One of the cooks allegedly used lye instead of salt while preparing food. A customer noticed something was wrong and complained. Instead of being informed about the issue, the customer's meal was quietly removed and comped. Lye is extremely dangerous if ingested. After the incident, one of the cooks reportedly became sick after tasting the food to confirm what was used and had to be taken to the hospital. He was then instructed not to say anything about what happened. This situation is very concerning and raises serious questions about safety and management. The handling of this incident was irresponsible, and those in charge particularly management should be held accountable. read more

You really have to be okay with smelling like an ashtray to come here. I am not one of those people. There are two sides to the bar - one is smoking and the other is non-smoking in theory but still reeks of smoke and I watched someone sit at the bar and smoke. I know people visit for Wednesday night karaoke (that's what drove me to visit). The cocktails and shooters are good but sugary and pack a punch. Not too enjoyable, personally. They have a pool table on the non-smoking side. The women's bathroom on that side is really nice and well kept. Service is hit or miss. I don't imagine I'll return. I like my lungs. read more

At the time of this review, Breakers has a smoking bar and a non-smoking bar, but the non-smoking bar still smells like old cigarette smoke. The bar has a threadbare carpet and cheap furniture, but there are plenty of televisions and the beer and food are reasonably cheap with specials every day of the week. I went to breakers today to get on some slot machines . I won a good amount and went to scan my ticket it asked for assistance . I asked AMANDA WHO RAN THE BAR. Music was fun I enjoyed singing with my fiancée but the lady serving seemed annoyed had only Coors, Corona and Budlight platinum for beers. She also couldn't make a lot of cocktails due to being out of mixers. When I received my sea breeze cocktail it wasn't what I was expecting which was , cranberry juice with vodka. Had an off citrus flavor, was watery and the liquor was cheap. I wound up getting sick out my fiancees window on the way home and am still under the weather. read more

Came here on a Thursday night about 11:30pm to try to get a few games of pool in.... okay... walked in and it just smelled like smoke. I don't mind smoking but at least have some type of ventilation. Anyway one of the girls uncovered a pool table for us which was in a separate room. The room sucks by the way. The tables don't even work properly, after putting the money in the halls wouldn't come out. So we asked someone to open it so we could get the balls though she came out to open it she replied with a "y'all are cutting into my drinking time" humph.. ...... we played one game and attempted another and the same thing happened with balls (we tried again because we were told we were using the table that "works") so I guess they wanted to drink and not help us out so they just have us two dollars. Being new to Richmond, I was looking for a local sports bar to watch my favorite teams. I was excited to check out Breakers. Unfortunately, I don't see myself going back. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a sandwich, a few beers, and some college football. I had a chicken philly but I had to leave before halftime because the cigarette smoke is SO thick in there. Horrible. My lunch tasted like cigarettes. My clothes and hair now smell like cigarettes. My eyes are burning. I think myself and one other patron were the only ones NOT smoking. It was my understanding that smoking indoors was illegal so I'm not really sure why patrons are allowed to do it. Regardless, it's pretty gross. I don't think they have any ventilation or fans. Very disappointed because it looks like exactly the kind of local spot I was hoping for other than that. But that is a huge dealBREAKER for me. read more

I love it because it is one of the few remaining bars where I can light up. And the prices are very fair too. Kind of a neighborhood bar except it has OTB now. Good variety of sports on TV daily. Seems to be a local hangout. Nice place. Didn't think it would be this busy for a Wednesday night but they have karaoke tonight. Place is full. Tara, the bartender, didn't let me run dry. I ate here a couple of times. Some of the food doesn't come the way you would like to. I do have a favorite cook there who can make the food to your liking pretty much all the time but he doesn't work past 5pm. The main server will make you wait forever sometimes even when you are ready to order. She doesn't come check on you to see if need refills. You only get refills once because of company policy unless its water. I've just had better service and attention from serving staff in other places. read more
