First time trying and can say I will definitely be coming back! This place has a huge deli with amazing snack and drink options perfect for having a beach day or picnic somewhere. Sandwiches and salads are always very good. Service is great and a really good location. One input that I have and highly recommend. When you make the Italian hero, the #1. Slice the bread without going all the way through and place the meats and cheese inside leaving a cup for the lettuce and tomato. I was so wanting this place to be better than it was. Everything on the chalkboard on the wall looks amazing - lots of great sounding choices. The food under glass you are looking at is very enticing as well. The crumb cake had the right ratio of cake to sugar (1:1 x see photo) and the glazed blueberry muffin must have weighed 2 lbs. my mouth was watering all the way home. None of it lived up to expectations. Had a #22 wrap (some kind of chicken or turkey with an avocado thing going on) and a number 8 sandwich (kind of the same as he #22 but with a sun dried tomato Mayo). Both were pretty tasteless and the bread was far from fresh. The mac & cheese was unobjectionable but nothing to write home about. The crumb cake was pretty dry. Went to a graduation party last night and Brennan's catered the food! Wow delicious! I've been to two other celebrities which they catered! The food was fresh and delicious! But I want to give credit to the servers from Brennan's; I was on crutches and the waitresses brought me food and checked on me every 15 minutes to make sure I had food! Stopped in here after being recommended by a co-worker. Got the #4 and the #2. Both sandwiches were pretty good size for the price and they were pretty good. Also got a few of their homemade cookies and those were amazing. Will definitely come back and try some different sandwiches, I got pretty basic ones and the whole menu looked delicious. read more

Came here on July 5th to enjoy Victory Park (Rumson) down the block. Several of us did not bring a lunch but the weather was beautiful so we stayed longer. We called Brennan's and they said they were closing at 2PM (holiday weekend). So several of us walked over and ordered sandwiches to go. The place was packed!! Since they were closing soon and after the holiday weekend, they ran out of sub bread. Friends ordered #11, #13, #15, and #17. I was the last to order as they ran out of sub bread; 1ciabatta roll was left or I could have it on a flour tortilla. I ordered sandwich #11 (chicken cutlet, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo) on the last ciabatta bread. They didn't charge me extra for the ciabatta bread since they ran out of sub bread. The sandwich was delicious!! If you are ever near Victory Park, this is the deli to get your sandwiches! read more

We stopped going to Brennan's 5 years ago, the quality had definitely gone down. We thought we'd try again to support our local restaurants. There are so many high quality restaurants to support. Very few tables so be prepared to either go elsewhere with your food and beverage or wait until there is an opening. The food is prepared daily and very fresh. My only complaint are their muffins which I found to be dry. I was impressed they still had the pumpkin coffee. A must try if you never had one. I normally do not like flavored coffee but my girlfriend who met me for lunch ordered me one once before and I got hooked. Darn you, R! You know who you are, lady R! lol. I ordered the Southwestern grilled chicken with monterey jack cheese, black bean and corn salsa, lettuce, tomato in a spinach wrap. The chicken could have been more moist but hey, it's white meat and I'm a dark meat lover. ;) My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she had #25 which entailed marinated portablello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes on an herb bun. You should seen all the juices that came out of it. While half of mine can be wrapped for later, she could not wrap hers up for later because it would have gotten hella soggy. It's a very nice place for breakfast and lunch but I would not say, its a must place to go if you're in town. New interior was a surprise, but I was really shocked at limited ADA access. Good luck opening front entry in a wheel chair without pivoting down the brick stairs. Maneuvering inside the deli is very limited too. There's limited flow and waiting for orders is too slow. You need to call out ready orders on a speaker, so customers don't strain to get to hear ready orders. There were many workers, but production output was a fail. This review covers ONLY their pork roll, egg and cheese on a hardroll, breakfast sandwich. Saw it being made for Christine Sloan on the FIOS 1 TV show Restaurant Hunters. On that show the Deli's host hand cut 3 generous slices of pork roll, cracked open 2 eggs, melted slices of yellow American cheese between them and placed it on a great looking roll. I specified a hard roll, which was fresh. The pork roll wasn't close to the TV presentation it was very thin. Cheese was average and not dripping from the sandwich, like on the show, and the eggs were fine. It is an average PE&C. If FIOS 1 reruns the episode ... beware. The FREE one, hand prepared for Ms. Sloan, is not the same as the one you will PAY for. read more

I stopped here on my way to the beach for subs expecting a great sandwich to enjoy. What I got was whole bunch of aggravation, anxiety and cheated. I ordered 3 subs, one of which was a #2 with ham instead of pepperoni, I take all three to the register and ask the cashier why one says +$1.75? She goes to ask behind the deli, comes back telling me they added ham. Even the lady behind said, "I heard you order, you didn't want the pepperoni." So, the cashier is trying to tell me it's because they added the extra meat there's a charge when I only wanted to switch out meats. She goes as far to tell me "feel the weight, it's heavier". It does me no good to pay extra when I will throw away the pepperoni, thank you anyway though. So I go to the deli and speak to a man who seems to be in charge. He comes up with ham is more expensive. Ok? I've never heard this before, mind you, I've had subs North to South in NJ. If that's not good enough, he now tells me it's what the owner says to do when you switch out meat. He's going by what the owner says. So I ask to have the #1 instead to avoid all this headache about not wanting pepperoni. I pick up my sandwich and notice, "it's REALLY lightweight". I look inside and there's barely any ham inside. I call my friend from the car in to order the exact same sandwich. (She has no clue what's happening). Low and behold, her sub had more meat in it then the one I just ordered and paid for!! I was livid at this point. Fool me once, NOT TWICE! This is brought to the same cashier's attention and she is completely embarrassed. Headed behind the deli counter, yet again, to get answers, in which she could not get. Really sad that this "quality" deli in an upscale neighborhood really thought that taking advantage of customers is the right thing to do. I believe in honesty and integrity and live the same. I may've gotten upset while there, but I truly don't like being made a fool of or taken advantage of. read more

