Alonso the store manage grabbed my keys with my house keys from me, said, "I am holding your these (keys) hostage" after I had already paid over $700 for them to repair the shifter cable and HAD TO BRING IT BACK because they installed a BAD CABLE in my Toyota Corolla. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! THEY LIE AND DO TERRIBLE WORK! They said the original part was no longer being manufactured by Toyota, so they had to order it from Ebay. When I picked up my car the first time and paid in full over $700 the shifter was difficult to put into gear. I told them, brought it back for them to fix and was THEN told Toyota has the part in stock, and that I would be "taken care of" and "don't worry about it" and the they had not gotten the part from ebay but a vendor in Phoenix. When I arrived to get my car after the kept it over night to "let the grease settle" in the old cable, I was told I owed $177! NEVER WAS I GIVE A PRICE OVER THE PHONE OR A QUOTE OVER THE PHONE! Ill tried to convey my frustration and that was not what I was told over the phone. At which point Alonso the manager grabbed my keys like a child and told me he was hold my keys hostage for payment. Short story: They will not do all the work, but they will take your money! Longer story: I had just replaced several suspension parts in my SUV (control arms, ball joints, sway links, and bushings - yes, a woman, by myself), but I couldn't break the tie rod ends free. I called and they were willing to use my outside parts, so I took it over to have them replaced and to get an alignment. Dropped it off, and 3 hours later they called me back. They replaced the tie rod ends, and told me that the alignment was only slightly off (a little toe). Red flag! I just changed suspension parts and looked like I was murdering the car with a sledgehammer at times. So I asked for the alignment printout. The printer was "broken." Backstory: printer was suspiciously broken 2 years prior when I had an alignment on my Civic. I suspected they didn't actually do the alignment then because the steering was crooked and it pulled to one side with new tires. So I called them out. They put my SUV on the alignment machine to prove they did it and most of the screen was yellow. To get to the point. They didn't do the alignment and they lied about it. I sat there an additional 45mins while they actually did it. I then verified that the screen was all green before leaving. I won't be back. Timothy was clear when he told me that the does not believe that breakmasters should make any effort to preserve or protect the information in local computers as it may end up costing them money not only to do so, but also to provide warranty services to customers in need. Short and sweet. Needed an oil change and fuel filter replacement for my 2016 ram 1500 Eco diesel. Not difficult right? I provided all the materials, Mopar approved. The aspect I am discussing is the fuel filter replacement. They assigned their "master tech" to do the work. Upon arrival home after having it completed, the fuel filter reservoir Was leaking fuel. I was able to get the vehicle into a Ram dealer who diagnosed the problem. The ram dealer, in writing, stated the filter was not only put in wrong, not seated, but they also put the new O-ring on incorrectly, causing the threads to ride over it. Biggest concern, I have emailed the corporate office 5 times over three weeks with no response. They state they have a 24 hour response policy. Save money in the long run, go to someone else as they (technicians and brake masters) are clearly incompetent. Not veteran recommended. read more

Came in to get an and asked the guy if could get an alignment done he tells me there's a 3-4 hour wait and I tell him I can schedule it for another day and he then proceeds to ask the mechanics if they could get it done before the close and comes back to me telling me yes they can. So I left the Car there and waited till about 4:40 to call and ask for an update, a lady picks up and I ask about the car she tells me it hasn't been touched but is next in queue and that it would be done before close sounded good to me so I said I'd be there. I arrive the car is still in the same spot and I go and ask the lady at counter about it and sure enough it hasn't been touched, she then tells me I could leave it overnight or come back Monday and said sure took back my keys. Wanted to replace the rear drum brakes on an old 1999 Isuzu Rodeo and took the vehicle into the Broadway/Campbell BrakeMasters. I purchased new brake shoes (which turned out to be defective from the supplier, not their fault), was told that they HIGHLY recommend my drums be replaced because they were old and oversized due to expanding with age (19 year old car with over 200k miles, they were definitely needing replacement). Purchased the drums, which got delayed 1 day because the ones that were delivered had a crack in it (again supplier issue, not their