Made an 10am appt for an oil change , upon arrival at 945 , was informed that all bays were full and it would be a while. While sitting in the lobby another customer arrived for a 10am appt ... was told that there would be a wait due to no bays open. That customer cancelled and left. Looks like they double booked appts ... First Red Flag I called a friend and we left and grabbed lunch around 1030am .. while at lunch at approximately 11am , I received a call from the Manager "Paul" , who proceeded to tell me that my Idler Arm needed replaced , second red flag as I had just had suspension work completed about 6 months ago when I purchased new tires from my trusted tire shop , they replace a few suspension parts installed new tires and performed an alignment. Truck drove great ... When returning to the shop around 1115am , Paul informed me it would be 2 hours before completed .. I decided to wait. As I waited in the lobby , I observed in person and heard phone conversations with several people ... Most if not all were told they needed additional repairs .. 3rd Red Flag My truck was not returned to me until 4pm .. At that time Paul told me that my trusted tire shop didn't align my truck properly.. 4th Red Flag When I left to drive home , I immediately noticed my truck was veering right and not driving the same as when I took it in ... 5th and Final Red Flag ... I took my truck to my trusted tire shop and they corrected the bad alignment work and the truck drives Perfectly now .. read more

I've been going to this Brakes Plus for years and in the last two years, it has gone downhill. I scheduled an oil change online. When I get there, Paul was visibly stressed saying he has too many cars in the bay and my oil change could take two hours. I scheduled it on a Tuesday and this was a Thursday noon appointment. About an hour later, Paul calls me to tell me my rear brakes are so worn out that I need to change them (he gave me a measurement but I forgot). I told him not today. He said QUOTE "this is pretty emergent and you should get them changed in the next few weeks." We get off the phone and I continue to wait to hear that the oil change is done. I get a call an hour later from Paul saying "I told you it would be done in 30 minutes" when in fact he did not say that. One week later, my husband and I took my car to a different brakes plus and my rear brakes are at 5mm (need to be changed between 2-3 mm). January 3, 2024 I constantly use this Brakes Plus shop at 8380 W. Deer Valley Rd in Peoria, AZ. PAUL LAFKO is the General Manager there. He is truly honest as they come, which is generally difficult to say for any auto repair place that services your vehicle because they are always trying to find other problems and sell you things you may not actually need. Paul will not do that! If his shop does find something else that he thinks is a safety issue or something that may need attention in the future, he'll surely tell you about it. And, he'll take the time to put your vehicle on the lift and show you exactly what his concerns are so you can be more assured what is going on. PAUL will often suggest if you are unsure about anything he tells you to feel free to get a second opinion somewhere else, and get their repair price as well. I say this because 9 times out of 10 when I've done this PAUL'S prices win and his diagnosis was spot on. Additionally, besides DEALERS being a more expensive option, their warranties are generally one year or less. At Brakes Plus the warranty is usually two years. Had an appointment Mar 3rd 8:00am. Wanted a check engine light diagnosis and figure out what repairs I need. I had the code P1450 (unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum.) Informed who checked me in with the code. They said they will call me and let me know. I pulled this code days before my appointment and 45min before the appointment. That was the only code I was getting P1450.I knew the problem had to do with my fuel system. Get a call 2:16pm same day. Asking if anyone informed me that my car needed to stay overnight. That they couldn't get to it. Get a call 9:05am Sat March 4th saying they were starting the inspection. Get a call 21 min later 9:26am informing that my car had a bad thermostat, needed coolant sensor replaced & coolant exchange. Total $831.03 which also included a $99 diagnostic. I agree to the work.. They mentioned no codes over the phone or additional problems.I had no symptoms of these problems they were saying I needed work on. No overheating, no temperature problems. No coolant leaks or codes to do with that. Just P1450 code and check engine light I mentioned to them in the beginning. I took their word that this was the work I needed done. Get a call same day 2:46pm my car was done. At pickup they mention nothing about code p1450. My take home sheet mentions no codes or additional work needed I assume everything is fine. I pay and go. Fill up my car w/ gas later that day and it doesn't start after fueling. Try again and it starts. Wait 2 days, get gas. Same