Used to be much more fun back the 70's 80's, when we were young and stupid (and happy to get cheap beer while watching a favorite band). Still have good brats and decent sandwiches, but latest stopover for lunch today was huge disappointment. Older waitress (who should've known better), hurried us paying the tab (restaurant wasn't overly busy), and then overcharged for beer (coincidence?), None to happy when this was pointed out, but rectified the situation promptly. 3 stars for food, 0 for customer service. Not every customer is a FIP lady. read more

Cheesy (no pun intended) WI tourist stop that's worth a visit. Cheap food and good (believe it or not!) Prime Rib. I've been there a few times and usually have had a good meal. Staff is usually pretty nice too. Would love to go there one night and check out the bands and have several beers - it's almost a college bar atmosphere. Deli and cheese store adjacent to the restaurant. Old time fun place. read more

The restaurant has yumtastic brats, fried cheese curds, and great sides [and so much more]. And because you're in Wisconsin, you're in New Glarus territory [so much happy], so get yourself a Spotted Cow and enjoy the amazing food. If you're looking to take some cheese and meat [and maybe beer] for the road, you might be disappointed if you're looking for a big variety and sometimes, well, the store is unattended and the service is spotty. For me, it's worth it to make the trip to the competing castle up the road for my takeaways [though I definitely think the Brat Stop restaurant portion wins by a mile, so if you must choose one, choose the Brat Stop!]. read more

My sister was such a raving asshole as a child we always joked we were going to leave her at the brat stop (hard "a"). Then she would cry. It was funny. This is a real traditional Wisconsin roadside attraction - in my eyes. Wisconsin paraphenilia everywhere. Lots of meat. Lots of families. Beer. Does it get much better than that? read more

This place is Brat Stop, as in bratwurst not as in a place to drop off your evil jerk of a little boy. Just saying. There were no little boys that I saw when I stopped in this afternoon, evil jerks or otherwise. There were indeed bratwurst. I got the cheddarwurst. It was good. The only problem is that it was left on the grill a little long, and was a bit too charred. When I ate around the char, it was quite tasty, and the roll that it was on was something approaching fantastic. I am told that they do not make their own sausage there, but Usinger's makes them for them from Brat Stop recipes. The fries were quite tasty. They seemed like they were lightly batter dipped, but I reserve the right to be wrong about that. They were good though. read more

Not inpressed. Brat was nothing special nor were fries. Cheese curds were average. Nice beer selection but that's about it. The store has a good variety of cheeses and beers - that's worth checking out although the prices there run a bit high. read more

Brat Stop - Great beer selection! - Bars Near Me - Kenosha, Wisconsin

I didn't have a chance to stop at the restaurant, so this review is only for the little mini mart connected to the Brat Stop. It opens every day at 8am and we were there that early on our way into Lake Geneva from Chicago. We came for the brats. I think it was about $7 for 4. We bought 8 - 4 jalapeno cheddar brats and 4 regular brats. We brought them to a small BBQ and they were a hit. We also bought some of the bacon cheddar cheese to serve with burgers. The cheese got really crumbly and didn't slice well, but it was delicious on a burger. I was taken aback by the sheet volume of new Glaurus, Leinenkugel's, and other WI beers. What a great way to showcase home state beer! If their brats are any indication on the restaurant, I would recommend heading here. read more

I really want to give it a 3.5 out of 5 star review. I have to give it an extra star since it was open on Christmas day and I didn't want to have to go and find a Chinese restaurant that day. It's my first time ever and I ordered a traditional bratwurst and fries with sauerkraut and the meal was good, but I didn't enjoy the pretzel bites because the nacho cheese tasted like Velveeta and the bites were doughy and not crisp but greasy. My husband had the cheddarwurst and he liked it. Service was excellent and friendly and their gift shop had all the goodies to take home and grill on your own. I would go again and would definitely give the cheese curd appetizer a try next time. read more

Check another one off the list... Many of my teenage friends experienced this iconic bar/restaurant when the legal drinking age in Illinois and Wisconsin differed by a few years. It was a popular Friday/Saturday night outing across the border for adult libations in the 70s. Although I never took the ride, I did so many years later to see a co-workers band play. Although their brat menu is the most extensive I've seen, they didn't wow me. The place is large with a number of rooms (TV at the bar, a dance club and, of course, the main stage) with a roadhouse type of feel. Stop in for a brat and a beer if you're in the area... read more

The service is terrible!!!! maybe it was just our waitress but it will make me not return.

