If I could leave no star, I would. Not too familiar with bars on the St. Mary's Strip but this was apparently the place to go on Sunday. We were looking for somewhere to just hang out (group of 8) and we took an Uber to the Brass Monkey from downtown. Had I known we would be treated like garbage, we would have stayed at On the Rocks or Soho. The security staff and San Antonio Protective Services were way too aggressive. We had no idea we would be "padded" down or have our purses checked so when my boyfriend walked straight to the front door after getting his ID checked, they grabbed him inappropriately and moved him to the line to get padded. We told the door guy that he didn't have to grab him like that (nicely albeit) and his immediate reaction was, "Well, I don't have to let you guys in" ... The door guy is the first person you see walking in and the last person you see walking out. If you hire someone with no social/customer skills, even as a door guy, then you have a problem. From other reviews on this page, it seems these guys are on a power trip because this is the place to be on Sunday. This is no reason to treat other people with a lack of respect, or like shit. With $2 you call it, you are attracting a certain type of crowd (hence the padding down and checking women's purses) but train your security staff to treat people like you would like to be treated - in general. This door guy, with a Cowboys hat, also called me a bitch but it was well deserved after I yelled and disrespected him (after the fact). I will also add ... The Brass Monkey is owned or managed by a very paranoid New Yorker who has newly implemented as of in 2013 an Airport type search of customers coming in to the club TSA style, Male customers are required to pull up there shirt, turn around show your underwear line and flip out all your pockets by order of the Management(The owner). Females purses are searched through by uniformed private Security Guards(ladies hide your feminine hygiene stuff) rudely the uniformed security will tell you if you don't like it you can leave and Tattooed customers may be turned away also and stereotyped for having too many Tats(funny the club is next to a Tattoo parlor, go figure)customer service is horrible at the door. So artsy crowd avoid this place if you don't want to be put through a humiliating search and have your privacy invaded. For a much better time visit the many other clubs on the strip and pass this one up as customer service is low and you will get the Inmate treatment by the door staff, a very bad impression for tourist and locals no other club on the North St.Mary's street club strip would dare humiliate you this way ! I give this joint an E-minus, skip it ! If you want to be treated with respect and not like an Inmate and strip searched skip it ! This place rocks, loved the Dj and he was very upto beat without playing the same tired music from the radio or other bars, the bar staff was quick and very no nonsense ... I completely understand, because this is a speed bar; it's not the place to try and talk their ear off. I read these other reviews, sorry but I'm a bartender and I know a smooth machine when I see one! Ceasar the bartender had dreamy eyes and a great ass, and Jeremy the bartender was quirky and sweet. People are quick to complain these days. Don't let these drunk people talk smack, you can't please everyone ... Highly recommend this place for cheap drinks and dancing ... Wow the dancing! If you're looking for a truly uninspiring crowd of nervous creepers standing in a big circle looking at the empty space in the middle of the dance floor, then this is your haven! The doormen/bouncers seem to be ex-gangsters. I assume this is part of the reason for a surprisingly foolish dress code involving no white t shirts and no necklaces on sunday. They hold people up and create a huge line starting at 10, when the bar is not at all crowded inside. expect at least an hour wait, for a mix of hits you'll likely hear at your neighborhood Chilis. if you have the desperate urge to revisit that awkward dance party in your middle school cafetorium then I promise you'll love this place! read more

THEY LET ASSAULT HAPPEN!!!!! I've been coming to this establishment for years, every time an altercation happens we will report to the bouncers and security and NOTHING IS DONE! Some words are exchanged and they are still able to buy drinks. Drunk culture is no excuse to assault someone. Because, they didn't see the exchange happen, they'll pretend it didn't happen. When they watched on security camera of my friend being assaulted they did NOT A DAMN THING! It's on camera and they'll turn a blind eye. They have bartenders with neck tattoos, play music of artists with neck tattoos , yet a person with a neck tattoo can't come into an establishment with no explanation? Literally the most disgusting place I've ever been in my entire life. They are classist, racist and sexist, and they do not give water which is dangerous because of the drinks they are serving are absolutely poison. I have a friend who is lovely and sweet they did not let in because she has a small tattoo behind her ear of a sailboat and they wanted to tell her that it was gang affiliation when it was absolutely not, your money, save your sanity. They are Nazis. Don't try to go to the bathroom or they'll kick you out. They must be on double secret probation for overserving since there are at least 5 constables on premises. I wasn't even buzzed, went to the bathroom near the front of the bar, and upon exiting the bouncer accousted me and summarily threw me out. Visited Brass Monkey's $2 anything night after watching Devin Thompson at Paper Tiger. I encountered the inevitable line at the ladies bathroom, which is always dreaded to find a very professional and efficient employee of brass. It took less than five minutes to get in and out of the line. His name was Austin, and he was kind, courteous and professional. Typically you don't find this level of service here. read more

Upon entering, get ready for a strip search and Pat down similar to entering a maximum security prison. Wasn't like this years back. They used to play just 80s 90s new wave, goth, punk, pop. If you're looking for something to do on the weekend in San antonio, you've come to the right place. friendly staff, cheap drinks, and a party atmosphere. they always have great events.
