They are seriously the best. I have tried it all-expensive gym memberships, volleyball, tennis, soccer, sky diving, running. None of it holds my interest and none of it keeps me coming back. Pole dancing is different. If you want to feel like you haven't worked out at all because you are having too much fun (while secretly getting in the best shape of your life) then Brass Ovaries is for you! All of the instructors are lovely and take extreme precaution with new techniques to ensure that you don't injure yourself, as well as thorough warm-ups and cool-downs. The level system that they currently use also makes your first class much less intimidating. I have friends who were afraid they'd be expected to invert or climb in their first class, and are extremely pleased to learn that there is a set routine that will steadily get more difficult as the level progresses. But that's just pole! The twerk classes are a fun change and hoop classes really help to build upper body strength. My current favorite non-pole class, however, is Burlesque for Beginners with Sophie. This in-demand class features a prop of the week and a routine that is taught and performed start to finish each class, with a short improv period to work on breaking out of your shell. So fun! All of the instructors are extremely welcoming and make what could easily be an awkward experience extremely fun and a great workout! I love it here and couldn't recommend it enough! I purchased this as a Groupon and I had no idea what to expect. I had been thinking about new ways to exercise and this seemed like a good opportunity. I set up a class with a group of friends. When we got there our instructor was very nice and explained things and made me feel very comfortable. I definitely felt like i was getting a workout and used muscles I did not even know existed all while having fun! I would recommend the classes to anyone and I plan to go back. Visited this beautiful studio for a month as I was in town for work. Full-on fitness studio to satisfy your pole and aerial needs. They even have classes to enhance your aerial skillsets with stretching & conditioning. I had the pleasure of learning from Sarah and Lindsey -- both exceptional instructors who could spot you for safety and break down the moves if you're having a brain fart. I typically get bored with workouts after a month, but my friend finally introduced me to something that I won't get tired of. I've been taking classes since Oct 2011, and my only regret is not finding them sooner. The instructors here are super supportive, fun, creative, and most of all AWESOME. They will help you become comfortable enough with the pole/ lyra so that you won't hurt yourself during class and progress at a rate that you desire. I suggest taking a class with every instructor (since they all have different personalities) to figure out which one works best for your learning style. Even the regulars are friendly and don't mind offering their help when asked. For pole classes, space is limited since there are only 5 poles with 2 people to a pole. But don't let it make you think that you won't have enough time on the pole. The instructors will guarantee that everyone will have the same amount of time on the pole, along with trying poses/spins on both your left and right side. If you're having trouble with a particular trick, they will break it down for you and give each student adequate personal attention so that you learn it properly without hurting yourself or others (unintentionally). For pole fit, you get a taste of the strength required for pole dancing with a circuit training like flavor. It will also help build your muscles and improve flexibility as needed. Hoop/ lyra classes were my first love. I liked how the instructors broke everything down to feel so easy to the point that I could perform a mini routine of mounting, climbing, poses, etc, and then dismounting. I think the biggest thing for me was to get over the fear of flipping and learning to trust your grip. I definitely have a stronger lower body than upper body, so this allowed me to gradually build up forearm and grip strength while feeling graceful like a ballerina. Overall, these women have changed my life. After taking my first few pole classes, I have a new found respect for aerial performers, especially pole dancers. A lot of strength and flexibility is required to master difficult moves. I have become stronger, more daring, and more self-confident with myself. If you're looking for something to help you express your inner beauty and make you feel sexy, this is it! It keeps me coming back for more every week. Oh, and before I forget.... The schedule will change to accommodate high volume classes. Workshops with well-known pole performers (i.e. Natasha Wang) will be offered to get that extra edge. I've been going to classes at Brass Ovaries for over a year now. They offer so many different types of classes and it has transformed my life since I started! I was really nervous at first but they were so welcoming. I am in much better shape now, lost a little weight, and have more confidence and that is soooo rewarding. The instructors are amazing and the classes are always very supportive. If you can't do something right away, they give you modifications to help you get to the next step and stay safe while still building