Bought sunglasses from them! Wore them twice.!! Put them on and the ends snapped off. I brought them back to the store and they said "they looked like the broke from travel". Really in the same exact spot on each side.. not a product defect it's me. I walked out. Shame on them. They can keep the money.. clearly they need it. SMH. read more

For any surfer, a store like this should be a beacon on the hill. They have a great selection of boards and some knowledgeable folks there to help. A lot of people complain about the prices here, but I understand that cost have gone up and its not the stores fault (I've bought a couple boards here). When you consider the amount of work that goes into shaping and glassing a board, it's really not that crazy and it has little to nothing to do with the store. What really bothers me about this location is that they won't let customer use the bathroom. Now that I've reached the ago where I can afford whatever boards I want, I do expect a curtain level of customer service. If I spend $999. one a a board and they then tell me I can't use the restroom....that's just not cool. I need to drive 30 minutes to get to this place, than shop......If I need to pee, where exactly would BNW like me to do this? Not saying I won't return, but I'm a lot more likely to go to Eastern Lines now. read more

I shop their clearance rack every fall and always find something nice.

Cool store, pretty pricey but they do have name brands which is nice ! It's easy to get lost as well it's super huge!

Very wide selection of all your favorite brands for clothing. Pt. Pleasant store has the better selection of the two stores.

Can be pricey, but keep in mind it's a surf shop in a tourist town. All of the employees are friendly and always willing to help. They have a HUGE selection of clothing downstairs, and upstairs is the surfing section. I'm a big fan of the shoe Sanuks, and brave new world has the biggest selection in the area. Twice a year they have their "midnight madness sale" where all the off-season clothes are priced as low as half off! It gets very crowded, but definitely worth it. One of the best stores in town. read more

why do i feel like i'm being attacked from all angles by racks of clothing?! seriously, i can't imagine a larger person than me trying to navigate without embarrassingly knocking shit over. CROWDED. i'm told they have midnight madness sales at times, and i did see some decent dresses for 30% recently, as their fall items are now being displayed. read more

Super over priced. Take a picture of what you like and get it online and you'll at least get 20% off. Also certain employees come off very rude (some older guy) and there is so much in the store you can barely move around it read more

I do love this store but I was there in the early part of the no mask in public spaces rule. I had come a long distance and had tried on quite a few bathing suits. After settling on a suit and a cover up I went to the cash register to pay. I said, " I just need to use your ladies room and then I can pay" They said due to Covid they were no longer letting customers use the facilities. So??? I had some different kind of bad "juju" in the bathroom then I did in the store. I abruptly walked out and did not purchase anything. Traveled the whole country last year 13 months and 48 states including the whole pacific highway and still this is one of the best surf shops I never been to! Just a warning to other shoppers, Brave New World does not refund for returned items. They only allow for store credit. Think long and hard before you purchase. You'll get stuck with store credit that expires after a year. read more

Havent even been in the store, but had a very unpleasant encounter with the "owner" (supposedly). Was planning on dining at Surf Taco right down the street, but their lot was full. Looked for street parking to no avail, and noticed the lot that happened to be behind BNW. People were parked there, and we weren't sure if it was exclusively for BNW, but we didn't see a sign so we figured it was okay, especially because the lot wasn't very full at all so we didn't feel like we were gyping anyone out of a spot. As we're walking across the road to Surf Taco a random man, at least to us, and supposedly the "owner" of the property, tells us very rudely through his car window that we can't park there. Understandable except: 1. He gave no introduction, so as far as we know, he's just someone who doesn't know how to mind his own business. 2. No benefit of the doubt was given and he was extremely rude in making the demand that we move our car. 3. As annoyed as we were that we had no idea who this man was or why he was demanding this of us, we turn around and start heading for the car to move it. By the time we reach our car, this man has followed us with his truck back to the parking lot, stops right in the entrance to the lot, obviously waiting to make sure we leave. (Picture attached.) In disbelief that this man actually followed us into the lot when we were turning back to move the car anyway, we stood next to the car to see if the man would leave us alone and go on his way. He didn't. It would be one thing if we had initially continued walking to our destination and shown defiance, but we were compliant to this "random" man's demand, and we were STILL treated like we couldn't be trusted. This man is probably very busy as an "owner," yet decides to waste his time babysitting a pair of young adults to make sure they are doing what they are told, when they were doing so in the first place. My boyfriend (who was there during the incident) had told me good things about this store, but i will never step foot in there if this is how their associates treat people. It was not right how this man acted, it was humiliating, it wasted everybody's time, and most of all it was unnecessary as we weren't trying to do anything wrong and then went to fix our mistake. read more

