Brakes Plus has been my "go to" place since moving to the boulder area 2 years ago. I am one of those skeptical single females that needs to trust the company that works on my truck. Thankfully, the manager of this facility has developed my trust. While all the work that has been done to my vehicle is not cheap, it's more reasonable than any other place I've had estimates done at. So between cost and trust, I will always have his facility work on my vehicle (as long as they can do the work). All service has been maintenance and replacement of my vehicle. I don't think this BrakesPlus deserves any stars at all. Their workmanship is pathetic and their staff is liar. Story #1 I got front brake pads replaced for my Hyundai Sonata 2009 by this store in Apr, 2015 for $300 when I picked up my car my the new brakes would make noises when applied. I was told that since the pads are new they will make noise for some days. 6 months later, brakes are still making noise, particularly in the morning after car is standing in the garage overnight. I complained and I was told (over phone) that this may be due to snow. Guess what even today in Oct, 2017 my car's brakes can make noise any time during reverse or forward. I guess the pads are up for the replacement now as the brakes paddle is going down and down. The pads came with a lifetime replacement warranty but not sure if I should go to BrakesPlus again as the events may repeat. Story #2 I did not learn any lesson from Story#1 and went back to this store again due to their Shocktober promotion where they had good offer for replacement of shock and struts. My Hyundai Sonata ride was not smooth and I could feel every small bump on the road. Before they worked on shocks and struts I asked their staff to come for a ride to ensure that the problem I was experiencing can be fixed by replacing shocks and struts. After the ride their staff/mechanic told me that shocks/struts have worn out and I should replace them. They told me about their Shocktober promotion. At the end of the Oct, 2015 I got shocks/struts serviced at this store and alignment was also done. They installed Monroe shocks/struts with lifetime warranty. The bill was $650. To my surprise, when I picked my car up and drove it, I barely felt any difference in the ride. Confused, I left the store but called them again after couple of days and told them the problem. They had no clear answer to my complaint and just tried to convince me that this is how my car would ride due to its make and blah.. blah... when I insisted then the mechanic suspected that one of the new shocks/struts was probably nor working as expected. I took car my again to their store and they offered me to replace the shocks/struts again but also issued a disclaimer that I may still not feel any difference. They offered me to put shocks/struts of a different (better) brand for extra $150 which is better than Monroe. Yes, they know Monrore was not a good brand but they would never tell this to you before you go for service. I did not have budget for another $150 so I decided to stick to Monroe. They kept my car for the day and replaced previously installed Monroe shocks/struts for no charge but that made no difference in the ride quality. I am still driving this car without knowing why I spent $650. Though they offer lifetime warranty on their parts I don't know if it is worth spending on Labor for replacement of same poor quality parts. So one star to this BrakesPlus and 0 star to myself for not learning a lesson. Thanks for reading. read more

This store deserves no stars. Do not take your car to get work done here. The workmanship is shoddy at best and they are putting people's lives at danger through their improper installation of brakes. After two trips to this breaks plus I had to have a third-party auto mechanic fix the shoddy work. At that time I was informed that the brakes were improperly installed and that it was a good thing I took the car to get fixed because my son would have suddenly had no breaks in this vehicle. The way the brakes were installed stripped the line and my son was leaking brake fluid the whole time without our knowledge. I'm a woman and I was given the speech about the car not being safe and if I don't get it fixed, such and such will fall out the car, blah blah blah. They gave me a price and when I told them I was going to take my car elsewhere, he said he could lowered the price and I was given another speech about the car not being safe, etc. Brakes Plus made it seem like my car was in dire need. I took my car elsewhere and and they told me it wasn't as bad as what it seemed. I find it hilarious that people can go this long unchecked, simply because they have the ability too. Go give your business to someone that deserves it. I initially came in on a Saturday to get my front brakes done. They were busy, so I made an appointment for the following Monday at 9:00 am. After waiting just over an hour, I was finally given an estimate of over $ 700.00 to fix my car. I, like many of the other wonen who came in here for service, was given the " car not safe" speech. Interesting since I had my brakes looked at by two other mechanic's shops prior to this date, and did not get the same report. I was also told it would take 3 hours to repair, yet the walk-ins seemed to be getting handled quickly. I have used other Brakes Plus locations in the past, and while initially satisfied, I came to realize they had a propensity to upsell. My father has had the same experience. I decided to give them another chance, but it seems to be a company wide policy to hard sell their customers, especially women. I won't be back. read more

