I've never been terribly impressed with it though. I ate in it a few times, and they've a decent menu covering the usual sorts of things - sandwiches, baked potatoes, chicken dishes, lasagne, roast dinners, etc. It's seems to be another of those "depends who's working" sort of places. I had a chicken dinner in it one time, with mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, and all the trimmings for around £8, and it was a really good Sunday dinner. However, on another occasion I had the lamb, which was so unbelievably tough that I bent the fork when trying to cut it! They do a good "clean" fry as well (see Biddy Duffy's review), but the thing with this place is that you always seem to be waiting forever. It's not unusual to wait a half an hour for your food in here, which is quite a wait. There's a sign that mentions something about fresh food taking longer to prepare but, unless you're out the back saying your last goodbyes to the pig, there's no reason for something as simple as a fry taking half an hour - nor are any of their dishes special enough to justify that sort of wait. Waiting staff are friendly and polite though.

We were invited here by good friends, so we had to bite our tongues at some of the rubbish served…read moreup, but it spoiled what should have been a great night. We will never return here again. There's not much refinement here and certainly no finesse. Most of the starter choices don't involve much hard work by a cook. The menus sit on their website. I ordered prawn cocktail (£6.75) but the prawns were an unpleasant eat. The problem with the prawns was defrosting. This marred what should have been great flavour and made for an unpleasant fish texture, but I'm not sure if it was improper freezing at factory source, defrosting under cold water, which will certainly have this effect or defrosting, refreezing and defrosting again. In each case this destroys the delicate texture and subtle flavour of prawns. The owners should buy a bag of M&S Greenland prawns, defrost in a fridge and taste them to find out how these subtle, delicate morsels should taste and be served. They'd get 10 portions out of a bag. A proper chef would know that a little bit of French brandy in the cocktail sauce would also significantly help taste too and at £6.75 a portion an accountant might know it wouldn't break the bank. The prawns served here were well destroyed and not worth the £6.75 charged, in fact they were only fit for the cat or if there's no cat then the bin. At this point we would have left, if not for the fact we were guests. My wife had the same starter. I knew from her face that she disliked the prawns too as she was sipping alcohol to wash away the taste. That's not her. I ordered a fillet steak main, cooked medium, with French fried onions. The steak was fairly good but not 28 day dry aged. At near £29 it should be at least 28 day dry aged. My steak was cooked/served nearer to well done but I'm not precious about this. But the so-called semi solid, gloopy pepper sauce was revolting. It's included in the £29 price of the steak. If it's not out of a box with a heavy flour base it should be, it was rank. Likewise the French fried onion batter (£3.5) was thick, oil saturated, not crisp and just terrible. It amazes me that folks can live on a reputation and get away with awful throwback food that should have stayed in the 1970's. I'm astonished too that the owners are satisfied in themselves to serve this grim food to customers, I couldn't do it. I have a tip for the cooks here; go to the Linenhill restaurant nearby at Banbridge and sample a chef's pepper sauce and French fried onions - both are wonderful. My wife also had steak and she barely touched her pepper sauce, so it sat visibly congealing and it formed a shiny dark top cracked skin from the heavy use of flour. It went back to the kitchen where it should never have been allowed to leave. I offered our hosts my French fried onions and they ate them, otherwise they too would have gone back to the kitchen. One of our hosts ordered mushrooms with his steak. He didn't get them rather they ended up on my wife's plate. She hadn't ordered mushrooms. They looked unappetising, small, over cooked and like they came out of a tin. They too went back to the kitchen uneaten. The lemon meringue pie was quite good but while the lemon filling was beautifully tart and the meringue too was darn good the pie base should be made using salted butter particularly at £5.75 for what was a mean portion. They didn't have bitter lemon to go with gin. We were offered a sparkling water based lemon san pellegrino to put in the gin. No thanks. Likewise their English mustard isn't Colman's so evidence of penny pinching. We had rubbish Irish coffees too. Poorly made and so diluted they were quite unpleasant. The gents toilet was cold, it has a stainless steel urinal, a rusty hand dryer and no toilet tissue. I was going to tell the young serving staff but I thought if they couldn't be arsed (pun intended) to check why should I. So I didn't. I hope this review improves things for future guests but we will not benefit as we won't return and thankfully we were guests, I'd have hated to hand over my hard earned here but then we would have left at the starters. Just barely 2 stars as I don't think I can justify one star but it really, really, really is a close run thing.

Was a lovely ambiance and nice to go into the lounge and relax before being brought to the table when food was ready. Food was lovely. My mum and dad got the Groupon of a sharing platter, rack of ribs, chicken breast and two steaks -great portions as well (I sampled a bit of all) The steak was cooked to a lovely medium rare and the ribs were very tender and yummy. Chicken was a big breast. The sides were good portions and also homemade chips, you can definitely taste the difference. My husband had the steak ciabatta which again was tasty as he finished the plate load, although he had asked for medium and it was more well done than medium. The food was really tasty and plentiful, the only gripes I would have was that the steaks came and it was a good 3-4 minutes before other food, sauces and sides came. Great value and was busy for a Tuesday which is a good sign of the quality of food. It was my second time there and would definitely recommend. Although says Banbridge it is about 5/10 minutes out the Newry side of it. (be warned you can easily get lost on the country roads)

