What a cute little gem in Richardson. The trail was nice and located near a beautiful neighborhood of Richardson... that is so open and peaceful. We walked the entire trail around the park and got to see the different beautiful features it had to offer, including a waterfall, ponds with fish, and a nice bridge. It is a great place to take photos... as I got see a lot of teens come to take prom photos this past weekend. I will definitely be back to visit!

Very beautiful, small park in the middle of the city. We were hanging out in Richardson and needed to take a walk to work off the heavy barbecue we had just consumed. This park was close by and had plenty of parking. We parked the car and did the short path around the park in a circular directional fashion. Lots of people were taking photos by the small waterfall. It was very scenic. The whole park is covered in green trees and plants. It was very well-maintained. I'm sure the city collects a lot of money in property taxes from all these huge mansions. Park is very small, but nice to spend an hour here.

I came by here to check on the wildflower status. The city of Richardson is fantastic at planting wildflowers in most of its parks. This one, in particular, is usually in full bloom, with fantastic flowers right now. Alas, it appears that someone has mown the open area they usually cover? Oh well, there are still many trails and creek crossings to discover here. This is typical of a creek ecosystem that runs through this area of north Texas. Most people don't even know these lovely places exist as they zoom down the highway only a mile away. this is a lovely area and I suggest if you haven't experienced the giant 2 and 3 hundred-year-old trees and nicely maintained trail here... Go!!!!

Absolutely loved this little park/waterfall. Great area for pictures. The park is pretty clean. I would be careful when walking around the waterfall it can be a bit slippery but really nice to put your feet in.

This was such a pleasant park... in the midst of a darling neighborhood. Wildlife (particularly birds) abound... turtles, squirrels & fish all made appearances... among paved & dirt paths. Parking near park entrances & though a shorter trail system... one could easily wander the park multi times without getting bored.

Since my recent move, I've been in search of a nature park as a staple for my workout routine. This one so far has not let me down!! Honestly, who knew Richardson had such an oasis. The neighborhood it is in is lovely as well. Great terrain as well as elevation changes. On weekends, you can find bikers, hikers and runners here. Doggies and families too. I've also seen some photoshoots and photographers capturing pics of the waterfall! We do not have a lot of green spaces like this in DFW so it is one that is a true find. I'd recommend checking it out on a weekday when it cools off or first thing in the AM. I did not see a ton of water fountains so if you are training for an endurance event, I highly suggest you bring hydration. It is lovely and something to do that is not eating or drinking or spending money. We already have enough of that in DFW especially in suburbia. Burn some calories and take in some nature. You will be glad you did.

Prairie Creek Falls in Richardson, TX after a heavy rain. That's when the flow is at its best.

If anyone wants to see and/or photograph the waterfall at Prairie Creek Park in Richardson, go after a heavy rain. That's when it really flows!

Beautiful park with many areas to walk, picnic in or just sit and read a book. It even has a waterfall!

We LOVED this trail and it had so many great photo opportunities! Seemed nicely maintained as well.

Let's just say that this was the longest walk just to find the waterfall. It was worth walking on the trails. I'm a photographer and would recommend few photographer's here. Great area

A very well-paved walk that is a nice little natural escape from the city but also suburbia.

Cottonwood Park is located across from Richardson High School in the southwest corner of the City…read moreof Richardson. It is a popular neighborhood park, but since it is one of the larger parks in Richardson, it attracts residents from around town. The park has a wide paved sidewalk that winds around the green space allowing visitors to get some exercise. There is a creek that flows through the park and has been dammed in two places to create large ponds that attract ducks, geese, herons and other wildlife. There are two walking bridges that cross the creek on the north and south side of the park. You can also find tennis courts, basketball hoops, sand volleyball, and a small swimming pool that has a separate deep end with diving boards. The pool is only open during the summer between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. Pool hours are limited and depend greatly on the city budget and the number of lifeguards available. A major attraction is a children's playground. It has been developed with different age groups in mind and is accessible for individuals with disabilities too. Twice a year, each spring and each fall, the city holds the Cottonwood Arts Festival. This is a juried event with artists from around the country displaying and selling their unique creations. The City of Richardson plants wildflowers all over the city each spring and reserves large areas of the park for the flowers too. It's a great place to take photos and have a picnic with your family. There are two covered pavilions that can be reserved by residents for parties, meetings, and other activities. The pavilions have tables and chairs and even electricity. I wish visitors to the park would do a better job of picking up after themselves, and I wish the city would do a better job of maintaining the park. Trashcans are often full and not emptied frequently enough so garbage ends up overflowing and blowing around into the grass and the waterway. Despite this, I really enjoy visiting this park on a regular basis. You should check it out too.

The shallow end has a beach-type entrance that gradually slopes into the water. What drew me here was Dog Splash Day. Neighborhood pools in Richardson are open limited hours in the blazing hot summer when kids are out from school. Pools shutdown nearly a month before Labor Day because kids are already back in school. However the real fun happens on the last day of the season when they open the pool up to humans and dogs. The dogs had a blast swimming, jumping, and peeing in the pool. It was about 109 degrees on this particular summer day in August. There was very little shade, so what little they had, everyone was congregated under it. The people running the event took more cash than was advertised to get inside. City of Richardson said $6, but the gate entrance told me $7. The City of Richardson advertisement online said this was a fundraiser for the shelter, but Richardson Shelter staff on site did not acknowledge this. They said they were there to break up dog fights. Someone was kind enough to give me a pupcup which I used to lure my dog to the water. He got his paws wet, but didn't venture any closer. On his own volition, he did head over to the water to cool off, but upon it touching his belly hair, he immediately ran back to shore. Fun event! Glad I went. Will try again next year to get my dog into the water. Hopefully it won't be as hot.
