I wanted to…read moremake sure I was picking a gym out that was right for me so I went to a few crossfit gyms around college station and Bryan and I noticed a similarity with all of those places. Some people were there to build muscle, some were there to get lean, and some people were there just to try and get back into shape. And no matter how big the class was, there was always one coach for an entire class of all these people who required different workouts to get the results they wanted. They would group everyone into one class and all doing the same workout. To me this seemed ineffective in meeting my goals. That definitely changed when I tried my free week at Body Lab. The first thing I noticed is I asked when the classes start and they said anytime between their open hours. Instead of being on a routine blocked out schedule they encourage people to come in and workout when it's best for them. The second thing I noticed is that there were 2-4 coaches on the floor at all times working with groups of people not too large in size and paying extra attention to the people working out. This was unlike the other gyms I previously visited where coaches would show you how to do the workout by doing it themselves an then saying "GO!", while not paying attention to see if I was doing the workout properly or not. At Body Lab they have coaches like Ross, Alex, and Harvey who are always there if you have any questions and make sure that you are working effectively in the workout. The next thing I noticed was something I haven't seen in any other gym ever. They tailor to an individual's needs who goals are either to bulk up, get lean or get in shape by offering a few variations of the workout of the day, and they allow you to pick which one you would like to do based on your goals you have for yourself. And no matter what workout you choose there is always a coach nearby watching and teaching you the right way to do each exercise. You can really tell that these coaches are there to help you reach your goals and they are passionate about helping you get there. Okay so that covers my thoughts on just working out but there is a whole other side to Body lad. Owner Matt Murski has developed one of the best meal plans I have ever done before. I have tried everything from the no white diet, to paleo, to no carb diet but I never was happy with the results. Matt and his 18 + years of experience in Nutrition really mold to what you are trying to accomplish. Talk about a guy who wants to see the best out of everyone; he sat with me for over 2 hours teaching me how to properly lean down before building up muscle and how a custom meal plan would help me get the results faster. ATTN: Make sure you take Notes!! This Matrix he created is called WhiteBoard Nutrition (http://www.whiteboardnutrition.com/ ). Matt knows his stuff and the passion he has for helping people achieve their goals goes a far way for me. So as a result I could not be any happier with my decision to join Body Lab. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I tried to out train a bad diet and just gained more weight, unhealthy fat around my abdomen. Sugar and processed foods were a formidable foe. I want to be in the best shape I can be as I age because of the limits I see my parents and others face with illness and aging. On June 10th I started this journey at 224.2 lbs. and 28.5 % BF. As of this morning ( 12/23/15 )I was 165.4 lbs. and 17.9 % BF. The one thing I enjoy the most about being health conscience is there is always room for improvement. I"ve got some things I would like to improve on, so its progress not perfection and I am not in a race. It will happen when it happens. In the mean time I am eating clean and changing the landscape of aging. I could have never done this alone so I want to give credit to my nutritional coach Matt Murski with Whiteboard Nutrition for the best approach to understanding food and its affect on the body. I am only one of many success stories coming out of his camp. He truly cares about individual success and has been instrumental in my weight loss. His unique perspective on food is worth investigating as the life it could save might be your own. It changed mine! --

The atmosphere here had been so encouraging and I've grown so much since I began with them. It's been thrilling to have been a member as the m gym has grown and grown, in both class sizes, coaches, talent, and even the size of the physical gym! CFA offers skills training and yoga on Sundays, and have quite the Saturday morning crowd every weekend. In the summers they offer lifting classes and throughout the year, there are healthy eating challenges to participate in. They also have an in-house competition every October that offers a chance to test yourself just within your gym, and they encourage participation in the Crossfit Open every spring. CFA offers 10 classes a day, which makes it really easy to switch around if needed, but what I find wonderful is that the class times each have their own personalities and a solid group of the same people that attend every day. The coaches are always on the same page and go through and breakdown the movements, even when it's a class of veterans. There is usually two coaches for every class, but depending on the time of the class, there are usually two or three more coaches who will stop what they are doing to watch your lift and give you pointers, especially during the busy afternoon classes. Along with having a solid set up for the gym, and programming that is incredibly on point, the entire atmosphere of CTA reeks of family. Six or seven times a year there is a pot-luck, pool party, or my favorite, the Craw-Fit boil. Over the past two years I've made some wonderful life-changes and CFA helped pull that trigger. I've done some things I never thought I would do and most days I feel stronger than ever. Even when I just absolutely do not what to workout, if I show up, I always feel good walking out. And the support from the other members has been astonishing. A lot of CF gyms talk about being the same way, but everyone at CFA has fostered that supportive environment and with that support, I have been able to participate in different events and do extremely well, even when I didn't think I would! I've also met some of the best people and made some of the best friends at CFA. I really can't say enough good things about my experience thus far, and I continue to look forward to the experiences in the future.

    I'm by no means a crossfitter…read more... But I went this past Saturday with a group that I workout with, and I didn't die. That's as good as it gets with me and crossfit. Cross fit is as mental as it is physical, and in Houston heat and humidity in the early morning, you need serious mental conviction to not die, and strength to pace yourself and stay focus. Out instructor was clear with directions, demonstrated everything, corrected form during each exercise, and had words of uplifting wisdom through out, which helped A LOT. I completed the day's workout and felt very rewarded with my accomplishments and the fact that I met his as well. I will go back and try again, definitely!

