This review comes 1 year after my service to give the company ample time to rectify the situation. I took my car to Brakes Plus in Wylie on Saturday, January 18th 2025, and spoke with Hector about repairing my brakes and checking a red fluid leak I'd noticed. Hector said they could look into it but wasn't sure if a mechanic would be available that day. Later, I was quoted $1,173.69 for repairs that required the timing cover to be replaced, including fixing the leak, and was told the car would be ready that afternoon. When I picked up the car, Hector mentioned that the timing cover didn't need replacement and that the valve covers and gasket had been replaced instead. I didn't drive the car the next day, but on Monday, January 20th, I noticed the same red fluid leak again. I called and was told to bring it back the car on Tue when the mechanic was available. On Tuesday, January 21st, the mechanic (they would not give me the mechanics name) diagnosed it again and replaced upper crush washers, assuring me that since this was a repeat issue, I wouldn't be charged. However, when I picked up the car on Wednesday, I was still charged for the service, even though the issue was ongoing. When I spoke to the mechanic, he said to make sure to bring the car back on Thu because that's when he's working again, to make sure the seal was holding correctly? This is when I was worried because you only had 1 mechanic that can do the job. Told me to come pick up my car on Wed afternoon. On Wed Jan 22nd I picked up the car in the afternoon and then was charged for the service after I was told that I didn't have to pay since I had to bring the car back for the same leak. I paid for the car and went home. On Thu Jan 23rd I was notified at work that my car was leaking in my assigned parking lot. I called Blakes Plus when I got after work and spoke to Ricardo and he stated that if I could bring it today, but I couldn't because I got of work late that day and that I could bring it in Friday afternoon. By Friday, January 24th, the leak was still there. I returned and spoke to Caleb (Store Mgr), who then stated he thinks it was the timing seal which was ruled out from day one. He inspected the car and realized the fluid was antifreeze -- the same issue I originally reported back on Sat 18th. When I told him that, he gave me the "deer in the headlights" look. At that point, I lost confidence that they knew how to fix the problem. Caleb refunded part of the previous service and told me it was "best for both of us" if they didn't continue working on my car. After multiple visits and charges, the original problem was never resolved. While some staff were polite, the overall experience was overwhelmingly disappointing. I left feeling like my time and money was wasted, and I would strongly caution others to find another service company. Angelo (Regional Mgr for Wylie, Garland & Rockwall stores) was no help. He stated that everything that I stated in this whole ordeal was true, but that he believed his staff was truthful as well? A full week of me reporting the leak and Angelo's was neutral in this whole ordeal, until the end. Angelo offered $250 refund in which I denied because of time work missed, Uber's and clean up required in my garage and workplace due to the leak, I requested a refund of $423. Angelo was upset with me for requesting that type of refund. After a couple of days of this back and forth, I went back to Angelo for the original $250 because I wanted to get past this, Angelo said that the deal was no longer on the table and for me to do what I needed to do. Very unprofessional establishment. An establishment that has one mechanic that can do the work on his schedule, Caleb who's dishonest from the start and Angelo all need to be re-evaluated in the position they hold with this company. read more

I called and made a same day appointment with Hector. This was the best price I could find in my area. Once I arrived Hector greeted me and checked in my vehicle. My vehicle went in the service area about 30 mins after I arrived. The brake flush took about 30 mins. I was in and out in about an hour. read more

Dishonest management, chase misdiagnosed my car said it was an O2 sensor it wasn't. It was a catalytic converter that needed to be replaced. In long the long end I paid for something that never needed to be repaired. read more

