Was craving some steak and eggs for brunch one day and stumbled upon Brasitas on Yelp. When we pulled up, we found ourselves back in the Caribbeans. The exterior of the restaurant resembled those you would see in the tropics. We also walked in to be guided and served by men in linen white shirts and pants, giving us an even more relaxing, beachy feel. The waiters were extremely friendly and met all of our requests. We started off with a bowlful of complimentary plantain chips that were freshly fried, lightly salted and sided with some nice salsa. So driving back home this place is close to the highway and sounded like great food so we stopped by. Walked in and business seemed good for midweek. The menu is nothing like the menu in the pics. The price difference is off by about $10-$15 more. Idk what that was a price of, maybe lunch. I got the paella and it was good, nothing spectacular. Some of the shells were cold, idk how it's prepared but someone didn't heat the shells all the way through. My daughters steak was good, even though she asked for medium rare and it basically came out well done. hubby wasn't really hungry so he got the tacos which he said were good we also got the guacamole which was good. The churros was more like one churro cut into 4 pieces with chocolate dip. They were good but overpriced. The curry chicken is my favorite. I usually go with a big group when I go. My friends love the pork chop. Drinks are usually really good too. The Medellin Mule was very tasty. Just note, there is little parking, it's on the pricey end, & service can be a bit slow. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. I've been to the Norwalk location several times and thought it was finally time to check out the Stamford location. The parking situation is terrible! They have valet, but there is no regular parking lot, and the restaurant is located on a street that has minimal parking unless you're willing to walk a bit / having good parking karma. Diner be warned! The restaurant itself is very cozy. Love that they have gluten free options listed. The plantain chips brought to your table are fantastic! Our server didn't even introduce herself. I guess she thought our bill wasn't going to be worth her energy because she displayed 0 personality the entire time we were there. Overall the food was good. Fantastic experience at Brasitas in Stamford. We had dined outside on a nice cooler July night. The arepas with chicken were so good my date and I re-ordered after we had it as a starter. The other starters were fantastic and delicious. Very beautiful plating we were extremely pleased and talk about going back often. Margaritas were on point and after dinner espresso martini was a perfect way to end a wonderful meal. Brasitas is definitely my favorite Spanish food. It's consistently good and the servers are attentive and very nice! They're super helpful if you have any questions about anything on the menu! My favorite dish there is the salmon. It's so crispy on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside, cuts like butter! The rice is FLAVORFUL and the guacamole adds great color and contrast to the dish. The poblano corn cream sauce, is creamy and delicious as well. The cabbage on top adds a nice crunch! Overall an amazing dish I CONSTANTLY crave! Tonight, I tried the shrimp al ajillo because I saw it on someone else's table and the shrimps looked big & flavorful! I'm so glad I ordered it because the shrimps were cooked great in a nice sauce with perfectly sautéed spinach and yummy rice! Ill definitely be switching between this and the salmon from now on! Wow what a letdown disappointment. The high price of the dinner menu is as high as your hunger when you leave after eating their tiny portion sizes. They became well know, and then a victim of their own hype. They seated us 20 minutes late even after I made a RESERVATION hours before and double checked it with them 1 hour prior to. Honor your reservations and time!! There is a big price discrepancy between lunch menu main dishes $15-$20) and dinner $25+. When I got there for dinner there was no entrée affordable compared to most restaurants in Stamford. Instantly regretted my decision to come here - I looked at lunch menu and missed the dinner, so my mistake when I was shocked at the difference. So my friend and I shared 3 appetizers +1 main meal only + 1 alcohol glass (1 glass each)--- cost us $90 with tax and basic tip all in for 2 people!! I went broke financially and left the restaurant hungry. (I'm a tiny 5'3 girl weighing 97 pounds who doesn't eat a lot, for context). The good - the food is flavorful and artistically created, really a feast for the eyes, just not for the stomach. The staff is also nice, but not necessarily high quality of service. From what I heard it used to be really good - big portions sizes, good prices, but then it changed and became "upscale" = fancy tiny artwork on a plate that is not enough to feed a child. Reminded me of my (unpleasant) restaurant tastings in France where prices are sky high for miniscule amount of food because ingredients cost a lot there. Besides that, small