I like to do any maintenance and other work on my vehicles unless it is something I can't do. When that happens I take my vehicle to this Brakes Plus. All staff from office to techs seem very knowledgeable and are always professional. I recently had a throttle position sensor replaced on my Ford van. I did not know how to change it. But the Brakes Plus staff got it done and the van flew through emissions and runs great now. I need to have the alignment done on my Grand Cherokee. Of course, I will take to these guys. read more

If I can give this place 0 stars I would. NEVER EVER come to this place. First time my husband I and brought our 2012 Subaru Forester to have the brakes fixed. Couple days later my car was really shaky every time I went over 50 mph. Took it back, they said they couldn't find anything wrong. A week later it got really bad. I had to stop at the side of the road to call for a tow truck. He told me that all the bolts on my wheels have fallen off and if i drove a mile more, all my tires would have flown off. Should have known better not to ever return!!! Last week we took our 2005 Subaru Forester to get an alignment because we needed to have it done asap. Our original shop had cancelled our appointment so we gave Brakes Plus the benefit of the doubt and decided to go to them again. SAME SHIT HAPPENED!!! Drove it this morning and car was shaky. Stopped at work and whattaya know??!!! One bolt missing on the driver's side wheel and one bolt missing on the rear passenger side. UGH. Poor judgement and totally our fault for going back but this is a place of service and we EXPECT that service to do a job right!!! Pissed. read more

I went in for rear brakes for my 1997 Rav 4 with 180K miles as I was hearing metal on metal. I also asked them to have a look at a clunk near the rear differential when letting out the clutch. The good: - They said the brakes had plenty of life left. They "cleaned" and adjusted the emergency brake cable. Fine so far. - They properly diagnosed the clunk as a bad rear diff mount. The bad: - A quote of $475.30 to replace the rear diff mount. They also said I needed new shocks and struts - $524. (it's a 1997 and the suspension feels fine - if it ain't broke, don't fix it). - I ordered a new rear diff mount for $32.36 including shipping. I installed it in 5 minutes. Four bolts, easy access, didn't even get my hands dirty. I understand that DIY will almost always be cheaper, and I have no problem paying for reasonable parts cost and labor, but considering the almost non-existent labor involved and the readily available inexpensive parts, I have to agree with the other reviewers about being overcharged and the unnecessary up sell. read more

I dropped my car off last Sunday night and it was for an oil change, tire rotation, and State Inspection. They called back the next day to mention that the guy who does the state inspection would not be there until Tuesday, so I said I will leave it there and pick up Tuesday. I got a call Tuesday afternoon that the car was ready but the Inspection could not pass due to not enough mileage on the car since it seems the electrical was reset. I came to pick up the car and no oil change had been done and it's now Tuesday night. Finally picked the car p and noticed the ground was oil everywhere so I decided not to take it home and damage my driveway. So I asked them on Friday to take a look and didn't get a call back until Monday that they charge $132.00 for the cleaning and dye service. Still not ready and it is now Wednesday and they still have not called to tell me anything. My car has been there more hours than a full time worker now. UNACCEPTABLE!!! read more

My Honda Accord ran out of oil a ceased in the other side of the hwy and i had it towed her at the advice of the tow truck owner and based on reviews i had read. I did my research on what i should pay to have the work done over the next few days and then they called with the estimate. It was priced in the middle of the range it should cost for the work to be done it was priced as i was expecting. I then suggested we change clutch and throw out bearing since we were replacing the motor. He quoted on top of the estimate and only charged parts cost on the clutch. Thats "working" with the customer. They called me on parts that i knew had 140k of wear, that didn't test well. Starter was good replaced myself a couple of years ago, but alternator had been decaying, and water pump on a new block is a good idea. Post Repair: On the way home I had an issue in that i found the ac was blowing hot. Called them, dropped it off, they found the issue, fixed it, and didn't charge me a-dime! You can cut corners if you want, but these guys stood buy their work and worked with me on a big project and did exactly what i asked and were very fair. Id definitely go back to them! Honda dealers don't do this good of a job and they charge much, much, more. And they get bad reviews on quality!!! read more

