Good three star reflecting price point and food on the plate…read more We both turned up to Uluru by default. It was very pleasant. We hadn't booked anywhere but had intended to dine in Embers next door. Embers refused us entry due to reservations. Uluru gave us a warm welcome. They looked after us very well. The seating was comfy, has an open kitchen and it was quite a large dining space. I did something out of character ordering a burger & chips (£16). Apparently the chips are hand cut I suppose rather than machine cut. I'm not sure it matters really, what matters is the potato, freshness, the cooking medium and cooking temperature. It wasn't cold pressed olive oil used for frying - that would impress, rather than spuds being hand cut. I didn't enjoy the chips. I didn't like the taste. I don't think they were fried at the right temperature and doubt they were maris piper spuds. My burger was venison another first for me topped with pasteurised Brie. It was tasty; my wife has a beef & bird burger(£16) which she enjoyed. They were tasty served on factory - made not hand - made bread rolls. Stripping it all back it was (albeit) two tasty burger & chips, two cappuccinos (£4 each) and a glass of wine (£7) total £50. It ain't a bargain now. The risk is that folk will cook at home or opt instead for international cheap rubbish fast food choices. Customers will be sensitive to price gouging especially as energy costs are dropping. I buy grass fed Irish fillet steak and the kilo price hasn't changed in three years, but no one should ever forget how we all got here. It's courtesy of a bunch of robbing scoundrels pretending to govern. They pretend they lowered inflation but Arab states did that. They've imposed austerity on the population for 13 years that's not needed. They've hollowed out every aspect of critical public service to near death. They've weaponised the benefits system against the poor and sick which isn't generous to start with (lowest pension paid in Europe from the 3rd richest country in Europe) and Truss one out of five useless spiv prime ministers who lost £120 billion inside a few weeks lost her job after 45 days but has just taken her £125k annual PM pension for life. So Cameron also gets £125k like May, like Johnston and when he is kicked out Sunak and he will be kicked out we'll be forking out well over half a million quid annually to sheer chancers pretending to be tories who have left the country in ruination and poverty. They wouldn't recognise a real Tory policy if they stood on it barefoot. And as for this statelet, well don't get me started let's just say we got the politicians we truly deserve; a first minister totally untouched by experience and a potential deputy first minister who really is just a cowardly shiver looking for a spine to crawl up. He won't give up his Westminster salary so all you suckers who vote for this gutless shiver can go to the chippy if you can find one open.

The menu is highly varied, and both dishes that we ordered were excellent and very authentic. It didn't wow. On my account alone it's a fairly good, albeit overpriced, three star but on my…read morewife's tab it might just scrape two stars. Let's get to it; it's been over 16 years since we've been here, but we do remember it fondly. We recall its classic French cooking from way back, spiral staircase inside, diners started with drinks on the first floor, descending to dine on the ground floor. Back to the present - the pleasant smell of cooking wafted in the air as we got out of the car. The car park was full. We climbed the outside staircase up to the first floor. The welcome was mega friendly and there was a buzz from within with lots of diners. The service was great throughout. As we sat down - quite literally as we sat - we were offered drinks. It has only two draft beers to offer and sadly no local stouts or ales. I started with Guinness and a darn good Cabernet Sauvignon. The ladies each opted for rosé which is deservedly back to popularity. I had an excellent tasting chicken liver pâté to begin: it had a tasty relish, delightful sourdough, lightly toasted bread and salted butter. I thought I was back in the 1970's - nothing wrong with that era - when it would have been £1.95 rather than £7. The pâté was served in a small jar. It looked a mean portion but it was just right actually. The only minor thing was the mean one salted butter portion being served in foil. This morsel was for three toasted pieces of bread. The butter should be served in a dish, as I found opening the foil caused my fingers to become a tad greasy. I opted for a fillet steak main. I asked for and got medium. The steak should have been great but it was alright. It would have been better dry aged, properly seasoned on cooking but it wasn't. If it was dry aged then it's not properly dry aged. My steak came with chips that I didn't want so my fellow diners shared them around. I asked for and got Colman's English mustard - the best mustard in the world. The whiskey sauce was pretty good at an extra £3.5 cost. My steak with chips and the sauce topped just over £33 so this place ain't cheap - it's a stonking £17 for a burger & chip main and the same price for a vegetable curry. Vegetarian and vegan prices too are high end. The steak was the only main I would buy on this very safe menu. There's no chance anyone cooking here would end up on Great British Menu. The only fish main was farmed salmon, effectively served in an Asian light broth (£19). You could make this at home in under 15 minutes for less than a fiver. My wife had it. She found it poor tasting and enough to persuade her not to want to return to dine here. She did really enjoy her (£8) prawn cocktail starter though - another 1970's staple - and thought it 4 star. They used to serve prawn cocktail here in sliced fresh pineapple with a heavy dusting of paprika. Their Marie Rose sauce would benefit from a good glug of brandy. I had a tasty cheesecake dessert with a raspberry coulis and cream but for reasons that escape me the chef thinks it a good idea to crush up factory-made lotus biscuits and toss the 'crumble' on the plate with the cheesecake. I can just imagine GBM judges Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton seeing this dessert in front of them. They would rightly be apoplectic. Lotus biscuits are made with cheap vegetable oils including palm oil. They remained on my plate. The flat white coffee was very good. I note their Sunday lunch menu is chiefly the evening menu with small variations and priced near enough to the evening menu. All in all there's nowt to take us back here. Honestly, the food let's it down. A bit of imagination and adventure could easily make the food experience much better, within the current high price point, but I recognise they may be hostage to their main customer base.

A very important element as two of our party are vegan. We had a lovely evening and were blown away by the fantastic food, beautiful restaurant and warm ambience. Service was slow-moving which suited us perfectly as we wanted a leisurely, relaxed, family evening. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food, with the pièce de résistance being the exceptional vegan dishes. My starter was a flavourful platter of stuffed peppers, olives, mushrooms, bread and chutney. For main course I had roast winter veg, semolina & salsa verde with vegan chips and Garlic Rough Cuts. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. When booking I had mentioned that two of us are vegan and the Chef surprised us by created a couple of luxurious, off-menu desserts, a vegan Merengue and chocolate, praline, cherry mousse. This really was something special - we were so impressed! Thank you Moody Boar for such a fantastic evening, phenomenal vegan food and completely excelling all our expectations. We will be back, again and again..

All of us were delighted with the food bar a very few grumbles that are easily overcome. I had mushroom sourdough bread toast, with artichoke and little dollops of chicken liver pâté splodged at each corner of the plate - all delicious. When frying mushrooms don't shake/stir them in the pan, fry and spoon turn, otherwise they'll start to lose watery liquid into the pan and get poached. My main was vegetable red Thai curry with a multi coloured rice; I'm not enthusiastic about artificially colouring food; a coconut rice would be so much better. This was the best (non Thai restaurant) red curry sauce I have ever had. They should add a small amount of cubed potato and Thai baby corn to the vegetarian curry. The prawn crackers on the side were really awful. These should be fried in very hot oil just before food is to be served. You'll know they are right as they'll puff up in under 5 seconds and do get the proper brown Thai crackers to cook. The others had steak, duck and cod mains - all excellent. The apple crumble dessert was great but for, and here's the worst if it: the ice cream was cheap rubbish. All who had it felt the same; darn good and toward excellent food all the way through only at the end to get this low grade muck. The custard too was cold. As I said the downsides are an easy fix. Oh and I tried my first and last Guinness zero alcohol.
