3 day trip in Galena and we visited Bread & Vine all three days! Everything we ate was delicious. The French Hotdog was recommended to us by an owner from one of the local shops; I never would've ordered it if it wasn't recommended and OMG it is delicious - more than enough to share! Also not pictured, we had the breakfast omelette croissant and macaroons that were also very good. The staff is very friendly. Will definitely come back here next time I visit Galena. read more

First trip to Galena. Wandered through a few stores on Main Street, worked up an appetite and popped into Bread & Vine right before the lunch rush. Shared the charcuterie board and the goat cheese & pear salad. Plenty of food for the two of us. Nice variety on the meat board and a nicely constructed salad with just the right amount of dressing (I hate drenched salads!). We're not big sweets eaters, so we didn't sample any of the macarons or pastries, but lots of folks seemed to be enjoying them! read more

I was mostly thinking about grabbing a quick dessert...I didn't realize they had a food menu and full bar. The menu was limited, but had great options. We opted for 2 lbs of mussels and some sliders. Simply amazing! We rounded out our experience with a pistachio cheesecake and a lemon meringue tart. That cheesecake, with it's too-good-to-be-true dreamy texture and soft, yet distinct pistachio flavor, was too good to share with others. I picked up some macarons to go. Three stars for those behind the counter and quality of the food. Taking away 1-2 stars for the complete cluster---k at the front end of the place. You open the door and you have a table of people right there. Who thought that placement through? You also have people right by the door when they are paying. Another chaotic moment of opening the door into a crowd of people. Solution: move the register to the middle to help space out your crowd. I could see people consistently annoyed with your setup. Flow all wrong here and it's a shame. read more

Stopped by for lunch on the 4th of July with family. Had a large group and were quickly accommodated by our awesome server, Locke (sp?). Absolutely fantastic service and food, this place is a gem. Can't say enough good things about the service, he was just incredibly nice, made us feel welcome and was on top of everything throughout the meal. Absolutely nothing but good things to say about this place. My husband and I went here 4 times within 2 days while visiting Galena! The cutest place for a morning cup of joe, with the most gorgeous and delicious pastries. That also turns up at night with great espresso martinis and music. The focaccia on the veggie sandwich is to DIE for. Love the story of the husband & wife owners behind this establishment. I came 4 or 5 times during my stay ... ha! It's that good. The attention to detail and the quality that Eric, the owner, puts into it is inspiring! First, let's start with the staff, kind, attentive AND conscientious. You can walk up and order or you can sit down and be treated. Over several trips we enjoyed charcuterie, the cheese board, chicken ceasar salad, crispy pork belly tacos, smoked salmon and cream cheese with sliced hard boiled egg on a croissant, and my favorite.....cold watermelon salad with honey, mint, and goat cheese!!!!! The macaron photo dipped in chocolate sauce was what brought me there - turns out they don't actually sell that (odd to put it in the photos) so the staff did it for me as a surprise when I was bummed to find out they didn't actually serve it. Did not Disappoint!! Went back 3 times in one day!! Lol ...Had the croissant with strawberry and blueberry with cream cheese. Also almond paste croissant. Taste is heavenly!!! Also offer charcuterie and wine on top of breakfast sandwich and coffee!! I will drive the distance to partake again soon!!! The only thing I wish my cappuccino was less foamy and more coffee. Going here for lunch was actually our second choice as our first choice was unexpectedly closed. I ordered the Pork Ramen for each of us, and this is where our entire experience went awry. When our order was ready, our waiter David brought out one bowl of ramen with 2 spoons and 2 sets of chopsticks. By the looks on our faces, he could tell that something was wrong. We said that we had wanted 2 orders, and he apologized and stated that he had misunderstood. Quickly he ordered another bowl for us as we shared the one. After eating a bit, we realized we had no napkins, and had to ask for them. 15-20 minutes later, our second bowl arrived. We began eating that, and several minutes later our waiter brought over forks and knives, indicating that he had forgotten to bring them. I had to return to work, so my wife wasn't able to finish her lunch and asked for a to-go box, which was provided. When he presented the bill, David apologized again for the misunderstanding and said "he should have asked us about the order", and that "he should have known better". Silently, my wife agreed with both statements. Overall, we were very unhappy with the service we received. The food was good, but was pricey and nothing special. The ambiance was odd. Very small round tables and chairs crammed into a small space. Earlier diners seemed as though they were crowded together. We didn't order any dessert, but the baked goods looked yummy. We are in no hurry to return here. My wife said that the only thing that redeemed her time there was my company and the music they were playing. read more

First, this is not really a French restaurant. Don't expect French pastries except for macaroons. We had the quiche and Croque Monsieur with the goat cheese and pear. All of these items were wonderful! For desert we had the Tiramisu which was great too. The server, Loch, was super friendly and efficient to make the dining experience wonderful. I ordered a veggie sandwich and it was right up there with a sandwich shop I visited in Florence Italy. Flavor and bread very authentic! They also had yummy pastries that we ordered for later. My raspberry tart was so good! Service- we orders at the counter. Not knowing they also offered full service dining, we opted for take out containers. So technically "to go" customers. Sandwiches are good sized so just in case we couldn't finish and wanted to take back to the hotel. There was an empty table so we sat down to eat our sandwiches. We were approached by a waiter who hastily explains "you sit down, a waiter takes your order! You already ordered and if you are going to sit a server needs to take your order." He was very snippy and rude. My friend was a little taken aback at the way we were approached. So I explained very firmly that we were not aware they offered full service dining. His response "fine!" And he hastily walked away. Like I said, at first sight it looks like a deli, sandwich counter. We were still paying customers so I don't see why we were approached in such a hostile way. The place is small so the whole instance was a little embarrassing, as many customers watched the encounter. Passed with flying colors with the food. Failed with customer service. read more

My husband and I just randomly stopped in here because we were walking by. We instantly saw that they had sandwiches just like how they had in Paris. They also had amazing looking desserts. Even though we already had lunch, my husband got a sandwich and I ordered 2 croissants to go. Ever since I had gone to Paris and eaten their croissants, I had been ruined and haven't found anything like it since until today. OMG - the croissant is divine.
