I love this bakery! Anytime I'm in excelsior I try to stop in for a pastry or cookie and a cup of coffee. Their baked goods are fresh, flavorful, and high quality. I recommend trying the Coconut Rocher for a unique blend of flavors! It's incredible. Their croissants are flakey and light weight and the various sandwiches and quiche options make this a great spot to grab a light bite for breakfast or lunch! The bakery is cute and cozy with big windows looking out to the Main Street of excelsior and a few different tables inside. The staff is always kind and quick even during busy periods. The almond croissants are flaky, flavorful and filled with moist almond paste that are terribly addictive. I go here every Saturday morning after working out, hoping that they won't be sold out of the almond croissants. Combined with a cup of rich dark roast coffee and cream I am rejuvenated and leave satisfied and ready for anything. read more

It's a bakery. Physically it fits and looks old school for our Main Street of Excelsior. Went there twice but didn't taste old school or new school. 2-4 bites and our stuff ended up in the garbage can. Wish it was one of those old school places but when Cub down the street has better flavor it's kinda of a slap in the face. read more

Probably the best bakery in the state. I was recommended to visit this place by the nearby boutique owners, clearly it is a local favorite. I'm not exaggerating. This place was PACKED on a Saturday morning, but wow do they crank out that lineup of people. The have great staff that know how to make their customers happy. I ordered a DELICIOUS almond chocolate croissant. This was quite possibly the most delicious croissant I've ever tasted. Super flakey and crispy outside and perfectly soft inside with the chocolate. I also got a vanilla latte. Super good and made quite speedy. My total price was around $10 which I thought was reasonable! Next time I'm in town, I will be making this a MUST stop. read more

Such an amazing place! Their breads, pastries and sandwiches are amazing! Highly recommend their soup as well for a cold winter day! I have not had any of the coffee before but if you are looking for a great sandwich for lunch highly recommend this place! Everyone here are so kind and patient. I always come back for one certain item... You need to try the almond crescent! Buttery, flakey, and the best almond filling. Seriously this pastry paired with a vanilla latte is a match made in heaven. I love how helpful the staff is too. If you don't get the almond crescent try one of their cookies or loaves of bread! I recommend going earlier on the weekends to get a good spot inside but if not they have outdoor seating as well. Cute corner store everyone needs to try! read more

I spontaneously stopped by to get an iced latte after a 5K - it was delicious! For iced drinks they only do 16oz but for hot drinks they do 8, 12 or 16oz. This is a very good bakery and coffee shop in downtown Excelsior. They have a variety of pastries, breads and cookies. Also, coffee and tea. There is an outdoor patio in addition to a small indoor seating area. We tried the pain au chocolat and a special pumpkin danish. Both very good. The country white bread is good too. It's a massive loaf and costs $7. They have baguettes and they are excellent. The best thing we had was the triple chocolate chip cookie. This is like a brownie in a cookie. 3.5 Ok, so as an Excelsior local I've been coming to Red Bench (and the patisserie before it) for years and it's an ok bakery. Their peanut butter cookies are great and the flavors of the pastries are by no means bad, but the real issue is that I don't think I've ever had a pastry there (croissants, muffins, you name it -- all but the cookies!) that wasn't over baked, sometimes even burnt. I just don't get it. The croissants are clearly too dark. I want to love Red Bench, but they need to take more care not to over bake their stuff. read more

Unreal tasty pastries, the cinnamon roll, and ham & cheese croissant were awesome. Regret that we've been a few miles away for a few years and never stopped in. The kids loved it and so did I. This was seriously delicious! I had ordered a baguette sandwich to-go and i was so impressed. For a little over $10 i have to say it was worth every penny, the sandwich was near the size of my forearm and the proportion of meat and cheese to bread was perfect. Holy wow, folks. I've been to downtown excelsior a LOT, as a native Minnesotan that's just what we do. I've always stopped by the "chain" local places, mostly out of convenience and comfort. Today, had a lot more time and explored with the puppies. Found this place. Will never go to the big chains again. Food - and most importantly, coffee - was incredible. Get the cinnamon roll, thank me later. The iced latte was delicious, add vanilla. So so delicious. Service - also incredible. I'd never been, and the cashier was friendly and offered so many great suggestions. It's quickly become my favorite local spot, I'll be back for sure! read more

The breakfast food here is the real deal. I had the egg sandwich and got googly eyes after the first bite. The aioli on it was the kicker for me. Only four stars because the coffee was a little bit subpar in my opinion. Trending more toward the typical overroasted beans, rather than the third-wave lightly roasted beans I prefer. I was in town for business looking for a place for breakfast snd to do some work (yelp does not list them in the breakfast section) . Red bench bakery fit the bill to a tee. Great service, fine people, and an exceptional breakfast consisting of a large croissant with ham and egg, drip coffee, and a sweet monkey bread muffin. All were delicious. The baked goods are as good as any I've had in Paris. The coffee, the service, and even the prices are excellent. There are 2 locations; regrettably, the Excelsior location is very small, dark, cramped. (The chairs are abysmal-- come on guys, put a few bucks into this, since seating is all you have here.) read more

Absolutely wonderful little bakery in downtown Excelsior. All fresh ingredients and everything is baked American made in the wee hours each morning. It's a "scratch" bakery. And they use real butter. The hot Chai is one of the best I have had. The Chai mixture is all made in house. Great cookies and great baked goods. The baguette made pre dawn was excellent. Love this little bakery and is definitely a destination. I would drive a long way to visit this bakery. read more

You order at the counter when you walk in, and if you're eating there, they give you a number to bring to your table. We managed to snag the last outdoor table for two. I ordered the classic breakfast sandwich and my partner got an iced chai. The chai easily made our top three, and the sandwich was just the right size on a light, flaky croissant without feeling overly heavy. Such a nice spot for a simple breakfast or light lunch. Afterward, we took about a 15-minute walk through the neighborhood to the park along the river, which made for a perfect little morning. Definitely recommend, and we'll be back!
