We really enjoyed this place. We went on a Saturday night at 7:30pm. For a table for 5 people the hostess had to ask permission for us to sit. We got permission to sit and had really good food. I did eventually ask why the hostess needed permission and she said because they are fairly new that the chefs couldn't keep up with the orders and having 5 people might put them behind again. One recommendation I suggested to the waitress to tell the manager was to get changing stations for babies. None in women's restroom. I know they are expensive to buy but changing a baby on the floor is really unsanitary!! read more

First visit - went on a Friday night with about six people. Mostly looking for drinks but we wanted to sit at a table together. The tables were great - nice quality wood tables and they didn't wobble which is always nice. It was pretty busy inside but not packed, world series was on and there were a ton of large HD TV's so everyone could see no matter where you sat. Gloria was our server and she kept up with us - checking in frequently. We ordered a bunch of wings and planned to get some other appetizer type food but let me tell you, these wings are massive. She warned us that they take a good 20 min to come out but that it was worth the wait, it was well worth the wait. In fact, if ever I want wings again at home I'll be ordering from here for carry out. At a dollar a wing, best value ever. We all wondered how they get wings so big if that's any indication. They had pot roast sliders which I'll try next time - everything was very fairly priced. Driving home from work a couple weeks ago, my wife and I noticed that a restaurant had opened in the long-vacant outbuilding near SeatGeek stadium...and that it was called "Branding Iron". We both remember the original Branding Iron location, tucked inside a bowling alley on 95th street in Oak Lawn. Last night we decided to stop in and try it out. The decor is relaxed and rustic, with a large wooden bar just inside the door, and with a mixture of high and low square tables, all seating four. The lights (at dinner, at least) are turned down low and there's ample screens along each wall (with a larger one at the end of the bar) for watching sports. Service was quick, and we were presented with - yes - DOUGHNUT HOLES!!! Hot and tasty, just like the Branding Iron of old. These were awesome. The menu is varied and extensive, with everything from salads to the Branding Iron ribs (yes, they are THOSE ribs). My wife selected the chicken pot pie and I had the "Black and Bleu" burger with a side of chips. We both also decided to sample the cream of potato soup. The soup was tasty, and wasn't the usual thick white stock with potato bits. It was more of a "Yukon gold" color, and was quite savory. My burger was done to a perfect medium, as ordered), and was accompanied with what tasted like house-made chips and some EXCELLENT cole slaw. My wife's chicken pot pie had an accompaniment of a house salad, which included a celery stalk (nice!), seasoned nicely and with French dressing. The chicken pot pie itself is large and served in a neat ramekin with a small oven mitt over the handle, so you don't burn yourself. The texture of the pie was drier than others I've seen, but quite tasty with the usual mixture of peas and carrots. I must admit that the crust was a bit undone on one side and could have used a bit more time in the salamander. There's an extensive beer and wine menu, with a nice selection of draft beers (even Guinness stout!!!). We opted for a coke and iced tea. I learned that the restaurant is owned by one of the families that had a part in the original location. We'll be back to try out more of the menu, and to grab more of those epic doughnut holes. One note - enter from southbound Harlem via gate N1 of the stadium. Otherwise you need to navigate through the parking lots of Seat Geek stadium to get here. My wife and I went there on Saturday December 16th. We each had a half slab of ribs. To say they were awful is an understatement. They were over cooked and dry. We told the waitress. She told the cook and that was as far as it went. There was one other copule who left a short time after we got there. Other than that there were two people at the bar. It is by the hotel I stay at and it's not absolutely terrible but the food just isn't that great. The service was not the best either. The server I had was on her first night alone and in tears because the kitchen kept getting things wrong and she had to deal with the customers. A table close to me had their sandwich sent back a few times and it even came out cold one time. I definitely recommend finding somewhere better. I had a pulled pork sandwich and it was not very good at all. Just tasted like it was frozen meat that they warmed up and threw some gross BBQ sauce on. My sister booked a my niece's Sweet 16 Birthday Party at Branding Iron. The party was booked many weeks ahead of time. My sister went to the restaurant to set up for the party around 4pm. Mind you the birthday girl was to arrive to the venue at 5pm. The place was filled with smoke, there were dirty plates, left over food on the tables, the floor looked like it had not been swept all day. Needless to say, Branding Iron management had forgotten about my niece's party. My sister The staff did not know there was a party of almost 50 coming in an hour. My sister quickly sprang into action. She wiped down the table, clean the floors, and tried to get the food going. There was not enough food to feed the guests. There was not enough rice or tortillas for the meal, and not enough silverware. My sister called the management. They new they dropped the ball, but still, they did not bother to come out and rectify the situation. At 8:30pm, half an hour before the party was to end, here comes a person to collect the payment. The party was almost not happening, say you can't come out to help when things were in chaos, but you show to up to collect the money?????? I have never been in an establishment where they forgot you booked a party and did not come to help figure out what is happening. I am not sure how this matter will be handled, but all I know is that this is not right. This venue is not organized and absolutely not helpful even if it is their mistake. read more