your strength and flexibility. I have an annual limited membership and it makes my average class cost less than $10 usually. Totally worth it.... if you consider even taking 2 classes a week, the cost is the same or less than any yoga or fitness class on a pass. And I have way more fun! For those complaining about cancellation fees...if you no-show, or cancel less than 24 hrs (brass ovaries gives you 12 hrs, btw) at any service-related appointment (massage, doctor, hair appointment, etc), most businesses expect you to pay a fee of 50-100% of the service for taking up their space and then wasting their time. Standard practice, folks. Most people know within 12 hrs if they'll have to miss. And of course they take special circumstances into consideration. Brass Ovaries is my home away from home. The staff is awesome and they offer more than just fun, sexy fitness. It's a family where everyone is welcome and uniqueness is encouraged. I love this place! Instructors are AWESOME and the classes are super fun. 3 things: First, I've only taken pole 1 (and graduated, yAy!). BUT, they have a variety of classes that look like they are enjoyable and a good workout. Second, the instructors are all cool. I've had a few different ones but everyone there is approachable and has a good attitude. They really make the classes fun and you lean a lot! Third, I didn't take off a star, but my only critique is that they are effing expensive. However, they do often have deals on Groupon! I would take more classes here if it were less expensive but my wallet just won't afford me any more pole lessons *sad*. Tip: if you have the $ and time, ask about their "fast track" classes! I'm doing Pole Fitness for a year now but only as a hobby. I was a prof. runner and this gave me something challenging and absolutely different and since I firstly touched a pole, exactly one year ago, I felt it love! Back home I teach pole Level 1 and 2 and I am a Advanced Intermediate. I'm in Austin for the whole summer and after a month being here, not touching a pole for at least 5 weeks, I got so desperate! I was searching for Pole Studios for at least a week. Send out emails and did some background information. Finally I decided to give Brass Ovaries a go with a monthly membership. And from the depth of my little pole heart I felt in love not only with Lindsey, Sarah, Sophie and Danae but the also with all my class mates. So, it doesn't matter if you're pole beginners, intermediates, pros or just trying something amazing and new like Hoop with Sarah, this is the right spot to go for a great fantasy fitness workout! I bought a groupon for 10 classes and haven't finished them out yet. It's hard to book a class on line when I want as they fill up super fast so not available a lot. I've attended the Pole 101 and Level 2 from that which was way better as less students attended. It's crowded and sharing a pole is frustrating even though sometimes you get so tired it's good for a break. The classes get a late start and end a tad early so really they are about 45 min. I've had several different teachers and some are better than others. It's an amazing workout and when I leave I'm sooooo tired and my arms feel like jello and I do a lot of upper body workouts aside from coming here. There are numerous poles, the smaller ones I don't get why they have them installed but great if you have small hands. It makes me want to get one installed at home to practice and work out with sans having to come for a class all the time or to work on the moves I've learned. I can't get to BO when they have the practice time so it has crossed my mind. This is a great place to go for what they have to offer for South Austin. Very challenging and yet fun. read more

Here are the classes I've tried so far and the instructors I've had the pleasure of learning from: Sultry Circle Hoop Dance with Shellie Loved this! It was an intimate group of 4 of us, but that meant lots of individual attention. I've NEVER been able to get a hula hoop around my waist more than 2 consecutive spins before losing it. I was able to master more than 1 size hoop (I learned the smaller the hoop the harder it is) going both directions. I could even move while hooping and I got the wrist hooping pretty easily. Now ankle hooping was a totally different story. I got to see some more advances moves from the veterans in my class which was inspiring. Shellie even showed us hooping while doing a walkover and then handstand. It was really cool and sexy! I would love to come back. Burlesque with Zaftigg She is an amazing teacher! Yoy learn a new routine each month generally. I came in towards the end of the month, but was still able to pick up the routine. She breaks it down so that even if you've never been to her class, you can jump right in. My favorite part is her empowering attitude and appreciation of her students. At the end of every class she has an uplifting message which ends the class on a high note. Pole 1 with Stephanie and Odette Stephanie was real laid back and funny. Odette was structured and about business. While very different styles, both were great instructors. I was super sore after both classes which means I got a good workout. There are so many other classes I want to take! I've heard good things about all of them. read more

