there is for a coffee shop, workers are indifferent and completely rude

This review is about an experience I had about a year ago, which was also the last time I visited this cafe. With finals season coming around again, I was reminded of this place and my experience trying to study there. I normally don't leave negative reviews, but I felt it was worth sharing what happened. I purchased a drink and sat at an open table to study. About 20 minutes later, a man dressed in casual clothing approached me and told me he needed my table for an upcoming trivia event. When I asked who he was, he identified himself as the manager's son. What confused me was that there were other customers throughout the cafe studying and working at tables, yet I was the only person asked to move. The trivia event wasn't scheduled to start for another 30 minutes, and no alternative seating was offered despite the cafe being full. I wasn't upset that space was needed for an event, but I was disappointed by how the situation was handled. A simple explanation, advance notice, or effort to help me find another place to sit would have made a big difference. Instead, I packed up my things and left. As a paying customer who came specifically to study, I felt unwelcome and decided not to return. I hope management takes a more considerate approach to customer communication in the future. read more

4.5 stars yeah right! This coffee is worse than Dunkin' Donuts. Watered down coffee with too much milk. I had a cold brew but it tasted like cold shoe.....I'll pass on this next time. On my way back to Starbucks! Cute place but poor coffee read more

This place is cute! Homely and a bit old fashioned? I'm getting 90's central perk vibes. Definitely a local favorite. I love how BIG their menu is, and their variety of food options - breakfast AND lunch. The service was super friendly even with a long line. They have a self service drip coffee for around $2.50 if you have the cash, which I thought was so fun! I did try to get chicken on my salad and somehow it didn't make it onto my receipt so I didn't say anything but if you are ordering a lot with a group just double check before paying for make sure it's all there. I was feeling sugary so I got a pumpkin spice blended drink, it was very sweet, and hit the spot on a summer day. Nothing crazy. Will definitely have to try the actual espresso next time though. read more

This coffee shop is my new favorite! I've been here a couple of times meeting up with a friend to work and it's always been so good! I really liked their smoked salmon bagel and their vanilla lattes. My friend and I decided to share a chocolate chip muffin and wow! Her and I both agreed it's probably the best chocolate chip muffin we've ever had! It's a popular spot to work or study but there are plenty of tables and outlets to charge. read more

I love the coffee, chai and matcha from this place. Breakfast are awesome and the atmosphere is excellent. I recommend this place.

We come here all the time because we don't live far. I've been living in La Mesa now for 2 years and we always come here for breakfast after a workout. The grilled cheese to dip in the tomato soup is my favorite. Early mornings are quieter, but when it's the weekend and it's late morning, there are a bunch of people coming in; especially one Saturday a month for the little market they have right outside in the parking lot. Great place to people watch and have a wholesome cup of coffee for sure. Never had an issue with service--food and drink comes out fast as well. read more

I visited Brew Coffee Spot for the first time to meet a friend, and I immediately understood the hype--regulars were already lined up at the door when they opened! The place has a cozy, comfortable vibe, and the staff? Super friendly and helpful, with smiles all around. Their menu looks fantastic, but we kept it simple with drip coffee, which was excellent. The refill situation was disappointing. You're supposed to drop a dollar in the box--who carries singles, let alone cash, these days?? Definitely a place I'd visit again. The first time I came to Brew was with a friend about a year and a half ago. She's suggested it when we were going to get together after I'd been out of town for a long time. I'm not usually a coffee shop kind of person but I splurged and got a lavender coffee and lox and bagel sandwich. Both were delicious of course. Fast forward a year and a half later and I found out they have a little market out in the parking lot once or twice a month on a Saturday that includes a booth that sells Filipino food. We started coming here for all of those in May and then we go inside and get a coffee while we eat our food. You're not supposed to take outside food and drink in but I guess there's an agreement between the coffee shop and the Filipino food guy that he lets people come in but we always buy a coffee also. Their coffee is excellent! So if you see some Filipino food in some of the pictures, they don't sell it at Brew. A couple weeks ago my oldest daughter was in town and I suggested we come here for coffee and breakfast. We got a cinnamon roll and a breakfast sandwich and split both of them and it was perfect for us. Again the food and drink were both wonderful. The clerks are friendly and the place is immaculately clean. Highly recommended! read more

My new weekend coffee spot! I'm always on the hunt for great coffee. I also realized that we like what we like, and the beans make all the difference. BC roasts their beans and, to my taste, are delicious. We also got a proper espresso macchiato, and they made it correctly. For my daughter, a Vietnamese coffee, which I tasted, and it was perfect. The food is delicious. We tried the salmon bagel and flatbread. Both were delicious, and the flatbreativjt edged out today because it had nice crispy edges. The location is an older, smaller shopping center, which I like, and I like that they have outdoor seating for the dogs--nothing like a great sunny spot on a Saturday. We also just found out they have music sometimes Sat @ 3:00, and how fantastic to sit and listen to a bit of jazz. I'll take Inside photos next because it's excellent, and has great photography hanging. Lastly, we've been here twice and everyone working here is really nice. read more

Was in the area looking for a matcha latte and heard good things about the one here. I got a peppermint matcha latte with oat milk and it was delicious! So creamy and you can actually taste the matcha. Just a note, it is on the sweeter side but I like my matcha lattes sweet so it was perfect for me. I ordered for pick up on a Sunday afternoon and it came out quick. Service was great and the ambiance was so cozy. Will definitely have to come back and try their other food and drinks. read more

