This place is great! Please do not judge this location by its outside appearance/location. Once inside the outdoor seating walls, you no longer feel like you are in a not so pretty part of Stamford. I have eaten here several times and each experience has been great. The food is moderately priced and the entree portions are very large! Also, a great added touch, they serve plantain chips with their homemade salsa, rather than the traditional tortilla chips. There is always a specials menu, serving a variety of all types of dishes, entrees(meats, fish, poultry), salads, apps... Absolutely wonderful! My family and I love going there and we always get their arepas and I always get their shrimp dish with avocado! Yes, it is pricey so we unfortunately don't go there daily, but when we do, we always have the best service and food! This place is one of my favorite restaurants! The food is delicious and fresh, the drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is great - especially in the summer with the open-to-the-street bar. Happy hour here includes 5$ tapas and $5 cocktails (try the Caipirinha- a yummy brazilian cocktail made with cachaca) and $3 beer from 5-7 (I went to the Norwalk location a while back for happy hour and they said they only offer drink specials for happy hour :/). I always get the Arepas con Pollo, empanadas or guac with plantain chips for an app, the chicken and rice for lunch or the Chaufa de Pato (duck) for dinner all of which are phenomenal. Brasitas consistently delivers delicious food as I've been here several times. My latest visit was with a big group of friends and we had upstairs level all to ourselves. Menu offers plenty of Latin dishes. While munching on plantain ships with salsa (delicious), I knew I wanted steak, but was torn between hanger and skirt. I'm a sucker when it comes fried egg so I went with skirt steak (Bistec a Caballo). The dish didn't disappoint. Portion was just right. It came with rice, black beans, sweet plantains, and fingering potatoes. Steak was cooked perfectly (I prefer medium). Flavor was excellent, meat was tender. Absolutely happy with my choice. Great combo pairing it with a mojito. For main, I went for the grilled bass with a tomato capar sauce and rice. Fish was perfectly cooked and well balanced by the sauce. Sometimes the food is outstanding but other days... not so much. Had a little bit of a back and forth with a waiter; we ordered specifically the bottomless sangria ($15 per person) and was brought a jug of it. Assuming that's how they did things we continued to drink and even needed a refill, so we had to flag a waiter down since they never came to check on us. When the bill came, we were being charged for two carafes of sangria at $35 each ($70). So I pointed out the mistake in the bill and he said that we ordered both carafes but why would we pay $70 for two carafes instead of $30 for bottomless? The waiter reluctantly got a manager to take 1 of the carafes off of the bill. Typically, the five dollars would not matter to me but it's the principle of it so I complained that we were being charged incorrectly. He says to me, "it's basically the same". This was our best dinner experience overall on our recent trip east. It was an incredibly fun evening with incredibly good food and probably the best sangria I've ever had. Maybe those all go together in one package but I'd like to think each part was stand alone good. Though incredibly packed inside and with a very tight parking situation outside, we scored both a space on the street and a table inside. Good start. The serving and bussing staff were so very nice and informative as none of us had been there before, and efficient without being intrusive, and plentiful.The sangria was made with a good flavored rosé, lots of assorted fruits and very drinkable. Share the pitcher, its worth it! The three of us shared several small plates, that actually turned out to be not so small. My favorite was the ceviche, packed with squid, a fave of mine. So fresh, so many flavors. We also had the free starter of the plantain chips and salsa, along with the mussels with smoked linguica sausage, the spanish style flatbread with assorted field mushrooms, mahon cheese, black truffle and aged balsamic drizzle, and the house salad with Baby Greens, Sevilla orange, shaved fennel, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese croutons, pomegranate vinaigrette. It was a ton of food for 3 people but entirely too good to waste any. We tried the dessert described as donut holes but they were a bit heavy and dry, the sauce too sweet, but then again, we were already stuffed. I hope I have a chance to eat here again. Two girlfriends and I stopped in for what happened to be brunch on a Sunday. First off, I've lived in Stamford for 23 years and have been dying to come here since forever and my first experience did not disappoint. The inside is beautifully done, we almost felt like we were transported to a different place. The walls were a warm orange and the colors of the blue cups complimented it so well. The bathroom is absolutely gorgeous with its marble washing bowl. They had unlimited mimosas and sangria for $16 and reasonable priced drinks. Two of us ordered the chorizo egg Benedict and another ordered the salmon plancha. The food was delicious and before they bring you're food out they give plantain chips and salsa. Brasita's Cuban food is perfect for suburban pallettes I don't want even think food with too much seasoning. This is kind of like the Olive Garden of Cuban food. If you're looking for authentic, Miami style Little Havana Cuban food, you going to have to go into NYC. I learned the hard way! I was so excited to see a Cuban food restaurant with all the great ratings so I loaded up on everything from empanadas to main dishes. The empanadas were a thick dough that tasted like canned biscuits. I've had a lot of empanadas from real Cuban grandma's, but I've never tasted anything like that in my mouth before. The best thing going for the restaurant was the plantain chips and salsa dip. That was absolutely delicious! The appetizers and other food.. not so much. The food really tastes like someone using a Cuban style cookbook versus someone who really knew what they were doing by nature. This is a must-eat when I'm in the area for work. The food is fantastic and they always have really interesting and delicious-sounding specials. Plantain chips with a homemade salsa are complimentary and are just to die for. The salsa is a little spicy but I still love it. I almost always order the Arepas Con Pollo to start and they are amazing and perfectly portioned even if you aren't willing to share them (which I'm usually not). My most recent entree was the short ribs and though they were a tad overcooked, they were still delicious and the manchego risotto is a perfect compliment. I have had a number of their desserts and all are great but my favorite is the bananas. The atmosphere is great. The dining room is on the smallish side but never loud and would be great for a date or dinner with friends. Reservations have never been necessary, but I've only been during the week and not a Friday or Saturday night. The one downside to Brasitas is the parking situation. It is valet only and there sometimes is not a clear spot to pullover to turn over your vehicle so you are partially blocking traffic. That being said, the valet is the sweetest man and is always running around rearranging the cars to make it as easy as possible. read more