thing happens. scan car and there's a pending code for P1450. Exact code I went in for. This occurred after getting my car back from then. Not blaming them for this issue but this is what I expected to happen because the code I was pulling p1450 had to do with fuel system. But they told me I only had cooling system problems and nothing else.. Go back Tues March 7th explain the situation. Ask is there anyway you could have mixed my car up with another car & codes. I knew whatever was wrong with my car had to do with the fuel system not my cooling system. Mechanic Juan said no. Showed them I pulled the code P1450 45 minutes before my appointment Friday. Juan said he pulled code P1116. which I never pulled and never saw When I saw the paper mechanic Juan used to do the diagnosis he also wrote the code P1450 on it. But no one mentioned this to me. I asked why wasn't I informed about repairs to do with this code, because that was the code I came in for. Juan said because the other code was more important. Which is crazy. I'm paying for a diagnostic and asking you to provide me with the ENTIRE details of what's wrong with the car not just the ones you feel like mentioning. This is literally a safety risk, negligence and withholding information. If they would have told me I had both problems I would have paid for both codes to be repaired. But the fact Juan decided to withhold information about my repairs for my car gives me such a bad feeling I have a scanner and never got this code P1116. Went back and forth on what could of happened and didn't come to a conclusion, the best case was to get another diagnosis pay for any parts and labor to do with this code of p1450... which is ridiculous. I came in for the exact code and told them something was wrong with my fuel system and they made the decision not to inform me about possible repairs on that exact code. I honestly don't trust the mechanic Juan AT ALL. He is either lying or made a mistake. Why withhold the information about the P1450 code. It makes no sense.. I also worry because I had to wait 24 hours to get my car diagnostic because they didn't have time for my car. Even though I had a 8:00 am appointment. I feel my car kept getting pushed aside and wasn't provided the best care or diagnostic. Which leads me to believe incorrect repairs were made and I went home with the same problems that got progressively worst after spending over $800 and now I'm told I need to pay additional for labor and parts on a code mentioned to them the day I took my car in and wanted to fix in the first place.. Chuck is the only reason I came back after the first time. His customer service is unmatched. You can tell he's a really good person. He honestly seemed confused about the whole situation and what happened as well. He did his best with what he could do in the situation. I literally only got to talk to the mechanic Juan for just a moment and spent the rest talking to chuck. He deserves a raise. I appreciate his calmness and his willingness to listen to our concerns and try to come to a conclusion. Unfortunately, none of those would work. I'm just not willing to spend anymore money at Brakes Plus or put any trust in them any longer when it comes to my car and repairs. Do not take your car there. Paul is the worst manager. He lies and will not accept any accountability for his actions. I ended up spending $3000k to repair the damage they did replacing my struts. They never test drove my car or they would have discovered the damage. They took no responsibility and I was screamed at several times from Paul the mgr. I-had new brakes put on my 2011 Toyota 4 Runner, following day while driving it my brakes basically fell off almost causing a serious collision! Scariest day of my life couldn't even drive the truck it wasn't operable, it wouldn't go forward, it wouldn't stop without almost ejecting us! While in the parking lot of the Tutor Time where this store is located my 2003 Chevy Tahoe went into reduced engine power. It was August. I was alone with a small child. And my father was recently placed in hospice care and I needed to get to the unit to see him. The very nice seemingly knowledgeable rep at Brake Plus ran the code after hours and assured me they could get it taken care of first thing in the morning. I was relieved that this store was going to make it easy. I dropped it off the next day and they said it was a very costly throttle body that needed to be replaced. Without question I needed it fixed immediately and so I had it done. When I picked it up the Tahoe seemed fine but within 3 days it would pop back into reduced engine power! I took it back countless times but by the time I was close enough to get there the power reset. Each time the techs at Brake plus would tell me they couldn't get it to do it so they didn't show a problem. Time was limited with my father and I ended up not driving it much as it kept acting up. In November I noticed that with the temps cooler it wasn't doing it. It ran ok until go figure... March when it warmed