I have been into this Brakes Plus twice and both times I have received excellent service! Les has been great both times. This last time the new manager Jason & Jake took care of me! I voiced SEVERAL concerns for my used car that I purchased and instead of trying to sell me everything Jake made a point to let me know that they would check everything out first, we would go over their findings and then we could prioritize what needed to be done. Turns out the price wasn't too bad so we did an alignment, oil change, tire rotation and some brake work. They we're able to get everything I NEEDED done!!! When I got home that evening I had a tiny mishap, when I called Jason the next morning I was able to get the car in and out! Jason made everything right & explained EVERYTHING to me! My car is running smooth and I will continue to come here to receive the excellent service! Being a woman most times these auto shops will try to upsell and throw jargon around that is way above my knowledge. I can come in here with confidence that what I need is what I'm leaving with. 09-21-2023 - UPDATE - Changing from 1 star to 3 stars: After I posted up my review - Brakes Plus corporate reached out to me (or at least asked me to reach out to them). I called and shared with them the discouraging experience I'd had. Within 24 hours I received a call from Angelo Medina (the East Texas Regional Director). He let me know up front that they would be refunding me the $140 that I overpaid. He shared that he'd listened to the audio of my phone call & just as I shared, I had not been given the options. He apologized & facilitated the refund. I'm thankful that someone took ownership but still a bit frustrated that it took me over a half dozen phone calls & required me to type up this LONG review. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~ REALLY DISCOURAGED WITH THIS STORE. Last Thursday (9/14), my wife & daughter went to Brakes Plus in Wylie, TX (1800 FM 544, Wylie, TX 75098) to get the brakes changed on our Nissan Rogue. My wife dropped the car off and asked the staff to call me to talk through what the issues were with brakes & to approve repairs. They called a couple of hours later to let me know that the car needed new brake pads on the rear wheels, new brake pads & rotors on the front wheels & it could probably use brake system flush. I asked for some additional details & then moved on to the "what is this going to cost me?" question & received a total of around $770. More than I was hoping to spend, but what was I going to do - I'm not the brake expert. I approved the work to be done & a couple hours later, they called to let me know that vehicle was ready to be picked up. When my wife arrived to pick up the car, she saw that Brakes Plus offers two brake services - economy ($149.99) & premium ($219.99). She then realized that'd we'd been charged the premium & sent me a text indicating that she was a little surprised that I'd go with the premium option (b/c that's not what I typically go with in these types of situations). I shared with her that I had not been told there were options. They never informed me that I could choose between the two levels of services. This was really discouraging b/c it cost me an extra $140 & by failing to share with me what my options actually were, I felt like I'd been misled / lied to. I called the store that same day & asked to speak to the manager (Caleb Bauman). I was told he wasn't there & would call me the next day (Friday, 9/15). Around lunch time the next day, I hadn't heard from him, so I called the store, got a hold of him & explained the situation. Shared how discouraging it was to not be given the options & that I felt like I'd been taken advantage of. I shared that I wanted a refund that would get me back to the cost of the economy service. He shared that he would need to speak to his boss (Angelo Medina) & would call me back later that same day with an update. Around 5 pm the next day, after not receiving a return call as promised, I called the store again & no one answered. About 15 minutes, Caleb called back. He shared that they were not going to issue any refund b/c I'd authorized the work. Again, I explained that I wasn't contesting that fact - I was trying to address the fact that they didn't give me the options I needed to make an informed decision & as a result - I spent $140 more than I would have. I asked to speak to his boss (Angelo) & he said he would have him call me. It's Tuesday, (9/19) & not surprisingly - no one has called me back. I'm pretty frustrated & discouraged at the utter lack of customer service. I have a large family - we own five vehicles - that's 20 different wheels - each one requiring brakes. They are willing to throw away my business over $140 by not simply doing the right thing. They could have totally redeemed the situation & kept me as a customer by simply owning their mistake. Something as simple as, "yeah....I get how not being told there were two options would be discouraging. How about we do this - we'll refund the difference & we'll remind our staff to make sure they are letting customers know exactly what their options are. Again - we're sorry that you felt taken advantage of and hope that you'll continue to give us an opportunity to serve your family." Had that been done - they'd have a customer for life. read more

Cap cover for my rims fell off after visit to brakes plus in Wylie. Then when I called and asked what happened, they lied and said it was already like that. Went back on their paperwork and wrote that my cap was missing. I know this is not true, there are two ways in and out of my neighborhood. I took one way out and the other way in. Guess where I found my cap, on the route in to my neighborhood. this proves they lied and took zero responsibility. now I have to buy another cap cover and screws. Such B.S. read more

Took my vehi here for them to figure out why the suspension was acting up. They told me the shocks and struts were bad. I said ok, fix it. That evening I realized that the problem wasn't fixed. I did not return right away, because I wanted to get another opinion. The other shop found that the suspension air compressor should have been replaced too, since it was malfunctioning. I returned to Brakes Plus. They re-examined the suspension system and found that the suspension air compressor was malfunctioning. Now they gave me several reasons as to why they didn't find this on the first examination, including it malfunctioned after I left their shop. As much as possible without seeing the vehicle, I was given ballpark pricing. I declined some of the service at the dealership and received a second opinion here. The measurements and recommendations were an exact match. The difference was the pricing. I saved over 25% by having the work done at Brakes Plus. I highly recommend Brakes Plus Wylie Texas. I was told by usual oil change shop that when they inspected my brakes that I was at 2% and would need to change the brake pads as soon as possible. I was a bit suspicious so I took my car in to Brakes Plus Wylie. The service staff was courteous and carefully checked my brakes and rotors. They told me that I was not due for new brakes and I still had a good 50% left. I appreciate the honesty by which this business operates and will surely go back to them for further needs. read more

My axle fell off my car. Jason the manager was very responsive and helped me through the whole situation. He even spoke with my father and got the price down to something affordable. He let my father know that "he wouldn't want the situation to happen to his kids. It's scary. I could've died. He's a father himself. He will help me." He absolutely did! Took my car in the day before Christmas Eve, they were able to get me in and out in just a few hours. I knew I just needed my brake pads done, they didn't try and convince me I needed more. I had received a coupon in the mail and they honored it with no questions asked. The pricing was a little high (my opinion) but I am highly satisfied with the work they did, how I was treated, and how my brakes feel so makes the price well worth it. read more
