My curls continue to be happy and healthy because of his recommendations and care. It's a bonus that he's talked me out of a few bad hair choices and encouraged me to take a risk when I was feeling hesitant about a shorter haircut. If I could give Corey and his salon 7000 stars, I would. You won't be disappointed with him or anyone there- from the moment you walk in, you're treated like royalty. The vibe is always relaxed- trust that you'll be pampered!

I've spent more than my fair share of time and money in salons across multiple cities and states,…read moreand Salon MINK is still one of my absolute favorites. I first came here as a Bobcat--IYKYK. Young and broke, but protective of my curls--and my very first stylist was Ray Reeves. The only things bigger than his talent were his personality and his heart. I trusted him instantly, and if you know anything about curls, that says everything. I moved away after graduation, but when I landed back within driving range, I didn't hesitate--clocking 45 minutes each way and passing plenty of other salons along the way. (Bombshell Beautique--you could never.) By then, Ray had passed, and I began seeing Corey Casey, his partner and co-owner. It was immediately clear why they built this place together. Corey is every bit as kind, talented, and grounded. I give him a general idea, he hands me a mimosa, and then works his magic. Shorter, longer, lighter, darker, touch-ups, tighter curls, or full blowouts--I've never left looking or feeling anything less than fabulous. From the neck up, anyway. One of the things I appreciate most is that Corey takes his craft seriously--ongoing education, advanced training, and a commitment to excellence not just for himself, but for the whole team. So no matter who you're booked with, you're in good hands. I even got my boyfriend to start coming here, because they've got a solid barber, too. The salon itself is always welcoming, always stylish, and somehow still relaxed. The staff is lovely, the product lines are legit, and the whole experience feels like a proper treat without ever being stuffy. If I had to complain? The parking lot! Tiny, cramped, and shared with other businesses. But hey--that's downtown San Marcos, so leave five minutes for creative parking. Ten if you've ever failed a driving exam. Also? The bathroom is a Dolly Parton shrine worthy of pilgrimage on its own. Suffice it to say: this salon understands the assignment. Sadly, I've moved away again and (begrudgingly) found a new salon and stylist. But there will always be a big, glamorous, perfectly highlighted place in my heart that holds Ray, Corey, and Salon MINK.

The most recent is one where the salon overcharged a client, and refused to refund the error, instead wanting to offer a credit for future use with the client's hair stylist. The client's hair stylist left for another salon and Monroe Salon refused to honor their commitment. Instead they offered a 50% refund of the amount THEY overcharged! Unbelievable! I'm removing them from our recommended list, and hope they reevaluate their shady business practices.

Very disappointing experience with Monroe Hair Studio…read more I was overcharged $55 on my credit card during a visit. Instead of voiding the incorrect transaction and charging the correct amount, Monroe Hair Studio asked me to accept a $55 credit toward my next appointment. I agreed to that arrangement because I trusted the salon to honor what they had offered to resolve their billing error. Before I could use the credit, my stylist left Monroe and moved to another salon. I then contacted Monroe and asked for the $55 to be refunded. They refused. To be clear, this was not a coupon, promotion, gift card, or discretionary salon credit. It was $55 that I had been overcharged and paid to the salon. The $55 credit was the salon's proposed way of correcting that overcharge. I find it extremely disappointing that Monroe would agree to a resolution when the billing mistake occurred, but then refuse to honor it simply because my stylist subsequently left the salon. Now the owner is saying I was not overcharged. This is absolutely not the truth. Not only is she unethical, she is a liar. Businesses make mistakes. What matters is how they handle those mistakes. In this situation, Monroe Hair Studio had an opportunity to do the right thing and chose not to. Now the owner is even resorting to lies to save face when the situation is made public. I would encourage anyone using this salon to carefully check their receipt and credit card charge before leaving.

Veronica is a very nice person, but I would NOT recommend her for a balayage. The hair treatment…read moreshe gave me not only looked nothing like the picture I gave her, but it was also very poorly executed. The application style was extremely chunky, uneven, and even worse had "leopard spots" in several areas. The top looked like tiger stripes. When I went to another salon to have it fixed, they said there were areas that were left on too long and others not enough. As you look at the deeper layers of my hair, you can see the bleach was applied in random diagonal lines. Definitely not the quality you expect from any stylist let alone an experienced one. The other salon was able to fix the high stripes but because of the random application of the bleach they had to return it all pretty much to brown and start over. I have to wait 6-8 weeks for my hair to heal before the other salon can give me a new blond balayage. I am getting engaged in a few weeks, which is why I wanted my hair done in the first place, and now I will not have my hair done for day of my engagement. Although she gave me a PARTIAL refund, it did not cover the repair costs and definitely is not going to cover the second good salon visit for a proper balayage. Even if she did give it all back, the additional repairs are going to cost me over $150 more than what I would have paid if it was done right the first time. Again super nice women, but I would NOT recommend her for any hair treatment.

Crystal also is now at the newly opened North Street Studio, and let me say that this is by far the NICEST salon in San Marcos. BY FAR!