The Blonde reckoned it was so good that the trip to Moira felt like being on a European mini break. It really was that good. Opened just before Christmas 2015, Wine & Brine is the first restaurant of local man Chris McGowan who spent over a decade in the London kitchens of culinary megastars Richard Corrigan and Gary Rhodes so his provenance is pretty promising. The welcome was friendly and professional and the dining room is bright and airy if perhaps a little lacking in atmosphere. It may have more ambience after dark. However the open kitchen is the focus of the room so you know they're serious about the food The fabulous warm home-baked brown and white breads were accompanied by creamy, tart Goat's cheese curds with bacon crumbs and delicious caramelised butter - so good we had to ask for more. Starters were Crubeens (little croquettes of pig's foot in a creamy mustard sauce), Black Pudding Sausage Rolls with a divine House mushroom ketchup and Goat's Cheese and Beetroot Croquettes. All were exceptional - so good that everyone tried everything - even those who would normally never touch black pudding or offal. Mains were Steak Pie with Burnt Onion sauce, Confit Pork Jowl and Glen Hill Lamb. Again the food, flavours and presentation were superb and everyone had to share! Waistbands were by now under pressure but we had to persevere and ordered 2 desserts between the three of us - a Hazlenut Affogato and a Lemon Yoghurt with Raspberries and Shortbread. Suffice to say we found room to finish them. If the food is unbelievable then I need a new word for the prices. Starters and desserts are £3, mains are £8. So we're talking world class food at below pub grub prices and its 20 minutes mins from Belfast. Those prices surely can't last especially as Wine & Brine was recently awarded Waitrose best local restaurant in the UK. So you really need to get there soon. Wine & Brine just took NI restaurants to a whole new level.

We hadn't booked anywhere but had intended to dine in Embers next door. Embers refused us entry due to reservations. Uluru gave us a warm welcome. They looked after us very well. The seating was comfy, has an open kitchen and it was quite a large dining space. I did something out of character ordering a burger & chips (£16). Apparently the chips are hand cut I suppose rather than machine cut. I'm not sure it matters really, what matters is the potato, freshness, the cooking medium and cooking temperature. It wasn't cold pressed olive oil used for frying - that would impress, rather than spuds being hand cut. I didn't enjoy the chips. I didn't like the taste. I don't think they were fried at the right temperature and doubt they were maris piper spuds. My burger was venison another first for me topped with pasteurised Brie. It was tasty; my wife has a beef & bird burger(£16) which she enjoyed. They were tasty served on factory - made not hand - made bread rolls. Stripping it all back it was (albeit) two tasty burger & chips, two cappuccinos (£4 each) and a glass of wine (£7) total £50. It ain't a bargain now. The risk is that folk will cook at home or opt instead for international cheap rubbish fast food choices. Customers will be sensitive to price gouging especially as energy costs are dropping. I buy grass fed Irish fillet steak and the kilo price hasn't changed in three years, but no one should ever forget how we all got here. It's courtesy of a bunch of robbing scoundrels pretending to govern. They pretend they lowered inflation but Arab states did that. They've imposed austerity on the population for 13 years that's not needed. They've hollowed out every aspect of critical public service to near death. They've weaponised the benefits system against the poor and sick which isn't generous to start with (lowest pension paid in Europe from the 3rd richest country in Europe) and Truss one out of five useless spiv prime ministers who lost £120 billion inside a few weeks lost her job after 45 days but has just taken her £125k annual PM pension for life. So Cameron also gets £125k like May, like Johnston and when he is kicked out Sunak and he will be kicked out we'll be forking out well over half a million quid annually to sheer chancers pretending to be tories who have left the country in ruination and poverty. They wouldn't recognise a real Tory policy if they stood on it barefoot. And as for this statelet, well don't get me started let's just say we got the politicians we truly deserve; a first minister totally untouched by experience and a potential deputy first minister who really is just a cowardly shiver looking for a spine to crawl up. He won't give up his Westminster salary so all you suckers who vote for this gutless shiver can go to the chippy if you can find one open.

The portions are still very good for the likes of Chicken Tempura, but I couldn't believe what they did with the lasagne. Now, I know basically how restaurants work, re chef's bonuses and things like that, but on two occasions I was there, the lack of meat in the lasagne was astonishing (I got it on the first occasion, and on another visit with another friend, my friend got it, even though I had warned them about it). It's no exaggeration to say that, on both of those occasions, there was less meat in the lasagne than I've had in frozen lasagnes from supermarkets - I really was taken aback, and contemplated sending it back, but I'm sometimes wary when it comes to complaining about food when the same chef I've just criticised will be preparing my next meal - I always vote with my feet, though, and have only been back for a few friends' birthdays, never venturing near the lasagne again. People find it difficult enough in times like these to get out for a meal, so on the occasion that you do get out, you want to make sure you're getting well fed. The Temple may have gone too far, as it no longer opens for breakfast, and also introduced a two-course special before 7 o'clock a while back to try and stimulate business. Aside from all that, the place does have a nice homely feel, decorated with wood and bare brick, and a fire. The waiting staff are very friendly and attentive, but good decor and good staff are never going to be the factors that make a restaurant prosper.
