My experience with Brakes Plus - Please read before trusting them with your vehicle.
I don't normally make posts like this, but after everything my family and I have gone through, I feel like people deserve to know what happened.
This all started on June 26, 2026, when I went to Brakes Plus for a routine oil change. During their inspection, I was told my 2016 Honda Civic's brakes measured 2 mm when they should have been around 8 mm, and that they needed to be replaced. I trusted their recommendation and decided 2 weeks later to go back and get my brakes done by them. Even though there was no codes or lights indicating that were was anything wrong with my brakes system, there was one code on my car before service (tire pressure).
The brake replacement ended up costing around $500, including over $100 for a brake fluid service. After everything that happened, I took my vehicle to Big A for a second opinion. They were professional, honest, and took the time to explain everything. Based on their inspection, they told us the brake fluid service wasn't needed, which immediately made me question why I had been charged for it. They also found no voltage going to my right rear wheel, which raised even more questions about what happened while my vehicle was at Brakes Plus.
What happened next was even more frustrating.
When Adam Ward went to pick up my car on Saturday, Brakes Plus never mentioned any warning codes or diagnostic issues. They handed him the keys as if everything was fine. It wasn't until Adam went back inside and pointed out the warning lights and codes that they acknowledged there was an issue. At that point, they told us they couldn't get the codes to clear.
When we returned on Tuesday looking for answers, the story had changed. Instead of saying they couldn't clear the codes, we were suddenly told the codes had already been on my vehicle before I ever brought it in. That was never mentioned on Saturday when the issue was first brought to their attention. From that point on, they continued insisting the codes were already there, even though that wasn't what we were originally told.
The way they treated my boyfriend,Adam , throughout this process was completely disrespectful. They even claimed I was on speaker phone during one of the conversations, even though his phone was dead at the time. That statement simply doesn't make sense.
Then they told my grandma, Sandra, that I should have been the one to bring my vehicle in instead of my boyfriend. Since when does a repair shop get to decide who can speak on behalf of a customer? It was my vehicle, and I have every right to have someone I trust communicate with the shop for me. That comment was unnecessary, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional.
We reached out to corporate hoping someone would actually investigate what happened and hear our side. Instead, it feels like they simply spoke with the store, accepted their version of events, and never even gave us the courtesy of a phone call. We were never given a fair opportunity to explain everything that happened. keep in mind we called corporate customer service 3 times over a few day period to which we got told that Lucas the REGIONAL manger would be calling us ASAP, the 3rd time we called we spoke with Brittney at customer service who then HUNG UP ON US AFTER REQUESTING TO GET DIRECTLY IN TOUCH WITH THE REGIONAL MANAGER.
At this point, this isn't just about a brake job. It's about feeling like I was overcharged, receiving inconsistent explanations, and watching my family be disrespected while simply trying to get answers.
I expected honesty, transparency, accountability, and respect. Instead, I left feeling taken advantage of and completely dismissed.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Brakes Plus. If you're considering taking your vehicle there, ask questions, keep documentation, and don't be afraid to get a second opinion before agreeing to repairs. I wish I had.
I do recommend Big A as they were honest, transparent, and even the mechanics came to talk to us over the situation to which we learned that they said they could tell someone had been messing with the system- Btw brakes plus had their manager tell us that they don't touch those systems and the mechanic at Big A told us THEY HAVE TO TOUCH THAT SYSTEM TO SERVICE IT. With 3 new codes I cannot recommend Brakes plus and WILL NEVER GO THERE FOR SERVICE AGAIN . read more