After reading iffy reviews I went in to speak to the Breaks Plus employees to find out more about prices/time line. The employee at the front desk was so kind to me! He was transparent about pricing with a physical chart, which I appreciate being a young girl. The Superior, CO prices are lower than what I have seen at other car shops in Denver! The employee told me I could leave my car that day for new breaks, or come back another time. With no pressure! I said yes, they gave me a ride to work and my car was finished a few hours later! The process was fast and I trust them to work on my car again. 10/10 recommend! read more

I recently went here for an oil change, tire rotation, and break check. I made an appointment a week prior. When I went to my "appointment" I had to wait 3 hours in their waiting room while they started to help walk-ins and also finish before my vehicle. I marked my tires with permanent marker by numbers (to make sure they actually rotated them) and they NEVER even rotated my tires, then made me pay for it! Now I have to check my oil to see if they even changed it. I highly recommend NOT coming here. Extremely disappointed. read more

I came in with the usual suspicions and hangups about taking my vehicle in (for anything), knowing how mechanically challenged I am. Ash and the staff here are really fantastic. These guys have been very honest with me and have saved me a lot of money, compared to some of the outlandish quotes I got elsewhere. If you need some servicing done that they can help with, I definitely recommend giving them a shot. If I could give negative stars, I would. I will warn you that this is going to be a really long review, but if you read nothing else, just take my advice: PLEASE NEVER LET THESE MORONS WORK ON YOUR CAR. I had a 2002 Honda Accord that I brought in on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend after it overheated on the highway. After completing the diagnostic, they came back and quoted me $1300 to replace the blown head gasket (which was what had caused my car to overheat). They said for this price they would also replace the timing belt, do an oil change, a coolant flush and a wheel alignment, all of which I knew I needed anyway. They told me they could have my car back to me by the following Friday (a little long, but understandable due to the holiday weekend). Perfect. The following Friday, I called around noon as I hadn't heard anything about my car and they said they were sorry but it wouldn't be ready until Monday. Not a big deal, I could wait. Monday at 5 pm (almost close of business), Derrick (not sure if that's how his name is spelled) calls me and says the knock sensors and one other thing (I forgot what it was), needed to be replaced and would set me back another $300 and another 1 or 2 days without my car. After deliberation with my family who knows more about cars than I do, I agreed because I just wanted my car back. I had owned it for almost 6 years and taken really good care of it and wasn't ready to let it go, and I shouldn't have had to. They finally called me the next day (Tuesday) and said I could come pick up my car, which I did. I paid my $1600 and thanked them for their help (though I now know I shouldn't have thanked them at all). I drove it all the way back home to Denver (not close, I know) and had no problems. The next day, after driving only a few miles, I noticed a clear substance leaking out rapidly underneath my car. ALL of the coolant had leaked out. I called this Brakes Plus in the morning, and they told me to fill the coolant container with water and drive it to the Brakes Plus on Leetsdale, just 3 miles from my house. I did, they replaced the radiator hose, and I was on my way. On my way home, my oil light came on. In the 6 years of owning the car, I've never seen the oil light go on. At this point, I was growing extremely frustrated as it seemed that since the work had been done, there were daily problems with my car. The next morning at 8 am, I called and spoke with Derrick again and explained to him that the oil light had gone on and the mechanic who spoke to me the day I initially picked up my car told me that this may happen and it would just require a new "pigtail", a type of censor. Derrick informed me that he didn't have that part but he would find one and call me back to let me know when I could come back in. 4 hours later, I still hadn't heard from Derrick and was growing deeply angry with him and his unprofessional ways. I called back and told him I was frustrated that I hadn't heard back from him and I really needed them to fix my car so I could get on with my life and stop cancelling plans, appointments, and work obligations. He proceeded to tell me "sorry for not calling you, your part will be here shortly, you can bring your car in at 2" and he insisted my car was safe to drive. So I made the 21 mile trek back to this Brakes Plus. They had me in and out in an hour and assured me this would be the last of my problems. On my way home that day, the oil light came back on. I called back and spoke to Bart, who insisted that the car was safe to drive and they could replace the other part of the sensor when I was scheduled for a complimentary coolant flush promised when I picked up my car initially. I had an appointment for 8 am and brought my car (which drove well since, minus the oil light) in and was told it would take about 2 hours. 4 hours later, I'd heard nothing. I called and he said "uh yea, your car will be ready in 10 minutes". HOW HAS A TWO HOUR JOB TAKEN 4 HOURS AND HOW HAVE YOU NOT CALLED ME? I went back, Kirk at the front desk handed me my key and said "you're all set". No receipt. No explanation. No sorry for the delay. I confirmed that they did the coolant flush and fixed the oil light sensor and they sent me on my way. On my way home that day, my car started smoking on the highway and I was told it was the radiator this time and it would be another $500. Because of the lack of workmanship done by these fools at this Brakes Plus, I was forced to get rid of my beloved car that I had just spend $1600 on. On top of it all, they had started screening my calls and their service was terrible. These guys messed up my car due to their lack of attention to detail, and I am only writing this review for the sake of others who need work done on their car. Please find a different place to bring it. I will never trust them with another vehicle of mine again and you shouldn't either. read more

