I ordered the fresh-squeezed orange juice, which was delicious. For breakfast, I got the American, three eggs, house potatoes, bread, and your choice of sausage or bacon. I went with the chicken fennel-Asiago sausage and it was really good. We asked about the pancake options and were told we could substitute them for the bread, but didn't realize there would be an extra charge, so a little more transparency there would help. Street parking is limited, but the Culver Garage about two blocks away offers the first hour free. Really can't go wrong with this place if you have visitors in the area looking to satisfy their severely sweet tooth. I tried Breakfast Republic today and overall had a really great experience! I ordered the chilaquiles, and while they're not your typical super traditional Mexican style, I genuinely enjoyed them. Every bite stayed crunchy and the tortilla chips never got soggy even though they were drenched in sauce. Flavor-wise and presentation-wise, they absolutely delivered. We also tried the tres leches pancakes. They were definitely on the sweeter side, but the presentation was beautiful and they're perfect if you have a sweet tooth. The jalapeño sausage omelette was also very tasty. One thing this place does really well is portion sizes and presentation everything looked amazing and felt worth it. If I had to mention one small critique, I'd say the side potatoes could use a bit more seasoning and I personally wish they were a little crispier, but that's just preference. I came on a Saturday, but we placed a reservation ahead of time and it said 30min wait, however upon arrival, they told us it would be 1 hour and 30 minutes for a party of 7. I asked if my breakfast sandwich could have fruit instead of potatoes or if it would cost, she said it could be replaced. My coffee came within a couple minutes. Food came. We were still without waters and my partners coffee. I could see the server in the back talking to her coworkers and laughing, hanging out. Finally she came back and i told her we never received his coffee or our waters. She repeated "waters" and walked away. She returned to her 4 tables and filled all their waters as we continued to wait for his coffee & waters. In fact, she returned to her tables to refill their waters TWICE. Finally we got the extra coffee (as we're halfway through our meal) but no creamer. She left it and said nothing, walked away. At that point we stopped another server and asked if we could get the creamer and water. I saw her go to our server (Yesenia v) and tell her we asked for our items. Our server came back and brought the water and creamer with NO acknowledgement that we had to ask 3 times for WATER. We chugged our waters down and she never came back to ask if our food was ok, if we needed anything, or to refill anything. Our table next to us was frustrated as well because they were never even given napkins and we could hear them having the same concerns about her as us. I think the most frustrating part was seeing her talking and laughing behind the bar instead of even checking in on us. We've both been servers so we are typically understanding but this was ridiculous. Then the bill came and even though it's only $2 i still specifically asked about the change of the potatoes for fruit. The principle that i asked if the substitute costs and she said no. From the lack of accountability that she forgot our drinks until our meals were almost done, never, checked on us, and that we had to ask THREE times for drinks on top of the bill. It wasn't even worth getting the bill changed at that point but I'm in shock at how bad the service was with Yesenia V. I could see other tables with other servers and having great service but our table and the one next to us were completely neglected and blatantly ignored. The food was superb and the service by Louis was excellent. My husband and I will definitely come back for both.