fault). This sounds like a bad review, but here comes the good part. Although I went through a terribly inconvenient situation, the store manager Alonso was very customer service orientated and made sure I was always informed of what was going on. I work in customer service, so I love to see other managers who are fully involved and committed to provide stellar service. Everything did not go smoothly. Life happens, mistakes happen, inconveniences happen. But Alonso made sure everything was done safely, correctly, and that I was 100% informed and satisfied with the service. Took my car in for an alignment. Brought it home drove it the next day and had more problems than it did before I took it in. Sway bar link was left loose making it sound like the brand new struts I put in were bad. I fixed that problem and then it had very bad torque steer when accelerating. I had an issue with my car that i was aware of but stopped by just to get a quick oil change, during that time period the staff noticed that my engine mounts were broken and not screwed in correctly. They offered to help me out and i even told them a previous company let me go out on the road like that. They offered to help knowing that putting me back on the road was a risk. Yelp features relatively few reviews for auto service places such as this, and I think that's a shame because, aside from asking people or using a subscription-supported "list" service (that will remain unnamed save for a later NPR reference). Asking people is all fine and good, but I've found that people are almost always very, very wrong when it comes to car repair places, particularly in Tucson. I know this from experience and, thus, I have stopped asking people altogether about this. I wound up here for the first time years and years ago with my old Sentra (as opposed to my new Sentra) just before I ended up selling it to my dad. I knew the brakes were bad, so I wasn't surprised when I got the "rotor" news here. But they were very cool about it, knocking some money off the labor and finding after-market rotors for me. I remembered that so, when my new truck starting squeaking a little, I took it back here. They told me, straight off the bat, "You don't need new brakes, they're just dirty." They hosed them off a little bit and let me loose, no charge. Wow... So, since then, I've been coming here and recommending this place to everyone I know, not only for brakes, but also for any type of repair. Take, for instance, when I recently had to replace a structural piece of my car after banking it on an isolated, muddy road on the Navajo Nation (no story there). I was quoted something by someone, but knew they were full of it, so I called here. They quoted me something like 1/5 of what the other place did. When I brought it in though, they did up it a little when they actually saw what needed to be done but, still, it was well below what I was quoted at the other place and what I was quoted over the phone at a couple of other places. And, the best part is, they were cool about it. The manager is really nice, both over the phone and when you come in, and I've always had good experiences. Plus, I like the fact that there's not only free wifi available here (although it doesn't always work very well), but it's also next door to a Los Betos ("It's food!") and across from a Safeway, which also happens to feature free wifi and a nice eating area for those delicious sandwiches they make. So why should you trust me in my car repair recommendation in the same review I go on a tirade about people generally not knowing heads or tails when they recommend a car repair place? It's up to you, but I've had really good experiences here and they've earned my loyalty. To me, that's as good a recommendation as any. read more

I've been here 4 times in about 4 years and I've never had major or minor repairs but they've been super friendly and upfront each time nonetheless. The first time my AC died and they quoted me a price to fix it but after fixing belts and transmission and fans and everything else (at other mechanics) I was done. I sold the car and cut my losses. The next time I came in was for my Lyft inspection. They are not a licensed Lyft inspection spot but they filled out the form I brought and didn't charge. The form just states all the mechanics of the car and body are in good condition. I came back the following year for another inspection. Both times the workers were friendly and accommodating. I wasn't treated like a pest because I wasn't spending money on repairs. This last time I popped in real fast to get a new wiper blade. Same great, friendly service as before. It cost $11.95 for one blade which was put on in a few minutes. He looked over the current blade and told me it was no good first. I've been to other BMs and never returned again. Being on the road at the time and unable to perform service to the veichle myself, I came in for an oil change and tire rotation. The staff were nice and accomodating, and reccomended these further services: 1. Brake pads and discs needed replacing. This was accurate except for the rear brake pads that were at 6mm, less than halfway worn, but fair enough. 