I've never really been a cat person, per se, but since my high school senior daughter is, I decided to do something different and surprise her by coming here! I personally am so glad that we did because it was such a unique experience. She even was thrilled we went and thanked me for the experience. Upon arrival, I really didn't know what to expect. The employee waiting there in the gift shop/café was so pleasant and cheerful! We told her we had never been before, so we didn't know what to do or to expect. She kindly let us know, and we perused the café while waiting for our timeslot. They had a simple Keurig coffee maker, so I bought some coffee while waiting. It was finally our time to go into the enclosure. It was such a pleasant place to be! It was two levels, and the various cats had different personalities and were so different looking too! Some were sleeping, others were playful, others were just sitting in the windows looking around. It was a very peaceful yet cheerful place to be. They even had a table with colored pencils and coloring books to just sit and destress. There were several couches to sit on, plenty of chairs to sit on too. You could easily sit on the floor and grab any cat toy you could imagine so the cats who wanted to play would come play. The workers were very pleasant and we were able to witness a double adoption occur while we were there playing with all of the cats! It was surprisingly clean and odor-free too! I can see why they have had over 700+ adoptions in their short five years of being there because you are able to spend time with all of the different cats and see their personalities shine! Plus, the cats are socialized even better so they get used to the various people coming in! It is such a win-win situation! I highly recommend coming here, especially if you just need an hour to decompress. It's worth the cause! There were several students that were in our session as well as a much elderly woman and her adult daughter. All ages & demographics were represented, and everyone had a smile on their face with occasional sniffles from those of us who have allergies, but still pushed through because the cats were so cute! I was so excited to go to the cat cafe. It's just what I expected and hoped for. A good number of sweet kitties to pet and play with and if you are interested they can be adopted. Most of the kitties were curious and welcomed pets by the visitors. The place is clean and nicely set up for the cats. They have so many places to snooze and play. I loved it! It's easy to find and they take reservations for an hour per visit. They limit the times to 8 people which is just right. The cats are well fed and cared for here which is what I appreciated so much. Had seen this the last time I was in Carrboro but wasn't able to visit. Was in town once again and checked it out on line, discovered that a reservation must be made for a visit. Fortunately there was one spot left late afternoon, and I took it. So glad that I did . It was super easy to make a reservation and pay for my visit. I arrived a few minutes early, no problem, I was told and read the "rules" of the cat cafe . Off my shoes went and into the cat rooms I went. They must of had a tough day playing because almost every kitty was napping. I wandered from room to room petting some sleepy kitties . There was a cute one named Bailey that was giving me head bumps , he was super friendly and very loving. This is such a great space for these cats. It is very clean and conveniently located right next to a parking lot. I love that they prioritize the welfare of their cats. Cats? Cafe? Yes please! I stopped in here right when they opened. I didn't know what to expect but apparently you need reservations in advance, usually an hour. 30 minutes is available as well. The nice person behind the counter explained it to me and they had one spot open but I didn't have an hour to spend there. She offered 30 minutes, but that was still too long as I needed to get back to the hotel I was staying at for a quick rest before going back to work. So I got a few pictures of some of the cats. There's two floors, all the cats are available for adoption. Awesome! You can get your drinks before going in with the cats, then enjoy your time with them. I would have but just didn't have the time. I made a donation to the cats medical fund and off I went. Happy to have seen some cats while out for business. Lovely people and darling cats. You get to spend time watching and playing with up to 12 cats that live there at any one time. This way you can see how each cat relates to you and to other cats. Their personalities are better revealed that way. You can see which cats are quiet and sweet...and might hide from some of the other cats. You can see which cats are playful and which cats are dominant. I go for the quiet, sweet ones who decide to sleep through the whole thing. Haha! read more

Adorable AND adoptable, the best of both worlds. I've never spent much time in a cat cafe before, but after stopping here I can certainly see the appeal. Aside from having very friendly and helpful staff and a good location, the cafe was just a lot of fun to spend time in. The cafe features a two-story cat room with plenty of room, beds, and toys for their cats. As for the cats themselves, we fell in love with several immediately! It's clear when a cat is well cared for and given a good, caring environment, and this cafe is clearly delivering on that. The cats here are up for adoption too, so it's nice to know they're on their way to families of their own. read more