We ordered a smoked salmon platter to bring to a gathering to have with bagels on Good Friday. The order was prepared completely wrong. Brennan's prepared a platter of hors d'oeuvres. Not what we ordered and not what we wanted. The party was in 15 minutes, there was no time to correct the order and the staff could care less. read more

It's the best sandwich from Rumson to Red Bank. I've been going there for 18 years. Plenty of meat on their sandwiches and excellent bread, especially on their subs. This place is super busy at lunchtime and they get you in and out quickly especially if you call ahead. Great friendly staff. Wide variety of coffee and I believe they have pumpkin spice all year round. I hate pumpkin spice but you may be into it and crave it in July. It's a sandwich shop, there's hardly any seating. Get in your car and drive down to Victory Park and sit by the river. If you see me there, don't bother me when I'm eating. read more

If I could only eat at one place for the rest of my life, I think it would be Brennan's. No, really. I actually thought this over while waiting in line for my sandwich today. First of all- the sandwiches. They are amazing. You have 26 options to choose from and no matter what you choose I doubt you will be disappointed. My very favorite is the #26 (chicken, corn and black bean salsa, monterey jack, lettuce, cilantro lime dressing) but like I said, you can't really go wrong. I don't normally like roast beef but I even enjoy the roast beef sandwiches here (try the #14!). If you are a vegetarian they have a couple options as well. There are also premade salads that look pretty delicious but I usually go for a sandwich. Secondly- the sides. They've got classics like chicken salad, potato salad, egg salad, etc. plus more unique items like seaweed salad. There's also about 20 different varieties of chips available, as well as a plethora of baked goods and desserts. Finally- the drinks. They don't just have coffee, they have about 15 different kinds of coffee (plus iced coffees and teas). They don't just have soda, they have 4 coolers worth of soft drinks. And yes, they have alcohol (to go, not on tap)! They have a fairly decent selection of beer, including some local-ish breweries like Flying Fish, as well as wine. This may very well be the BEST DELI ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. When I first moved to The Shore from Long Island - land of the deli's - it took FOREVER to find a decent place. But man, the wait was worth it. Beyond their standard menu of inventive sandwiches, and their assortment of deli salads, Brennan's offers the most amazing dinner options. From filet mignon, to summer shrimp salad, seared ahi and pork chops, to healthy sides like orzo, grilled asparagus, and comfort food like panko topped macaroni and cheese. The list is endless. But it's not just about the choices, and don't forget the wine selection and interesting desserts and pastries, it's all about the quality of food. This is the freshest food I've ever had! Truly, both food I have taken home and prepared and food they have prepared for me tastes fresher than any food I have purchased in the supermarket. I don't know what their secret is to freshness but they have it locked down. Perhaps because the place is always packed they are prepping fresh foods each day. Because it is always so busy I call my order in ahead of time - yes, Brennan's is programmed into my cell. They know me by name and have my order ready for me when I arrive. If you're interested in taking your time though... you can, as they do have a few tables for eating in. a nice little sandwich gem. there are only two places i go for sandwiches that i have deemed the best. there's brennan's and tuscany in marlboro that has the best italian sub i have ever had, but that may be because i have never tried one from brennan's. in any case, i wish brennan's was closer to me. their flavors, combinations and freshness are everything i want. i try to justify venturing 25 minutes away for a sandwich. as another reviewer has also said, #26 on a wrap is the usual and it is always amazing. grilled chicken with monterey jack cheese, black bean and corn salsa with lime cilantro dressing. you have your choice of bread, of course. and it must be said -i HATE wraps. but this one just works. bread would get in the way of these wonderful flavors. this one is heavily recommended. they have various pastries and chips to accompany your sandwich or wrap with a nice selection of drinks. and i did hear they make their own honey mustard. they have prepared cold salads that look tasty and hope to eventually try them as well as a few prepared entrees (chicken, salmon, etc.). I love this place! It's always busy because they have the best sandwiches around, and I would've given them 5 stars if they hadn't disappointed me with one sandwich. On one of my "pregnancy craving" days I was really dying for a Roast beef sloppy joe. Simple enough right...it's a deli, how can they not be able to make it. They had roast beef, eye bread, coleslaw, Russian dressing and Swiss cheese. Well if you know the deli you know that they only have a lot of young kids working there so when I said can you make a "roast beef sloppy joe" he must've thought about a "manwich" sloppy joe and his response was "uh we don't have sloppy joes today...in fact we never make them" lol. How can you never make a popular deli sandwich when you have all the ingredients?? Oh well. While I was on the "2012 WINTER PAINTING TOUR, RUMSON NEW JERSEY" I frequented Brennan's several times for a wonderful lunch. It was a bustling little joint with many great food items. Not only were the sandwiches terrific, with a vast selection of the usual and unusual chips... but there was also a tempting array of outstanding dessert items. Temptation not resisted. Just an outstanding local deli which had a real neat 'hometown" feeling to it... though I came from 2966 MILES AWAY!!! Very high quality, equally reasonable pricing...