parking lot is valet only, unless you're willing to parallel park far down the roads on the packed residential streets around in front of random houses... if you get lucky and find a space, ha! Everyone from the hostess that greets you to your waiter to your server and bus person are all so nice. the food is done just right and the staff is not shy about giving you their recommendations. We've been many times, this past Saturday night we were joined by three friends and it was really just great. Oh we like Brasitas! The outdoor bar is super cool - I've not seen anything similar in Connecticut. I love the sangria and the lunch specials are great. I came to Brasitas for a baby shower and had no idea they had an upstairs. That's so good to know in case I ever plan a get together but it is comfortable enough for maybe about 30 sitting but who knows how many standing (which is great). The salsa was like a pico de gallo with a bit of zest to differentiate it from other traditional pico de gallo, I loved it. For my entree I had the Cuban wrap. For my liking, it was a bit underseasoned, I added salt. My coworker asked for a side of their hot salsa which was delicious, I added that as well. Throughout, the service was excellent. Ummm yes! So amazing. I need to start coming here more often. First off, they have amazing decor, and I love their table arrangements. I came here with a friend Saturday night and we had a 10 minute or so wait for a table, so we grabbed some delicious mojitos at the bar.I normally go with their Sangria since this is one of the few places that the sangria isn't made too sweet, which I greatly appreciate. We were sat in a cozy corner, and our awesome server came over. I noticed that he was basically taking care of the fully packed restaurant and still on point, so kudos to that man. I inhaled my amazing mojito, so he recommended the Spanish Mule as my follow up drink, which was delicious and refreshing. Coming from a picky mule person, as noted in some earlier reviews, I was pleased. They brought over fried plantains and salsa to start you off with that, is so good that I was dreaming about it the next day. Actually, at 1 am as I write this review, I'd really love some. They do charge you for a refill on that, so don't over indulge, my fellow Yelp foodies! We opted to share the Empanadas as an app-- they are unlike your normal empanada... They are hand-rolled chicken, pork, and steak, served with a creamy guajillo aioli. These are also on their happy hour for $5 fyi. For dinner, our server recommended the Pollo Caribeno with Curry. This was AWESOME. It had sauteed chicken in a coconut-curry sauce, chilean raisins, chopped celery, yellow rice (yum), and a side of sweet plantains. The plantains were a tad hard this time around, but I have had them here before and they are the real deal. I definitely recommend Brasitas for a date night or girlfriend happy hour. It's one of my favorite spots in Stamford where I still feel like I can bawl on a budget. Decide to head here for dinner since we were in the area and man was it a good decision. We were immediately served plantain chips and a nice tomato based dipping sauce which was a great house starter. We order the chicken arepas which again were great. For our main course I had the Filete de Lubina which was as followed (Pan Seared Branzino, Pesto Ristoo, Avocado-Grilled Corn Relish, Roasted Pepper-Smoked Chile and Fennel Sauce) The fish was cooked to perfection the Risotto although flavorful was a bit undercooked but not enough to send back. My girlfriend enjoyed the Costillas de Res, Albarino and Herbs Braised Beef Short Ribs, Manchego Risotto, Oven Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Zucchini and English Peas. The meat was so tender looking at it to hard would make it fall apart. We believed it may have been prepared in a wine reduction sauce which would go well with a good glass of wine. Her meal also came with risotto which was also a bit under cooked but still good. I love Brasitas. I don't exactly remember how I first stumbled upon this little latin american place but I'm very glad I did. The outside decor and location is not exactly where I would expect a restaurant of great quality meals to reside but hey you can't judge a book by it's cover! I like to come to Brasitas in the summer time with friends and family so we can all sit outside and enjoy our meals under the umbrellas and candle light but anytime is a great time. My favorites off the menu are the empanadas and quesadillas for an appetizer, the Ensalada de Aguacate (salad) and for my main meal my favorite is the Pollo Caribeno al Curry (caribbean chicken with coconut curry sauce). The banana chips and salsa they give you when you first sit down are AMAZING. Ugh yum so good. Bring your appetite! Brasitas is the type of place where it's best you don't eat the entire day just to save room for everything. Your best bet for parking is Valet. I know it's not everyone's favorite choice but with the limited parking (especially on such a narrow street) it's just a safer choice. Either that or you can park your car at blockbuster across the street.