I love Brass Ovaries! I started working out here in Oct and its a workout like no other. TWERK FIT is amazing! POLE is great for balance and grace and makes me feel so sexy. (Recommend Lindsay's classes for both!) Hoop 101 is amaxing for strength and grace training as well. I've tried other classes but thats my favorite 3 right there. Only caution: $10 to late cancel a class (less than 12hrs advance notice) and $200 to cancel an annual membership. So keep that in mind. But the studio is friendly, safe, fun, non judging, and positive. Love the staff too. Also, I appreciate the LGBT and all gender friendly attitude of the staff and the patrons. read more

The perfect bachelorette activity! Everyone in our group had so much fun!! If you book a private class they are very accommodating with time and day and even changed the time for us just days before. We did an hour and half of pole dancing which included very beginning pool moves mixed into a sex dance routine. Matthew was an amazing instructor and friendly person! He was so sweet and encouraging. He did a good job reading the vibe of the room and changing the route depending on how everyone else was feeling and what everyone was capable of doing. I was not impressed with their work ethics. If You pay for a class and miss it, they keep your money and also charge you a no show fee. I have never heard of somthing so absurd and it just goes to show their intentions as a company. They are also very pushy about getting you to sign up for more classes, which is very annoying because it seems like they care more about getting your money then actually Satisfying you as a customer. I wasn't impressed and they would not give me my money back. I ended up giving my left over classes to someone else. I was really excited about my membership and I would have been a long term customer. They have money hungry attitudes and bad work ethics they need to improve on as a company. I've been to 4 of them in the last 7 months & I commute 80+ miles several days a week to come here for various classes. The instructors & my fellow classmates have fostered in me such a love of Pole for fitness & fun, & have impacted my life in so many positive ways, that if I'm visiting a friend in another city, I'll look for a local pole studio, so not to miss getting my dance & workout on! I'm 38 & Never before in my life have I sought out exercise on vacation, or planned other activies around fitness classes. I do now. Over a holiday break or while out of town, I get so anxious to get back to "my" studio & all of the Ovaries. I started out at another studio in Austin. I wont knock their place; it's a beautiful facility with different types of womens' workouts, has at Least 1 great pole instructor, who did her best with their substandard, not-made-for-poling galvanized steel pipes you'd get at a hardware store. They tear up your skin & hinder any kind of progress beyond intro beginner stuff imo. If learning pole and/or aerial hoop in a safe, professional yet FUN & comfortable environment (from the coolest, best instructors & performers) is your focus, this is the place to go. Most recently, 5 women from this studio entered & were all selected as finalists to compete in the 2011 statewide competition Miss Texas Pole Star in Dallas. They brought home 1 runner up, 2 wins, & took home the Ultimate Miss Texas Pole Star Title crown (congrats Brynn & Brass Ovaries!) Whether you take classes from Brynn, Sophie, Ariel, Lindsey, Sarah, or Miss Natasha herself (who taught Them & even a few things to some of our nat'l champs, btw) be assured you're learning from the best performers & most skilled instructors out there. I am a 38 yr old plus sized mom of a teenager, with body conscious issues, a lack confidence & esteem, low motivation & extreme dislike of exercise. I lost my "sexy" long ago & was in a general rut. Pole 101 & beginner general group classes are fun, will still leave you sore as heck at first, or if you're supershy or very serious, one on one private lessons are available. When you get to Intermediate level (doesnt take long folks, even if youre out of shape & do Nothing else for fitness) is when the major fun begins. Its acrobatics, gymnastics, beautiful spins, way up in the air & cool upside down maneuvers. Pardon the infomercial-esque tone of the following review: I am an on-again-off-again moderate to hardcore athlete. Most recently, though, I had gone over 6 months (eek) without a stable exercise regimen (unless you count watching myself dance in the mirror while I get ready... I did...). I got the groupon for the limited month and made the commitment to use the full 15 I was allotted; it was fairly easy. The classes offered here range from choreographed pole, interval kick-butt fitness drills, aerial, flexibility, and, one of my favorites, twerk fitness. I have had great experiences with most of the instructors and highly recommend Erin (incredibly personable and responsive to individual needs) and Lindsey (the twerk-master). I definitely knew, 2 weeks into the groupon, that I would need to get a membership. I'm stoked to have found this studio (that I've been telling myself for months to check out)! I also have to add - being in customer service for a small business, I appreciate the lengths this studio goes to to both get and retain students. They actively ask for ongoing and honest feedback.