Brave New World - Surfing Near Me - Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey

I definitely went through a phase of "I'm going to dress like a surfer chick and think I'm cool"...so literally my entire wardrobe was purchased here. It's a behemoth of a store. The bathing suit and coverup section is my favorite, and they have a huge selection of actual surf gear (wet suits, surf/body boards, wax, etc). As noted in a previous review, their Lilly Pultizer selection is great too. I still stop in here for bathing suits that aren't ordered from VS. I love coming here, it even looks cool from the outside. read more

Beware when you purchase anything from this store and return the item. They refuse to credit your credit card. They will only issue a store credit, which by the way, will expire one year from the date the credit was issued. Also my mother in law bought gift certificates for both my sons for Christmas. She paid cash for both gift certificates. Read the fine print at the bottom of the certificate. Gift certificates expire one year from the date they are issued. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio during the year. I have a home at the Jersey Shore and spend Christmas week and all summer there. My sons were both not here year round and therefore did not have as much opportunity to use these gift certificates. While we like the apparel and surf equipment at Brave New World, we are not happy with their credit/gift certificate policies. read more

Wow, whatta whale of a surf shop! Brave is two floors, the first floor devoted to every item Quiksilver, Ezekial, Element and Hurley produced this season for consumption by rich suburban-beach teens. Vast bikini section, hoodies as far as the eye can see, and a preppy princess area with Lilly Pulitzer etc. Upstairs are hundreds of surfboards, wetsuits, snowboarding gear, long skateboards, and boogie boards. They have a decent selection and the prices, while not low, are competitive. Brave also does board consignment, so you can sell your old stick and pick out another one, new or used. Used boards here are generally a good deal- but if you are selling one, don't let the boyz upstairs convince you to lowball your board. They talked me into asking just $400 on a gorgeous Stewart longboard, and I still regret it. Coulda got $600 on that thing. Packed with merch in the summer, and they do a huge clearance sale at the end of the season. Also wetsuit trade-in. The fattest fish of the surf shops in the region. read more

Went to go look for a dress for a wedding I had coming up with my daughter - who was bored after 2 minutes, so I went to the kids section to look for stuff for her. The older woman working there was not nice. Asked me if I needed help once and I said no thanks I'm just looking and then again 2 min later. The second time she said "are you sure you don't need help" but not in a nice way...Not sure what she thought I was doing, but sorry lady, I was just looking and distracted by my kid and trying to get her to not touch stuff she shouldn't be touching. I just said no thank you and walked away. I bought a cute outfit for my daughter but really your employees should be aware of their tone and how you speak to customers. I just left brave New world about 3 weeks ago My 70 yo father-in-law went to brave New world for some tanning oil. He was greeted and helped immediately unfortunately he can't hear well The girls then sold him a sum bum hair oil not a tanning oil that cost over $20. I then went over to return it now and was told that they don't do returns at all doesn't matter that I had the receipt in hand and they sold the deaf man the wrong product. No one cared about that I don't know if their employees are making commission or what but that's a pretty fishy way to do business. After starting a quest to find the perfect soft top to give to my daughter for her 6th bday I knew the challenge was rich due to odyseas being in high demand. Kyle & BNW went out of their way to help us find the correct board that they believed would come in on a shipment that ultimately did not. Kyle & BNW constantly kept up with his(their) promise of keeping us up to date regarding the status of the possible availability of this particular board via other avenues, ultimately identified a way of us getting it, and then (he) hand walked the board into our hands from the warehouse (post delivery from California) and said modestly "I just needed to put the face on the customer we've been speaking with for the last 5 months"... INCREDIBLE customer service that I haven't seen in 25yrs since I bought my last personal board from BNW (Kyle was likely a twinkle in an eye then...). I remember shopping at these stores in pt pleasant and toms river when I was a kid. The products are fine, not exceptional. The thing that bothers me most about both locations is the lack of consideration for the customer. The first one I went into I learned a great deal about how big the cheeseburger was that the girl got for 9 bucks but although there were only 3-4 people in the whole place not one employee even acknowledged me. Same exact experience in the second...I'm not a business owner but I run one and I can tell you by the run down appearance of the front facade these stores can't afford losing business. I walked in and walked out of both with nothing. I live in California and would have happily packed my suitcase full of cool nj stuff from these shops but I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

