I'm very pleased with the service I received from Brake Masters on Reseda Boulevard in Northridge today. I usually take my Toyota to the dealer for service but they wanted $400 for a front brake job. I've been going to brake masters for years and have recommended this location to my friends and family. I started coming here to replace my car's brakes. They installed them and they come with a warranty. Several months later, I had an issue with one of the brakes and they repaired it under the warranty. I actually forgot about the warranty myself, so I appreciate the shop keeps track and honors their commitment. Another time I went, it turned out, the brake needed a minor adjustment which they did immediately and didn't charge me for. In general, I feel that I can trust brake masters and they are reliable. I recently learned that they do all kinds of repairs. So I'll be taking my car in for tune up soon. They are upfront about their costs. The costs are listed and they will give an estimate to get my approval before starting any work. I also like the waiting area. It's got a TV, A/C, and water. Also Ben is very good with the time estimates. And when I drop off my car, he's good about calling me as soon as they are ready for me up pick up the car. I was charged for parts that were not installed for some reason. I came in and SPECIFICALLY told them I needed ALL rotors and brake pads to be replaced. 5 More Days until Vegas? Wait...didn't you go to Vegas 3 weeks ago? Yes, I did, but I am going to celebrate my mother's birthday. That's what a son does. I had decided that since I am going to Vegas I would have my car fixed up. The last time I had my car serviced was back in March 2010. Before that...probably YEARS, besides having tires changed. My brakes were squealing when I come to a stop and it has been annoying for the past couple months, so I decided to go to Brake Masters. I went to Brake Masters in Van Nuys about 5 years ago, but I decided going to the Northridge for a change. I was supposed to wake up at 7am and be there at 8am, but I overslept. I arrived around 11am and I saw their bays full, but they were just finishing up. Whew...I thought I had to come back later. I was greeted by George and ask him for an Oil Change ($21.95) and a Free Brake Inspection. The store was very busy and he assured me that he will get to my car right away. That's GREAT SERVICE. Some places, they wait and WAIT until customer goes insane. George gave me a review of my brakes. He said that 30% of my pads were left. He said that I didn't need to get brake service. However, I insisted that I drive a lot and I will need new brakes for both my leisure and work. Normally, they push you, but I guess I pushed them to service my breaks. George gave me some discounts off services. For my Front Brakes, he charged me $159, but took off $10. For my rear brakes, he charged $149, but took off $10. For my oil change, it was $22.98, but he took off $1. The GRAND TOTAL.......$326.03. Does it sound a lot? Probably is, but I rarely have my car serviced. I'd rather invest in my car than an iPod or a cell phone. When I was witnessing the service guys change my rotor, I was used to the old corroded rotors. When they brought out the new rotor..OH CHEEZE WHIZ BATMAN...It was shiny bright one. I guess I haven't seen a shiny one lately. I swear majority of the service guys worked on my car more than the other customers that came in after me. My Oil Change...DONE...My Brakes and Rotors... DONE. It took about an hour to service my car. I guess its because most of them were on my car than the others...HIGH FIVE for service. I got shiny new brakes...new oil filters and lubricants. I guess the price may sound a lot. I am not sure. I guess PRICE is the big thing most people are concerned about. For me, to balance things out, I haven't had my brakes checked in 5 years, I haven't had any major engine problems. Plus, this was a better investment. Called Brake Masters since I had a Brake issue (dash light) and other places didn't know what was wrong and wanted to over charge. This is my first encounter with Brake Masters and hope they can stay consistent with their service. Spoke with Ben over the phone and explained my hand brake issue on my 2006 Pontiac GTO. He said I can take it in to get looked at; no problem. I swung by during my lunch time and spoke with Ben in person. He had and idea for the issue, but needed time to confirm. He quoted me labor cost to inspect and eventually fix the issue. I went back after my work shift was over. And to my surprise the car was fixed. Ben explained exactly what was the issue and told me how they fixed it. They also vacuumed a little mess I had in my car. A day later and the issue has not returned. I had a four wheel alignment done back in September 2020. Months later in November 2020, I noticed that my car was pulling and went back to this facility. Turns out that I needed an another alignment. To think that they should honor a 90 day warranty on their work, they had the integrity to charge me for another alignment service. I believe the automotive bureau should be involved for service malpractice. Good luck bringing your vehicle to this shop. read more