The right rating should be negative 5 for this place. In the middle of pandemic, they show utter disregard for social distancing or wearing masks. I was appalled to see none of the employees in the cheese store wearing face masks. The stupidity of the owner of this place might lead to their employees or customers ending up with Covid-19 and long term health damage, and in the worst case losing their lives. I called them to gently suggest that they should at least wear face masks out of respect for the health of customers. The answer I got was "You have a choice not to shop here". I was dumbfounded. I feel sorry for the employees and customers of this store. I am never going back. read more

Mediocre food. Bad service. Ok, it's kind of a dive but that's part of the appeal, right? Been here a few times, but never again. Had a really slow waitress but the kicker was when I checked out. My wife and I finished our meal and got our check but were waiting forever for the waitress to come back. We noticed that they had a cash register so we decided to walk up front to settle up. I didn't have the cash before we left our table to leave a tip so I planned to take care of that when we cashed out. The front person took my money and shorted me $5 in change. When I brought that up, she said oops and slid my $5 that she already had out from in front of her register. It was apparent that she thought that we were going to skip out w/o paying a tip. The waitress was right there (where was she before?) and I handed her the tip. Very stupid and sneaky. read more

How can you not love this place?! Sure, it may be a bit pricey for a brat, but the reasonable drink prices and great atmosphere more than makes up for it. The brats are good, the cheese curds are fantastic, and there's something special about a place that has carpet on the booth walls. If you get bored, there is live music, arcade games and slot machines to pass the time. read more

Awesome, classic dive bar and restaurant that has good food and cheese. The place is fun and tacky, and also pretty affordable. The gift shop is great for all Wisconsin lovers, and even better for cheese. read more

Made a trip with friends to partake in the beer and brats. I had the smoked brat which had a subtle, smoky taste that did not overwhelm the taste of the meat. I was surprised by the quality of the toasted bun that came with the brat. No cheap, summertime hot dog bun here. It was an oversized, sub-sandwich quality bun, designed to hold the brat and sauerkraut, neatly, and without spillage. As far as appetizers go, the onion rings were good, as were the fries that came with the brats, but let's face it, the fried cheese curds were a basket of addicting awesomeness. Of course with all this Wisconsin goodness that one needs to eat, a suitable Wisconsin drink must be found to round out the meal. No, not milk, dairy is represented by the fried cheese curds! New Glarus Spotted Cow. A pale, but refreshing beer brewed by the locals and found only in Wisconsin (the Cheese-heads know to keep the good stuff to themselves). A pitcher of New Glarus Spotted Cow is good for about 1.5 rounds between three people, in a glass that appears to be 3/4 pint. As far as ambiance goes, let's put it this way. It's structure that screams tourist trap or truck stop with its oversized sign of CHEESE, but an impromptu count of license plates in our visit indicates a higher proportion of Wisconsin to Illinois plates. Inside, the place is a few steps above a dive bar. Stained carpet on the floor, seating that could use an additional wipe-down, and apathetic service by our waitress. But forget all that. If you're here for brats, beer, and cheese curds, don't expect white table clothes and fine silverware. After our meal, we took a walk to the store in the back, which sells various cheese and meats. It gave us a few ideas for future bbq's and get-togethers. The Pros: Good brats, beer, and artery clogging appetizers for a decent price ($18 a person for brat/rings/cheese curds/beer). The Cons: If you're a clean freak, don't look at the carpet. To Sum It Up: Within a few minutes driving distance of the outlet malls, I might make this a lunch stop when I'm in the area. read more

