We had planned to do a combination of the Lynn Loop, Cedar Mills, and Headwaters trails, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cut our hike short. However, we decided to take the Varley Trail out of the park instead of walking the tedious 1.5km down Lynn Valley Road, past all the parking lots. I had never hiked the Varley Trail, and even though our day started off badly, we ended up having a great time, having discovered this lovely little trail. At 1.5km and approximately half an hour, Varley Trail is short and sweet. It is very easy with little elevation, however, there are a few stairs here and there, so it may not suitable for those who have difficulty with stairs. The trail is well maintained with boardwalks as well as a few benches if you need a rest or just want to have a seat and enjoy the sights of nature. The Varley Trail runs along Lynn Creek and is parallel to the section of Lynn Valley Road that leads from Dempsey Road (where the End of the Line General Store store is located) to the park entrance. For non-drivers (yes, we exist!) who did not drive to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, it is an alternative to walking 20 minutes down the side of a road. Drivers can also take advantage of the trail, as in each parking lot there are wooden steps leading down to the trail, so one can enter and exit it at several points. Now that I have discovered how to get to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park by transit, I plan on doing a lot more hiking in the area, and I will never walk down that awful road to the entrance of the park; I will now walk along the far more pleasant Varley Trail. My friends and I had a few days to spend in Vancouver after our Alaskan cruise. We had seen free…read morebuses for Grouse Mountain while we were at Canada Place so we decided to hop on for the ride. The website said that the bus ride was intended for those who already had tickets purchased in advance. We had not yet bought our tickets but the driver did not ask to see tickets so we just boarded the bus. Once we arrived we found there were several activities that were included with the mountain access ticket. There was a long line to purchase tickets, and it moved very slowly. So I pulled out my phone and purchased our tickets online so we could skip the line. You can choose either the gondolas or the sky ride to the top. We chose the gondolas, and it was a fun ride with outstanding views. The windows of our gondola were dirty and scratched which did reduce the visibility and did affect our enjoyment of the views. Activities included mountain biking, hiking, zip line, a roller coaster, nature shows, and a lumberjack show. Grouse Mountain could easily be an all day experience, but we only had a few hours as we had to meet friends for dinner. So we didn't get to experience the zip line or roller coaster. The bird show was interesting and informative. The birds seemed to enjoy the applause. The bear refuge habitat was very nice and the bears seemed quite content. We watched them for quite some time as they were very active. The lumberjack show was actually entertaining. We hadn't really planned to watch it but the show started just as we were walking by so we sat down and ended up enjoying it. The only real issue was that the restaurant had a long line, slow service, and a limited menu. Some of the items on the menu were not available. We thought the food was expensive and not very good. We waited a long time after ordering for our food. We were here on a weekday afternoon so I can imagine that the line for food would be even longer and slower on weekends. Overall a nice experience. We thought the mountain access ticket was a good value, and only the restaurant was overpriced. It was not a perfectly clear day but we were still able to see Mt. Rainier. I would recommend purchasing tickets before you arrive to avoid the long line for admission tickets.

Last year I discovered a hiking group that hikes in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR)…read moreevery Monday morning for a couple of hours. Due to my school, I was only able to go on one hike with them last year as I found the group just before the fall semester started, but this year I've gone on half a dozen hikes with them and look forward to many more. There are 65km of hiking trails in the LSCR, ranging from easy (such as the Rice Lake Loop) to challenging, for more experienced hikers. There are several intermediate trails, including a portion of the Baden Powell trail, and with all the different trails, it is a great area to explore and your hike can range from an easy one hour walk to a hike of several hours -- there's something for everyone. The LSCR is located between Lynn Headwaters Regional Park and Lynn Canyon Park, so you can combine a hike in the LSCR with a hike in Lynn Headwaters or Lynn Canyon for more variety. Another great thing about the LSCR is that it is transit accessible! You can take the #227 or #228 bus, or take the #210 bus to Lynn Headwaters and walk about ten to fifteen minutes to LSCR. Parking is available in the nice large lot next to the water treatment centre. There are public washrooms here as well. Some of the trails here seem to be more like service roads. Very well maintained. There are plenty of bear warning signs too. Guess somebody got eaten at one point. Plenty of fellow hikers and dogs here for bears to snack on. I remember always seeing other people at some point. In other words, the place is pretty crowded during the summer months. The trails go quite a ways from here. Hikes can go from minutes to hours or days, depending on what one is looking for.