We were traveling from the Midwest when our car broke down. We decided to eat here after our car was fixed across the street because it was close and had 4.5 stars. There are outdoor tables in the outdoor patio, which is surrounded by a low wall. Inside, there is a small bar that seats about 7-8 people. There are 13 indoor tables that seat between 2-8 patrons. It's cozy without being crowded, the decor bright without being garish. First, yummy fried plantain chips with salsa were automatically brought to the table. We had the pollo curry caribeno and the camarones Al ajillo which were perfection. Even my picky 12-year-old loved the food. The mango ginger virgin mocktail was greatly enjoyed by the kids. For dessert, we had the torta de tres leches topped with house-made guava sorbet, and the crepes filled with dulce de leche with fresh berries and vanilla ice cream. We all inhaled the food. My kid fought me off with a spoon when I tried to taste his dessert. The food is incredibly flavorful. Like other Spanish food I've had, it's salty, so be aware if that is a health concern for you. As of this writing, appetizers were $8-19, entrees $27-36, desserts $10-12. If we lived here, we would be coming every week. Stamford doesn't always have the best ethnic food scene (do you call pizza ethnic?) but if you want to go ethnic, go for Latin food. In that boat, you have Brasitas which makes all of the lists in local publications and has been on my life for a while. I came here on a date with my husband around 730 on Friday - the restaurant is small but we were able to get a table right away. When we left, it was pretty clear. To start, they give you complimentary plantain chips and salsa. Yum. We're in the burbs, so they do that sort of thing. We then ordered some delicious chorizo with fava beans and sofrito... it was a red pepper sauce of sorts. I also started out with a glass of red sangria, which doesn't seem boozy at all at first, is much more fruit juicy than wine-y but it sneaks up on your quick! Very good, could be less sweet for my taste. For dinner, I ordered the very popular shrimp dish which came with large shrimps, a romesco type of sauce, wilted spinach and flavorful yellow rice. Yum. My hubby ordered med-rare carne asada, it pretty good, not the best but far from meh, which came with really delicious chorizo, beans, and mmm fried yucca. We then shared a delicious tres leches (super soaked in the milks, very creamy), which was th perfect size with carmelized banana and a guava sorbet and flavorful Colombian coffee. The food's in the 20s, so it's not the cheapest but not the priciest either. You do get good portions. My only grip was the service - our server kept trying to upcharge us; my hubby's watching the extra calories and had to refute wine more than once. Also... I wasn't 100% done with some of my dishes but he was super quick to take them away. Granted, I should have said something but it was like super quick... and awkward to say..hey I'll finish that sip of sangria.. or hey.. there's some rice still there. I'm Asian, we don't waste food. I moved to Stamford a little over 2 years ago from a heavily populated Latin city in NJ and Brasitas has been consistently hitting the spot whenever we visit. Their mojitos and spicy margaritas are always fresh and flavorful. The appetizer we usually go with are the mini arepas con pollo that come with a crema and guac dressing - bite size but they pack a punch!! For entree we usually get the churrasco and each and every time, it never disappoints. It looks like they finished a lot of the decorating on the walls so it looks fresh and new. I love it. I love the cozy ambiance of this small gem of a restaurant. The food was good, but not among the best of the Spanish restaurants that I have been to. They also do work hard to provide good service. One of our steaks came out well done, and they brought out another one. I ordered sangria - and asked for it twice - but it never came out, so I gave up. When the bill came, the sangria was included. When I pointed this out, they apologized and also removed another drink as a courtesy. So while I was upset that they forgot my sangria, they did make a strong effort to recover. My first visit to Brasitas was about 10 years ago and it was amazing. All i could remember was how flavorful their rice was, how delicious my meal was, and how passionate the owner or cook was about their food. It was delicious. I recently took my gf here to give it a try because she was craving ceviche. We made reservations and arrived 10-15 min early. We waited patiently since we were early and its not their fault that there wasnt a table ready for us. What was frustrating is that even after our scheduled reservation, we still werent seated. They were very busy but that is why i made a reservation. Finally after waiting 30-40 min we were finally taken to our table. This place has changed a lot. I remember when it use to be a small mom and pop restaurant. Now its more of a fancy and classy place. Our meal wasnt anything memorable at all. We came for the ceviche and when we got it i was asking to myself where the rest of it was. It was such a small portion and it was just okay. Glad to see Brasitas is still in business and its busier than it was 10 years ago. I am not exaggerating when I say that everything was delicious! I started with a white Sangria which went down way too easily. I could have imbibed at least 2 more (but did not). Some highlights: the Mariscada Caribena, which is a seafood feature that seems more like a Thai panang dish; and truly delicious! Me, i would rather have these plantains than the best tortilla chips in the world, delicious. Skipped appetizers because we ordered another order. My wife and i ordered the Sangria and a Margarita, which were both good sized. For entree we ordered the Carne Asada. It was served with chorizos and mushrooms and brussel sprouts. The pre fixed lunch is pretty solid for the price, and both entrees I tried were excellently prepared and presented.