I am only in the area for the next three months & have been heavily thinking about & wanting to join the crossfit community for the last couple years. I found Spectra on Yelp searching for crossfit gyms in the area & the reviews were very positive and welcoming! I had an AMAZINGLY positive conversation with Donald (one of the coaches) while setting up my trial week of classes that solidified that this was the gym I wanted to get my crossfit journey started with and build my foundation! I attended my first class on Monday night & it was GREAT! The class size was intimate which allowed for specific tips & critiques from the coaches on technique making for a safe, effective workout. Donald was walking around helping & monitoring us all as well as giving constant encouragement & motivation! Everyone at the class was super nice & welcoming making me feel like I had been working out with them for months. If you're looking for a gym to get started with or if your just in town temporarily like me, Spectra Crossfit is definitely a great place to check out!

Every interaction I've had with them has left me feeling like my fitness and my opinion genuinely matter to them. They've done a lot to improve the gym since purchasing it, including implementing open gym memberships which has been huge for me personally. There's no other feeling like having all the amenities of a CrossFit box all to yourself. At the risk of sounding cliche, they've really made me, my wife and kids feel like family. Crossfit 145 and the owners (especially Jess) made it beyond easy for me to feel welcomed and the encouragement for me to come back each time. The classes are scaleable for whatever your needs are. My boyfriend and I are both able to go and enjoy a couples workout even though he has been CrossFitting for 6+ years, he feels challenged each time while I'm a beginner. The coach's have been amazing at helping me learn, but also able to challenge him. Fitness has never felt more personal and rewarding and I have to say that's because of the community and owners of this gym. Don't wait to come swing by, it's 100% worth it!

Between trying gyms, boutique Pilates studios, orange theory; F45 is the absolute king of work outs. I like F45 because they encourage you to lift more, and push yourself (safely). I feel muscles I've never felt before. I also feel stronger which is amazing. Usually I'd only lift 10-15 lbs max. But not here. I'm comfortable squating 44lbs, and 26lb for tricep extensions! Wth. Never thought I would do either. The coaches are so so nice. They will correct your form (I appreciate this a lot). I have only been to this location fyi. Initially, when you walk in, there's a white board that tells you the duration of the workout/rest periods, and how many laps and/or stations there are. There are cubbies for your stuff, and each cubby has a charger for your phone. They also have small towels for the workout class. There are also drinks and food if you're interested. Lastly, they have two bathrooms with showers. When class starts, the coach will do a quick run through of each station. Every class is so different. Not repetitive like OTF. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are cardio days. Tuesdays and Thursday's are (lifting) weight days. You can take a quick breather during class but they will cheer you on to finish the time out. You're there for a workout, after all. Usually if you are lost at the station, you can just copy the person next to you or look confused and the coach will come and show you again. Classes can include boxjumps, ski erg, rowers, weights, benches, resistance bands. Clases are usually 45 mins to an hour. What I like about this is that you're not waiting for the previous class to finish. They are usually gone, everything is wiped down/reset, and easy parking. I really love the community and the other members as well. The camaraderie is unmatched. They are all so nice, friendly, and welcoming. We are all shapes, sizes, and skin colors and working on our goals. I love that there are two water refill stations, two treadmills, a stair master, and a massage chair. Many accoutrements! They have a free 7 day trial period. Terrick is the owner and he's amazing!

I want to point out that I have NOT cancelled or froze my account through the covid as well. That's probably about 5 month of fees that I have not asked back because i wanted to support small business like Brenham Fitness. With that said, I cancelled my membership few weeks ago due to planning on relocating out of state. That did not happen so I wanted to reactivate my account again with Brenham Fitness. To my surprise, the lady at the front desk said that i have to pay the $100 initiation fee AGAIN and pay first and last month AGAIN. I was SHOCKED thats what she said I had to do AGAIN. Also, She knows that I have been going there. Let alone how she spoke to someone who have been going there pretty much every day and supported them even through COVID. She even turned around and started helping other people while I was just standing there for about 5 mins without any warning. the NERVE! She also gave me other package options as well..which doesn't make sense either. Mind you, Brenham gym is tiny and they charge an annual $$$ as much as 24 Hr Fitness! The packages they offer doesn't make sense at all! She was offering a 3 month for approximately $140??? You would think if you agree to a 3 month package renewal, it would be cheaper than $25/month.. do the math... it doesn't make sense. they would charge you $50/month for 3 month advance but for one month, its $25??? Why would anyone pay almost twice as much for a 3 month ( divide it by 3 and almost $50/month)? I wouldn't want to know how much would a 6 month fee would be.. probably $75/month maybe? I also stopped going to the other location because of such an unfriendly staff every time I went there on Sundays. Its one of those places that if you even you say hi.. or Morning... He gave you a look like "why are you even talking to me?" That kind of look.. Or ignore you. But other gym has better equipment than Market St location. You would think that they want to retain or gain more members especially right now with Covid and a lot of businesses closing... I don't get it! STAY AWAY! Go somewhere else even if you have to travel 20 mins outside of Brenham! Thats what Im going to do!