up and then started reduced engine power again. At that time I took it back and again they couldn't find anything. So I parked it. Until last week. Last week I had my son take it in with the reduced engine power and finally they were able to diagnose it. A NEW THROTTLE BODY will fix they say!!!!! I gave them the history and wanted to know with less than 6000 miles on the last throttle body they replaced that didn't fix it how that was possible. They charged $90 to diagnosis it. Well imagine they can't pull the records because it's more than a year.. and I'm just SOL! They are clueless and I say run fast before trusting them to repair anything other than Brakes. The plus clearly means Brakes plus we will steal your money and pretend to fix things for you! So it's been a good amount of time since Mike and his staff repaired my Tahoe. All is still excellent. Went into Brakes Plus yesterday ... This will be a longggg review, spanning a couple years... even thou one experience was less than great, i will include it because it demonstrates how Professional Mark & Paul run this particular Brakes Plus location... Kindness goes a long way with me, as does honestly and a fair deal... all of which "this location" has provided to me time and time again. So, a couple months ago I went in to have a Full & Complete Tuneup (spark plugs and fluids) plus I had my AC repaired as well as having some other issues fixed, such as my power window motor replaced etc... Anyways, a couple days later the "check engine light" came on, and I found out it was the #6 spark plug misfiring... so I called Paul, and he said to just bring it in the next day and they would figure it out... But because of an overseas trip, I was not able to bring it in right away, however, as soon as I got back from Japan, I noticed my Vehical was now shaking, so I stopped into "O'Reillys" on the way to Brakes Plus and asked for a diagnostic check, and this time I was told it was spark plugs #6, #4 #3 and also two Seperate Bank systems were running too lean (whatever than means...the technical stuff is lost me, I'm a girly girl) So I asked the O'Reillys guy how that could possibly be, when I just had the spark plugs replaced before my trip ...then asked him if maybe his meter was reading the "old" diagnostics of prior to fixing the issues... but he said no... then attempted to sell me parts (that I didn't need) The O'reilly guy said that it could "only be" one of 2 things, either they didn't replace bad spark plug boots (they could be cracked) OR that it's not "seeding correctly" because whoever replaced the spark plugs didn't line it up correctly (implying that brakes plus did something wrong) Needless to say I left O'Reillys upset (un-justly thou, because O'Reillys was Wrong)... ...so when I got to Brakes Plus, I was a little emotional ... Paul, who has always been SO NICE every time I've gone in for any work, did his magic and prevented me from crying "again" (... you see, I had broke down and literally Cried a couple years earlier when their mechanic had fixed my SUV, in a less than typical way... and because of their Huge Windows in the waiting area, I had a front row seat to the mechanics meltdown... which made me fear my Vehical was going to have more issues than I came in with...) Paul noticed what was happening and felt terrible, but assured me not to worry because that perticular mechanic was the Best at what he does... yet unfortunately that mechanic just didn't have the calmest of demeanors... The next day Paul went out of his way to Call to check up on me, and to apologize again...and also to see how my SUV was doing...he told me if I felt there were any issues at all what so ever, to bring it in and they'll take care of it... But I digress, back to the more recent experience after leaving O'reillys ... So, I get to Brakes Plus, and Paul again calms my nerves by speaking kind and empatheticly, but decided it's best to get Mark to come talk to me (The last couple years I had assumed Mark was the owner, but found out he's the manager, which may not seem like a big deal, but it's impressive considering he runs the place in a way that genuinely feels like he cares, the way an owner would ... as does Paul) Anyways, Mark sits down next to me and explains in great detail what is was happening with my SUV (in a manner that's understandable, with props, lol) Turns out, the heater hose was leaking water on the 2banks, and was shorting out the new spark plugs... which also explained why I was seeing water dripping puddles on my driveway ... so, the O'Reillys guy was Wrong, and he stressed me for nothing (by implying something was done incorrectly...) And Yet, even thou I walked into Brakes Plus not initially giving them the benefit of the doubt, because of O'reillys mis-information, I was still treated kind by Mark and Paul... And rather than burdening me with more unexpected bills, they did what they needed to do to get me back on the road as a courtesy... Then simply handed me the keys... In a world where you often hear that mechanics cheat people (I hear it on FB all the time), it's good to know I have reliable and kind mechanics that I can depend on to be fair and honest... If you need work done, I recommend you bring your business to THIS LOCATION, even if you have to drive out of your way... it's worth the piece of mind you'll have... Mark and Paul are as honest and fair as you can get... and you can tell by their demeanor that they are genuinely good men... They say you should have trusted business contacts in your life.... A Trusted Doctor, A Trusted Person to cut your hair, and a Trusted Mechanic... Well, Mark & Paul are my trusted mechanics... ....now I just need to work on finding a good hairstylist! read more