Zooming down the ocean, wind in your hair, sun on your face...you'll have the time of your life!!! The adrenaline rush was unreal, and the views from the water were stunning. Still buzzing from the speed, and sprays. And let's be honest, seeing Van from the water is absolutely epic. You rediscover the city from a completely different perspective. The experience is a total thrill -- high speeds with the sun and wind in your face, plus those mini splashes of water that make it feel even more epic. Vancouver's coastline is stunning, but seeing it at high speed is a whole different experience. We felt safe but totally exhilarated. Definitely hope you get Ray as your driver! He clearly knew exactly how to make the ride exciting while keeping it smooth and controlled. Ray's energy, charisma, and knowledge about Van were truly impressive. He didn't miss a single detail and made the entire tour feel engaging and special. Thanks to him, you really feel like you get to know the city, because he shares so many interesting facts about every place you pass. It's not just a boat ride - it's 3 hours of thrills with incredible views at every turn! The boat then stopped at Bowen Island and the tour includes ice cream on the island. It's a little escape from the busy everyday life! Life just moves differently here! I could get very used to this island time thing! I can't think of a more exciting way to experience Vancouver's scenery! We got to feel the rush of speed, soak up the splash, and experience Vancouver from a whole new perspective. We cruised through the Howe Sound, felt the ocean breeze, and took in unbeatable views of Vancouver! Speed, waves, water splashes...full-on adrenaline rush! There are several trails that you can hike and we chose the creek path, it was about 2.5 km and a loop. It is fairly well marked as well. If you go on a weekend, there will be a lot of people so you can't straight too far from the trail anyway. There are a lot of stairs on the creek trail so be prepared for that and some of them are incredibly steep. It is beautiful, great river and Woods views. Plus we were blessed with 60° sunny weather today so it was absolutely gorgeous hiking weather. There is a café here, although we did not partake in any food or beverage, as well as clean restrooms and a water filling station. Take a moment to step into the ecology center if you would like to look at any of the exhibits and make a donation. They do have a lot of wooden bridges covering the more muddy bog areas, and the rest of the trail is dirt packed with tree roots veins. It is a well-made trail with appropriate steps and fencing to keep you in bounds.

We went on a Friday and it was pretty busy but we arrived around 11am and there were still a couple of parking spots available in the various small lots around the park. There is a snow chalet type building near the trail head & suspension bridge that has restrooms on the outside and some snacks and ice cream on the inside. We took the Twin Falls loop trail and went in the direction that started with the suspension bridge first and it was a lot more stairs and steeper than we anticipated. The hike back up from near the creek at the bottom had us sweaty and huffing and puffing as middle-aged parents. haha! But the trees and foliage was beautiful and we even saw a banana slug! We were cursing the 20 flights of stairs up and down but afterwards, we felt good.

A mutual friend living in Vancouver described this trail as "endless" and "disgusting". "You should…read morego if you're into that sort of thing." With that glowing endorsement, this was by far top on my list which probably speaks volume. I had originally planned on going a day after arriving, though the weather was near perfect so that I couldn't resist going after checking into my room. I took the 236 bus up which conveniently stopped at the base of the mountain. Folks were performing deep stretches and breathing exercises at the trailhead in preparation, a sign of things to come. When I started, I paced a hiker in front of me for a while before overtaking her. Naturally, another hiker came up from behind and steadily passed me. Intense concentration from everyone made the hike a fairly quiet one with occasional nods of empathy from those taking an extended break. Markers along the way tell you when you are 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the way up along smaller fractional markers out of 40. Beyond the 1/4 marker, downhill hiking is no longer permitted, though I noticed a handful of hikers doing just that. In total, my time was 1:07. In between the sweating and the panting, lush forest trees and bright purple foxgloves made the experience a visual delight. Heading back down via gondola, I had a chance to talk with someone who has been doing the grind for years and still loves it. Next time I would try the BCMC to compare but consider me a fan.

Think stairmaster but for an hour. The first time my wife and I did it, we got 59 minutes. This second round, we beat our time. I channeled my inner billy goat and hiked it in 56 minutes. There is a scanner at the bottom of the hike and top of the hike that you can scan to get a more accurate reading of your hike. I recorded everything on my apple watch. The trail is beautiful, plenty of temperate rainforest to see and markers to show half way, 3/4 way and it gets brighter as you approach the top. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, this is a very hard hike but the reward is worth it. Free to hike up and there is no way down except to buy a tram ticket that is around 20 CAD.