Do not go there-they are a dishonest, unscrupulous, lying brake repair service that on purpose is deceitful!!! I went in to have my brakes checked. I am a single female and they tried to put the fear of a brake failure and an accident into my mind, saying my brakes were so bad, i could have an accident that week! Plus the potential repair brake job was more expensive that other quotes i subsequently got to compare. For brakes that were supposed to fail that week (a big scare tactic lie), i took the car to 3 other auto repair shops and those 3 said i had at least 5-6 months left easily! And 4000 miles and 6 months later i got my brakes replaced, when they really finally needed it done. This dishonest shop should be closed down, as they prey on the fear/accident factor and females beware, as they dishonestly try to sell unnecessary costly repairs. They get NO stars! read more

Went in for an oil change. Was told I needed a new battery, which I believe as it is 5 years old. I was told it would take 5 extra minutes, 20 minutes tops. After inquiring several times as to why I was waiting so long they only told me "5 more minutes" every time. After an hour I told them I wanted my truck and I was leaving. They offered an unsympathetic "we apologize" and just kept saying I could come back and have it done later. I will not. Recently, I asked to have the transmission flushed ($149). They called and told me it was not necessary, the fluid is clean and it was done already a year ago when I had my radiator replaced. They could have easily gotten $150 out of me! I have sent several friends and co-workers to this place and they have the same good things to say as I do. I've done business with this store as well as the location at 120th for 7 years. I'm always wary of automotive repair shops because there's always a chance the shop is not being honest or doesn't know what they are talking about. They don't try to oversell. It's nice to know that I can have an honest and fair assessment of what needs to be done. Over the years, I've had 4 cars worked on at these 2 locations. They have a large array of repair services meaning that I've only had to go to the dealer maybe twice in these 7 years. That's a big savings. read more

I first came here almost 2 years ago when I had shimmying when braking. The dealer had told me I needed new pads and rotors. Brakes Plus did their inspection and determined that I could have my rotors turned and told me my pads were pretty much like new. They turned my rotors and the machine was taking a little longer than normal so they discounted me 10% due to the inconvenience without me even asking. 5 star visit... Fast forward to last week when I took my car in to have my brakes checked due to shimmying. Determined that I needed new pads all the way around and new rotors. The price quote was still $500 less than the dealer so I had them do the work. Several days after the repair, I had a terrible squealing coming from my brakes when backing up. I called the store and the manager Brent encouraged me to bring my car in when it was convenient and they would work me in to have it looked at. He also apologized in advance if it was something they had done without even seeing it. I called on Monday morning and spoke to Brent and took my car in straight away. Apparently it was something with a backing plate and 20 minutes after I brought it in, it was fixed and they had me on my way. He apologized again for the inconvenience, told me he personally oversaw the work, and even called a couple of hours later to make sure they had fixed the issue. Great customer service! read more