Miss what this store used to be. Now it's a whole lot of attitude and mediocre inventory. And their return policy is insane. The two stars are for the shoe department and one guy in men's department. Otherwise it would be zero. I've frequented this place whenever at the Jersey shore during the year and have wat he'd it go downhill slowly until recent when it catapulted into the ground. Terrible policies and customer service. Had a surfboard on hold and they would not let me call in a credit card to pay for it after my husband drove over an hour to pick the board up. In this day and age, what type of shop doesn't have a system set up to verify credit cards? They lost a few hundred dollars today and our business forever. read more

Bought a discounted new board here once, got it home and realized why it was discounted. The tail had a nice crack in it. Brought it back and the guy said, "You must have broke it." Almost didn't get a refund, the owner said "I don't know if I even want you buying another board here now." Was glad to not give this place my money. Yes they do have a huge selection of stuff but at a terrible price (pretty much everything there is). Also throughout my visits I would go just to look and you are lucky if the staff even acknowledges you and says hello. They all look at you like they're better than you. Overall It's a good tourist attraction but stick to your smaller local shops. read more

I bought a beautiful 9'6" Firewire Timbertek performance longboard from them. On my third time out, I split the nose down the middle. Naturally, I returned to BNW with the board. Understandably, no surf shop can guarantee a board against dings, but Kyle Murray and Chuck Garbe stand by their murchandise! They fixed the board beautifully, charged me a third of the standard price, and spent an enormous amount of time ensuring that I had the best experience possible. I recommend this surf shop. It may be a big store, but it sure doesn't feel that way. read more

This place is great!! From the huge selection of home, clothes, surf gear to all the really kind and humble people that work here! Got a killer deal on a great board ( al Merrick). The guy who helped me really took his time out to help me find the perfect board. I don't know his name but I know he has a son that works there. I travel often coast to coast and I'm originally from Florida and I Must say this is the best surf shop Ever! So glad great places like this exist! read more

The store policy is as follows; NO RETURNS, store credit only! I was going to purchase a really nice watch for my husband. I asked what the return policy is in the event that he didn't like it. The salesperson told me they have a NO RETURN policy with a store credit only. Come on, this is a ridiculous policy. I will never go back. read more

Solid staff at Point Pleasant. I made the mistake of buying two paddle boards at the Brave in Little Silver. Spoke to a guy (Chris) who knew his stuff so I went back a week later to make the buy. Chris must have had the day off so I got a kid who knew very little. He mistakenly gave me the wrong fins and when I went back to sort it out another guy told me the correct fins would require a special order. Went to the guys in PP and they sorted it out for me on the spot and hooked me up with a discount on paddles. I'll be going to PP from now on. read more

This store is the worst I wish I could give it negative stars. I tried to run in to grab a simple bar of wax and was denied entry. The store closes at 6:00pm and it was 5:45pm. They had an employee standing at the door not allowing people to enter. I politely told her I just needed a quick bar of wax (this would have taken 2 minutes max) so I could get in the water and she said sorry come back tomorrow condescendingly. The previous time I went there I had intended to buy a new board. I was the only one in the entire store. I was looking at boards for about 30 minutes and was completely ignored by the staff. There was what looked to be a 50+ year old dude working the counter hitting on a high school age female employee. I suppose their priorities are not in helping the customers. I have a million more stories like this from over the years. Go to Ocean Hut if you need anything. The owner will greet you and shake your hand when you walk in and talk to you about anything you need help with enthusiastically! read more

Biggest ripoff in New Jersey. Against my better judgment, I took my son there to get a button down shirt for picture day at school. We bought the shirt, then took a ride to Tilly's. We found the same shirt but with a 20% off coupon. So we got the shirt ten dollars cheaper. I went back to Brave to return the shirt and get my money back. I literally bought the shirt thirty minutes earlier, never even took it out of the bag but I was informed by the gentleman behind the counter that I could only get a store credit. I told the gentleman that I've never heard of a store just giving a store credit when someone is returning an item with a receipt, especially on the same day they bought it. Most stores will give a store credit if you don't have a receipt. He agreed but then pointed to a sign taped to the counter saying they can only give store credit for returns and said it is the store policy. Brave New World has ALWAYS had a reputation for being overpriced. I grew up in Toms River and I go out of my way to support local business, regardless of price but I will NEVER spend another penny of my money in that store again. read more

Total beast of a surf shop! Growing up my mom always took me here or to the Toms River location. Loved the midnight madness sales, probably because that was the only time she could actually afford anything back then. I remember their prices being at the very top of retail. It didn't seem to matter though because there was something about pulling up to that big brown wood building with surf boards hanging in the windows that just got me. Just a fun place to shop. We live in Florida now and you'd think we'd have a shop just like these all over the place down here but we don't. There's a few big chain stores down here but none compare. They're posers compared to this. There's just something about BNW. One of a kind for sure! read more
