Went to Breadsmith for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of items. The breads were all displayed in such an attractive manner and the staff were so friendly! My children love the cinnamon swirl pullman bread. It has a delicious ribbon of cinnamon throughout the loaf. We use it for just toast or French toast. This store is always well organized with signs and barriers to maintain the cue of people. As you enjoy all the sights and smells of fresh made bread, they take your order so once you get to the register, all you have to do is pay. Overall it is quite efficient. If you have never been before, you should look at the menu ahead of time since all the different options can be a little overwhelming. Also, you can sign up for their loyalty program online. Whoever designed this space deserves a raise, given the lovely feel of the space being part of why my mom wanted to give it a try. That said, I have to wonder if they ran out of flour and subbed sugar in this lemon blueberry loaf. One slice, and I'm literally shuddering from the sugar still. Do not try this if you're diabetic - I'm absolutely not joking. The loaf was as dry as it was overly sweet. It's sat in the fridge three days since, ignored by a household unwilling to give it any of their limited stomach capacity. I took it out just now thinking I'd temper it with a French toast treatment with no added sweetener to take the edge off the sugar rush and give the loaf a moisture boost. Well, it's less dry, so yay, but I'm still shuddering from the extreme sweetness of it. I might just make coffee now when the sun is about to set just to cut it. Oh, and I just realized why I reacted to the sweetness far worst this time than the test slice: I forced half a slice over course of ten minutes, paired with milk tea that I gladly gulped between unenthused bites. I might give this place another shot at some point, though I doubt it. Amping the sugar and cutting the moisture to extent your customer tries to tweak the dryness and sweetness out of your baked goods is an amusing and thankfully new level of no for me in considering a bakery. The raspberry cookie was repeat re eat .... so delish. The pumpkin was smooth and did spread over my tongue like an avalanche of wet light spice. The cinnamon rolls..... they were ok dry, I wish I heated it a little bit. Clean neat presentation of the goods inside the box. We cut them into pieces so we can try every piece. It helps to be flexible as to customer service zeitgeist you can accept when going here. First time I went there: It was only me and another customer in the store. Two store employees were enthralled by the chit-chatting they were doing with the other customer, who already had her bakery and paid for it. 2 minutes of waiting later, I asked: "Ummm. Sorry, could I get a large cranberry scone, please?" The annoyed look of contempt I got from the two women behind the counter was the only reaction I got after that. Second time I went there: I was the only customer there and I asked a women, to the right behind the counter for a single cranberry scone. A older women, behind the counter and to the left, asked " You want all of that together?!?" I look at the first woman confused. She rolls her eyes, gives me the scone and then promptly attempts to charge me for two scones. So, yeah, anyways. The bakery is pretty tasty, though. read more

I drove thirty miles one way to try this place when I saw Lemon Lavender Bread and Lemon Cookies on their menu. Both were a huge disappointment. The odd tasting bread was as dry as Stonehenge. The cookies were thick, hard and had little lemon flavor. Lastly, what is up with the "tip" option on their card reader machines? Tip for what? Putting my purchase in a bag? This is not a sit down, receive service restaurant. That practice was as big a turnoff as their bread and cookies. I definitely won't be back. read more

Still a big fan of many of their products. English muffins and scones in particular. Recently though they have implemented a tipping process that becomes somewhat uncomfortable. Insert your credit card and then I ask you to remove it and choose how much you want to tip, well they patiently watch to see how generous you'll be. Once upon a time this place was aces. Natural ingredients, oven fresh, and decently priced. Now packed with preservatives and cheap ingredients, insanely priced and seldom fresh. Even the once friendly crew nowadays struggles with English while being surly. Old habits die hard, but at least they went above and beyond to kill my desire to ever stop in again. read more

Come here pretty much weekly for bread, rolls, and occasionally a sweat treet like a muffin. The staff are very friendly and willing to make recommendations if you are unsure. They have samples of things if you need to try something before buying it. They cater to a number of restaurants in the Twin Cities as well as their products being in some stores but nice being able to buy direct. So far everything we have tried has been good. Recommended for using a local bakery rather then buying the large brands in the grocery store, their stuff is fresher and tastes great. read more