Had the best time here! Made the reservations online, very easy process. It's an hour drive for us esch way and was well worth the time. We arrived early, which was good as we had to find on street parking and the parking meter was having issues. Got the meter figured out and paid $3.00 to hold our parking spot for about 1 1/2 hours. The cafe itself is very welcoming and friendly - snacks, drinks and a lot of cute cat items, including branded t-shirts, postcards, magnets. We signed in, took our shoes off and went right in! The cats were all wonderful - a few were very vocal, a few were shy and all were well taken care of. We had two people in our group and there were three other visitors, plenty of cats to go around. Jango, Shouty and Piccolo were so warm and Spice even warmed up a bit, she was quite shy when we arrived. There are many cat toys, lots of seating, great music and overall such a great way to spend an hour! We will definitely return to this wonderful cat cafe! read more

They lied to my parents who are older about the cat they adopted from here. It had an eye infection which the cafe ignored and didn't address, so my parents took it to their vet and it has herpes type of conjunctivitis which never goes away & is highly contagious so all the cats there have to have it too. Now I can't go visit my parents in Raleigh bc I take my cat & dog there with me since I live in Charlotte, and now it is not safe to do so bc of the herpes cat. Ruined my family. Never adopt from a cat cafe! So many people and kids touch the cats giving them other sickness's & diseases as well. They are attached to the cat now and won't return her. Beware!!!! read more

I've seen cat cafes when traveling and always wanted to try one out, so I was super excited to learn one had opened in Chapel Hill. I booked our visit a few weeks in advance for a Sunday afternoon. It was a gloomy day, so we had no trouble getting street parking right out front. On a nice busy day on Franklin street we would not have been so lucky! The inside of the Cat Tales Cat Cafe is so cute! It's also very well kept and clean. When we walked in they were actually cleaning the floors in the cat area. They have a nice selection of different kinds of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Our group had coffee, tea, beer, and champagne. They also sell some snacks. The main area downstairs has a handful of very cute cat items for sale, some for kitty's (toys) and some for humans (clothing, jewelry, pins, etc.) They wait until everyone has arrived for the time slot to go over instructions. They have a spot downstairs where you can leave your jackets if you don't want to bring them into the room with you. They do prefer that you take your shoes off, but it's not required. I recommend wearing socks or bringing some with you, otherwise you may want to keep your shoes on. The cat area is super cute, with so many hiding spots for the cats, lots of unique cat toys and items to play with and look at, as well as plenty of spots for humans to sit. All of the cats have collars with a name tag on them. There is also a book to learn more about the cats. A staff member stays in the main area with the group while you hang out. Some of the cats were super playful and some were very shy. They all seem very well loved and taken care of. I think this is a clever way to encourage cat adoption and to let people really know which cat might be the best fit for them. I like how it's in a college town, and that this could be some great stress release for college students. It's not something I'd do all the time for $12/hour, but it's definitely something fun to occasionally do, and if I was looking to adopt I would find the pawfect kitty here! read more

Well yeah, it's early to be rating the Cat Tales Cat Cafe but I managed to get in for a visit during a preview! I do enjoy my felines and was pretty excited to hear that the Triangle's first cat cafe was about to open. It's an interesting space on Franklin Street, narrow brick building with two floors. On the first floor is the cafe where you can grab a beer, wine, drink or snack, head on past the 2nd glass door for kitty playtime! The Cat Tales Cat Cafe hosts 12 felines from Goathouse Refuge in Pittsboro for your petting pleasure. And you can adopted these little guys/girls if you have a favorite! Most are about a year old so they have a lot of energy. The cat lounge upstairs has several couches along with tons of toys and perches for the furry ones to snooze in. When Cat Tales Cat Cafe opens later this week, it will be $12/hour per person and reservations are recommended. They are working hard and should be making an announcement on their social media sometime soon. So enjoy it all if you're a feline lover, you're in for a surprise at Cat Tales Cat Cafe! read more

