The best kind of camp-Surf Camp! This is the fifth year a group of seven cousins have spent a week…read morewith Summertime! The cousins look forward to it all year! The water safety training is real, the atmosphere relaxed and the lessons last a lifetime. The crew is excellent- the coolest folks on the beach- the crew treat the kids like younger siblings. They guide them, rib them and laugh with them the whole time. Our group stays half day. Each half day is organized to include yoga, free swim, races and of course riding waves! It is safe to leave the kids and enjoy free time. It's also ok to take advantage of the great photo opportunities too! For four years our group was at the Belmar location. With Covid, the Town of Belmar was not allowing any vendor groups. Both locations were ideal, there is a large tent for 'tent talk' , relief from the sun, and to store gear. There are plenty of staff and adjacent lifeguards in both locations and Summertime is constantly aware of weather and maritime conditions. Rash guards (yellow or red for Kiki camp) and wetsuits and boards are all available to use on site! Dont hesitate, sign your kids up!

There's only one day that was canceled due to inclement weather. And they offered options to make-up the day. My son loves it and going back for another week in July and August.

My first session, we did basic stance on sand then we were in the water with an instructor who was pushing me onto waves. He just kept talking with other instructors and wasn't really teaching me anything. When I asked questions on form or technique he'd give me short answers in an agro tone. During one of the wave rides I fell off the board and it hit me in the throat and I was under water for a little. No one noticed lol not one instructor. Maybe because they were too busy talking about the surf spots like to go to. Second time my session ended up being on a day of a storm and the waves were insanely big. They still got us out into the water - I was scared since it was my second timer ever. I think it was stupid for them to hold the session instead of offering to come back another time. I could barely get over the waves and was flipped over multiple times. When I come out to Rockaways I always see that instructor I had my first session with and he acts super agro still. Maybe he doesn't like women bc he seems to get on with the guys. Don't know what the deal is but I'd recommend doing a session with a private instructor in the area instead of this school.

I really recommend going surfing in the Rockaways if you're looking for a fun activity to do…read more My biggest regret was not going to Rockaway Beach more frequently because of how accessible by public transportation it is.....it just takes a bit of time depending on where you live. I've surfed before, but wanted to try this school out since it's been a while and was unfamiliar with the waves. I did the $90 group package and it was definitely worth it. They provided the wetsuit and board, so all you had to bring was yourself. The instructors were super friendly and encouraging. The guy I had did a really great job of just simply explaining key points so you can get on your board and ride. The amount of time spent surfing is plentiful and you will have a ton of chances to ride nice waves. My recommendation is to google the wave heights and coordinate the best time to ride. Would definitely do it again, and I think for next year I'm contemplating on buying a 10-pack package so I can go more often. Surfs Up!

The water was 65 degrees, but with the wet suit they provided I felt comfortable the whole time. The board was a 9 foot foam top with three fins. Angela provided on-beach instruction on how to paddle and pop-up -- which was pretty quick, so we got right in the water. Andrew took us in the water and we started catching waves right away. He puts you in just the right position and gives you a push and tells you when to pop-up. We basically caught a ton of waves all day with tips on form throughout. Andrew is very nice and a pleasure to hang with. The waves were small, maybe 2 to 3 feet, but it was perfect for learning how to stand up and ride straight in to the beach.

Wow. I LOVE IT HERE. I'm a gal who prefers a more quiet, peaceful beach experience. I spent the…read moreday at Avon By the Sea on a weekday in September and it was perfect. All parking is FREE. Can't complain about that! There's plenty of street parking right in front of the boardwalk as well as residential parking nearby. Since I visited after the summer season ended, I had no problem finding a spot at 12pm. If you're going during the season, I would suggest coming much earlier if you want to get a good spot closer to the beach. During the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), beach badges are required from 9am-5pm on weekdays and 9am-5:30pm on weekends/holidays. It's $13 per person. Children ages 11 and under + active military and their dependents are free of charge. They don't accept credit/debit cards, so remember to bring CASH. The beach is beautiful - clear, blue water and clean, soft sand. The crowd is more mature and family-oriented. They do have a lot of rules (no alcohol/smoking/cannabis/canopies/tents/sound systems), but I don't mind. It's not rowdy here, so you'll have a peaceful experience. There are bathrooms, a playground area for children, and a boardwalk. The boardwalk is small, but charming. There are benches for you to sit, relax, and enjoy the ocean view. There aren't many restaurants, bars, games, or entertainment around. They have a snack/food pavilion, but I'd suggest driving a few miles away to Asbury Park or Long Branch for a better dining and night life scene. Seeeeee yaaaaaaaa at the shore!

Don't come here expecting to walk to a bunch of restaurants or bars -- it's more of a bring your own vibes kind of place. But they do have a snack shack, bathrooms, and the beach itself is really clean with clear water. Daily entry is $13, and there's lots of street parking, which is rare and amazing for beach towns. If you just want to chill, read, and enjoy the ocean without the crowds, this is the spot