!!EDIT!! And when I spoke said manager he said these things happen gradually. One day it's a little tight and then it just goes out. Which is understandable but i have noticed nothing until today when it just "popped" according to him. Almost killed my fiancé No wonder they have terrible reviews. I got my brakes done here a month ago and now something is broken correlates with the brakes (the booster) but I wasn't told? And now this morning I almost got into a car accident because of this. Now they want to charge me upwards of $1000 for a brand new part plus labor and tax. Which is fine I would do this but the "manager" was extremely rude. I had issues before at a different Brakes Plus, but all I needed was a basic oil change so I went there at 83rd Ave. and deer Valley. They called me that afternoon and told me my transmission fluid, spark plugs, cabin and air filters, including a whole brake flush needed all be done. Well good thing I know a real company that does not try to screw you over. I took my vehicle there and had them double check everything. They told me all my fluids were absolutely clean, filters were all clean and there's no way they even check the transmission fluid because it was still locked. Do not come here for alignments. It's beyond their skill level. After they did my alignment on a 2011 Tacoma it still pulled to the right, brought it right back and fed me the bs that rotating tires will fix. The michelin tires are brand new, just bought all 4 at cosco, I had them do the rotation and it still pulled quickly to the right. Obviously there is a slight pull to the right due to the curves on the AZ roads, but this was not that. I complained to the store manager about the horrible pull and demanded my refund. He refused saying they did do work. How is that honest work? It still pulls! I'm going to network alignment they offer 6 months warranty on alignments I should've read the previous reviewers post. They told me my alternator was bad so I got a new and still didn't fix the issue. I had to bring it back the very next day because it stalled out on me 4 times due to my timing being off by 38. The very next day on my way to work my engine completely blew up on me leaving me stranded on the freeway. These people here are unwilling to help me to correct their wrong. I have a 2013 Lexus, and wanted to get an oil change. At the time they offered a free oil change. I said "it's free? Even though I have a Lexus?" And they said yes which I thought was pretty cool. They were friendly and got it done. Now the big problem i have with them is that they put cheap oil in my Lexus! They used oil that needs to be changed at only 5k miles! Now have done lots of research with Lexus mechanics as well as other regular mechanics. They all told me the oil that SHOULD have be used goes for every 10K! And other Toyota's go for 20k! And yet these guys used 5k and with me having a luxury car, I don't want anything cheap in it! It could have damaged my car! If you have a luxury car, DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I wanted to give Brakes Plus at 8380 W Deer Valley a shout out for their effort in trying to rip me off $857. I just bought a car for my son and the brakes were squeaky so I decided to take it for a free evaluation. They told me both the front and back brakes were shot and I would need to replace them along with the rotors. I almost pulled the trigger but decided to take it across the street to Firestone at 81st and Deer Valley for a second opinion. They looked at it today and told me nothing needed to be replaced and I had over 50% left on my pads and it was just brake dust. It's really sad how the car service industry takes advantage of people and scams them out of thousands of dollars. My ac stopped blowing cool air so I took it here so they could put more freon in it. They told me that if I had the "old" freon then it would be 75 but that they would do a FREE ac check to see if there were any leaks. I get a call an hour and a half later saying I had two leaks in the pipes that needed to be replaced and that my ac compressor was shot. The total cost they estimated to me was nearly 1,800 dollars. Looking at the breakdown of pricing they wanted to charge me $633.98 for a new compressor and $512.00 for a new hose. I understand these places can charge