Went o. A Saturday around 5pm. The place was pretty busy so we sat at the bar . First bar tender was awesome. I'll give her 5 stars. 5 being the highest. Then they changed shift. The food and service here was overall excellent. Our server came back at good intervals and always made sure we had enough to drink, and was super courteous towards us. The free donut holes they give were a nice treat, and the appetizers we ordered (Carolina egg rolls and chicken quesadillas) were both hot and delicious. Went here expecting food to be shitty based on other reviews. Walked in on a Friday night, a band was performing that night which was great, we found a table for our group, got it cleaned off and sat down. The place is big and airy - one big space, big bar in the center, outdoor seating too with a firepit going on this chilly night. The service was slow and forgetful, but this place doesn't have enough staff. We waited for drinks, we waited for food, we didn't get silverware, never got cups for the water pitchers they gave us when we arrived. Our waitress was sweet, but there were only two or three waitresses for the crowd and maybe that would be ok if they were super seasoned multi taskers but they may not have been. The food was average, at best. Better than I expected for the sandwiches we ordered, although one dude got fish and chips and I was glad I didn't. If Management would hire sufficient, efficient staff along with an extra busboy because nothing dirty left our table all night (3 hours, 10 ppl), this place has a chance to be good. read more

Looked at the menu and that was now changed and not for the better. The bartender cones over to our tables and tells us they don't have the margaritas they had on special any more. So now. Branding Iron - Chicago BBQ Review There are some things in life which stir the soul; a first kiss, the birth of a child, and having phenomenal BBQ. While I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur, I can tell the difference between off-the-charts-good BBQ and mediocre BBQ. My palette was honed while I lived in Texas. Some may argue BBQ from the Carolinas, or Kansas City, or Tennessee could rival Texas BBQ. Argument aside and because we could spend days debating those subtleties of regional BBQ preference, the thing most people would agree on is Chicago is not capable of making good BBQ... and yet my search for delicious BBQ in the Chicagoland area continues. Today I tried Bedford Park's new BBQ joint The Branding Iron. Prior to the visit, I researched the menu. It was very promising to see they had 12 hour-smoked brisket on the menu. They also had short ribs, rib tips, and other items you would expect to see on the menu. Not just promising, it also stoked my excitement. I could bypass a BBQ joint not having cornbread or banana pudding, but at least they did have sweet tea. When I arrived, I already knew I was going to have the 2 meat, which meant, of course, brisket and ribs. The cool thing about The Branding Iron is they serve you donut holes, which, if you went to a CPS, tasted a lot like the Superdonut. When the food arrived, a colleague's food was served first. She had also ordered brisket and my first impression is it looked really dry. When my food was served, it looked dry as well. Visually, it just looked off for BBQ. But, you can't judge a book by it's cover, right? So I brushed it aside and tore into my two-meat treat. Brisket was dry and cold. It tasted like brisket but lacked something which fires off the fireworks in the taste buds like other brisket has in the past. The ribs were no better. The weren't sizzling hot and also seemed to have one thing missing. It's difficult to describer verbally, but numerically, I would say it was a 4 out of 10. If you're from Chicago, I would say Famous Dave's is better, and that really tells you something. I guess I should mention some positives; the macaroni and cheese was excellent. My friends also raved about the homemade potato chips. Oh, and they don't have a happy hour, but the bar looks nice. Two things, aside from mediocre BBQ work against The Branding Iron; first, it's too expensive. The menu has items of lower cost, such as burgers and sandwiches, but you go to a BBQ joint for the BBQ. Second, it's ridiculously difficult to get into. It sits on the south-bound side of Harlem Ave. and can only be accessed if you're coming from the North; or if you arrive by helicopter. read more

Since I got this with Door Dash I have to rate it a star higher than I want to, to be fair. I got a full slab of ribs, which they only gave a half slab. No big deal I got the credit for the other half. The ribs had a good flavor and were right up my alley, requiring enough pull to get it off the bone but still tender.