It's so good I actually want to grab a coffee sometime and roll in at 6:00 a.m. to watch them make it all. OK, fine, sorry, it's not that good. But still, four stars good. It's a sweet pit stop on early Sunday mornings and we quite enjoy the scones, the Chocolate Babka, and the cinnamon rolls. We typically take home an Italian loaf and multigrain for the week. The cookies can be hard to resist, as well. My Father, bless his funny little soul, swears by the bran muffins. That's good for him. To each their own. Word of warning: I used to work at a Breadsmith many years ago. Not this location, however. That being said, I basically know the menu very well and exactly what I want to order every time I walk in. Some favs/must trys: -BABKA. Chocolate and cinnamon roll. Get this and you'll be so grateful. -sourdough. If you love sourdough bread this one has the tang you're seeking. -Breadsticks. Country White bread, perfectly sweet and salty snack. -Challah. This is a kosher bakery with a fairly big Jewish Orthodox following so Challah is sold on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Soooo good. This bakery, though a chain, is fairly legit. Unbleached and unbromated flours. Bakers working throughout the night with some of the first loaves ready to eat at 5:30-6AM. Get here as early as possible to get the freshest stuff. ESPECIALLY THE DELICIOUS melt-in-your-mouth BABKA! Get a whole loaf and share it with your coworkers. A-maze-ing... that about sums this place up! Minneapolis has a rather lame bakery scene but thanks to Breaksmith, I can finally pick up that fresh loaf I've been craving. This place is carb heaven. The place is very inviting the moment you walk in, they also always have a sample tray to try out some sort of bready delight. The prices are decent for the delicious offerings. My favorite picks are the mini olive loaf and the banana muffins...yum. Remember that certain breads are baked on certain days so the easiest way to reference this is hit up their website and view the pdf menu. The only downside is that they close relatively early 6pm or so but hey, it's a bakery what can you expect? The upside is hey, its a bakery and they also open early! You can't lose. I stop in here for the different assortment of baked goods(individual rolls, muffins, Babkas ). On the visit before this , the lemon lavender mini muffin was dry. A rye roll with raisins was too. I thought it was just a fluke or what I picked that day, but today the Babka was also dry. I will still try it again , but am going to wait a while. read more

Breadsmith has the best bread in the Twin Cities. I see that now they've expanded, which may not be all that great. Yet I really like their philosophy of baking. The ovens and the techniques they employ are faithfully European, and the result is a bread that is crisp (but not hard like most American breads) outside and soft (but not without body) inside. Their prices are so affordable that we did bulk of our bread purchase here. The European Multi grain bread is especially delicious. I would say that Breadsmith makes the best bread I have eaten in the US (Germany has better breads). They also have sweet stuff. Lavender lemon and Cranberry orange loaves are delicious and not greasy. My daughter liked Chocolate Babka, though I am neutral about that. They also have muffins. Most breads (except obvious breads and baguettes) are baked only once a week. I love that, because you can tell how fresh the bread is.The staff is very friendly, Minnesota nice, and takes advance orders for Hot Cross Buns or other seasonal specials. I wonder why this place is not crowded, perhaps the location explains it. Give it a shot, and discover why humans lived on bread and water for centuries. I haven't been to a Breadsmith in some years but decided to give the Minnetonka location a try this week. Bad idea. The banana bread that i received had egg shells in it! I only noticed it as the loaf was almost gone. It gives me chills to know my family has been eating this bread for the last few days. Based on the reviews, and the fact that I made a special trip to try it, I was disappointed. This place is similar to Great Harvest Bread Co., a chain of independent bakeries around the country. They even give free samples like Great Harvest does, but I like Great Harvest a lot better. I got some scones and cinnamon rolls. They were good, but a bit pricey and not something I'd make a special trip for. I thought I'd like the raisin bread (I normally do), but I had a sample and decided not to buy it. Better than most grocery stores, but not on my list of favorites. I'd much prefer A Baker's Wife in Minneapolis. They are worth a special trip. read more

I am loving this place more and more each time I visit. So far I have had the best brownies ever...even better than Wilde Roast. I have also tried the focaccia and regular breadsticks which have been good without eating anything else with them. My partner loves the chocolate babka rolls and that is the main reason she goes there. The only downsides are that there is no gluten free products although there is vegan. And the focaccia breadsticks are only available on friday and saturdays. I recommend everyone try the Breadsmith at least once! read more

Not happy. The one day that Blueberry Cranberry bread is available each week, even at 9 am the bread is too hot to get sliced so I had to take a loaf and hack at it myself later it not get any. I was told that the "special" breads get made last so that will continue to be a problem. read more
