Stopped in for a couple on Saturday afternoon. Nice place. Too bad it was empty. Then again, it was only 2:30. The bartender was nice, but didn't know much about the Half Acre Lager I tried. Brewed in Chicago was about all she knew. Atmosphere was cool and it looked like it would be a great place for happy hour or pre-dinner drinks. Food menu looked pretty good, so we may have to try that next time. This compared well to other neighborhood Irish pubs I've visited. read more

I love this place! I've been coming here for about a year at all different times of the day- lunch, dinner, late night, and it's always great! The service is so fast, I'm so surprised by these other reviews about horrible service.. sure the servers aren't bouncing around like perky cheerleaders all day but they're fast, efficient, and polite. I've never had a bad experience. AND their food is great and affordable. They serve everything- from bruschetta to egg rolls, burgers, an entire mac n' cheese menu, great salads, wings, tacos, salmon, you name it! They have daily specials and a decent beer list. This is the only "divey" low-key bar I've found in River North and it's my spot! read more

Went here last night for St. Patty's day. There were no servers in sight so although we were sitting at a table we had to go to the bar every time we wanted to order something. I was telling a detailed story and knocked my friends FULL knob creek onto the ground with my elbow. I explained the situation to the bartender and she said "that'll be 12 dollars"... I looked at her confused being a server myself and told her it's literally all over the floor right here and she said "I can send someone to clean it up but I can't just give out free drinks" like seriously? FREE? Obviously you know what kind of service this place has if they don't replace a spilled drink for free. The beer was super watered down and flat however the food was delicious. We ordered the pretzel and the chicken sandwich special. Both were amazing. I would go back if there were servers but never again for bar service. read more

Yes! Another laid-back pub in tourist-ridden River North. Great staff, unpretentious vibe... the food, though, leaves a bit something to be desired. Ordered the reuben which was as stripped-down as it gets: no kraut! Maybe because it was St. Patty's Day? I've come back since then, but just stick to the basics: copious amounts of beer. read more

As soon as I walked in there was a sign at the door that read. Patrons must leave in an orderly fashion, bla, bla, bla. So this is a fun place when everybody gets trashed! There are two sides. The bar and the pool table side with tables. We had about 15 people and took the PT side. Only problem with that is the waitress wasn't used to going to that side of the building and we had to keep flagging her down. Bring your own fun as this place gets quite stale! The food that I did not sample was enjoyed by all. read more

Be careful here, my backpack was "stolen" from this bar along with a few coworkers of mines backpacks as well throughout the last year..

Service was slow and met only the minimum standards of cordial, professional service. I read other comments and have concluded my experience must have been a one-off, but I'm still disappointed. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a gorgeous July Saturday afternoon and were able to get an outdoor table without waiting. Star! The bruschetta appetizer was delicious. Star! Lunch/ SW Chopped salad w spicy black bean burger and grilled chicken (chicken is extra)- great. Star! Our waitress, Summer was nice and attentive. Star! read more

This is where we (at my job) go after work for drinks. We usually have lots of drinks here. Lots. Many different folks have had many different names for it. "The Breehole." "The Bree-horn." Or: "Are we takin' it to the 'hole tonight?" "Oh, you know it." We've had a lot of naughty fun there, and the bar has always been accommodating. There's a pool table in the back. Oh, and there's a secret bathroom somewhere if the ones up front get too busy... read more

Dropped in here for lunch the other week. The menu is pretty good, lots of options. I'm a sucker for a good Cubano Sandwich and when I saw that I went for it. Sadly the Cubano sandwich was more of just a ham sandwich... I was kind of disappointed. I think I just got the wrong thing because the guinness stew looked really good. The menu is ok not special. Overall the service was good service and it makes for a good place to grab a quick lunch and a beer. If you're lucky enough to be at Brehon on a nice day, try and grab a seat on the patio. read more

The service here is always good. Very personable people and fun games to be played if you're into that. Tons of beers and plenty choices for cocktails. You won't find a better spot with fun bartenders and cheap drinks in River North read more

One of the few bars in Chicago with Hefe Weiss on draft (Ebel in this case) AND they have the correct glassware for this beer! Golden. One of the very few places to serve sloppy Joes and Behon's is excellent. If the fries were fresh-cut, 5 stars. The bartender was friendly, prompt and helpful. Note to Staff: Order backup glasses. thx edited review: Deleted 4 stars. Went there today and they are no longer dog friendly outside. Bar tender made a really big deal about our docile dog outside on the patio. Won't be back. read more

bravo! a pub that isn't douchy or dirty. ate here tonight with my boyfriend and we enjoyed our experience. service was good and the food was fresh! we will be back :) read more

Emily pours a good drink... and the comfortable atmosphere tells me I can stay as long as I want.