This review is not a complaint but a HUGE thank you to Frank Peachey for his genuine concern and help ensuring our families safety. The original issue was when Brake Masters Newhall (an independent store from Franks corporate Brake Masters stores) fraudulently put non OEM brake pads on my car, which I had paid almost $1500 for according to the sales receipt. In addition to their unethical behavior they had to jumpstart my car before I could leave after they installed the new brakes because they left my lights on the whole 4 hours while they installed the new brakes! So the next day after I took my son to school my car wouldn't start because of the dead battery they killed! So I had to get a new battery! On 11/3/17 we purchased brand new 50k mile tires from Americas Tire for over $1100. 68831k miles used on the car at that time. By June the new brakes were squealing so on 6/16/18 I took the car to Brake Masters Van Nuys who found that the Newhall location DID NOT install the expensive OEM brakes I had paid for! So they had to replace the brake pads with OEM pads since that it what I had paid for! 82264k miles on the vehicle at this point. 7/16/18 I took the vehicle back to Brake Masters Simi Valley because of the knocking and noise in the front of the vehicle and they said they found that my Lower Control arms may be the issue but weren't sure unless they took it apart. So I made an appointment with Land Rover Encino and got in as soon as they had a loaner vehicle. So on 9/28/18 I took the car to Land Rover Encino where they confirmed and documented that 1 - the bushing was cracked 2 - they documented that the tires were near perfect at all 4 being 732. 88153k miles documented on the vehicle 10/18/18 Brake Masters Van Nuys got the parts in to replace the whole control arm suspension kit so I took it in and got the work done for for $1322.18. No alignment was done. 89284k miles documented on the vehicle. The loud squealing noise was still happening so I went back to Van Nuys on 10/23/18 and they had to replace the word down brakes that were unevenly worn because of the control arms. No alignment was done. I was really upset and concerned that they didn't check this on 10/18 when I got the work done. 11/7/18 there was still a loud squealing noise so I took the car to Simi Valley and and showed the manager my paperwork and he said everything was fine. His guy drove it and they didn't hear anything. That from that point on I would have to call Frank if there was any further issue. By 1/14/18 a little over a year after getting the new tires we tried to get a tire rotation at Americas Tire but the tires were unserviceable at 94,290k miles only 25,459 miles used! I contacted Frank immediately to let him know the issues we now had and that there was metal coming thru the tires making the car unsafe to drive and Frank immediately apologized and said he would take care of the tires and alignment. I do not hold Frank responsible for the Van Nuys oversight. There is no way one person can babysit so many shops. Even though it wasn't anything he had to do with he worked directly with Americas tire to replace the tires and all I had to do was show up! I couldn't believe his integrity and genuine concern for our families safety! It really means the world to us, and even though we won't be going back to the Van Nuys location, we will definitely go to another location, because Frank looks out for their customers! That is a rarity in todays society. I hope Brake Masters corporate takes good care of you because if you every don't work for them, that's when my family and I stop using Brake Masters! Our two boys start driving this year and knowing that both their vehicles will have the best service with Brake Masters really gives us a piece of mind as well! Thank you! I am putting the 5 stars and this in-depth review under the Northridge location because we had some service done there recently and the manager Ben was super nice & friendly! I really wanted to like this place. This the second time I have been here. The first time was awesome! I brought my car in this weekend because my breaks were feeling a bit weird. They told me everything was good, but that my pads were 50% worn. Great. I am good with that....see you in a few months, But, since I am here. can you do my alignment. In and out within an hour. Again, Great!! I came home and my boyfriend said he didn't believe that there was nothing wrong with my breaks. We took the car to a friend and they said that my rotors were warped. So, you mean to tell me that I got up early and took my car in at 8:00 am on a Saturday and brake "masters" said nothing was wrong? Nope, never go here again! Came in today because my rear drum shoe brakes were making noises, so I assume I need new shoe brakes. When I came in to have it checked it turns out that my brake shoes still has 90% life left. And it would last at least a year. I appreciated the honesty, as the brakes I bought only cost 20$ and they said it doesn't need to be change therefore I should waste money getting it replace when it was still good. I came here about a month ago to change my brakes . However, two weeks after getting my brakes changed they started squeaking so I went back there to see what was wrong. They inspected my front breaks again and aid that they would need to charge me an extra $40 to reinstall them and fix it. So I asked to talk to manager and the manager said that they weren't responsible and that they can only make adjustments for free 7 days after my visit. So, basically they did a poor job of changing my brakes and wanted to charge me an extra $40 to fix the poor job they did. Unbelievable. read more
