She had five years with VEPTR rods, three years with MAGEC rods, and just had her final spinal fusion. Her previous treatments resulted in a lot of spontaneous fusion in her spine and ribs that made the final surgery a big challenge, but Dr. Ross did an amazing job of balancing correction and safety. Dr. Ross was able to achieve more correction than any of us expected or hoped for. Along the way, she genuinely listened to our daughter, answered her questions, and respected and addressed her concerns and fears. We will always be grateful for how much she improved our daughter's quality of life. We have also had a fantastic experience with all of the physical therapists she has encountered. Dr. Julia Morgan in particular has a gentle but encouraging attitude that helps my daughter push through challenges and grow with each session.

When we arrived I had to fill out papers with all the same information, again. There are a lot of cubicles in the administrative area. They also talk a lot about billing and fees. It suggested that the whole thing is a racket. After waiting an hour for our scheduled appointment in the waiting room, we left before being called back. I don't know how many visits they're going to want us to make for this, but if visits require a one hour wait at minimum, there are other places we can go.

I asked to fill out the paperwork then and there, and they gave it to me. When I turned it in, they said someone would review it and call me to make an appointment. Did they? You guessed it. No call. So why would a doctor claim to be taking new patients when he really isn't? Is it some quirky insurance thing? I just don't get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ P.S. As others here have noted, one never feels that he's in a rush to wrap up his time with you and move on. He takes time to engage in a conversation with you, to listen to your concerns and questions, and to address them thoroughly. For me, good communication is the most important quality I look for in a primary care doctor, aside from a basic confidence in his/her competence. Dr. Killian has helped me better understand my various medical issues and articulates his treatment goals and methodologies in an exceptionally thorough and understandable manner. I have a fantastic cardiologist who is also an excellent communicator, but I have often found myself with Dr. Killian explaining and helping me understand my heart issues more completely than I would listening to my cardiologist alone. He is thorough in integrating test results and other information from the cardiologist (and other specialists) into my patient records to maintain a complete understanding of all my ongoing medical issues. I could scarcely ask for more than that. His group practice, Red River Family Practice, is well-run, and I have encountered very few of the office/administrative frustrations I have at similar group practice offices. Reading some other less-than-positive reviews here, I'm reminded that no single physician is likely to be the right fit for every patient, each with their unique concerns and expectations. That said, Dr. Killian is a perfect fit for my priorities and expectations, and his competence and professionalism provide a rock-solid foundation to support those preferences. There is no traffic like in Austin. The staff are also amazing. The receptionist when you first check in always has a smile and makes you feel a little better. The PA's and NP's are also very attentive and friendly. The check out is always fast and easy and they are smiling as well. If you want a good pain doctor this is the place to go.

Professional Medical Care Spoiled by Awful Administrative Practices!…read moreThe administrative staff changed my assigned doctor after my PCP submitted the referral, creating a two-week delay. When I called to clear up their mistake, the scheduling clerk became belligerent and blamed me for the error. I asked for a supervisor and was left on hold(10 minutes) until exactly 5:00 PM. when someone picked up the line just to hang up on me, with absolutely no call back. Note: A bright spot occurred the next day when a competent staff member called back, fixed the error, and confirmed my appointment time. The clinical side was fine. I arrived 10 minutes early as requested, completed my paperwork, and met with the physician. We successfully agreed on a treatment plan, including medications and an injection surgery. After scheduling my surgery and follow-up, the office staff THEN informed me of a $75 cash deposit or credit card hold, solely to secure the appointment against a possible future cancellation. This predatory pricing practice forces patients to take ALL the financial risk for scheduling. But does nothing about the double or triple booking practices that keep us waiting 15- 30 60 minutes past our scheduled time. They penalize patients upfront, yet offer no compensation for their own scheduling errors, long wait times, or hanging up on clients. While I cannot directly admonish the doctor(he jsut works there) and he seemed to be competent, the administrative hostility, lack of professionalism, and predatory upfront credit card holds make this practice impossible to recommend. Proceed with caution or better yet just keep driving.

I originally went to the Cardiologist because my doctor found that I had high blood pressure in August of 2023. The Cardiologist Dr. Otero put me on blood pressure pills. I took the pills for a few months and stopped. In March 2024 I ended up in the hospital with extreme dizziness and got physically sick when I moved. I went through a plethora of tests and the emergency room doctor said I had possibly had a small heart attack and/or Stroke, the hospital said I had to see a heart surgeon immediately and set an appointment. When I spoke with Dr Otero he said to cancel the appointment with the surgeon and that he needed to do more tests to verify my condition before I see a surgeon. Then I was run through every singe one of the same tests that were performed when I was in the hospital costing me for out of pocket expense again. Then an angiogram was scheduled for the first week of June 2024. The results were not good, Bicuspid valve that needed to be replaced, a 70% blockage that required a double bypass and a aortic aneurysm which could burst at any moment, (same thing killed my grandfather). I was told that a surgeon would call me the next week to schedule an appointment. Well, the next week came and went and no call...then the second week went by and no call. So, I called Dr Otero's office and left a message with his assistant Andrenika Ellison that I had not heard from the surgeon. I never heard back from Cardio Texas, and this was three weeks after my diagnosis. I waited until the next week, called again, no answer, left a message and never heard back. I had other family members who also used Cardio Texas but other Doctors in the practice call to try to get a response, and STILL NO CALL BACK! Remember, I have an aneurysm that could rupture an any moment and I would die on the spot. This went on for THREE months, I called every week, without an answer or a returned call. Finally at the end of August a surgeon's office called. I scheduled an appointment and the first thing the surgeon said to me was " I'm very concerned that you were diagnosed with this condition and your cardiologist took three months to get you to a surgeon?" Then he said, my diagnosed blockage was not 70%, it was 85% blockage and I didn't need a double bypass, I needed a triple bypass and could I be ready tomorrow for surgery? Then the surgeon said, I could be almost recovered by that point if they would have sent you back in June. BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE, THEY ARE JUST LOOKING TO GET THAT COMMISSION FROM BIG PHARMA. Then, when I went to Cardiac recovery CARE with a physical therapist to help with my physical recovery. I was supposed to go to for several weeks but I ran into an issue the first day with my heart rate shooting up to 130 bpm. The therapist made me stop and instantly called to speak with Dr Otero and didn't get a answer. I was told to go home because we could not do any more exercises until he spoke with the Dr. Well, needless to say after making several calls and leaving messages the therapist never heard back from Dr. Otero or his office staff and would not see me without their call back. I'm going to have to say this is pretty sad for the type of doctors that are in this office...you know...HEART DOCTORS...or are they Grim Reapers!

I really like Dr. Crear and some of the PAs so it's a shame that the messaging service is not held to a high standard. Honestly, it's like talking to a child...but one who clearly uses AI to polish their grammar. The level of incompetence - with incorrect prescriptions called in and incorrect information relayed - is concerning. I hope they don't have these medical assistants completing tasks that require common sense, like relaying important test results. I know practices are trying to increase profits, especially those practices that are owned by private equity (which this place may be--IDK). But please consider your patients. Don't run a competent practice into the ground by having these assistants do what medical professionals should be doing. Employ some actual nurses to answer patient questions for god's sake, not just "medical assistants."