Wow. Really rude. We called in a corporate lunch order and the lady was making fun of me on the phone. The lady yelled at me again when I asked for a sandwich that comes in a wrap to be placed on wheat bread instead. She seemed like someone who was old enough to know to be polite (not like youth is a free pass to be an ass, but still). I was totally patient with her and didn't reply to her negative comments. It's a little sad that no one is managing the staff courtesy level here. The Shepard pie was burned but the rest of the food was about what you'd expect. read more

I really hate giving this place a bad review...because they are nice and have a really good lunch special. I went in today and after about 40 minutes left because I didn't receive my food........I was told at one point...that there was a table of 16 people that just came in before I did..and that my food would be right out...and then another 15 minutes passed and I simply had to leave......Problem is...That table of 16 are probably tourists that have all day to eat lunch and I have one hour...Couldn't they just get the one buffalo chicken sandwich served to me ..? Guess not.......... read more

This review is strictly for the Happy Hour which is from Monday-Friday (5pm-7pm). The food on the menu is knockout and is a great way to start any evening. Make sure to get the Mac and Cheese and the sliders are not bad either. The best thing on the menu is the hot pretzel with cheese. Probably the best pretzel that I have had in Chicago. Enjoy! read more

Food was sub-par. Salmon was fishy tasting (fresh fish never has a fishy taste or smell), mashed potatoes were out of a box and the sodium content was way over the recommended daily limit and the vegetables were a frozen mix of over-boiled carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. The service was perfunctory. read more

Great service, generous pours, and reasonable prices make this classic Irish pub a River North standout. It's perfectly positioned between the bustle of River North proper and Old Town; rowdy sorts usually stay away from this one, and that's fine with me. read more

Typically Brehon isn't that crowded and that is why I like it. It has a very cozy atmosphere and very nice staff. The drinks are not over priced, but not under priced. I haven't tried too much of their food, but what I have tried has been pretty typical bar food with the exception of their "Nachos". Instead of having chips they have waffle fries which is the Irish was of making nachos, they are awesome! Besides of the major beer drinking days (I.E. St. Patty's) the bar is mostly locals who are very friendly, it's one of the few pubs in the Gold Coast area that is not over ran with tourists and stupid drunken college kids. I highly recommend Brehon. Oh, pool tables also! read more

Friend rented out the back room for a private NYE party. Turned out to be an amazing time. Great drinks, friendly bartender, and warm/low key atmosphere. Perfect space to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. read more

I've only been here a few times, but it seems like a great neighborhood pub. We end up here usually while waiting for a table at one of the area restaurants (mmmmm...Wildfire(which is back on my good side, btw)). We typically get really good service, even if they're busy. Prices are reallly good, especially for the area. And the beer selection is exactly what you'd expect from a neighborhood Irish pub. I can't give 5 stars becuse it's just a bit smoky to be a really great pre-dinner place. Parking can be tough, but stick with it - you'll find a spot! read more

Always a pleasure whenever I visit here. I wish it were a little bigger so that I could invite the whole gang! But for now, I'm fine with keeping this local gem all to myself! Great specials! Great service! They might sound rushed when placing an order over the phone but I'm always greeted with a smile whenever I come through the door. read more

Let me start off by saying the buffalo chicken tenders itself deserves 5 stars. But the rude waitress who is an older lady really need to go back a costumer service training class! My co-worker called and placed a order for us there. The lady was very condescending and kept cutting her off as she was trying to place her order. "Are you done yet?" "Okay, okay is that all now?" Thinking that she was just very busy we brushed it off and didn't put much thought in it. 15 minutes later we went to pick our food up. The place was literally empty besides two or three people sitting at the bar drinking. She completely ignored us. We had to literally ask her to stop pretending to stack cups so that we can pay for our pickup. She rolled her eyes and slid us our food and snatched our debt cards. Next time this happen I will be asking to speak to her manager. She doesn't need a job that involves being around people if she is not a people's person! The next day another co-worker decided to try out their wings (Very yummy by the way) She said she had the exact same experience. The older waitress was very rude to her and made her uncomfortable. read more

A little neighborhood bar in River North if there is truly such a thing. Definitely a refreshing change from the hair gel, cuff links and boat shoes of other river north establishments. The food is pretty solid and the outdoor patio area is nice. One of the few places you can go on a saturday afternoon and sit outdoors without having to wait or deal with insufferable people. Drinks are pretty cheap. the only reason I'm not giving it four stars is because they were severely understaffed and the waitress wasn't good about checking in about more drinks. Gotta keep my cup full. read more