2. Engine and cabin air filters replacing. Allso accurate and quoted at a good price. 3. Change timing belt and water pump. This is where it gets funky. They were overdue they said. I asked how they knew this, they said it was not in the carfax. I then explained that the service was performed at my Honda dealership less than a year ago. They quoted me 900:- for this. The right thing to do would have been to ask if I knew if this had been done. I left with a cabin air filter scraping against that cabin fan, poor quality washer fluid (which they topped off) that left a mist on the windshield, and two flat tires about an hour later from damaged valves when they filled up/rotated the tires for me. Sorry guys, I Think your hearts are in the Wright place, but I left worse of than I came. read more

Ask for the 3% cash discount! I had my brakes pads, rotos and sensors replaced here. The negatives outweighed the positives with this experience so I will start with them: 1) They had me come back in 45 minutes because they were busy. That's ok but then they said it would be another 45 minutes to inspect the car. Then they had my car sit in the lot for another 45 minutes before even looking at it. It took another 45minutes to have the inspection completed. 2) They took 2 hours and 45 minutes to do the replacemnet job after quoting me 2 hours. I guess not that surprising after the inspection time. 3) they did show me the parts that they used on the car while it was on the rack as requested. Instead they showed me the old parts after the car was taken down. I requested this while the car was on the rack and they just finishing isntallation so it was not like they forgot. 4) I asked the mananger for a cash discount of approximately 3% to match whatever the credit card fee would be. They refused even though this costs them nothing! I guess the manger would rather put money the credit card companies pockets than his own customers?!?! Not to mention he would have to wait 30 days to get his money from the credit card company. This made no sense to me and it pissed me off to spend $40 more than I needed to. This should make no sense to the management at Brake Masters either as they don't get the extra $40. So...I left irritatated, $40 uncessarily lighter, and since I did not see the parts they used or what they did ( possibly intentionally) I had no confidence in my brakes! Now for the positives. 1) service was at least moderately friendly. 2) the brakes seem soft but work so far. Still with so many negatives and a manager that does bnot really want to save you money....why go back. I recommend trying Just Brakes instead. read more

The first time here, I had my oil changed in May. When I went back home (Phoenix) my dad found out about my oil spill. He blames me, I blamed this place. It's all good. I doubt they did it on purpose. However I am back again just to give them another chance. Whenever I go on the highway, these lights will turn on. It's weird but it only happens on the highway. I told them my issue and they are trying to figure out the problem. As of now, doesn't seem like anything is the problem. However, they found my brake pressure is low and have to replace them....I wasn't looking to pay anything today. However, I learned that there are conventional and synthetic oil. I've always thought it was synthetic so it will be every 5000 miles. However, conventional oil is okay too; much cheaper. It is also 2000 miles less. It turns out my oil is long over due so they gave me an oil change. I didn't asked for it but they thought I did so they gave me a free oil change on the house. However, the brakes itself is kinda expensive. They, though, offer life time brake. So if it were to happen again, they would fix it. If you go to any car shop, they mainly charge you for he labor. Sucks that I don't know much about cars-- I woulda fix it myself. However, it would be nice to get other people's perspectives lol. Anyway, they are super nice. I like the guy up front, the workers (whom took me back and show me my problems on the car and told me what to look out for) and the managers, too! I can't say enough about this place! I have recommended them to all my friends. I came in on a Tuesday- around 4- I needed new brakes- they suggested that I have my rotars resurfaced and new brake pads, but were happy to do new rotars and brake pads- which was suggested by my mechanic back home. The price was reasonable and they even gave me a small discount. The work was done well and I have had no problems since. They called me before they started any work , patiently talked me through everything, waited for me to call my mechanic, and call them back multiple times- with a friendly and patient attitude.