Seriously good brats. It's almost like the restaurant area is stuck in 1975. Great place to stop on the way to Milwaukee/Chicago, being located right off the highway. There is a very large bar and a huge stage with life music on the weekends. There's also a store the sells various cheeses and meats. Overall the service was good and management was friendly, read more

I want to like Brat Stop...I don't dislike it. I think I am more in love with the idea of The Brat Stop than the Brat Stop itself. Last week we went twice - none of us had ever been, both times were for lunch. We had always heard about it of course...while heading north we decided to stop. We ordered fried cheese curds. What to say? They were fried cheese. They were acceptable, certainly. I had a cheddarwurst...it was good, but about 3/4 of the way through, the cloying smokiness of the thing started giving me a pounding headache. On the way back a few days later, we stopped again. I don't know what I was thinking, but I ordered the cheese and turkey wrap. It came on an ice cold, bland flour tortilla, with cold cut turkey and a cheese that had the texture and taste of velvetta...I could only bring myself to finish half... Honestly, I should be giving two stars here - but, I take into account that it is still 1982 at The Brat Stop and perhaps I ordered the wrong things. read more

How do you know you're in Wisconsin? You'll probably be surrounded by cheese, bratwurst, and New Glarus beer - and the Brat Stop has all of the above. This place has good food (I ordered the chicken fajita sandwich), good service, and a good vibe in a big space that makes you want to stay a while. Next time I cross the IL border and am back in Wisconsin, I'll probably be checking out the Brat Stop. read more

Driving through Wisconsin on a sunny Fall Sunday, my parents and I pulled off for a bite to eat. Coincidentally, there was the Brat Stop, the same place that had samples at the Wisconsin Welcome Center when we passed through heading to Milwaukee on Friday. (It turns out that local businesses have displays every First Friday. The Brat Stop doesn't just have a display; they have oodles of samples available to nibble). We went in and had a great lunch experience. Packers game on television screens everywhere you looked. Despite the losing score, the crowd was upbeat and energetic. Fast service. Our server Kyle was very quick and friendly. 3 people, 3 different sausages (original bratwurst, polish sausage, and the cajun bratwurst). The German potato salad and red cabbage side dishes were great...and much better than their counterparts at Mader's, one of the best reputed German restaurants in Milwaukeee, where we'd just lunched the day before. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. The gift shop has a huge array of 'brat wear', beers, cheeses, and sausages. For anybody passing through Kenosha on your way north or south, I highly recommend stopping here for a taste of real Wisconsin. read more

This is a great place to stop for a true Wisconsin meal in between Chicago and Milwaukee. The cheese curds are really good as are the brats, and there's a great selection of draft beers. I was there once on a summer week night and it wasn't very busy, but when we went back for lunch this past Saturday it was really hopping. It looks like the locals like it as well as the tourists, which speaks volumes to me. read more

Absolutely "FANTASTIC" brat's. My Son in law brought me here several years ago and blew me away! Basically bought a combination of every flavor they had. I liked them ALL and really can't put my finger on a favorite! Have to always pick up some cheeses while I'm there too. read more

BEWARE of the really rude new bartender, the BIG fat dude with buzz cut & black glasses (he wouldn't tell us his name). We usually enjoy the tasty sandwiches & good tap brew at the Brat Stop, plus the friendlier bartenders & servers. He deserves to be fired, ASAP. read more

The best spot to stop for real food, great drinks (and onion rings), and great service. Kathy G took great care of us with a terrific attitude. Absolutely exceptional menu and some of the best brats we have ever enjoyed. So good were they, that after the cheese curds, we'd wished we had ordered two brats instead of one. Between the extensive beer selection and menu, we'll have to return again and again. We happened to be in here on a Sunday and witnessed the special prime rib being served to another customer, where after indulging ourselves in our own meals, our mouths began watering once more. We're also intrigued to try the grilled pepperoni they offer the next time we frequent the establishment. Special thanks goes out to one of the most personable, attentive, and hard-working bartenders we have had the pleasure to meet, Pamela. It's a rare instance we've had the pleasure to be served by someone like her. read more