Best Mac and Cheese, hands down. I love the wait staff and the tater tots are fantastic. This is a corner gem in a trendy neighborhood. I felt like I was in an episode of Cheers..and yes, everyone knew my name;-) read more

I love this place, dart board in back and Allagash White. What else do you need? From the outside you wouldn't think that much, but once inside it feels like your regular neighborhood bar. read more

its a bar. i like that they have irish nachos. great when you're drunk, but like most bars, don't expect much from the food. read more

This place is awesome! I had the buffalo chicken wrap which was the best buffalo wrap I've ever had. This place is amazing! The food is not bar food it is restaurant quality! The manager Ramiro is the nicest and really takes pride in the food, which I can really appreciate. Don't come to Chicago without trying this place! read more

Just an average bar in a cool neighborhood. Not as flashy as some other places downtown, but I guess it serves a niche for locals in the area. I really didn't think this area would have a place like this as it is typical of your suburban irish places. read more

Went here and the service was awful. Took a million years to get an awful drink. I would stay in my neighborhood in Bridgeport and go out. Forget this place. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my parents on a Saturday. It was nice, relaxed bar atmosphere: pretty standard Irish American bar. The food was good, reasonably priced, with a fairly varied selection. Service was good; Megan was fabulous. She was really friendly, funny, attentive and my parents loved her. Samantha, on the other hand, was the worst. You definitely want Megan. read more

What kind of place fires the entire staff!? Wont go back here... It had a very Cheers feel to the place... Now its a new staff and a new attempt at a lincoln park type spot. Lincoln park type feel... IN A DIVE BAR! Doesnt make sense. read more

Been here two weekends in a row to play darts and enjoy the chill atmosphere. Even said it was my new favorite bar; not too crowded, has darts, a jukebox, I like their chicken enchilada soup good place to watch a game. Met another couple and shared some tasty banana-doughnut ice cream dessert to celebrate a birthday. But the one short-haired blonde bartender with the nose ring I think has ruined it for me. She shouldn't have been busy, certainly didn't look busy, and it got to the point that I felt like I was wearing an invisibility cloak. Whatever. What pissed me off was that when I *politely* mentioned in a "just so you know" kind of way that my half-finished food was taken before I was finished without anyone asking, she said, "Well what do you want ME to do about it?" Ummm...holy cow! Really? For real, did I deserve a retort like that? Yikes! After that she did her best to ignore me and make me feel like I was inconveniencing her by coming there all night. When my invisibility cloak malfunctioned at JUST the right time again, I ordered drinks and came back to pay for them several times and she was nowhere to be found. At last call, she served everyone but me and then told me no. Probably was behind the rude bouncer coming to tell us it was time to go even though everyone else wasn't getting talked to like that. I didn't even have a drink to finish like they did. Everyone has a bad day and maybe this was hers, and I want to go back because I like this bar, but I'm scared of being treated so rudely for no reason at all. :( read more

I work down the block so this is the occasional afterwork drink spot. And this is exactly what it should be unless you live in the hood. It's a neighborhood bar filled with peeps from the hood or who work around here. The food is standard pub fare. I reccommend the Irish Nachos while drunk to soak up the booze. Decent fish and chips which I just consumed. But beware of the River North prices!!! I was just charged $6.50 for a poorly poored Guinness. Basically my beer cost more than my fish n chips special. read more

i havent tried the food, but the staff really made me feel welcome the very first time i went in, the sam lite bottles were ICE cold just the way i like them. they have a pretty sweet selection of bottled beers, every one i interacted with in there, regulars and employee were all very cool . . . read more

Brehon Pub - Pubs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This place is awesome. Everyone has to have a local bar and this should be your spot. Bartenders and some of the coolest people you can talk to. They usually dread seeing me and the other 2 locals I go with because they always get hammered with us on random Saturday afternoons. The food is normal bar food and nothing to write home about, but when you are drinking like that, all food takes good. There's 2 pool tables in the back bar and darts in the front. I'm partial to the jukebox, but they sometimes let you just plug your Ipod in if you have one. I love this place and look forward to the weekends because of it. read more

My local watering hole that does not even need to ask if I want a pint of tasty Guinness. Food is average, though the egg rolls are good and fries are crispy. Be wary of wearing anything Cubs related too. read more

Watched the super bowl here...food is solid and reliable bar food. Huge screens everywhere and there was plenty of room to watch, solid hang out on a consistent basis. The staff members are not the most observant though, and this has been the case on multiple occasions. Nothing is more annoying to trying to give a business money and you have to wait to do so...also, don't chance your parking on wells street. I've gotten tickets twice there, and my visit to Brehon's turned out to be way more expensive than I had planned. read more

Nice neighorhood pub with full bar, good food and big menu. Good spot to go to for a fun and low key night.
