Greeley has no business supply store that I would call truly "excellent." You might have to go to…read moreFort Collins or even Denver for true excellence, and of course you would undoubtedly incur high costs. Officemax is okay. I have to special order a few things, by mail. Officemax offers too few choices for some products - pencils, pens, pencil-sharpeners, staples, paper, etc. But overall, it's okay. I can nearly always get what I need, or a reasonable, if imperfect substitute. My concern is with language. Okay, it's a trivial thing for most people, I know. But my way of thinking is that Officemax employees should treat their customers as if their customers were respected business professionals. To that end, saying "Yupp!" in response to a question grates on my ears. Does the clerk resent my presence? Does she think I've hitched a horse up outside? Is she flirting, letting me know she's a reg'lar gal with no silly pretensions? Or is she just poorly trained? I'll go to Office Depot next time, and conduct an experiment to see whether their clerks say "Yes, sir," or the more cuddly "Yupp!" And now I hear that Office Depot and Office Max are under one roof, as it were. So how does "choice" and "free market" and "monopoly" work into that? Well, I get my larger ink cartridges at Staples. I've gotten paper and small supplies at Office Depot. I will continue shopping at more than one company, and buying more than one brand of products. Because I believe in choice. Months later: It looks like Office Max / Office Depot is on the way to reducing of changing their inventory lines, which creates an unpleasant inconvenience for us. Right now we are in need of an office supply company with stable lines of products.

I gave up on trying to email the papers because the internet was useless. I decided to purchase a couple of items, but there wasn't a single person at the check out stand. There was one gentleman at the computer service stand helping another guest, but he, nor anyone at the printing counter acknowledged the long line of people waiting to be helped for a very long time. I was about to give up and walk out when someone finally came over - while also arguing with the computer service person about the line. When they checked guests out, it seemed they were very inconvenienced by doing their job. One girl came in either from her lunch or for the start of her shift and immediately began checking people out without even putting her stuff down first, which was appreciated, but I did feel bad for her. My second visit was better as the staff were a bit more friendly thankfully. Overall though, it is certainly not my first choice in FoCo for office supplies.

We are thrilled to find a store that sells real wood furniture in a mix of styles and some with companies that can custom build with your choice of wood, finish, leg style, edge style, etc. We worked with Pete and Linda. The delivery guys were great, very careful with items.. True professionals, traditional quality service, great prices for higher quality furniture. Of note...while there may be some items that are good, better, best, the quality is overall higher than big box stores. Its very important to test the floor models out throughly to see if you like the feel of cushions, arms, back height etc. Some are made to be softer than others. We prefer harder cushions and straighter backs which is why we chose a custom Stanton sofa lounger. In response to Mr. GBCs post...yes if money is tight you can go to American Furniture and get cheaper items that will last only a few years. However if you shop at say Ashley or Sam Levitts, they charge thousands for poor quality furniture. The price with great sales offers I paid for soild wood furniture made in USA or another country was excellent for the item. To each their own.

Our personal style is more "American Furniture Warehouse" but in this case we did not find anything there that we liked, so we went to Woodley's and found several good choices. Our Design Specialist was Lisa Burwick and our delivery driver was Chris B. We chose MAVIN brand chairs, which were manufactured to our specifications and delivered in about five weeks (much faster than promised). Woodley's is a high-end store, and the products are high quality and expensive. They tend toward modern rather than traditional styles, but have a good variety. The products are usually manufactured to your specifications rather than delivered from their warehouse, and may take two or three months to arrive. Because they are made for you, you can usually get any choice of finish and upholstery. In-store service is knowledgeable and unobtrusive. This is a huge store and they had in particular a large number of dining sets.

I recently ran into some major RSI issues, so I was in the market for a number of ergonomic…read moresupplies and devices. I badly wanted to like and support this place, but sadly after attempting to buy something there on a few different occasions, here's why I never have: 1) It's rarely open. No weekend hours, no evening hours. They're 8-5 (8-3 Fridays), and holidays? No way. It took me a while to find a time to come in when I wasn't working and they were open. And even still, I was rushed out the door when 4:55 came. 2) The showroom is a mess. I came in looking at adjustable desks and ergo mice/keyboards, and they had a few models, but the one they were showing off was covered in keyboards, most not plugged in, and several broken and unable to be hooked up (according to the saleswoman). It looks like a great place to sit in chairs, but man, they're really not doing themselves any favors selling other things with that kind of mess. 3) Poor lead time on desks. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks to get a standing/sitting desk in stock, plus delivery. The same desks are available with 1 week lead time online through other retailers, with no Boulder sales tax nor supplier markup, not to mention a greater selection. And the return policy... 4) The Return Policy. I walked in willing to buy a Rollermouse and walk out, but unsure how it would fit into my workflow. I was willing to pay tax, to pay their markup, all I asked was the ability to return it in some reasonable timeframe if it didn't work. I was told, instead, that they have a strict "No returns" policy on electronics. So, I walked out instead, and did the Rollermouse trial through the manufacturer instead, paying a bit more for the privilege. (I ended up loving the mouse, for what it's worth). As I've said, I really wanted to like this place, and to support a local supplier of necessary products, and I'm willing to pay to support places like this. But I really felt like Kare Products was trying to make me buy online from somebody else instead. I can't visit the showroom after work, the showroom itself is disorganized and I can't try the products, I can't get the products in a reasonable timeframe, and I can't even count on them to stand behind their products with a reasonable return policy. These choices and policies systematically erased every single advantage that a local store has, leaving you with the same disadvantages of online, plus the markup and sales tax of a local store. Perhaps I just had a poor experience as a non-corporate buyer, but despite their niche and wonderful products, this place seems fundamentally lazy and stuck in the past. Here's hoping they fix that before the clock runs out.

The folks at Kare Products are a pleasure to work with. Both Craig and Karen have been in the…read moreergonomics industry for years and really know their stuff. I tried out one of their chairs at the Boulder showroom and had a life-changing realization about the importance of an ergonomic workplace.