want they want ut when researching the cost of a new compressor it didn't even come close to the price they were charging me. I knew for a fact my ac compressor was not blown because if you know anything about cars you know that these compressors have so many fail-save shut-offs so that they don't break. Using common sense 101 if it's not receiving input of freon into the system it shuts off. Obviously, it's "not working" because I'm all out of freon. They were trying to mislead me into paying an absurd amount of money for a part that didn't even need replacing. The reason my boyfriend and I didn't do it ourselves was that we didn't know how much freon was still left and you can break your system if you overload it. after telling the the mechanics that I would not be getting any services done they drained all the front from my system they had put in to "find all the problems". I was aware my car took 16oz of freon and now my system was empty. We then went to O' Rielys and got a can. Once we filled it up, SHOCKER... my ac blew cold. so clearly my compressor was like I said was never broken. those employees looked me in the eye saying that I had to get all these repairs done in order for my ac to work again. I am in my early 20's paying for rent and putting myself through nursing school. I'm sure a lot of other people don't have hundreds of dollars lying around to just give away. It's already a financial stress when something does break so hearing that my car was going to take 1,800 to fix was gut-wrenching. They people take advantage of anyone, but especially young women and they do it with no remorse. It is disgusting how they upcharge innocent people who truly don't know any better and are trusting these people to be good honest people and fix their cars. My husband and I dropped his truck off to have it looked at for diagnostic. The vehicle was there for 6 hours. I had left out of town that morning after dropping it off. They told me they would pick my husband up when the vehicle was ready. I get a call from my husband that not only did they not pick him up when they said they would, the badly damaged his truck and told him they didn't and denied it. I received a call two days later from Mark saying " nothing was seen" ......so o don't get to see these videos like we said? I just said ok. Then my husband called and asked for Marks bosses number. Mark said he can't give that out but would have him call him. A guy named John called and told him he only watched an hour of the video even though out truck was there for 6 hours. He said he will review all 6 hours but we shall see. It's been a week and we are still waiting. Seems like they will do anything to get out of responsibility and they don't do what they say they will. I will be posting on another location I went to for my car and what happened there. We had a very good experience just yesterday. My A/C was not working and I rolled in just before 5PM after calling, and Paul told me to head on in. After maybe 15 minutes they resolved what was wrong with my car and offered me options based off of my schedule - they said I could leave my car overnight and pick it up the next day if I wanted to. That worked perfectly for me. I also got a great price for what the issue was, and they were reasonable and fair. They checked in with me periodically over the phone and left messages If I was unable to answer. I was able to pick up my car today and it's working like a gem. Not only that, but Paul took the time to explain the parts that were impacted me. He even brought me the part in a baggie so I could physically see what was replaced. I will admit, I know nothing about cars...but when given information I can do my research and consult with people who DO know about cars, and I know I got a speedy, cost-effective deal. I also got great customer service and felt the urgency -- which is nice when you are a pregnant lady with no working A/C in her car in 115 degree weather :) Thank you so much to Paul and the team. read more

This location told me I need about $1-2K worth of work done including brakes, a timing belt, shocks and struts and some other small stuff. I said thanks and took my Honda to a mechanic friend. Not only could I go another 30K miles on the brakes (he actually showed me), I did not need shocks and struts and my Honda doesn't need a timing belt until 105K miles. My friend called the dealer himself and asked. They did say in AZ you might want to do it at 60K because of the heat. Regardless these people are crooks and please don't take your vehicle here. read more

I am completely dissatisfied with the work done by Brakes Plus. I took my car in for a shaking issue going down the freeway. about $2300 later and a bunch of new parts and brake work my car rides worse now than it did before I took it in. I have returned 3 times afterwards to give them an opportunity stand in back of their work and do the right thing. There's nothing worse than a thief and a bald face liar! Save your money and explore other options! read more