My daughter and I love to go to coffee shops. She always gets a bagel breakfast sandwich and I always get an oat milk latte. Sometimes I add a chocolate chip cookie or a muffin. Today we wanted to go to a coffee shop near Trader Joe's so we found this little spot. It was really cute. They had such an extensive menu it was really impressive. I wanted to try the Tumeric Latte but opted to not be adventurous. We enjoyed our food. My Oat Milk Latte was amazing! One of the best I have had. My daughter loved her bagel. The only sad thing that happened is I left my beloved San Francisco 49er hat there and it was gone when I went back for it. Oh well...I guess I am happy that there are Niner Faithfuls in La Mesa! Wow, this place is busy on a Saturday morning! I noticed they had a pistachio latte on the menu and decided to give it a try -- it had just the right amount of sweetness with a perfect balance between the coffee and syrup. The line moved fast and the wait wasn't too bad even though there wasn't a single poke spot to sit inside. This seems like a great place to study or relax to enjoy your morning coffee. They do have a good selection for food including breakfast sandwiches and pastries. read more

I love seasonal items so I got their pumpkin cinnamon roll and pumpkin scone to go. Both were good and not overly sweet. Had a cup of coffee and the vegan chai scone. Coffee was good but wish they had free (or less expensive refills). The team member was great was helping me choose between the pumpkin or chai scone and she helped me choose based on her preference. It was a great choice and delicious! It is very nice to find an independent coffee shop with a large, inviting interior and excellent service. One of my sisters lives nearby, and we went to power up for a trip to La Jolla. Along the way, she mentioned their lavender matcha latte, so I had a plan before walking in. Mine was customized with oat milk and hot while she got an iced version with regular milk. My other sister tried a gluten-free muffin and really enjoyed it. Basically, it took the edge off her changing time zones and flying until we scored lunch. All-in-all, if I lived nearby, I'd totally hang out in the pleasant atmosphere to read and write. However, on my next trip to visit the family, I'll swing through for sure. read more

I was so disappointed in this coffee shop. The place has a great selection of items coffee and food items. I ordered a affogato coffee and a brownie. For $6.00 an espresso shot and vanilla gelato it was garbage and the brownie was stale as hell. The coffee was not anywhere near good. Will not go back. read more

Burritos are a little pricey but well worth it. The ingredients are quality and if you dine in, they serve it on a plate with chips. Vanilla latte also delicious. Atmosphere is great, staff is super friendly and welcoming. Definitely found my new go to coffee shop! read more

My friends and I are visiting in the area looking for morning coffee/matcha to start our weekend. We decided to try here since it was rated 4.5 stars and the reviews looked promising. At first glance the menu looks great and had a wide variety of options for us to choose. We ordered a total of 6 different drinks (2 matchas and 4 different coffees) and all are were fairly disappointing. The vegan matcha option wasn't sweetened, which is exactly what I was looking for, but it was a very light green color and the flavor had a strange after taste. As for the coffee, one order was the Vietnamese coffee and we couldn't tell which coffee was which, they all tasted similar. We were probably better off just going to Starbucks but when you're on vacation, you'd really like to just try a nice local shop. read more

We were destined to come here! I love coffee and enjoy trying out new things instead of the typical . The menu options for beverages from coffees to teas is so big it's hard to pick one. The barista suggested I get the Viennese and OMG! It was so delicious. Each sip got me closer to heaven. I paired it with an açaí bowl that was equally delicious and very filling. The cafe is actually very spacious, with a stage, I though... karaoke? WRONG! We got a comedy show! Super awesome! It was great time with lots of giggles and hilarious dad jokes. I loved it. One thing that is definitely to appreciate is that they use real dishes for your food so way less waste going into the environment. They also have organic options which is definitely a plus! As well as dairy free options for your drinks. Totally recommend, even if you don't get a show, it's totally worth coming here, the ambiance is pretty good and the baristas are very nice too! Also, it's not in the heart of La Mesa which makes it better in the sense that there's plenty of parking available making it more accessible as well. I give this an A+ read more

I've been a patron at Brew Coffee Spot for a few years and continue to come back for the many perks of the café. The menu is seasonal and changes every few months. Brew Coffee Spot offers a full coffee bar with a variety of alternative milks for my lactose intolerant girlies, bakery items and light breakfast options, coffee beans, and BCS merchandise. The service is pretty fast and has the option of ordering online through the clover app which is awesome when you're on the go and plan ahead. If you're looking to hang in the café I highly recommend playing one of their board games with some friends but they also have a lot of indoor seating with outlets and outdoor patio seating which is dog-friendly. read more

The coffee, service, and ambiance were all on point during my visit to Brew today. I love visiting lounge-y coffee shops and this one has a great vibe. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Seems great for meeting up with friends and/or studying. Everything felt clean, artsy, and built with the customer in mind. I ordered the Viennese latte. It seemed that someone took my coffee from the pickup bar by mistake as I was standing there for a bit waiting for my drink. The cashier that took my order saw me waiting and quickly had the coffee bar remake my drink -- all before I asked! They even remembered my name for my order! What a great experience here. For the first time here I ordered a breakfast sandwich. Barely any cheese and only one egg. There were no condiments on it so it was dry dry dry. I could barely choke it down. It also cost almost $10! Nope. Never again. When I asked for condiments, the woman making the coffee said they had none because the owners don't like condiments. WTH? The only thing they offered was Tapatio and Cholula. Not ordering food here ever again and may not come back, I'm so bothered. That's just weird and holy crap, expensive! What a rip off! Love the cozy environment and the delicious desserts--especially the pumpkin scone, it's a must-try. The only downside is that the last couple of times my iced coffee has come out a bit too milky and lacking flavor. Could be just bad luck, and I'm not the type to ask for a remake.
