Have been driving by for weeks and finally stopped in on a rainy morning. The aromas meet you the moment you open the door along with the cheerful and lovely owner. It's a gloomy day and we are having soup for dinner and what better pairing than fresh baked hearty bread? I picked up the gilroy garlic loaf but couldn't stand the temptation and also grabbed an oatmeal raisin cookie, a snickerdoodle and an apricot scone. No nuts and no fear! The scone is just dense yet light --- heavenly -- especially with hot coffee on a rainy day. The kind lady also reminded me the homemade bread does not have preservatives so it freezes beautifully if you do not eat it right away. What a great idea to stock up my freezer to have on hand when company arrives. I can't wait to return and try the other flavors of scones, the cinnamon bun and pies. The store opened at 9:00, and I got there at 9:10 on the day before Thanksgiving. To my surprise there was a long line out of the door. Well worth the wait. I paid $28 for a cran apple pie that was to die for! Well worth it. I also bought a sourdough loaf, and it is the difference maker for turkey leftovers. I worked with a nutritionist in 2020 and discovered all these sensitivities I have and need to keep an eye on. While I don't have an allergy to gluten, I was advised to cut it out, along with dairy (and frankly I feel amazing). Pretty much the only type of bread I can do is rye and it has to be 100% rye. BreadHaus is the only place I could find that could help me with my bread cravings. I called and the owner was so helpful and so nice and when I went in, I experienced the same great service. They gave me instructions on how to store it and slice/heat it. I am so grateful to find a local bakery I can support!! And the bread is sooooo tasty, even my hubby has enjoyed it. Aww man! I came back to this place to get some clean eating, no preservatives, whole wheat bread but they were all sold out! The sweet lady told me they run out various times of the day, because I wanted to come back at a time where they may have it. Maybe next time! I did get a few scones - Different flavor this time - Raspberry and blackberry...and also a hot spicy mix, looks like chex mix but I am sure more "cleaner" Loved the scones, I think even better than the cinnamon one I tried last time. I'm not sure what the hype is... This bakery isn't European except maybe for a smattering of German breads? But most of the stuff are typical Texan, American, and maybe German-Texan. I do see strudels, and things laced with pecans. Nothing with cream. And I do see scones and muffins. And the standard pies (apple, cherry, etc - all mundane, typical stuff). And yes, there's a lot of breads too - but I didn't see any particular bread to get. Yelp says to get the stuff like the train rolls (what is this?), muesli sticks (uh huh), Salzstangen (okay, this sounds German), Brötchen (this also sounds German) and rye loaves, rosemary, etc. Maybe this would all be fine by me if I see myself heading all the way to Grapevine just to by a loaf. But I think they'll do better in appeasing customers who drive longer distances by actually having food - sandwiches, and toasts. Plus, if they do expand to include bread foods, like I mentioned, I'll at least have some ideas of what to do with these loaves. But this would mean that this place would have to start investing into tables and chairs. And maybe coffee too. So yeah... this place isn't there. At least not yet. 3 stars. read more

Stopped by yesterday (2/8/17) in the middle of the day, so there wasn't any other customer there except one that stopped by the time I was there. It was my first time and just decided to stop by when I passed in driving around Downtown Grapevine. There was a lower selection due to it being a non-peak day or time. The women there were very helpful providing information on the assortment of bread and pastry options they had. I ended up getting a decent assortment of stuff to try, not all of which I've tasted yet since bringing them home (sesame loaf, Hawaiin bar, almond bar, etc). I forget the names of every item I purchased, but the ones I have tried have been delicious. I'll definitely be back if we're in the area again. Saturdays are when they have full selection of options. Great bread option for the city of Grapevine. read more

I. Love. Bread. But unfortunately this place didn't meet my expectations. Looking at the reviews by my fellow Yelpers, I thought this place would be a cute, quaint bakery with loaves of bread and different types of pastries in rows all around the place. It was the exact opposite. The place was rather bare, the shelves had maybe 3 loaves of bread, and the selection of pastries were underwhelming. I was already there, so I decided to just get something. I went with the pecan crumb mini cake. It was okay. There were a lot of pecans, which I love. But that was the only silver lining in what was a dry lump of bread. I wanted to love this place so much more, but I can easily get better bread at any coffee house or market. Looked up pies on Yelp and this place was highly rated. Ordered a chocolate pecan pie and an apple pie for my wife's bday. Decided on tossing in a garlic loaf to try out and everything is delicious. Bread loaf was incredible. Pecan pie is not too sweet and the crumbs for apple pie are delicious, definitely prefer crumb over lattice for apple pies after this one. I love to support local, and went out of my way to bring home a cranberry orange loaf from this nearby neighborhood bakery. Unfortunately, it tasted half baked, with a strong aftertaste of baking soda and absolutely no hint of orange. When I went back to asked to swap it out for a different option, two women listened expressionless to my request; one reached over and plucked a cranberry out of my bread, tasted it, and told me it was just fine. I asked if they really were going to deny me an exchange. Again they both stood and stared at me, and finally I turned to leave. Cake I purchased was like raw dough. So undercooked it was basically like batter. Cake just fell apart when attempting to cut it. Kind of hard to serve and eat a cake that is essentially slop. It was my first time trying their bread. The waste was decent. I only rate this store with ONE STAR for their product because they treated their new customer "me" so RUDE! Here's what they did: one of their employees came out while I was outside the parking lot and asked me this: "Excuse me, is this your car? (he pointed at my car), and I said "yes?." He then said, "can you move it away from the front door?" and I told him, "well, if I can make my car start, then I would be happy to do it." In the back of my mind, this store is so selfish, rude, and doesn't care about their customer. and to think, I was just there (parking) for less than an hour when they approached me. For the first time, my car just won't start, so I called AAA for assistance, I went (walked) to the nearest gas station to buy a battery for my key fab, just in case it will solve the problem. While waiting for help, that's what they did to me (their customer). Where's what I can say: If they don't want your customer to park in a certain area, you should put up a sign or blockage and please do not forget to also put this sign "No Parking for more than 30 minutes!" I was really not a happy customer and I will recommend this place. Customer service?--Very rude! read more

