I arrived back to the salon after 15 minutes and waited. A half an hour after my appointment time my stylist was still working on the client she had in the chair. I asked her to cancel my appointment and I left. Not a good experience for a first time client. I won't be back.

Veronica is a very nice person, but I would NOT recommend her for a balayage. The hair treatment…read moreshe gave me not only looked nothing like the picture I gave her, but it was also very poorly executed. The application style was extremely chunky, uneven, and even worse had "leopard spots" in several areas. The top looked like tiger stripes. When I went to another salon to have it fixed, they said there were areas that were left on too long and others not enough. As you look at the deeper layers of my hair, you can see the bleach was applied in random diagonal lines. Definitely not the quality you expect from any stylist let alone an experienced one. The other salon was able to fix the high stripes but because of the random application of the bleach they had to return it all pretty much to brown and start over. I have to wait 6-8 weeks for my hair to heal before the other salon can give me a new blond balayage. I am getting engaged in a few weeks, which is why I wanted my hair done in the first place, and now I will not have my hair done for day of my engagement. Although she gave me a PARTIAL refund, it did not cover the repair costs and definitely is not going to cover the second good salon visit for a proper balayage. Even if she did give it all back, the additional repairs are going to cost me over $150 more than what I would have paid if it was done right the first time. Again super nice women, but I would NOT recommend her for any hair treatment.

I hesitated to complain because I'm not a well established client and I feel uncomfortable complaining. When I worked up the courage to go in, the owner was really kind and helped me himself. The vibe is always relaxed- trust that you'll be pampered!

I run a list of recommended businesses in the SMTX / NB area, and have received a number of…read morecomplaints about this salon. The most recent is one where the salon overcharged a client, and refused to refund the error, instead wanting to offer a credit for future use with the client's hair stylist. The client's hair stylist left for another salon and Monroe Salon refused to honor their commitment. Instead they offered a 50% refund of the amount THEY overcharged! Unbelievable! I'm removing them from our recommended list, and hope they reevaluate their shady business practices.

Very disappointing experience with Monroe Hair Studio…read more I was overcharged $55 on my credit card during a visit. Instead of voiding the incorrect transaction and charging the correct amount, Monroe Hair Studio asked me to accept a $55 credit toward my next appointment. I agreed to that arrangement because I trusted the salon to honor what they had offered to resolve their billing error. Before I could use the credit, my stylist left Monroe and moved to another salon. I then contacted Monroe and asked for the $55 to be refunded. They refused. To be clear, this was not a coupon, promotion, gift card, or discretionary salon credit. It was $55 that I had been overcharged and paid to the salon. The $55 credit was the salon's proposed way of correcting that overcharge. I find it extremely disappointing that Monroe would agree to a resolution when the billing mistake occurred, but then refuse to honor it simply because my stylist subsequently left the salon. Now the owner is saying I was not overcharged. This is absolutely not the truth. Not only is she unethical, she is a liar. Businesses make mistakes. What matters is how they handle those mistakes. In this situation, Monroe Hair Studio had an opportunity to do the right thing and chose not to. Now the owner is even resorting to lies to save face when the situation is made public. I would encourage anyone using this salon to carefully check their receipt and credit card charge before leaving.

I definitely refer anyone who is in the San Marcos area or even the surrounding areas to come in and visit this unique gem of a stylist! You won't be disappointed, and if you are like me and don't live in San Marcos- well, it is definitely worth the visit! Crystal also is now at the newly opened North Street Studio, and let me say that this is by far the NICEST salon in San Marcos. BY FAR! I used to live in San Marcos when I went to Texas State, and I was always frustrated by the quality of salons in San Marcos and found myself driving to Austin to get my hair done. Now I drive to San Marcos just to get my hair done! They did an amazing job and the decor is very complimenting. They also have any hair product you could ever imagine for sale in their salon, so I always make sure I stock up and resupply all my beauty products every time I am in there! Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable and I definitely recommend CRYSTAL and this salon to ALL OF MY friends and anyone who is in the San Marcos or surrounding areas who is needing a quality hair cut, style, color, and highlight- for sure!