I came in for a front-end brake job on 10/16/13 and I couldn't have been more pleased with the work. After putting the car up, they allowed me to walk with them and inspect the work to be done as well as pointing out other issues with the car that I could have done at the dealership under warranty. I would not recommend Brakes Plus to anyone. I took my car in for brakes and an oil change. I asked them to change the oil when I dropped the car off, I again reminded them that I needed the oil changed when they called to give me my estimate costs. When I picked the car up, I had a feeling the oil wasn't changed, my husband and I checked for a new oil filter, there wasn't one. He took my car back, they admitted they hadn't changed it so they changed it on the spot in front of my husband. There was no offer to comp the cost. Extremely shoddy workmanship on water pump replacement. Brakes Plus Superior, CO replaced all the crankcase bolts (02 Outback) with some other bolt type that didn't fit correctly... causing the crankcase to continue to leak. Why not just use the same bolts to put the crankcase back together? I brought it back in and they "fixed" it again by putting silicone putty in the place where it leaked instead of actually troubleshooting and correcting the error. This took an additional 4 days to complete. The original bolts were never to be found. It must be easy to "stand by your work" when the work isn't that good, meaning return trips for your clients. In the end, I limped the car to the dealer to get the work finished right. (lesson learned in an unfortunate way). Subaru had to replace all of the bolts, nuts and of course the assembly. The dealer showed me how they actually jammed the water pump assembly into place, leaving scrapes inside the housing. I will never ever go back to this place, and have spread the word to my fellow Superior locals about the incompetency, poor workmanship and lack of expertise. Went in for a brake check. 1.5 hours later i was told my struts and shocks were leaking everywhere and had to be replaced immediately as well as my brake pads were worn and needed to be rotered to the tune of $850 - with their lousy coupon. Next day i take my car to the Toyota Dealership (from experience i trust them totally) for a second opinion. After a thorough inspection that took 45 minutes, there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with anything. So, where does this leave BrakesPlus? Ripping people off and your expense. I did not have a good experience with this place. The sales manager had that used car salesman energy from the second I walked in. I went in there looking for pads, which they advertise as being pretty cheap only to be given the "We should talk in person" speech which really means I'm going to try to sell you something and I know its harder to say no in person. Anyway, when I said no the guy went from really "caring about my safety" to telling the mechanic to "get my car out of there". I'm not saying they misrepresented what I needed done, but for that amount of money I wanted to take it to my actual mechanic. I got new brakes and rotors and the labor for less than Brakes Plus wanted plus a much better brake pad. I would steer clear of here, Barnsley Tire in Boulder had always been nothing but honest and affordable with me and none of that high pressure sales attitude. read more

Given the varied but few reviews I had some reservations about bringing my teenager's 2000 Honda Accord here for struts/shocks, possible brake job, and LOF. However, the convenience of making an appointment online, current promotions, and location gave me the push to visit them for the first time. I am very pleased with my experience and the level of service. They reported that the brakes were at 6-70% but, as I already suspected, it needed a full strut/shock job at 4 corners. The avg for such is $175-250 a corner, and with all the promotions from them and the manufacturer, I ended up with labor, tax, etc at about $182 a corner, so it felt like a great deal. They were quick and communicated well. Lastly, they forgot the LOF, and were apologetic, but not a problem, we had some time before it was needed. However, thanks to Chris who followed up with a call and a generous offer to LOF for free. Also he mailed some 10% coupons. I'll be back, and appreciate the customer service, which really defines the experience. Let's face it, anyone can do an LOF. It is the service that makes me return. Thanks! read more

They left my car in the same spot for 7 hours all day before I took the keys back. I understand appointments have priority but if it is unlikely my car will be seen on that day, it's totally unacceptable not to mention that or even confirm to me it will he finished this afternoon. Checked in at 4 pm an hour before I finally decided to pick it up and was told it was "next up, just finishing oil changes on appointments". Gave them the benefit of the doubt and went to a nearby restaurant for over an hour before seeing my car parked the same way in the same spot I left It in at 10 am. It was only an hour to close and I was going to have brake pads done so no idea when they were going to notify me that my car WASNT going to be worked on. Was asked if I wanted to schedule an apt while walking out LOL. Will try any other Louisville shop as prev reviews suggest. I know auto shops aren't in n out or super quick but 7 hrs without even looking at it and being deceitful with time frames isn't very cool read more
