Old school and sometimes not in a good way....but their Spring Lake sandwich is my favorite sandwich in the continental United States. There's a better sandwich, but it's at a Vietnamese bahn mi place in Honolulu. Service ranges from infuriating to congenial and warm (randomly). Regulars get better service (I've been in the area for 13 years and they've started to warm up). There's no website, but you can call to order ahead and they get it right. The sloppy Joe's sandwich I had was indeed sloppy and amazing. Alittle too much slaw for me but that's all cool. Going to try there homemade cannolis right now, but I love the old-school ambience of the place and the local neighborhood feeling when you walk in that is very welcoming. read more

Being inside Joe's Deli, I feel like there's a hundred of them in Manhattan that people patronize with more loyalty than a house of worship. Fortunately, we've got one in the cozy confines of Spring Lake, NJ. I love it here. It's a genuine Italian deli, with tons of imported Italian products from sweets and savories to the recipes they serve. The meats are Boar's Head, so you know a good sandwich is happening if you're in the mood for cold cuts. The bread is ridiculously fresh, too. Give the meatball sub a try, the meatballs have cheese inside them, too. Wonderful. I often just buy the meatballs for dinner. I have to say my favorite thing about this place other than the ambience, is the New Jersey classic pork roll, egg, and cheese. Fresh hard roll, two fried eggs, two slices of pork roll, and two slices of American cheese plus salt, pepper, ketchup. Throw in a cup of the drip pot "cawfee", and it makes for a happy morning. It's easy to walk past this place, but they've got music playing outside much of the time featuring some classic opera or the Rat Pack. You could be from New York or New Jersey and really feel at home here, no matter what. They even make a decent cheesesteak, too, if you're in from South Jersey or Philly. A lot of customers are on a first name basis with the staff here and it's easy to see why. Joe's is a staple of the community and should be a regular stop for any local or a must stop by for anyone in the area. What else can I say but drop the classic line, Eat At Joe's. Perhaps it's 'controversial' in this area to say this, but Joe's is the best deli around here. Lived with the in-laws in sea Girt for about a month during Covid, and came here multiple times a week. It's truly perfection as far as deli food goes. It's hard for me to pick, but my top two sandwiches are the awesome Dawson (Cutlet, cheese bacon and honey mustard) or the italian sun. Every time I have placed an order over the phone and in person they are extremely rude. I don't understand how they treat people this way and still have customers? We are locals - not tourists and they are consistently still rude to us. I tell people not to go here because of their attitudes. There's no reason to act the way that they do. It is painful to give this deli one star after years of grabbing sandwiches before the beach without any disappointments, however their response to COVID was horrifying I left the sandwiches on the counter and walked out. The employees were not wearing masks, including the owner who was at the cash register, licking his fingers to separate the brown bags. The woman helping me find my order I pre-called in was very nice, but not wearing a mask. And employees making sandwiches - only a few had masks on. As a health care employee, I try too hard at work daily to avoid getting sick to risk it over a sandwich. When I confronted the owner, he told me the employees are six feet from the customers so it's okay. There is a mandate by Governor Murphy for mask wearing in indoor public spaces, even if distanced. Just finished a delicious New Jersey sub from Joes. We had both turkey and Italian subs. The bread was excellent and they were loaded with high quality meats, shredded lettuce, paper thin onions and tomatoes. I would have loved a little more vinegar, but now I'm just being nitpicky. The shop had everything from chips to homemade Italian tomato sauces to cookies and is right across from the train station. In a world where everything is a chain, I would definitely choose Joes for the good sandwiches, service and to support the local business. read more

This place is terrible. They microwave everything hot. You want cheese on your meatballs? Coming right up "beep beep" goes the microwave. One guy was slicing deli meat making sandwiches and three on the sandwich one in his mouth. We were there for 15min and he did it to every sandwich. Not just him, another employee was doing the same. There was a woman scooping food with a large spoon and using her hand to scoop more food onto the spoon. No one is using gloves, place is a hygiene nightmare. You are playing Russian roulette with food poisoning here. Also is just plain disgusting. The guy who took my order was a space cadet. He didn't write anything down and pretended he was writing in the air memorizing it. I was worried right away and gave him the benefit of the doubt because maybe he works at a busy deli and knows wtf he's doing. Guess what, my intuition was right and he botched my sandwich. I ordered a chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella with lettuce, tomato, Mayo and balsamic. I got cold grilled chicken that was definitely not grilled that day with lettuce tomato and Mayo. My friends sandwich was correct but a mess and microwaved cheese on meatballs is gross. Two sandwiches and two cokes, $28!!!! The owner seems to be more into running the register instead of making sure the food is good. This place is a disgrace to delis all over NJ. You're seriously better off getting subway. read more

Ordered 4 sandwiches from Josephs Deli. The sandwiches were very good, bread was fresh and used quality cold cuts. My big complaint was the quantity of meat on the sandwiches. The Sicilian only had a few slices of prosciutto. All sandwiches were skimpy and on the small side. I am hoping that it was just an off day and we are willing to try again. read more

Seems to be a lot of "non-locals" complaining about a local deli. Here's an idea if you hate it so much, don't go back again. Us Locals love this place and this place is very important to our town. We pulled into a parking space and as we did we saw a man come from inside without a mask, he obviously worked there. He walked back in and we could see through the window he was sorting the newspapers, no mask. A gentleman parked next to us, he walked in and within a minute walked out with nothing in hand. We googled this place again and saw the owner was the guy without the mask. We understood why the other would be customer decided to turn around and exit without purchasing. Our timing was great, we saw everything we needed to see from the car. So we put it in reverse and did the drive-thru at Panera. We are glad we did!! Was visiting Spring Lake this weekend and was told by a friend that Joe's has great sandwiches. While that may be true, my boyfriend and I left before ordering based on the shocking lack of Covid related precautions in place there... We were initially uncomfortable upon entering, since it was rather crowded -- no one from the staff was at the door to prevent too many people from being inside at once. Then while on the sandwich line we noticed that only two of a few people making sandwiches were wearing masks. The final straw was when we realized that the man at the cash register (who would be handling our wrapped sandwiches and money) wasn't wearing a mask either. Meanwhile, all of their customers were wisely wearing masks... It was really disturbing to see how little they cared about their customers' well-being, not to mention their own. read more

My family have been going to Joe's for over 30 years. The subs are top quality with very reasonable prices.

The food here is great. The hygiene is decidedly lacking. Picked up subs and masks weren't being worn. Watched a guy ring someone up then go back to making food without washing hands or changing gloves. With no pandemic going on that's gross, now it finished me. Been buying sandwiches here for about 20 years. For years I've ignored the weird old men hanging out blabbing about politics because the food was good but now it's gone past politics and into public health.