Whereas I am from Michigan where we love our brats just as much as those from Wisconsin, I can never honestly remember eating a brat that was as good as what I just had at the brat stop! Awesome jalapeño and cheddar Brat along with sauerkraut and fries was just the ticket ....interesting place that would be a lot of fun to watch a game at. I will most definitely be back and or ordering brats to be sent to my home in Michigan. One suggestion however; because you have a big sign out front that says family is welcome, you might want to get rid of the condom machines in the bathroom not very classy for a family joint. read more

Truly a must if you dare to cross the border. A mini mart offers cheese curds, local brewskis, and brats to go, as well as cheesehead hats and other Wisco paraphernalia. The bar/restaurant is worth the experience. Like a grand old hunting lodge, it's cavernous and lively. The wurst is mouthwatering and you never know what surprise hair band from the 80s may randomly be playing. Go for the meat, stay for the cheese. read more

Lets be honest, this place is more of an adventure rather than a legit amazing best brat in the world kinda place. I enjoy it when im here but there is plenty of food that im not that big a fan of. Their brats are definitely good but they are not the best an in general this place is most definitely over priced. However if im in the mood and happen to be in the area, i live in chicago, then i will stop by. I always tell people its so good but looking back i am only mildly satisfied when i return. I feel that for the prices, you can find better brats and cheese curds for sure. The service is almost always great though TAKE DOWN THE HANGING BEAR!!!! i know its in fun, thats why i make sure my bears and cubs tats are showing when i stop in read more

The Brat Stop is a cool place to get really good bratwurst. The menu is pretty extensive, but I don't think it's necessary because why order anything but the brats? It's a touristy place that has a bar, restaurant, cheese shop, and trinket store. The service is good, I feel like my mom is bringing me dinner. I don't like how smoky it gets, though. It's a good place to watch sports on tv and definitely get the bratwurst. read more

Holy cow! The Brat Stop makes your local bar look like church and kindergarten combined. I'm going rapid fire off some of the things this bar has to back up that bold statement. Best bratwurst made into a brat burger, 2 golden tees, cheese curds, pictures from their 2006 Halloween party, Spotted Cow beer on draft, waitress named Liz in a Cubs jersey who said drop her name around town to get VIP treatment, a cheese curd store, an empty stage that probably rocks a sweet Candlebox cover band, locals, sports!, a picture of the bar from 1964 which was a corn field, lotto machine as if you could get luckier, beer coozies shaped like cheese, etc. you get it. Like every other restaurant, the last year or so has been troubling, and this has resulted in a lot of variation in service and food. This review is for a single reason so before that I will just mention the food was OK (one of the brats was overcooked). The date for this visit was Sunday, October 2, 2021. The reason for the review is for our server. His name was Kellz, I think that's what I could read on the ticket. This was the best service I have seen in years. Period. Hands down terrific. If you are lucky enough to get him for your server, just sit back, relax, and let him do his job. read more

We found this place last year on our way back to Kentucky from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. After trying their cheddar brats, we wished we had bought more. So this year we were heading back home from Yellowstone and decided to make a detour and get more. Unfortunately we were at a 11:45pm arrival pace and called ahead to see if they would still be opened. The cheese shop would close at 9 but the bar should still be opened until at least midnight. They left word with Mike, the bartender, and he gladly allowed us to do our shopping when we finally got there. Thank you for excellent service and the brats were so amazing!!! We will be back!!! I can't believe I didn't know this place existed, let alone was famous! I went there on my way to a meeting up in Milwaukee. Got a Brat, Red Cabbage and German Potato salad. Very authentic. Very delicious! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a glass of spotted cow. Seeing as I was there on business, I didn't feel it would have been appropriate.