When you read about a cat cafe, you never really know what it will be like until you go. Our family was pleasantly surprised! We went here for my daughter's birthday. She adores cats and while some might think it is mean to take her to a place that has adoptable cats, it really wasn't. I explained we would be helping socialize the cats so they could find their people...which was not us. I too adore cats and would have a houseful if we didn't own a gigantic 100 pound beast who doesn't realize he is a 100 pound beast. Anyway, back to our visit...we loved it! The cafe space is very small but there are benches outside for when the weather warms up. You can have coffee, wine, beer and snacks. Nothing is made there so there is no worry about cross cat contamination. Even if you did, the place is immaculate. When you finally get into the cat area, again the space is immaculate...like you wonder how in the world they have 12 cats running around and there isn't the errant trail of litter. Or that cat litter box smell. You do have to take of your shoes and wear socks or be bare foot. It was barefoot and didn't hVe any issues with the bottom of my feet feeling dirty. Color me impressed! The cats range in age from about 6 months to 6 years. And obviously they rotate based on adoption. Some are skittish but by the end of your hour, they are all little charmers. It is neat to see personalities show themselves. This is a great way to have a cat pick you, versus you pick a cat. There are toys you can play with the cats with and lots of little books to sit in and pet the cats. And lots of window space for the cats to lookout onto the city and people to peek in. The owner (I think) was very happy to tell you details about the cats that are currently there. My daughter wondered how she knew them all so well! This is a great addition to the city of Chapel Hill and a wonderful way to advocate for these felines. We will return and hope our patronage helps them keep up the good work. read more

This is absolutely worth the price of entry. Just $10 (on weekdays) to come cuddle with these cute creatures? What a deal! I brought my sister and boyfriend here as a Christmas surprise, and they both really enjoyed it. The place itself is so cozy and inviting to just sit on the floor and play with the cats. We enjoyed the hour relaxing and playing with several different cats. The cats themselves are very social and enjoy playing. Many would grab toys from the several bins and almost ask to be played with. DEFINITELY will be coming back. We had a wonderful time here! After months of anticipation my coworker and I spent our lunch break here one Thursday about a month after it opened. For $12 we spent a lovely quiet hour playing with the kitties that just flew by. Every kitty came right up to us and was really to play or just sit in your lap. The staff was friendly and attentive but really let us do our own thing. The set-up is so cute - like a paradise for kitties! It had plenty of toys for us to engage them and comfortable furniture for both us and them. The whole place was immaculately clean - I did not see or even smell a litter box. We had the absolute best time at Cat Tales Cat Cafe hanging out with all the fun playful kitties! My husband and I are casually thinking about getting another cat and saw a post of a black panther that was at Cat Tales and decided we wanted to meet him. During the time of COVID, a reservation is required, and the cat room is limited to 6 guests, so be sure to reserve your time early! Upon arriving, the manager/owner, Katy, gave our little group a rundown of the do's and dont's and then we slipped our shoes off and headed upstairs. You can basically choose your own adventure when you come here, whether you want to wait for someone to approach you, or start flinging around a toy to see who you end up attracting! During this visit, I spent the whole time sitting on the floor playing with a string toy and 3-4 different cats who became interested and then uninvolved over the course of the hour. It's such a fun and nice time to come hang out with a bunch of nice playful and sleepy kitties. The price of reservations deters from wanting to get a coffee or beverage to enjoy while you're there. I've had 4 visits here since they opened early last year. I already have one cat but she's always been an only child so this is how I get my cat fix. The place is CLEAN, doesn't smell bad AT ALL (and if you have cats you know that means the staff work really hard to keep it that way). Cats have plenty of toys and room to lounge around. It's very clear how much the staff care about these cats - they know their names and their purrsonalities. I'm so happy to see that every time I come visit, I see new faces since it means more cats are being adopted! I think the price is $10 on weekdays, $12 on weekend. You'll want to come a tiny bit early to find parking, sign a waiver and buy a drink if you want. Definitely would come back. read more

It was our first Cat Cafe experience and absolutely a great one. We wanted to go on a weekend, so we had to get tickets a couple weeks in advance. When you enter, there's a nice little reception area where you can buy a snack or drink (soda, coffee/tea, beer/wine). We were greeted warmly and given a few instructions before we entered the cat area (take off your shoes, use the hand sanitizer). The cat area is large, open, airy, and clean. They are allowed to have up to 12 cats, and it's plenty of space for them. There are ledges, shelves, tubes, and beds everywhere for the cats to use. They do a great job of giving them space to hide if they need to be by themselves or play with guests. There's a smaller downstairs space and a larger open room upstairs. There are lots of toys you can play with the cats with or you can just sit on a couch and watch. There are a couple employees there to keep an eye on the cats and tell you a bit about them. Each cat is adoptable, and they have a binder with info about each one. Overall it was a fun afternoon, and there's a great mission behind it. Fantastic way to spend an hour! read more