We recently came back from Europe where the bread is nothing like it is in most places here. I missed it and I kept searching for a great product. Then I was visiting Texas and I found the BreadHaus! No preservatives, fillers or additives. Pure and organic ingredients and absolutely DELICIOUS breads, rolls and pastries, very reasonably priced. Wonderfully friendly and helpful owners and staff! My only complaint is that it isn't next door.! I've ordered from them by mail twice since returning home to CA and I've been amazed at how tasty it is even after traveling to me. Interestingly, this bakery is an actual standalone building, not found inside a strip mall. The interior is spacious and warm, but upon looking into their inventory, you will find that the goods are a little pricey. Loaves of breads are easily $1-2 more than you are used to paying. The iconic "dinner roll" here was the Brotchen, loosely translated thanks to Google: "German hard rolls." These had a crusty exterior with an airy interior. I likened this baked good to French bread on steroids. With a very crusty but very porous duality, it was almost New Orleans, po-boy bread-like. Their train rolls have no sugar and no fat; essentially raisins and flour make up a chewy, slightly sweet roll. Definitely good for a health nut to indulge in, but I really liked it as much as any unhealthy article of flour and water fare. The Apple strudel was a little soggy in texture and not super "strudel"-like. There was not much in the way of the familiar and desirable buttery crumble. Fortunately, it possessed whole apple slices. In more bar fashion, the Magic bars had a nutty, buttery, sticky, sweet interior, and the raisins kept it away from the outrageously sweet side, without much in the way of chocolate. BreadHaus is an awesome little bakeshop situated in downtown Grapevine. Normally, there isn't much reason to venture out here, but really, not a bad experience by any means. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to come here. When I was fortunate enough to live near a bread bakery in my hometown, I was a junkie and never bought a bag of bread from the grocery store again. So shame on me for not assuming the bread here would be just as amazing! Our sandwiches have been elevated by the delicious bread loaves that you can have sliced and my breakfast toast is now a thing of beauty. They also sell a variety of delicious treats, and even though they emphasize healthy foods with their organic ingredients, free range chicken eggs, and a heavier dose of fruit in place of sugar, the treats stand up to any bad-for-you dessert you can think of. In fact, I tried a train roll thinking I would probably be in for a healthy tasting disappointment (it has no sugar and no fat) and it turned out to be my favorite pastry to get for breakfast. Like really, I was probably making people uncomfortable with the way I was exclaiming after each bite how it good it was. One note - the first time I went to BreadHaus, it was about 5pm and the shelves had been basically stripped bare. We've discovered that you really need to get here in the morning to get the full selection, so it's officially our Saturday morning errand. Also, if they catch on that you are a regular and not just a tourist, they have a frequent buyer punch card. So get in on that! read more

I'm one of those health freaks who is frustrated by the amount of additives in their food. I am tired of reading labels only to find heaps of sugar and salt and chemicals added to nearly every food item in the supermarket aisle due to which I had given up eating bread about 14 months back. And I'm a lover of all things baked: bread, cookies, cakes, deserts, snacks.So when I found BreadHaus, I felt like my prayers were answered. No, honestly! This is starting to sound like an infomercial but believe me they didn't pay me. I was so relieved to see that they didn't add any sugar or eggs or dairy or preservatives in their breads. Their flour is no frankeinwheat. Its organic! So when I went in to buy a single loaf of bread, I came out with "one of everything please." Their deserts do have sugar in them though. Duh! But not much. Its lightly sweetened when compared to its counterparts. The sugar and eggs(I wish they didn't) they use are organic though, which makes me a little less guilty. Please pay cash for small purchases so that our local businesses can get more profit (instead of big credit card companies), and keep us providing wonderful services. read more

This is my goto bread place when I am not baking my own. The variety of fresh breads there is to die for. A truly excellent sesame crusted loaf, the pain de melange, their light rye... I could go on for ever. Maybe a bit pricy, but sooo worth it. Lovely people too. I will sometimes call and ask them to hold back a loaf because I will be by later. If you're sick and tired of the highly processed bread, or what they try to pass off as bread, they sell at the grocery store then this is the place to go. All the breads are baked fresh and are made using only organic ingredients. Because they bake their breads on-site, some breads are available only on certain days. Also, especially on weekends they will sell out of bread and by mid afternoon you're left with scraps. So, if you know what you want, call ahead and have them set it aside for you.
