Great park. Here for the 4th of July fun festivities. Pretty well managed. Good amount of security. And fun foe kids and great music.

Spring Creek Nature Area Trail - Trail to overlook the creek

Spring Creek Nature Area Trail

Had to escape from being inside. Came to the perfect place here at Spring Creek Nature Trails…read more What fun it was, the concrete paths are so wide that we could stay away from people. My daughter and I went on a lot of off the main path to be more adventurous, it was great! There is all ages of people that were here, people walking their dogs, riding bikes (which was annoying) if you're walking/jogging on the main path. The view is great!! We did a hour adventure and clocked it almost 3 miles! This would not be good for the summer, would be too hot! Also there is paths that have no warning that if you go down them it goes to apartments, which suck because of you haven't ever been you have to come all the way back should be a sign that says to apartments (dead end). That was the downfall. But to get away and enjoy outdoors, this is a great place!! Even see all kinds of wildlife, my daughter pointed out a red tail hawk it was cool. With all the rain we could not go to more off paths because it was muddy and wet. So we want to come back and go on them! Plus just to come back to escape the world of being inside. Great place Richardson! A+!

I love the time it's in the summer but about the bugs is kind of a bit annoyed about. It's not that…read morethey should remove it. I'm just saying that it's too concerned for me. Well, it is a creek trail so there has to be bugs right but anyways, they have so many trails But my grandpa and I don't take off course trails because we just don't want to. We don't have any reason for, but we just don't want to. But it's so good looking lots of different species. I've actually saw species type of bug there. It was so beautiful. I even had a butterfly land on me one time I didn't want to move or scare away because it was so pretty.

Cottonwood Park is located across from Richardson High School in the southwest corner of the City…read moreof Richardson. It is a popular neighborhood park, but since it is one of the larger parks in Richardson, it attracts residents from around town. The park has a wide paved sidewalk that winds around the green space allowing visitors to get some exercise. There is a creek that flows through the park and has been dammed in two places to create large ponds that attract ducks, geese, herons and other wildlife. There are two walking bridges that cross the creek on the north and south side of the park. You can also find tennis courts, basketball hoops, sand volleyball, and a small swimming pool that has a separate deep end with diving boards. The pool is only open during the summer between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. Pool hours are limited and depend greatly on the city budget and the number of lifeguards available. A major attraction is a children's playground. It has been developed with different age groups in mind and is accessible for individuals with disabilities too. Twice a year, each spring and each fall, the city holds the Cottonwood Arts Festival. This is a juried event with artists from around the country displaying and selling their unique creations. The City of Richardson plants wildflowers all over the city each spring and reserves large areas of the park for the flowers too. It's a great place to take photos and have a picnic with your family. There are two covered pavilions that can be reserved by residents for parties, meetings, and other activities. The pavilions have tables and chairs and even electricity. I wish visitors to the park would do a better job of picking up after themselves, and I wish the city would do a better job of maintaining the park. Trashcans are often full and not emptied frequently enough so garbage ends up overflowing and blowing around into the grass and the waterway. Despite this, I really enjoy visiting this park on a regular basis. You should check it out too.

The shallow end has a beach-type entrance that gradually slopes into the water. What drew me here was Dog Splash Day. Neighborhood pools in Richardson are open limited hours in the blazing hot summer when kids are out from school. Pools shutdown nearly a month before Labor Day because kids are already back in school. However the real fun happens on the last day of the season when they open the pool up to humans and dogs. The dogs had a blast swimming, jumping, and peeing in the pool. It was about 109 degrees on this particular summer day in August. There was very little shade, so what little they had, everyone was congregated under it. The people running the event took more cash than was advertised to get inside. City of Richardson said $6, but the gate entrance told me $7. The City of Richardson advertisement online said this was a fundraiser for the shelter, but Richardson Shelter staff on site did not acknowledge this. They said they were there to break up dog fights. Someone was kind enough to give me a pupcup which I used to lure my dog to the water. He got his paws wet, but didn't venture any closer. On his own volition, he did head over to the water to cool off, but upon it touching his belly hair, he immediately ran back to shore. Fun event! Glad I went. Will try again next year to get my dog into the water. Hopefully it won't be as hot.