My husband and I recently had an opportunity to visit Cat Tales on a Sunday afternoon. After visiting Pounce Cat Cafe in Charleston a couple of years ago, we've been really excited about the prospect of more cat cafes locally. If you were looking to adopt a new furry friend, I think this would be a great way to meet a variety of kitties to see who might be a good fit. As someone who fosters cats with another local rescue, I enjoyed seeing how comfortable most of these cats are with humans since I know that with many cats it takes a good deal of work on the part of the rescue to get them to that point. The staff at Cat Tales was super friendly and happily answered any questions we had. The space is sunny and there are some really nice windows for the cats to enjoy. It's also impeccably clean and smells really nice in there. I do feel that the layout of having two floors with the first one being a rather small space made it more difficult to interact with the cats without being in someone's way. Because there were more humans than cats when I was there (and because understandably quite a few of the cats were sleeping) it felt like we were having to compete a bit to get any of the cats' attention. If I were to make any suggestions, it would be to limit the number of guests to 5-6 at a time instead of 10. Ten felt like too many for the space and really limited the interaction most individuals could have with the cats. All in all, a fun way to support a great cause! read more

I can't say enough good things about Cat Tales. My partner and I decided to adopt a cat, so we thought it would be fun to make a reservation with a bunch of our friends and family to help us pick one out at the new cat cafe in Chapel Hill. We all had such a fun day, even without testing out any of the human treats available. Everything was clean, the cats were happy and social, and the staff was incredible. I would definitely recommend booking a few weeks in advance if you'd like to have a group together on a weekend. Once we picked a cat and moved forward with our adoption process, we fell even more in love with Cat Tales. The owner Katy has been an incredible support system during our adoption process, and has even gone as far as lending us items to help us train! She is the "purrfect" resource and we are so grateful that we adopted through Cat Tales. At Cat Tales Cat Cafe patrons can purchase a beer, wine, drink or snack, and then spend an hour petting and playing with twelve adorable and adoptable cats. The cats are from Goathouse Refuge, a no-kill animal sanctuary located in Pittsboro. Reservations are made online and are highly recommended as the Cafe does fill up, especially on weekends. The space is very clean and inviting. Visitors enter into the Cafe area, sign in, and choose a beverage or snack if desired. You wait there until your visit time, and then your group is given the rules of visiting the cats and released into the two-story cat play area. Wear your best socks because you are asked to remove your shoes, but not forced to do so if not comfortable. There are couches, chairs, tables, and plenty of sleeping/hiding spots for the cats. The area is meticulously clean and very comfortable, with plenty of toys available with which to interact with the cats. Each cat has a nametag, so you know the name of the cat with whom you are falling in love. I have to be honest, my daughter and I initially thought that an hour was going to be too long and that we would get bored. The hour flew by as we played with and petted the kitties, however, and we didn't want to leave when our hour was up. The cost is $12 for an hour. Children 6 and under are allowed in the Cat Lounge only during special kids' events and children 7 to 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The lint rollers in the bathroom for your use as you leave are a bonus. I recommend spending an hour purring, petting, and playing at the Cat Tales Cat Cafe. read more

I haven't spent that much time here but the treats they have here are especially delicious. The cheesecake in particular. I look forward to the next time I visit and can't wait to spend actual time with the cats lol. The coffee, however, is drip. Not great. Would rather have them hire baristas you can support them in other ways anyway and buy the yummy treats. Besides, perennial is so good and in walking distance. Also, I haven't been in the actual cat room because it's been busy since opening. It looks nice and the cats are cute. I also like that everything looks clean. Everything is elegant and styled well. Welcome to Chapel Hill's first Cat Cafe ever! It was a reservation based Cat Cafe, I reserved and booked my place online, however, I am sure you are allowed reserve within the store. There are only 12 spots per reservation block, which was a nice touch considering it made the place uncrowded. We filed into the place about 10 minutes before our reservation time and was greeted by the owner who told us about the rules as well as providing coffee and other refreshments that you are allowed to purchase during your time there. I was so thrilled to find out that Chapel Hill was going to have its own cat cafe, and my first visit to Cat Tales Cat Cafe did not disappoint! The cafe area is very nice, with baked goods from the Phoenix Bakery in Pittsboro (with gluten free options), as well as an assortment of beverages including local beers and wines. The cat area is two stories of feline fun, with lots of spaces for sitting or playing with the kitties. During my visit, the cats particularly enjoyed playing in the cat tunnel. Overall, it looks like the cats are very well taken care of and loved, and it is clear that their health and happiness are taken into great consideration by the owners. I love that this is a way for these cats to get some TLC and maybe even find a forever home, since all of their cats are adoptable.
