My three children (10,8 and 6) attended surf camp in Belmar last week. My kids are three very different personalities and very different in terms of comfortability in the water, so I was a little hesitant about putting them all in the same camp and having their needs met. I can't tell you how wonderful this camp and staff are. They were so good with kids and really took the time to make them (and me) feel comfortable. My kids went from not knowing a thing about surfing to trying to stand on their boards by the end of the week. I really can't say enough about the counselors and how impressed I was with them. My kids learned so much about ocean safety and surfing. The atmosphere of the camp is so encouraging and supportive to whatever level the kids are coming in at. What a nice experience. We visited Belmar a couple of weeks ago and my 8-year old son saw the stand on the boardwalk and got very interested. Later on that day when we were at the beach we saw a few kids taking lessons with different instructors and having so much fun. We decided to book on-on-one sessions for him for the following week and we did it online. The process was quite simple and the staff was so helpful and friendly when I called with questions prior to booking. My son LOVED the experience. Our instructor was Alex and he was great. Very down to earth and friendly. Making a very good connection with my son. He was very patient and engaged. Always going at my son's pace. We booked two private sessions and it was great. I see SummerTime posted at the end of my street in Asbury Park all summer. So, I thought, "Why not give it a try?" My instructor JD ran through basic postures for floating, paddling, and balancing before we went in the ocean. The waves were perfect for a beginner the day of my lesson, and it helps that they have big foamy boards to learn on. I was able to catch a few waves my first day, but not fully standing. The instructors were so relaxed and at home in the water, which was great. My only critique is that I could have used a bit more firm encouragement with standing up on the board. Not that I expect surfing miracles day one...but I know myself to be someone who responds to a good push. I hope to try again this season. read more

OK, so I have to say, I'm 50 and surfing was on my "bucket list". I was worried that they might not be welcoming or encouraging but this was far from the case. I had a simple less on the beach about waves and safety and before you know it, we were out in the water. It was less scary and even more fun than I'd anticipated. They apparently also have weekend workshops for women and I will definitely go. They say that one lesson is like a month of trying on your own and they were right! I got up 3 times in my first lesson! My instructor Tod (definitely a Boy of Summer) was also kind, which is really important for not feeling self-conscious in being a beginner. My daughter Gina wanted to learn to surf and why not we live here in Belmar she had the most wonderful experience and time of her life she said all the instructors at the surf camp were fantastic and fun she enjoyed it so much she went full day hand had one day of rain so they gave her a voucher for another day to come back and on the bottom of the voucher was either one make up day or 20% off another week well she enjoyed it so much and took advantage of the discount we went for the other week thanks summer time surf and all the instructors for making Gina feel so welcome and for teaching her to surf keep up the good work I will def tell my friends about you read more

I have wanted to learn SUP for a few years, finally saw the tent that is set up in Belmar. I called at 9 am for a noon lesson. At first there wasn't an opening for a pvt lesson, but within an hour I received word that they could accommodate me. Luke was my instructor and he was terrific! He was friendly and very professional. He showed me the basics, made sure I was comfortable and then led me out into the Snake River where we practiced the basics. He also shared interesting information about the area and the history of the Summertime Surf Company. I look forward to pursuing this sport more frequently. read more

We signed my son and daughter up for the week long surf camp at Ortley Beach and it was FANTASTIC!!!! They were up catching waves on their first day- and had never been on a surf board before! They could not wait each morning to go back and are begging me to sign them up for another week! I cannot say enough nice things about this program and the instructors! Each day was packed with surfing as well as lessons about the environment, time for stretching and safe ocean swimming instruction. I LOVE this camp and would highly recommend it to anyone with kids interested in learning to surf!!! read more

My 12 year old daughter just completed a 1 week all day camp in Pt. Pleasant. This was, by far the best camp she has ever experienced in her life! While she was exhausted every evening, she was ready to go the next morning. She learned so much and loved the surf instructors! She met a lot of great friends too. I think the only negative is....I need to buy her her own surfboard now....she's totally hooked! I highly recommend this company and these lessons! We took 4 lessons in Asbury Park with Peter and Brad, we were able to get the same instructors all 4 days which was very helpfull to us. We were 6 people of different ages who really wanted to learn how to surf, even after our first lesson we catched waves and on our 4th lesson we felt really stable on the board, so happy and pleased with our lessons as we really enjoyed our time with Peter and Brad and also got to learn a lot, which was what we were looking for and even more! These guys are the best. Just ended my third lesson. Been out with instructors Tyler, Wolfie, and Steve and each of them were very knowledgeable, safe, and the reason I came out here fun. Tyler had me standing on the board by the end of day 1. The length of the lesson is the perfect amount of time. Just as I got tired it was over. What a great group of people. Kids loved it! My son 9 and daughter 8. My kids are average swimmers / athletes, I was very worried they would have trouble carrying the boards and/or be overwhelmed by the skills needed, and would drop out after one day ( and I would have to eat the cost) but they had a blast! Enjoyed every day. Definite worth it, if for no other reason than to teach ocean safety and wear them out for the day ;). read more

Best camp ever! My son loves it. He's done 1-2 weeks every summer for three years now, and it is his favorite camp of the summer. The instructors are amazing, so encouraging, and really love the kids. And they really get them surfing, even the littlest ones! My daughter and nephew (both age 9) attended the half day surf camp last week in Point Pleasant and absolutely loved it! The counselors did a fantastic job of keeping the kids safe, and I didn't think twice about leaving them in their care. The kids loved the counselors almost as much as they loved learning to surf. This is the second year my son has done this camp. He loves it. The instructors are great. The time spent in and out of the water is awesome. The instructors make it fun and teach them about the ocean, fitness, and environment protection, but the kids are having so much fun they do not even notice the valuable lessons they are soaking in. read more

First time surfer...and what an incredible experience with SummerTime surf. I cant say enough great things about the staff. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and valued safety first and foremost. AWESOME experience with instructor Marilyn! Our first time lesson with SUP - she exuded a calm and positive vibe that made it very easy to learn. We went out at 7:30am and had perfect conditions. My daughters age 9 and 6 just attended a week long surf camp at the Point Pleasant NJ location! They had the best week and even my 6 year old was standing up on her first day! Had a couple of great one on one lessons in August at Belmar; it's easy to find, look for the yellow umbrella on the boardwalk near the shark river jetty. The instructors, Alex and Connor were great and patient with this mid-40s first timer! Couldn't ask for a better way to spend a summer Sunday morning in the water. read more

My mom and I had an amazing time! The company made it easy to set up the lesson and we did it all over the phone. The instructor was wonderful and gave a great lesson. Although the water was rough that day he made us feel comfortable and offered help whenever we needed it. We can't wait to go back! read more
