Breakaway Cafe has become my favorite breakfast spot solely off their breakfast burritos and quiche. This is probably the best breakfast burrito I've ever gotten anywhere- to be more specific it is the regular breakfast burrito with turkey sausage (they also have 2 other different variations which are probably good as well). They serve it with crispy perfect breakfast potatoes that are even good when you get takeout. Every day they offer a fresh quiche (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) that they sell until it's sold out and we found that the vegetarian one is sold out pretty early every day. When we finally were able to snag a piece, we understood why. It was so delicious and flakey, I wish I could buy the whole pie. The cafe itself is cute with art on the walls and free wifi to work. The service has always been great and everyone is always friendly. The restaurant is always busy all morning and it's a great place to work and chat at. They have a pretty large menu and serve a delicious coffee as well.

First time here, this is a cool establishment to come and hang out, meet friends for a bite/drink or just do some work. The vibe is chill and it has a pleasant outdoor section to enjoy some sun too. Menu is decent size but not so daunting where you feel overwhelmed. Ended up getting the Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of buffalo sauce. The sandwich was awesome, the chicken and breading were fried perfectly. Got a cup of coffee too but it ended up being a tad cold, I shouldn't have asked for a fresh cup but couldn't be bothered. Service was great, the gentleman behind the counter was super friendly and offered some suggestions about what to get. Overall great place, reasonably priced for portion size and they have beers on tap... I'll definitely be back.

Everything was amazing, fresh and so very delicious. Service was impeccable as well as the beautiful restaurant cafe itself. My husband and I enjoyed TWO Cappuccino's with Oat milk, omg delish and a Broccoli Cheese Quiche that was so fluffy and perfect with a side of potatoes. If you have not tried, this restaurant cafe is a must...just saying. Thank you everyone at Breakaway Cafe, delish

My friend and I checked this place out for brunch. Although, I've been to this location before, it had been awhile ago. The ambience of Breakaway Cafe is cozy and casual. It's a great place for groups to dine. The cashier was very helpful. She answered my questions regarding menu options. I decided on ordering the Huevos Rancheros. The meal was very tasty! I'll definitely order this menu option again.

Turkey BLT

I've passed this place many times when out and about and tried for the first time. The vibe is great and the staff is super nice. You order at the counter and then your food is brought over. I tried the Turkey BLT with avocado. This was delicious. The sandwich was piled high with Turkey and the bacon was crispy. I appreciated how fresh the sandwich was. I also got a side of fries which were good. This is something I usually don't order but felt like it today. For an added treat they have a bin of dog cookies so I assumed they allow dogs.

Bacon avocado burrito has potatoes and ice matter

Giving a 3 as the owner maybe manager wasn't the nicest while visiting. The food was good and the coffee was as well, staff overall friendly.

The ambiance is very much that of a diner. The service is different from what I'm used to, they will seat you at your table and give you menus to order. Once you're ready to order you walk up to the counter / register to order. *They Do Not except Cash I personally think the menu has too many options. I was torn between getting a Turkey Ruben sandwich or Ciabatta French Toast. I ended up ordering the French Toast. The French Toast aren't the best it's basically ciabatta bread and syrup I was disappointed... *The turkey bacon on the side was really good. I probably should have went with the Turkey Rueben instead. My wife ordered Biscuits and gravy with a blueberry pancake, Her pancake came out burnt, she sent it back and they quickly made her a new pancake. For her Biscuits and Gravy she said the gravy was great but, the biscuits could have been softer. Overall my experience was ok... not good, not bad just ok.

I got an omelette that had a lot more oil than it needed to; it was a great portion though, and I really appreciated you could get tofu as one of the fillers. The gluten free waffle was pretty "crusty and plain and uninspired" and not filling for the price. For what it's worth, I had one bite of that waffle and liked it more than he did. The folks were very kind, and food came out in good time around noon on a Sunday. Nice big parking lot with free parking.

We usually get the vegetarian family meals, which costs $95 and has enough food for 4 people for 4 days. This comes out to ~$6/meal, which is hard to beat even cooking our own food. A few years ago, the meals each day were all pretty similar, and we grew tired of them. But recently, they are so much more well thought out, and we love how easy it is to order, pick up, and bake these dishes. We usually have enough for leftovers, extra bonus. With the amount of time and money we save shopping for dinner/lunch groceries, cooking each night, and doing extra dishes for those meals, the family dinners at The Root Cellar are a no-brainer. Admittedly, we've never gotten coffee or dined in at the cafe, but it's always about 50% packed, so they must be doing something right :)

The Root Cellar is one of those places that I wanted to like more than I actually did. On paper, it…read morehas a lot to offer, but it also leaves room for improvement in a few areas. Though the name may suggest a cozy café, The Root Cellar is decidedly not that. This place is huge with plenty of seating and space. The restaurant/bakery occupies the front half while wine, beer, and a few grocery items for sale can be found toward the back. While you're unlikely to be left waiting to find a table, it can get a bit loud in here. For a breakfast/lunch place, The Root Cellar's menu offers a good amount of variety. Go for a pastry, egg plate, or smoothie in the morning or a salad, sandwich, or wrap later in the day. The sandwiches show a variety of global influences, the pastries are made in-house, and the coffee uses Joe Van Gogh beans. Ordering is a bit chaotic as lines approached the register from two different sides with no indication of which was the correct queue. The cashier, while not rude, very much seemed like she would rather be anywhere else. Wanting something light to tide me over until lunch, I opted for a green smoothie and an herb cheddar biscuit. I didn't have long to wait for either. The smoothie was a bit sweet, and, at $8.50, no bargain. On the other and, the biscuit - warm and savory - was delicious and a much more reasonable $3. I wouldn't rule out returning to The Root Cellar, but it's not a place I would go out of my way to visit during future Chapel Hill trips, either.
