Every year, Ballet Austin has free classes in January called Get Fit to introduce people to their classes and also inspire physical activity. I love and appreciate it so much, especially because you can sign up for more than one class and really test the waters. I've done it every year, trying different classes and I've never regretted it. Intro to Pilates is hard but in a good way, Ballet is certainly not my jam, Bollywood is a super fun class that will leave you sweating with a smile on your face but my absolute favorites are the Weights & Resistance and Strengthen & Stretch classes because of the intentionality with mind and body work. Anyway, I love Ballet Austin and definitely recommend taking classes there.

Upon meeting Joan, I instantly knew she was something special. Even after 25 years of teaching dance, she still has that sparkle in her eye and passion when she speaks about her love for dance education. She is a wealth of knowledge, and connecting with her on a professional level was such a joy. Joan's approach is rooted in the belief of teaching the whole child from a conceptual standpoint, and is one that has been carefully crafted and put together to create something magical. Our young dancers, ages 3-7, were fortunate to attend a master class with Joan at our studio. Joan's imaginative and playful approach had the children absolutely enamored and engaged the entire time! The parents who viewed the class were in awe of how she was able to relate to the children, and the teachers who viewed the class were in awe of the way the class seemed to flow so effortlessly and while keeping a calm and loving demeanor.

I signed up my 3 year old and a week later (2nd class) the instructor (Joan Wolfe) said to another student "thanks for your help with Olivia she is so bad" Olivia is my daughter. She must of noticed that I was listening because she came right up to me and said "your daughter is not ready for ballet, is she in school?" From what I saw of the class, my daughter acted about the same as other students except she was violently jerked off the metal bars on the sides of the room and put in her place which caused minor bruising of the skin. After she physically assaulted my daughter Joan Wolfe saw me looking and patted her on the head but my daughter is very upset at the way she was treated and the awful things that were said about her right in front of her and the rest of the students and parents. I can't believe Joan Wolfe has so many years of experience doing her present job. She must hate her job.

She is so wonderful with the children

Miss Wolf is a spectacular Ballet teacher! My 4 year daughter Brooke enjoys her class so much! Miss Wolf is so creative with her use of scarves and glitter flash lights! She has a true gift with children. She is professional and extremely poised. I highly recommend this class. Miss Wolf honors each of the tiny dancers individual spirit. Miss wolf is an excellent teacher!

Tony can teach any dance such Salsa , Bachata, Two Step, Swing, and Argentine Tango etc. so it was nice that we had a choice when picking which style we wanted to dance to. My fiancé and I had no previous experience with Salsa dancing, but Tony made it so easy for us to learn! He taught us the basic connection principles and before we knew it we were doing many different types of and dips and tricks at an advance level. You will leave Tony's dance lesson not only feeling more in-tune with your partner physically, but emotionally as well. He has taught us many valuable dance lessons and life lessons in the process. Our time with him was always enjoyable! I would also like to add that we did this during the COVID pandemic and Tony's space was always sparkling clean, hand sanitizer available at all times, and he always wore a mask. Made us very comfortable. I am so excited to show off our new moves during our wedding dance. I HIGHLY recommend Tony for anyone interested in dance lessons! You will not be disappointed!

Tony was incredibly rude toward me when I attended my first dance session with him. The other students were more helpful and polite than the instructor himself. I'm not the most coordinated person. I'll admit that and appreciate any person's patience when teaching me a sport or activity that requires a decent amount of coordination. I believe I was learning Polka or foxtrot at his class, but I was struggling with getting the coordination down since I was a first-timer. Tony was going about making sure that the students were on the right track. He looked frustrated that I wasn't getting it, and finally started to berate me. He asked me: "Why don't you understand how to do it correctly? Can you not understand English?" I was stunned and furious to say the least. He wrote me off as a foreigner unable to understand English based on looks instead of being patient like a teacher should be. I'm a native English speaker and was born in the US, unlike him, but saying something hurtful so casually like that wouldn't be acceptable even if the person wasn't a native English speaker. I've heard that South America had horrendous racial tensions, so I could see that Tony brought its racism with him when he came to the United States. If you're not an Anglo or Hispanic person, and don't have any experience with dancing, then expect Tony to say something rude when you don't understand his dance lessons on your first try. I excused myself and went to cry in the bathroom for a few minutes for the poor treatment. Then discreetly left the building. Lo and behold, the man had the gall to follow me to my car! He even positioned himself so that I couldn't slam my door without hitting him. He started advertising his other classes, and gave half-hearted encouragement since I was a beginner. As far as I'm concerned, the "encouragement" was too little to late when he burned a bridge by criticizing my English listening skills. I won't try learning how to dance again thanks to this man even if it's for my own wedding.

I stood there for a moment trying not to interrupt, but when she finally looked up she seemed visibly annoyed, almost like a "what do you want?" expression. I let her know I was there for the Silks class and she told me to go to the building across the parking lot. The interaction felt pretty short and awkward. Aerial Silks is already intimidating if you have no experience, so having this type of first impression really made me question if I even wanted to patron the establishment. That said, the class itself completely turned the experience around. Ashley, our instructor, was fantastic. She was super patient, encouraging, and kind. Aerial silks can be intimidating if you're new, but she made the class fun and approachable. I ended up having a great time and almost forgot about the front desk interaction by the end of it. If the front desk experience had matched the quality of the class, this would easily be a 5-star review. I would definitely come back for Ashley's class, especially now that I know I can go straight to the other building.

My daughter (age 3) has attended four different classes with different instructors as we tried to find the right fit for her. As a shy new student, I expected at least a minimal effort from the teachers to help her feel welcomed and included--but that has largely been missing. In most of the classes, there was little to no effort to engage her, encourage her participation, or help her feel part of the group. Even in the few classes that had student assistants present, they did not step in to support her or offer any guidance. In one instance, my daughter needed tap shoes (which are available in a shared bin for those without), and rather than assisting us, the student assistant pointed me toward the bin to figure it out myself--something that could have easily been handled more supportively, especially for a brand-new child. Another serious concern is bathroom access. My daughter is still potty training, and after a 45-minute drive to get to class, we often urgently need to use the restroom upon arrival. To access the bathrooms, however, you must walk through two active classrooms, which feels disruptive and uncomfortable. On one occasion, it took us over 10 minutes just to get into a stall, which meant missing a significant portion of class while awkwardly waiting in a hallway right next to an ongoing session. Overall, I'm very surprised by the lack of accommodations or support for young children and new families. It's disappointing because I had high hopes for this studio, but at this point, I'm not confident that it's the right environment for us and we have already put in our 30 days.
