I often say, it is difficult to find a restaurant that isn't great in Berlin. Well, I managed to find one.
Expensive. For three (different) sausages plus mashed potatoes I paid just over 20 Euro. Half a liter of draft beer between 4,50 and 7,00 Euro.
I told the waiter I don't want any mosterd as I don't like mosterd. He said OK. Then when the food was served there was mostered on the only available free space on my plate (I needed that free space to put the mashed potatoes that came in a seperate small bowl. So I sent my plate back to the kitchen.
Also strange: the entire plate was covered with paper on the plate. Probably to absorb liquid or fat. When cutting the sausages the paper tore and I was constantly looking for paper sticking to my sausage. I never found some, but it was annoying.
They offer 4 0,1 liter beer samples for 7,50 euro. As there are 8 beers to choose from we decided to have 4, then the other 4 afterwards. With the second set of 4 and he waiter told us which was which and I noticed he had hade a mistake and given us one beer that we already tried again. We confirmed that when tasting it. He simply said we were wrong and had not been paying attention when we had the first 4.
The Internet was not working.
The bathrooms were clean
1980 and 1990 Rock music playing.
Altogether the atmosphere is strange here. Sure the restaurant decoration, seats etc are beautiful but that doesn't yet give atmosphere.
I think the biggest problem was the fact that a reservation was required (we had the only table available without reservation, and people. Came in and were sent out again all the time. Made made it silly, is that we arrived at 17:30, and when we left at 19:30 almost all of the tables were still empty. They could have easily given those tables to guests that were sent away before 18:00 o'clock.
When I tipped only 5 percent (10 percent is normal in Germany), the waiter didn't say thank you or bye bye, nor look at us anymore. read more
